QQ I need a birthday present for a four year old boy, I feel poo and haven't got the energy to put shopping effort in, bad friend that I am. DH is popping to town and there's a big next, Argos and mothercare. Any suggestions for toys? If not I'll send him to Next for a jumper or something

Lily311 · 01/02/2014 14:40

Lego and books fatima. My 4 year old nephew wants those or superhero costume.

ValiumQueen · 01/02/2014 15:11

Fatima look on the Argos website and check out the clearance for that particular store. You will likely get inspiration and a bargain.

ValiumQueen · 01/02/2014 15:13

Parking sensors are great until they stop working. I am dreading how much they will cost to fix.

StuntNun · 01/02/2014 15:14

The 11 plus results are out today and DS1 has done rather well polished fingernails on shirt in a proud mum manner. We knew he had done well but it's nice to have the official results in hand. So he'll be able to go the school he wants to. DH asked him what he wanted for a celebratory dinner and he said poussin! I don't think he's ever had it before, he must have seen them in the supermarket.

We have a pressure gate here -after buying 2 different normal ones and about 5 million 20 holes in the wall which just kept crumbling as the house and therefore plaster is 100 years old, it seemed much safer and more sensible to opt for the pressure ones. As long as we made sure it was in really tight and I check it to make sure it hasn't loosened periodically, touch wood it seems to be doing fine.

PurplePidjin · 01/02/2014 16:10

Books, colouring or craft stuff, building or science kits

PurplePidjin · 01/02/2014 16:11

Hurrah stunt and well done ds1 Thanks

Sophiathestormfairy · 01/02/2014 16:17

fatima it was my sacrum, same vicinity broadly speaking. I though was my coxyx but no. A lot of physio sorted it and doing my excercise every day. But question away. Xx

Lily311 · 01/02/2014 17:50

Well done mini stunt or more like teen stunt.

Pls tell me that dexter will dress better. Trivial, I know.

TheDetective · 01/02/2014 17:51

I seem to have acquired some sort of tummy arse bug.

O has had the same.

I may need sudacrem Shock.

My entire abdomen is gurgling. I got some strange looks while out today Blush.

TheDetective · 01/02/2014 17:53

Dexter dresses better, like Deb stops saying fuck.

Grin

Well done elder stunt! Fancy tastes there... Enjoy the poussin!

ValiumQueen · 01/02/2014 17:59

Once you have seen Dexter with his kit off you really don't care what he is wearing. I could do naughty things to him given half a chance.

Lily311 · 01/02/2014 18:16

*vq Grin. I could so do him.

ChasingDaisy · 01/02/2014 18:25

Ooh I like the sound of this Dexter chap Grin

I am supposed to be studying for my theory test...maybe after I've eaten dinner. And read this magazine...

Lily311 · 01/02/2014 18:39

Go back to studying chasing.

Dexter is off limit, there is a queue already to get him.

BigPigLittlePig · 01/02/2014 19:11

I have to admit, I haven't watched any of this dexter, or indeed any of the other tv programmes mentioned every so often.

Had a near miss at teatime. New brand of omeprazole, and luckily I was being mildly stupid and couldn't get the capsule out the packet. Anyway, the delay gave me chance to spot the big "contains lactose" label on the front of the box. Phew, don't need to make my nights any worse.

What are peoples plans for tomorrow? Any adventures planned?

YellowWellies · 01/02/2014 19:37

I just made a dairy free mac n fake cheese Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy BOAK even with smoked pancetta and half the garlic grinder it just tasted like plastic. PR when I'm back on dairy I want the recipe for your bad boy!

Never mind - tonight is dairy challenge night and on the menu are roast beef Monster Munch and a biscuit and raisin Yorkie bar Come to Mumma! And we haz Dexter on Love film to catch up on. I don't fancy him though Confused he's a bit ginge.

Tomo we are walking the dog, tackling mount washmore and building bedside tables. High octane living at Casa Wellies. Hmm

Evilwater · 01/02/2014 19:47

Well it finally stopped rainning, yay Grin so N finally got a walk. Grin but it was very cold with the wind.

N is feeling better again, he's getting his cheekiness back. I think his ear is still hurting him and Tonight was his last dose. I'll see how he is tomorrow and i think he might need some more. Also he's not eating loads.

On a werid note, N is just stuffing his face full and grinning at me with a look of "looking at me, I can stuff this.... In my mouth" que OMFG... Get it out!

Oh and I got the bill for nursey today too, almost £300. Sad now just doing my budget again, I also bought new work shoes, and the credit card it £200 too.

PetiteRaleuse · 01/02/2014 19:55

No adventures planned for tomorrow. Just menu prep and dog walking and planning of adventures for the next two weeks of fun with DH.

Have promised DD1 swimming, and a pony ride. I think I might lug my fat arse onto a bike. I am also toying with the idea of finally getting back on a horse after almost five years since breaking my back. There are a lot of people who would be proud of me if I do, but others who would bollock me at the risk. It's not really fear but the doctors did tell me another similar fall would be unwise. I don't have boots or jodphurs anymore as I was cut out of them at hospital after my last accident... I'd like to say I'd play it safe in an indoor school but my last accident was during a warm up trot in an indoor school... But I know that putting DD1 on a pony will reignite the obsession.

Erm other than that I will be working on building myself up to rtw. My third shrink has dumped me. She was lovely but is never available. We had an appointment on Monday which she cancelled and could only fit me in to an unsuitable slot. I suggested we did the appointment by phone but she said she doesn't do that and would email me if a slot freed up. And didn't. I have guests all next week and the week after I really need a rtw coaching session.

Which reminds me, I need to buy a rtw outfit. Am unsure as to how many I will need so will just invest in a nice flattering pair of trousers. Which reminds me again. I have started to retrain my feet to high heels. Hadn't tried since before my back accident but am aiming for max effect. Ow.

I doubt I will bother with the slap though. My make up is all dried out (last used over 3 years ago) and am not investing in more :o

PetiteRaleuse · 01/02/2014 19:59

Ooh we went shoe shopping for the girls today. Got a fab pair of trainers for LO at €8 in the sales. I channeled my inner vq Bargain Hunter . Bought LO some kickers 6 weeks ago and they already don't fit. She was an 18 back then, bought 19. Measured her today and she is 20. Bought her some wellies too. If she is going to insist on walking in the fields then she's damn well going to be using washable shoes.

Evilwater · 01/02/2014 20:00

I also have a stairgate issue too, I'm waiting for the children's centre guy to come and fix it. There is about a 3 month or so wait. Sad. Yes he has fallen down the first three stairs too. No bump or bruise.

The support lady, was asking if there was a man with a drill that could come and put the one they gave me up. No as my answer, I'd like it done properly.

The two men that could, one is dealing with his wife who has cancer. My dad, well not so safe with a drill these days. So no. She asks every time. I wouldn't have asked for there help if I someone could pop it up.

ChasingDaisy · 01/02/2014 20:09

although O can now climb stairs, which saves my back from carrying him up the stairs to the flat.

PR your accident sounds horrific. Your description of being cut out of your jodhs made my blood run cold. I completely understand wanting to get back on though. FWIW I would be in the proud camp

Right, now I REALLY am going to do some studying...

Passmethecrisps · 01/02/2014 20:18

Evening.

I am amazed at omeprazole containing lactose bp! Good spot though.

Your day tomorrow yw sounds much like what we have planned. We never, ever get to the bottom of our laundry pile. It is so depressing.

P was a miserable nap dodger today weirdly. Complete and utter hysterics every time we tried. We ended up going out in the car so she got about 45 mins in the end. She also almost completely refused tea and drank only half a bottle of milk. I really hope that doesn't mean she is up super early tomorrow morning.

I bought new pens for me - pink and purple - and two new books for p. Paper dolls and a squash and a squeeze. Paper dolls made me fill up.

We are currently watching treme which is good. No violence of murdering.

I have never done a spa day either. I very occasionally have my eyebrows waxed and had a facial every week the month before I got married. But I did my own make up. No pedi or mani. I am allergic to nail polish though. It doesn't massively appeal to me tbh.

How's the studying going chasing? Good job on the essay result bp.

PetiteRaleuse · 01/02/2014 20:31

It was a big fuss about nothing. They knew I had broken my back from my DH's description of the fall and my reaction to it. They shoved me in a weird thing so I couldn't move for hours until the MRI'd me. They were convinced I needed a splenectomy in ER so moved me up to gastro ward before spinal injuries. The surgeon (who, coincidentally I got to know v well a few years later when I had a real emergency) looked at my mri and laughed. Said they'd only said I needed surgery to get me out of ER and free up a space. He sent me up to spinal injuries. A bloke came in to fit me for a brace - a GP who made them on the side - and I was out in three days. Accident on Thursday and home Sunday afternoon. Was v painful for a few weeks, and will never be right. But it was as minor a breaking back injury as you could ever get. No nerve damage, just two broken vertebrae which broke outwards. I still have a lump at bra strap level, and am half an inch shorter than I was before. The hospital were brilliant. But it really was, compared to the other patients in spinal injuries, nothing. The bloke in the next room had been a normal healthy fully functioning adult til that week. He was fine. But paralysed from the waist down. The lady in the room on the other side was about to be transferred to a care home. She had fallen off a horse too a month before me and was never going to speak, eat or do anything independently again. Puts my little fall into perspective.
