Hello ladies, can you believe we will be entering into a 6th year of this thread this year?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Artichokes · 23/05/2014 21:42

Ow Kayz, I hope you recover quickly.

What did the HV say about DD3 Beams? It's reassuring that mini-Rubes did similar.

Sybs I bet you are not huge. I must say however that I'm loving the feeling that comes with having your figure back under control. I've actually had four compliments in the last week which was lovely. So there are perks to dieting.

I've had the Mirena fitted. I'm in agony and feel awful. It's like my whole body is reacting against it. I'm postponing our holiday to Wales by 24 hours so I can get it out. Ugh. It's very clearly time for DH to be snipped as I have suffered quite enough for the sake is us having and now not-having-more children.

Vagolajahooli · 24/05/2014 08:06

Rubes I scoured my posts trying to work out why you had hit me, then saw your second post. Hiyaaaa!

at DS1's swimming lessons this morning, was nice to ride here after a few weeks off due to rain and the trip to Madrid. Next week is a long weekend as the kids have Thursday & Friday off for Hemelvaart (Ascension) weekend. For a country that broke away from the catholics and produced the Dutch masters they observe a lot of religious holidays here.

I had DS2s class lunchtime supervision on Thursday I do it every second week. It's good for my Dutch. The boys are pretty easy to handle but I find the girls quite tiring. I generally understand what they're saying but cannot for the life of me figure out what the issue is that they are coming to me with. Usually it centers around one girl who is just a horrid bully who they all seem to want to be friends with. Anyway this week one girl threw up & another had a seizure. I must say it was actually quite nice to know what to do and have something familiar to deal with. I think I will definitely get into special needs teaching. Seizing children are more up my street I think.

That's lovely you got some compliments Arti. you definitely have the best legs on the thread.

urgh I just had a gulp of my thermos coffee, I'm using a new dishwashing tablet that puts a lemony stink over all our stuff. I can smell it on my coffee cup. Gross.

I am two exams out from finishing these two units. It has been tough but I've quite enjoyed it. Next term I'm going to do just one unit. I have been doing English language & literature this term & a general education subject. They are brilliant but with all the moving stuff school holidays and the usual kids things, I don't think I have gotten the most out of them. So next term I am doing the next level English on its own. It's an important subject so I want to get it all in. I've skimmeda bbit too much this term.

I feel a bit jealous of all the books, I've been too busy to read anything other than textbooks. However, I did just buy 'The adventure of English' by Melvin Bragg, which is kind of to do with my course so best of both worlds.

Indith how is your course.

oh and Beans kids do weird stuff as they are sorting out their muscles and connecting synapses, I would definitely bring it up with your HV but if she doesn't make you feel at ease have a chat to your GP. But I am confident it is fine. Obviously I'm not there to look at it when it happens, so hard to comment, but if you are really worried I'd be happy to chat about it if you PM me.

Haha Vag that's funny - sorry darn typos.
Arti how long since you had it fitted? It can take 2-3 weeks to settle after initial fitting they say then can be weeks before it's exactly right. I wanted mine out at first but was ok in the end. That said if dh can have the snip then much better idea!
Ds melted down in his assembly on Thurs. Wouldn't take part at and they said he was teary all week wanting to go home. It's all so unusual but we've gotten to the bottom of it we think. Dh was also at home all week on annual leave (as we were due to move this week) and ds associates nothing but bike riding and play station etc with dh. So he wanted to be home with him. Just highlights how much he must enjoy that 1 or so day a week we usually hang out all together when dh has a day off, and further re enforces for me why I hate mil muscling in on every spare second the 4 of us have. Speaking of which we've been so busy and dh hasn't even gotten around to getting back to her. I think she's wanting to come over tomorrow. Guess he'd better let her as I think she's learnt from the mistake in telling the kids if bring them over. That was nearly 6 weeks ago now!
Right 1.5 hours of ballet to sit through today then the new owners coming to measure up some rooms here. Will have to run my new (lovely) washing machine as the kitchen sink backs up and makes a horrendous gurgling sound!
We are ADDICTED to Breaking Bad. My brother has been trying to get us to watch it for ages but never did until now. Tis genius. (NO spoilers please!!!!!)

beans37 · 24/05/2014 19:36

I'm with you on Breaking Bad Rubes. Genius.
Thanks for enquiries about DD3. The HV said pretty much what you did, Vag, about learning their muscles etc. so feel a bit more relaxed about it.

HOWEVER! DD3 has terrible nappy rash, so I took her to GP as nothing seemed to be working. He thought it might be thrush and prescribed something called Trimodine. It was bad enough, but after 24 hours of it, it seems to have burnt DD3's bottom and she now has open sores and was screaming and shaking when I applied it. I've gone back to Metanium and hoping it'll clear it up. She already seems a bit happier. But bottom stills red, swollen and sore. Am using just cotton wool and water, no wipes. Ouchio.

Went out for dinner with local friends to their house last night and didnt drink much as was driving, but woke up feeling rotten (maybe its the constant 5am starts??). Then we went out for lunch to some friends for a BBQ today. I ate far too much, and had 3 glasses of wine as we had walked there and thought it might help (dickhead!!). Got home and vomited copiously. Which was nice.

Sybs, how is your HOLIDAY!

Kayz, how are your teeth, or lack thereof?

I am officially freezing. Where's summer, eh?

beans37 · 24/05/2014 19:37

Oh and DD3 has squits, just to add acid poo into the nappy rash mix. Poor little bird.

Mckayz · 24/05/2014 19:39

Poor DD3 Beans. I hope the metanium helps.

My teeth/holes are fine. I'm quite surprised actually. Everyone told me it's really painful for a week or so afterwards. But it's been fine. Not had any painkillers today as I haven't needed them.

Artichokes · 24/05/2014 20:40

Veggie, as you coped dowell with the playground vim could you come here, to mine, right now??? DS just vommed more liquid than it is physically possible that his whole body could h

Artichokes · 24/05/2014 20:44

... (Opps) could hold. Vim hit the walls, the Florence, the bed, drenched me. It flowed and flowed. We are meant to be going to Wales tomorrow (delayed for Mirena extraction) but its looking doubtful. Girls in tears.

Sorry to hear about your puke Beans, and DD3's bum, good to hear the HV wasn't worried re the head movements.

Rubes, we loved Breaking Bad too but haven't got S.4 yet. Where are you up to?

Artichokes · 24/05/2014 20:45

Vim? The Florence (I.e the floor)? Sorry.

Mckayz · 24/05/2014 20:54

Sorry about the vom Arti!

I've just taken those awful dvt stockings off. Horrible things.

beans37 · 25/05/2014 06:56

Ooh Arti, that's just not good. How is DS today? Any chance of going to Wales?

all well here, although am tired of being up at 5.30. So dreary.

DD3's bottom seems to be recovering a bit. Using cotton wool and metanium seems to be doing the trick.

Off to stay at sister in law's and her challenging children today. Joy.

sybsie · 25/05/2014 08:42

Beans, sorry yo hear about DDs bum. I found metanium the business, coupled with a bland ish diet do her pop is as adonyne as possible. No citrus, kiwi etc for a few days. I find being hugely knackered leads to the most wretched hangovers, often with explosive diarrhoea for me (sorry TMI). Hope you are ok today. Is Dh around or has he home off sporting?

Arti, huge sympthaties on the vom but you are AMAZING for dealing with it after your emetophobe troubles. How is he today? I find my lot sometimes have a huge clear out and then are completely fine so you might be lucky with your trip. Where in Wales are you going?

Good news on the teeth kayz.

Holiday nice but wet. 175 miles yest with wipers on. Had 2 gins in pm and fell asleep. Still, no rain today

sybsie · 25/05/2014 08:46

We are going yo look for shells, possibly go yo dinosaur land then off to mark hix for smart lunch. House is on a big hill which terrifies me as s London is v flat by comparison. Low gears all round. Our house is also full of sodding elastic bands and I am constantly being given crazy loom bracelets, rings etc. wonder how long the craze will last.

sybsie · 25/05/2014 08:50

House is new build with fire doors so the crashes and bangs are hideous. Oh dear. Hope Dh finds his sense of humour as he's been a bit scratchy this morning.

Hope the sun comes out for you all and have a lovely bank hol.

Love to everyone

JamInMyWellies · 25/05/2014 10:59

Arti how is DS this morning?

Glad to hear DDs bot is a bit better today Beans. By the way we need a catch up soon.

Sybs have a super holiday.

Rubes when are you now moving?

Goodness Kayz dVT socks for wisdom teeth. When I had mine taken out I was sent home from hosie with nothing but paracetemol.

Right inlaws for lunch eurgh. Gotta dash.

Mckayz · 25/05/2014 13:51

Jam, they said to keep them on for 24-48 hours. So I thought 30ish hours would do.

My mouth aches today. I was hoping I had missed out on pain as it was fine yesterday.

Indith · 25/05/2014 13:54

Hello!

Typically I set aside this afternoon for study and it is sunnyish. Humph. So the dcs have been at the park and bike riding and stuff and I have not :(. Think ds1 is still out, not seen/heard him in ages. I suppose he will get hungry at some point and come in for lunch.

Jam I feel your house purchase fury. Hope it all irons itself out! We are remortgaging as our fix is up and that is bad enough!

Sybs how is the holiday? Dinosaur land sounds fun, where is it?

Kayz hope the teeth are still ok. Those stockings are evil, least you never had a section. We give the full length ones and make you wear them for 6 weeks Grin.

Arti bless you, you always manage to land large amounts of vomit. You deal with it so well Wine. How is the mirena today? Tell your dh that mine was absolutely fine post snip. he no scalpel thingy is so quick and easy.

Beans sympathy for poor dd3's bum. My dd used to get horrible rash when teething, it would blister and pop and get infected. We had lots of different creams from chemist but I found the best thing was to use flannels/cotton wool not wet wipes. Dampen slightly and put some of ds1's diprobase cream in them and wipe with those then give her some time with no nappy and to watch her like a hawk so I could change as soon as she was wet in addition to dirty so she was never sitting in wee or poo. I think we used metanium on her too. But mostly tbh the waitrose stuff that is mostly cocoa butter was the best.

Rubes I don't blame you for being excited about laundry! Sounds fab! I really do still want a tumble dryer Envy. Especially after the past couple of days of pouring rain with 3 loads of washing draped around on the airers with the dehumidifier running full blast.

Vag glad you are enjoying your course. I think you are wise (when are you ever not wise?) to cut back a little and take your time with it, you will get so much more out of it.

Mine is going ok, have a lot to try to wrap my head around and sort out for my evidence file at the moment although I helpfully left my documents wiht my learning log and learning outcomes on the ward on Friday (I hope, if it isn't there I've lost it!) so I'm a little bit stuck but still have some bits in mind to read this afternoon. I really, absolutely 100% do not want to be a nurse though! I'm not hating this placement as such but I cna't build enthusiasm for it and I jsut end up clock watching on shifts which I never do on maternity. The nurses are fantastic, the ward is so well organised, brilliant with students, really take their time to explain everything and make sure we get the most we can from it. Their level of skill is unreal. I've been to theatre to accompany a patient all the way through the process and back to the ward, I've been to urodynamics, to colposcopy, all sorts. I can see where it all fits in and I'm picking out the most relevant bits to bone up on for my file. But ultimately I just feel bored and can't wait to get the shifts over and done with. And then I feel ashamed of feeling bored because we are always busy and the stuff itself that they are teaching me is important and in itself is interesting. I just don't find the job the information comes with interesting!

2 weeks down, 5 to go. 2 of those will be on ICCU so will be a change of scene.

I want a steam mop I think. How to persuade dh?

Also. My carpet is fucked. I had just about got the blood off nose bleed 1 done and dd had another one. It looks like someone was murdered in dd's room and the body was dragged through the spare room and down 2 flights of stairs while spurting blood. I scrubbed with cold water straight away but it didn't do anything. I've since used simple oxy action type carpet cleaners that shouldn't set the stains in and the marks vanish for a few hours and then come back! Driving me mad. I think the ones I've treated the most times are not as dark as they were now so I think my next attempt will be to treat then use the Vax on the carpet straight away to see if that does the trick. After that I will cry. The carpet on this (her) floor and stairs was is the only newish, half way decent carpet in the house.

Kind of excited about London on Friday! Have a loose plan of action now and have booked dino gallery tickets for 10am Sunday morning so hopefully not too much of a queue. May go for the museum lates on Friday night but have them as back up!

Indith · 25/05/2014 13:55

Cross post Kayz. Keep on top of the pain! Much easier to keep on top of it than get on top of it!

Honsandrevels · 25/05/2014 20:12

Vag I sympathise with the lemony flask. DH once put bovril in the flask. It was cleaned but the next time we used it we put coffee in and it was absolutely foul. Meaty coffee. I chucked the flask in the bin.

Kayz Hope the teeth settle down.

Sybs Any sunshine on the horizon? It has been awful here. The tiny band bracelet thing seems to be going round dd1's school too! DD wants me to make her one. I've no idea!

I bought Frozen yesterday and we've already watched it 3 times! In my defence it has been raining a lot. My two love the fact it is two sisters who look like them (although dd1 has blonde not white hair!).

Did you try salt on the carpet Indith? I think the blood has to be fresh for that.

Indith · 25/05/2014 21:15

Hons my lot saw it for the first time during the easter hols. They have now seen it far too many times already and know all the songs and so do I because they never, ever, EVER stop singing them. Ever. I constantly have let it go in my head. It is the most annoying ear worm!

I did salt. I'm quite good at my old fashioned clean ups. Which just makes it all the more annoying!

Bil phoned today to tell us about a thing called dinosaur zoo coming to a theatre in Manchester where they live. It is over from Australia but I think coming to the end of the tour. Google it, the videos look mint. He is booking tickets for us all. Dd will pee her pants.

On that note, anyone else has a child who still does that on s regular basis? I think she just doesn't care, it isn't on her radar. So she wets once or twice a week at school but doesn't care, she doesn't even tell anyone so sometimes it had all dried again by the time anyone notices and she stinks of stale wee.

Of course now it is near the end of the year the teacher is very keen for us to sort it as it will drag dd's scores down and she scores highly everywhere else. Now I don't care about that. It pisses me off when she does it on the sofa but like I said I just think she doesn't care and she will grow out of it. I was still having accidents at school in year 3. But what do I do with school on my case? I feel like I should ring the school nurse in the hope they support me but then I worry that if I do they will want to send her for tests which will make s big thing of it and potentially be invasive. she could do with drinking more but she does good sized wees, doesn't dribble or leak or show any signs of overtactive or irritable bladder or anything. She just can't be arsed.

Wondering if sending her with a drinks bottle with levels to show how far down she should drink to at break, and lunch etc may help her to drink more? Then a diary with wee times for her to tick when she has tried so that she goes to the loo at break, lunch, mid afternoon, tidy up time etc to try to place responsibility of remembering to go on her? She almost never goes for a wee herself. She goes for a poo fine but only does a wee when we send them for wee and hand wash before meals or last weer before bed. School do remind her to try too but obv doesn't always work.

She is still in pull up at night. Nowhere near ready to ditch that. Neither was ds1 at this age though and then a couple of months later he was dry so am hoping it won't be long!

JamInMyWellies · 26/05/2014 09:16

The boy slept through! Grin My poor boobs however, ouch. I totally forgot about what happens when they sleep through. My bed is soaking wet inc the duvet. Yeuch. Really not sure what to do about that as I am having constant oversupply issues. Only in one boob. It constantly runs milk. I have to change breast pads every hr. Even after a feed it still drips. If this is going to be a regular thing am going to have to go to bed with towels tied round my boobs. But lets focus on teh positive I had 8 straight hrs. Shock Grin

JamInMyWellies · 26/05/2014 09:24

Sorry Indith, about your DD. I think the stickers and continually reminding her will help. Do you think she cant feel it happening or is really not bothered? If the teachers and you work out a plan so that she is taken to the toilet every couple of hrs and then you can start stretching it out to longer periods of time. So when she wakes, before leaving for school, upon arriving at school, before break-time, after break-time, before lunch etc etc. The she is not going more than 2 hrs then hopefully over time she will get into a routine.

Vagolajahooli · 26/05/2014 13:26

Indith I think the word you are looking for is mundane. Ward work can be quite mundane. I have to admit I was usually too busy to be bored, but I found the lack of autonomy on UK wards a bit annoying. If you're used to the autonomy of midwifery you will find the wards quite mundane as you use your initiativeless. In Australia I had a lot more say in my patients care. It is why I went into schools & the community. Ironically, MWs in Australia have way less autonomy than UK MWs.

yay for the full nights sleep Jam hope there are more to come.

Arti, sorry about the vom. Wish I could pop over & help when your littlies are spewy.

I can't believe the UK EU elections results are assumed to be due to a swing against the EU and not due to voter apathy. Parties need to work to engage people to vote not change their policies. Interestingly, NL voted pro EU, maybe because we have put up with the nutter Gert Wilders for a while now, way worse than Farage.

oh & Sybs those wrist bands are over here, though my boys aren't actually making them, but receiving them from their lady friends at school.

beans37 · 26/05/2014 22:13

Thanks for nappy rash tips. I only went and forgot the effing Metanium on weekend away and it's worse than ever, just as it was improving. Feel like such a stupid cow.

Lots to catch up on, but went to visit my wonderful Granny, who has dementia today. She can hardly remember anything, and little she says make sense, but it was a delight to see her, as her beautiful nature just shines through. She's always called everyone "Ducky", and that's what all the staff at her nursing home call her. It's just glorious and is making me well up. They told me how lovely she is. It was so touching. She had a lovely hold of DD3 and thought the others were lovely, even though she had no idea who they were. I have missed her and been crap at visiting, I must go soon. It was DH's idea to go as it was. I was mortified I hadn't thought of it. It's been over a year. I'm officially crap.
