Right ladies - the race is on to see which of our DCs can self feed a sausage roll first!

Oh, and some of you don't seem to have aged since we got pregnant, so if you've got closer to your telegrams from the queen then please let me know!

mango

I've run out of holiday ideas, and am going a little stir crazy...off to the park.

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/08/2006 14:01

Fruit chunks - also no answer - I feed most, but let her make lots of mess with a squishy melon today, some of which she managed to get in her mouth.

Flame - Glad DS better, but hope your back feels better soon. Mine's sore today, but I think only because I carried DD around in the carrier earlier, and she's getting v heavy to do this with. Ordered a back carrier today, though don't know how practical that will be around the house!

dm - happy belated birthday! Sounds like you had a great time.

Anyone else had a hoarse baby? DD was like this when she had a cold the other week, but it seemed to get better, but now she's hoarse again (unless she just has a sexy husky voice ). Don't know if this is related to her waking or not. Woke every 40-60 mins again last night until about 1:30, then only woke once more (but resettled before I even got there to feed her!) before nearly 7. V odd.

My parents coming down again early tomorrow, so not sure how much I'll be on, although usually find a way if we're in!

I have a papaya sat in my fruit bowl which is probably past it's sell by date now coz I had no idea what to do with it

I am just cooking up a potato with brocolli, carrot and cauliflower - gonna cut it all up and let ds dive in on his high chair. Am hoping he will at least get some of it down his neck

I'm just so stuck on ideas about what to give ds as finger foods for his main meal. I have tried sandwichs and toast but he just sucks it and then throws it on the floor for the dog to eat, other than bread and carrot batons any other ideas anyone? I know I keep asking, sorry, I just panick he isn't getting enough solids in his tummy now coz I am trying to avoid all that is pureed

Happy Birthday Dewmeadow.

Ellenrose - hope everything goes ok for you in Devon.

Chloe55 · 22/08/2006 16:17

Actually, just checked the archives on here re finger food and have found a link you posted Jasnem which Aitch writes - it's really helpful.

Tis here for anyone who wants it.

Frizbe · 22/08/2006 16:24

Pasta twists
Cheese sticks (make your own out of cheddar or buy them from supermarket, you can get great individually wrapped ones for trips out)
Banana in long sticks
Cuecumber in long sticks
Brocolli
Cauliflower
Apples slices with skin off
Chunks of hard boiled egg
Homemade chips
Noodles - hours of kitchen decorating fun!

Things like muddles or cheerieos are great when they're a bit bigger, as are raisens and halved grapes

HTH's

Frizbe · 22/08/2006 16:26

Oh and of course, we're missing out on the thread title! you can always do mini sausages too!

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/08/2006 19:06

DD enjoyed another sandwich today

Back still hurting, but hooked on bloody messages in bottles so not laying down like I shouldbe . Had to leave the car at Psycho's and get my mum to driveme home cos one leg isn't co-operating.

Tried to give DS a pot of puree dinner stuff tonight and he got VERY stroppy... gave him some of his sister's hot pot,and he grinned and started shovelling it in. Think I'll do the odd puree dessert as and when I need easy, but the rest is just proper meals now.

PhoenixGirl · 22/08/2006 20:36

You're all so creative, i'm with chloe just done carrot sticks, toast and rice cakes, i really need to try some other things.

csws - Can't believe she came clean.

Chloe - If u're not doin aything tomorrow me and trace2 r going to the Eastfield Arms in Barnsley with the kids. A mn newbie is coming with us too with 4yo dd and i'm trying to get hold of stinkypete/amber5 to see if she wants to come. Its at 1pm. Let me know on this thread cos we've arranged it via msn not mn

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/08/2006 06:45

Morning all. Seems DD has remembered how to sleep through again . She woke twice before I'd gone to sleep, but settled herself within a couple of mins. I'd gone to bed early enough to allow for another bad one, so have now been up since 5:30! Heard her on monitor at 6:15, so thought she'd want to get up any mo, but have now made her breakfast and think she must have gone back to sleep!! Ah well, gives me a few mins to surf!

PG/Chloe - we haven't done that much stuff as finger food really. Just sandwiches and odd bits of fruit. Some soft melon (we used galia) and pears (Taylors gold are lovely and soft, but harder to find!) worked well here. Suppose I ought to try her with some veg this way. Will make that my task for the next week, although it's tempting to make her live on sandwiches if they help her to sleep this well!

Well after Lewis' really good night Sunday, he's been really unsettled for the last 2 nights and awake on and off loads between about 3 - 6 we haven't had to pick him up or anything just put his dummy back in and he'd go back to sleep but it'd only last a bit and he'd be crying/moaning again. So we've been up since 6.

Is slapping and nipping normal at this age? It boody hurts!

No work for me today, its my day off and i've got all next week off

damewashalot · 23/08/2006 08:29

Morning, feel rotten today had a bit of a funny head yesterday thought could be a creeping migraine(still could be) but am all bunged up today and feel not quite light headed but odd think my balance is a bit off so guess could be sinisus type thing but yuk just want to lie down, not an option with 3 kids around.

CSWS re sleeping and I can't remember anything else.

Oh flame, did you get emails from uk fly yet? I haven't even had a welcome one so wasn't sure if I did it right but sink is shiny

damewashalot · 23/08/2006 08:30

Oh! meant to say got a sitting baby with a tooth

Flamesparrow · 23/08/2006 08:34

I am still hurting It was meant to be better today!!!!

Night waking... I think we are now into the habit that he can't settle himself off to sleep again without me. I need to get strong with him and follow through with pu/pd or something. Tried last night, but was tired, back hurting, so gave up and fed him (which is probably what has started the pain in the first place - laying in bed with him).

Someone make me strong!!!

Anyone else sending bottles or fly ladying?

Flamesparrow · 23/08/2006 08:35

Oooh, x posts. Sorry about your migraine starty feeling

Nope, no emails here either DW

Oooh and MRM - DS is wearing his spider top now!!!!

Chloe55 · 23/08/2006 08:50

Morning ladies,

Well, ds ate maybe one or two bits of his potato and veg which I lovingly cut up for him yesterday - he found it more fun to throw at the dog who was eagerly sitting under his high chair just waitning for the scraps to fall.

LM - I do my nanna's cleaning on a wednesday so can't make the meet-up I'm afraid, thanks for asking though. And yes, ds nips all the time - in fact he nipped my nose this morning and actually drew blood the little git!

Hope you feel better today Dame and hope the back inproves Flame.

CSWS - what colour is the nappy this am?

mustrunmore · 23/08/2006 08:52

Hello all.
ds2 has decided to abandon the idea of sleeping at night. It took from 8pm tp 10pm to get them both to sleep last night, even with me and dh both on th case I really wanted to ddo a run last night.

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/08/2006 09:05

No poo yet Chloe!

Soothing vibes for backs/heads emanating from my direction.

I get hair pulling and grabbing bits of flesh rather than slapping - also hurts lots!

Another one with a tooth dwa - that's one thing I'm quite glad DD hasn't been early with.

OP posts:
dewmeadow · 23/08/2006 09:33

morning all! sorry to hear about your back Flame - healing vibes from across the sea are on their way. I'm reading that "no crying sleep solution" book which deals with breastfed babies, and I think its really good. Its more longterm than overnight success, but so sensible and untraumatic for mum and baby. In true Dew fashion Ive been half doing it before Ive finished the book and I think its effective if you have the energy. definitely worth the look.

DS loves to stand up on my knee and bounce v energetically - do you think I should get him some sort of bouncey thing?

he nips and scrabs too - his bloody nails grow so quickly!! and he is the king of the hairpulling people - poor DD!! is it just boys who are so rough?

never heard of word "gipping" - we say boking.

new Charlie is sort of making friends with Lola and is much more settled, but not as friendly as old Charlie.

mustrunmore · 23/08/2006 09:36

Would you like to summarise the book for me, to save me borrowing it from somewhere?! It'll also save me reading it

Jasnem · 23/08/2006 11:09

Only a quick visit, with healing vibes sent to Flame, and Migrane (forgotten who's suffering already.)

Yes we're message in a bottling (Flames fault, I avoided it 'til you mentioned ityesterday) DD1 is more addicted then me, so if you get bizarre childish messages, they may well be her!

Fly lady I was going to look into when the kids are away (I'm taking them on Friday)

Random slapping, and lots of hair pulling here.

Oh and I knew boking

Frizbe · 23/08/2006 11:10

Bokings a new one on me, and a sitting up baby with tooth too, congrats Dew

Flame, sorry to hear about back hope its better soon

MRM, it's horrible when that happens isn't it, I've bailed out before now and gotten home to a still screaming dd and a baffled dh
however with dh being away this week I've not even got out to run, as no baby sitters so my running partner is coming to me this evening for a girlie gossip although if its owt like last night she'll be helping me put them to bed......

Had a bad one girls, finally got my tea at 9.20pm.....after hissing at dd1 to go to sleep or I'd shut her door for the night.....dd2 had taken nearly as long to settle as well and then I fed her at 10:15, and she woke at 2am, what's all that about then? slept until 7.30 tho......

Hi to everyone else, hope your having good days, dd1 has just managed to break the dvd player here, as the open shut bit will now not shut properly.... dh is going to kill me for that one.

mustrunmore · 23/08/2006 11:15

Hi Frizbe! I'm really hoping to get a run in tonight if it kills me! Should be better now we've got our part time lodger back, once I've got back into shape and can do it in front of him, as he can then babysit to give me chance. Long story, but he's got mno money, so owes me bigtime!

ds2 will never have teeth or hair. It took ds1 about 8 months for a tooth, and 18 months for hair!!

Oooh - a book summary would be good for me too

No gipping or boking down here - just ya basic gagging.

Sorry for getting you all bottling

still about Charlie.

MRM - DS is severely lacking in the teeth/hair dept too. The teeny bit of tooth never came to anything more, he just has a white spot on his gum!
