CantSleepWontSleep · 09/08/2006 07:38

Right ladies - the race is on to see which of our DCs can self feed a sausage roll first!

Oh, and some of you don't seem to have aged since we got pregnant, so if you've got closer to your telegrams from the queen then please let me know!

Oh, and I was going to say... Amiable, I've deleted your email address by mistake! Are you free next Wed/Thurs/Fri? (and anyone else of course, its just that Amiable is so close!!)

Jasnem · 25/08/2006 20:34

Hi, I'm back and very tired from lots of driving, plus shopping whle I was in Norwich. Boy slept all the way there, in the buggy when my dad had him, and all the way home, so I'm expecting a rubbish night now.

I've seen threads on baby pasta and wondered. How have I managed to have two dds who love pasta, but never got special pasta.

Frizbe · 25/08/2006 22:34

who knows eh Jas I just personally find smaller pasta easier for them to start with and less faff!

MRM, I used to have one of those lodgers too, mine came back from abroad and sofa dwelled for ages....(cause I'd replaced him with another when he went as he swore he'd be sorted by the time he got back, ha!)even moved his mrs in and onto the sofa too! (all before I got married tho) its their wedding I'm off to tomorrow

Flame no time for nappy changing, time to boot him up the arse me thinks! one quick nappy surely won't get him chucked out the que.....if he can't do it quickly enough you can tell him from me he needs more practice!

Jasnem · 25/08/2006 22:45

Forgot earlier. Sympathy for Flame. If it isn't a computer, it's something else. (X box/pub in equal measures here). Does dp win the crap father award yet? He hasn't changed a single nappy for Boy in 6 months.
I find that standing with a crying baby and saying, either you entertain him, or you do...whatever I really want him to do (bath girls, make tea etc) works for me. Then I sit down with a cup of tea and bf the baby while he does the other stuff.

3k · 26/08/2006 00:01

I am going to have a DH moan too!! Seems like they are out in force today! I feel like I am a single mum sometimes, DH called me at 5pm today and said he was going out to do some overtime then he was going to the pub on someones leaving do. I said to him I wouldnt mind a night out and how come he always seems to be out!!! He replied that "it was Friday night". FRIDAY NIGHT!!!!! I DONT BLOOMING GET FRIDAY NIGHTS ANYMORE SO WHY SHOULD HE????? I was furious, I sent him a text after stewing on it for 10 mins and said he takes me for granted, having a baby is a joint responsibility and I never get a break so why should he!!! Arrhhhhhh! Havent really spoken to him tonight, he didnt go out in the end. He was also late back from work and I was late going to see my SIL in hospital so my mum babysat AGAIN. She sees more of DS than DH does. I know he works (as he tells me more than twice a week) but having a baby can be hard work too I think he thinks I just sit on my arse all day long. AND I house clean for 10 hours a week. GOD! I would just like to feel a bit more valued from time to time. Anyone else feel a bit "unloved" sometimes?

Anyway, SIL's baby looks like a baby monkey she was only 6lbs 3oz and was very tiny. Quite sweet though. I was surprised she didnt make me clucky although I was still steaming at DH so babymaking is the last thing on my mind.

Just spotted an exercise bike on ebay that is in my local town for £9. Going to try and get on here at lunch time tomorrow and see if I can get it. Really need to tone more!

Right off to bed now. Will try and post after bike auction tomorrow.

mustrunmore · 26/08/2006 08:34

Jas... thats exactly what I say to dh too! But its all going to change now, as I want to stop bf to sleep etc, as its become a really bad habit, so we're going to 'swop chlidren' for a while to make ds2 less clingy. mind you, tried and failed last night We were going to tackle both at once. But dh ended up lying with ds1 again because he had bad tummy ache (prob all the blackberries he ate in the park!). And I tried to leave ds2 to cry himself to sleep, but I jusdt couldnt. Then we tried give to give him a bottle at 4am, but he went beserk But I did prob cut 20 secs off the other two feeds he had in the night. He's getting worse at night , not better. And he spent 80% of the night in our bed, which is also worse. Maybe we should just not try, as it seems to be better if we dont!!

mustrunmore · 26/08/2006 08:36

Frizbe; your lodger couldn't be like mine. Mine is totally 'unique'. I'm in seventh heaven now he's back, as long as he doesn't bring his girlfriend round too much.

Flamey · 26/08/2006 13:04

You are all making me feel sooo much better about my DH . He does change the nappies - just whinges . Nights out are fairly even, pretty much if you book before the other one, you get it. And I still tend to get my lie in.

Better night with DS. Went down awake at 7.30, had a feed about 10.30pm, and then slept IN HIS CRIB until 3.30am (he stirred at about 1.30 but somehow settled again), he was unsettled betweem 3.30 and 4.30 though and I gave up and brought him in with me because I was tired.

Spoken to Psychomum - YES PLEASE was the response to the sofabed

mustrunmore · 26/08/2006 16:25

No probs for sofabed

Had the worst night ever last night; totally gave up on the controlled crying for ds2, and didn't even get started on on gradual retreat as he was complaining of tummy ache which turned into full blown squits. Yuck!

dewmeadow · 26/08/2006 20:10

hiyall!! was away in dublin seeing radiohead, which was BRILLIANT!!!! though posh hotel was kippy and disappointing, though not too kippy for some loving with my beloved.

even though had great night away, back to porridge and being a farm widow. Dying to go out for a run and he is ploughing. I dont ask him to do much, just the odd hour here and there so I can exercise, and youd think I was asking for the moon sometimes. I feel a bit secondplace in the list of priorities...o hum..

Rory is showing signs of sleepiness so must put him down at once (no cry sleep book which I still havent finished) talk later x

Thell · 26/08/2006 20:34

Hello there. Hope you're all reasonably happy bunnies and managing to enjoy your weekends.

Angelcake is 6 months this week...was getting all excited about introducing solids, until I tried a bit of mashed banana and then another day baby rice - both times she clamped shut and showed no interest at all. Quite happy to chew a weaning spoon, as long as it hasn't been in contact with anything edible!!

Luckily for us I found a thread or two (and Aitch's fab website!) on BLW, which I'd never heard of until Monday, and DD seems to approve with the strategy . She's not sitting down to a three course meal or anything, but she sucked and chewed some courgette to pieces the other day. She'll have a gum at most things I present her with, but courgette, toast, red pepper and organix corn rings have all made it in and through and out again
Now comes the hard bit...not worrying that she's 'behind' if she doesn't eat 'meals' for a few more months,...
I've signed up for the BLW yahoo group so I don't have to constantly bend your ears about it, and found Aitch's excellent website. I'm all geared up !

mustrunmore · 26/08/2006 20:42

Oh dewmeadow... I'd love to have your lfe Even the bits you moan about. Not that mine is bad or anything, but i dont half miss the countryside being in London!

Mind you, I've finally managed to do a run tonight... ds2 went to sleep with no feeding for the first time ever, only because dh did it, not me, so there were no milk associations. Having said that, he's just woken up crying...

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/08/2006 20:46

Evening all.

dm - which hotel were you in - DH has stayed in a fair few over there so may know it? Glad you had a good time anyway, even if the hotel was a bit disappointing.
Does this book say to put them down at first bit of eye rubbing or yawning then? That'd be a nightmare here - she can yawn and eye rub even just after getting up from a nap!

Flamey - might take back my sympathies then until I manage to get a night out myself .

mrm - is lodger totally hot then? Pics please .

Jas - how was the night after boy's sleepy day?

Frizbe - would love to give DD pasta with cream cheese, but cream cheese not allowed here so no quick option .

Well I got to watch a movie last night. Only at home on DVD, but it's the first time I've had long enough undisturbed to sit and see a whole film - it's one I bought just before DD was born (Mrs Henderson Presents).

She slept through again last night, so we're aiming for 5 nights in a row tonight. Think there's a bit of teething pain again today, so have dosed her up with calpol to increase our chances!

Right, off to concentrate on Maria now (recorded earlier this evening).

Crossed posts mrm and Thell. mrm - come on up here if you want some countryside!

mustrunmore · 26/08/2006 20:55

Hello csws! Well, hot in my idea of things, prob no one elses. And its just a mind games thing too really. Gives me something to do! But he's 44, which is about my ideal. But doesn't have long hair We've known each other 10 years, him and dh have been friends for about 17. But he does look very good in a towel. And our bathroom is further away from the bedrooms than it was in our flat

mustrunmore · 26/08/2006 20:57

Oh, and a useless snippet of info is that I had my honeymoon first time round in Dublin. Stayed in Jurys on Landsdowne Rd over xmas. Didn't have a honeymoon this time, had a night in The Landmark, which was lovely.

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/08/2006 21:12

Is this your second marriage then mrm - didn't realise that - you should have put it on the thread of things other mn'ers didn't know about you!

OP posts:
Jasnem · 26/08/2006 21:41

Boy was 6 months yesterday
I gave him porridge today, to celebrate, and he loved it.
He also loves courgette, which is handy as my friend just gave me a huge marrow sized one from her allotment.

mrm - I need a pic of your lodger now

csws. Thanks for asking. Oddly he slept as much as any other night, with his one feed in the night. Up at 5.30.
I'm starting to feel bad about feeding him to sleep. Why is it a bad thing mrm?

WRT weaning. I keep reading about them needing iron now. I won't be giving him meat for a long time, so do I need to worry?
Thell (and I think Hotmama?) Are you worrying about it with the possibly slower start to weaning that comes with BLW?

NotAnOtter · 26/08/2006 21:51

lots of good weaning tips here. Baby boy cut two teeth yesterday after a foul mooded week - today he is back to old self.
That is interesting about iron - do any of you give supplements. i am vegetarian and dont rush to give meat.
Anyone heard all about this goats formula - i usually wean onto it

Jasnem · 26/08/2006 21:56

I've read about the gaots formula, but never used it. I intend to bf for a year this time and go straight on to cows milk.
I'm veggie, too (I won't be giving Boy meat until he's an age when I don't have to taste his food)

PhoenixGirl · 26/08/2006 21:59

Jas - Lewis sleeps better at night the more naps he has thru the day, weird isn't it.

Jasnem · 26/08/2006 22:02

Yes. I do think he hasn't had enough sleep lately (as the girls wake him up constantly) Only 10 days 'til they go back to school and I can try and re-establish some kind of order.

mustrunmore · 27/08/2006 10:08

wow, our so called lodger is getting a cult following on here

Yes, csws, it is second time round for me. First one was a huge mistake! Got together at 17, went to uni etc together, married at 21 half way through my teacher training, came to London, and got divorced at 23!!Was already seeing dh by then, so he took me out for a curry when the papers came through.

CantSleepWontSleep · 27/08/2006 10:33

Didn't know you'd done teacher training either mrm. Am I a really bad listener , or have you just not said? I went to uni to do teacher training too, but changed courses after my first year, as there 'wasn't enough maths in my course'!!!

Haven't heard anything about goats formula - can someone enlighten me please?

I asked the paed about vit supplements, as several books seem to suggest that bf babies should have them after 6 months, but he said that they just aren't used except in very extreme cases. DD has had liver and other red meat, so is getting iron that way, but she also has lots of spinach which is rich in iron, as is egg yolk. In fact last night she had sweet potato with chopped up boiled egg and spinach, so guess that was a lovely iron rich tea!

Jas - are you really tasting all of boy's food? I only taste it if she happens to be having the same as me!

Jas & mrm - I don't think that feeding to sleep is a bad thing at this stage as long as you and the babies are happy with it and it works. I think the theory about it being bad is only that it doesn't help them learn how to settle themselves, which one day they need to be able to do. I wonder more what you are supposed to do about cleaning their teeth before bed if they are having milk afterwards?

Well we didn't manage to make it 5 nights in a row, but was just up for 15 mins at 2:30, so still good.
