Hello ladies, can you believe we will be entering into a 6th year of this thread this year?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
beans37 · 11/05/2014 12:49

Arti! One! I can't believe it! Means DD3 is nearly 8 months! Where the hell did that time go? Was just looking at all 3 of the girls in the playroom and thinking how lucky I am. Although DD3 on the cusp of crawling... That I'm not looking forward to so much!

Does everyone else do roasts on a Sunday? I feel a bit silly because DH is away so there's really no need, but I think it's important to have that big family meal together. I've cooked far too much, of course, so will be eating it for a while! DD3 can have some mashed up for her supper tonight. Plus the girls love a roast potato!

JustRubes · 11/05/2014 22:03

NY was quick this time, but I love a 2 day bullet trip when I get a glass of wine followed by 10 yes TEN hours sleep. Having said that, i'd get that at home if I went to bed earlier but just never seem to.
Arti / beans cannot believe how quick that time has gone! Wow.
I'd have a roast every Sunday if more organised and might try to from now more consistently as we always did growing up.
Right. A little nightcap then bed and 2 little people to say hi to at 7am! Xx

ShadyLadyT · 12/05/2014 10:43

Ahhh, New York...am thinking about a quick trip there whilst I can still fly. I love it, have mates there I would adore to see and it might be the last chance for a while....

Need to take DD2 into Oxford as I think she needs new shoes...have too much else to do but I can't neglect the poor child's feet. Re: what others have been saying about our two smallest ones on the thread growing up fast, I do cherish this time with DD2, though, so a little trip and lunch out just the two of us will be nice, despite the nagging feelings re: work etc.

We don't do a roast every Sunday - maybe once a month? I buy a Quorn Roast! But I also love roasties, veggies with gravy etc. DD1 doesn't eat any of it. And I think it's a lovely thing to do.

DD1 soaked the bed again this morn...still waiting for tips and reassurance from you ladies....!

Artichokes · 12/05/2014 13:46

Lady, my DD2 still wears pull-ups at night and they are still soaked evry morning. She has never had a dry night. It distresses her greatly and she worries and worries about people knowing that she has to wear pull-ups. When we holiday with other families she talks about how to hide her pull-ups while on holiday. Yesterday she told me she had told her best friend (whose family is coming to Wales with us in May half term) but had sworn her friend to secrecy as it was DD2's "worst secret ever." Because its the source of such stress I have asked the GP about it but they say its relatively normal at this age and they will not investigate it yet. Im not sure how comforting that is but basically your DD1 is not alone and is actually way ahead of DD2.

On the topic of roasts we do them when we have guests, so maybe once a month, but we often go to the inlaws on a Sunday and have a roast there. If we are all home but without guests I make sure I do a proper nice lunch but rarely a roast. Yesterday I did a lovely beef and veg stew with a chocolate and fruit fondue for desert. The chocolate fondue is a great way to get the kids to eat any fruit going. The stew was a huge success with DD2 and DS but DD1 made a massive fuss about the presence of butternut squash and parsnips. I have never found a meal we ALL love, although having said that we do all love roasts so maybe I should do them more!

Artichokes · 12/05/2014 13:47

Btw did I tell you all that I am having a girls weekend in Nice in three weeks? I am going with six local mum friends and we have rented a seafront apartment. I am so excited and dieting hard as they are all skinny minnies. I ruined it all with the chocolate fondue yesterday.

Honsandrevels · 12/05/2014 14:09

Arti and lady Do not panic on the bed wetting. Both my brother's wet the bed for years and years and nothing made a difference, alarms, no drinks post 6pm etc. They just both grew out of it in time. I forgot to put a nappy on dd2 the other night and the resulting wet bedclothes were an oddly nostalgic childhood smell for me!

Beans I love all the trimmings to a roast but don't make one weekly because my mum did and we all had it microwaved on a Monday and then curried on a Tuesday. Curried as in everything chopped up into the curry sauce, Yorkshire puddings and all! I make a roast maybe monthly but make a more special meal or at least have a nice pudding. Never make curried Sunday lunch though!

JustRubes · 12/05/2014 14:32

lady don't panic, my brother and I both wet the bed until we were about 8! Mum had us at the GP and I remember this puzzle thing we had to do. My brothers youngest is 9 and only been consistantly dry at night a few months now.
DS has been dry since Summer last I think, but has the occasional accidents if he's in a deep sleep, has milk too late or forgets to wee before bed, but dd I'm not so sure... she still wets her pull up most nights.
Oh and I don't have a hernia - dh had a look at the MRI - will try and find a link to it as I can't remember - it's not serious but quite rare I'm told!

JustRubes · 12/05/2014 14:36

It's this

ShadyLadyT · 12/05/2014 15:02

Arti, but you are in a size 10! And you have all that lovely height. You will more than hold your own! A girls' weekend in Nice sounds fantastic...I am sorry about DD2, it's horrid when they are stressed. DD1 wets the bed probably one night in every three and DP thinks she should go back in pull ups but I know this would make DD1 very sad... so I carry on with the extra washing. I don't know if this is right or not. However, in school holidays she hardly wets the bed at all, if ever, so could be stress related. Maybe for your DD2 too?

Actually, two of the names we are mulling over are at least a bit poncy so don't worry! The third is fairly normal but may be the one I like the best. However, DP is saying it's his turn with the first name (we both chose DD1's name equally, then DD2's name was admittedly my choice so he chose both the middle names). I will tell you the names we have each vetoed though. I think I already mentioned DP's love of the name Salome (wrong on so many levels) and he has vetoed, in turn, my Christabel, Isadora, and Aster, which I really love. So the three names we are choosing between are ones we both like but aren't our very favourites.

ShadyLadyT · 12/05/2014 15:03

Ooh, hang on, missed Hons' and Rubes' posts! Will make a coffee and return.

ShadyLadyT · 12/05/2014 15:25

Rubes, that is a weird one. What the f?!# is the canal of Nuck?! I couldn't follow half of that explanation but I hope it is a better result for you and treatment will be minimal.

Thanks for the reassurance on the bed wetting, girls. I think the fact is (which I half suspected) is that they do all this stuff only when they are ready - walking, talking, daytime TT, nighttime TT, the whole caboodle. So I will carry on with what I am doing and hope for the best. I bet loads of 5 year olds aren't entirely dry at night...Any further luck with poos and DD2, Hons?

Our cricket ground for Sunday has fallen through last minute. So now I have 11 anxious cricketers bugging me every five minutes to see if I have sorted an alternative ground. Better crack on....

Oh, and Arti, you were asking about DP's job. He is changing in mid-July. He is doing precisely the same thing though, in the same Crown Courts - Oxford, Reading, London etc. just in house and for an actual monthly salary instead of the ridonculous way he gets paid at the moment (eg he is still waiting to be paid for a couple of trials he did TWO years ago! although that is fairly rare). He will be at home less though. But the extra financial stability will be a massive help.

Mckayz · 12/05/2014 15:54

Shady, how on earth could he veto Christabel. It is a lovely name. DH vetoed it for DD.

DS2 has only been dry at night for the past couple of months. I was/am really worried he would start wetting the bed again when DH went but so far so good.

Rubes, that is strange. Will you need surgery or is it ok to leave?

ShadyLadyT · 12/05/2014 16:07

Well, I think at least part of his rationale is that she would spend her life being 'Chris' and I do take his point.

I like Amaryllis as well. Another no!

Honsandrevels · 12/05/2014 18:28

BREAKING NEWS: DD2 has just done a poo on the potty! It like like a party here, we've even blown up some balloons!

Artichokes · 12/05/2014 21:03

Lol Hons. There ain't no party like a poo club party. Well done mini-Hons!

Lady, I adore Isadora. It was on my list along with Dorothea and Isolde. I also like Amayrilis. I sort of knew an Amaryilis shortened to Ammy (pronounced with a soft A).

That's good news that your DP has an in-house job. Security is a comforting thing.

Rubes, that link might as well have been in Latin for all I could understand! Will you need surgery?

Nolda · 12/05/2014 22:19

That's great news, Hons! I hope it's finally clicked.

Honsandrevels · 13/05/2014 10:59

Thanks! Yes we'll see how she gets on tonight. Fingers crossed. The book definitely helped so thanks for the recommendation Nolda. Just before she went to bed she said 'mummy I'm very proud of myself'.

Love the names Lady, Isadora is beautiful as is Christobel. Good feminist heritage! I had Emmeline on the list for dd2. I really like Persephone which gets ripped to shreds on baby name threads on here for reasons I've never understood.

Rubes Sounds like you are a medical marvel! Is it painful?

Mckayz · 13/05/2014 11:08

I love Persephone. DH said no as we aren't posh and she'd get bullied.

ShadyLadyT · 13/05/2014 11:22

Persephone is DD2's middle name so that's a firm no! That was DP's choice as it happens. The names boards on here do make me very tired. I'm too old and too stubborn to care about that extremely dubious arbiter of taste though. In fact, one of the names we have in the three we're considering (which I have been careful not to name!) gets a drubbing on the names board on practically a weekly basis.

ShadyLadyT · 13/05/2014 11:25

Actually, now I come to think of it, the other two have been slagged off as well.

But that's more or less a vote of confidence as far as I'm concerned. If everyone took on everyone else's weird hang ups and issues about naming we'd all be called Jane and John (both of which I genuinely like as names, but you know what I mean)

beans37 · 13/05/2014 11:25

Oh Lady, the name boards are so dreary. DD2's name is totally slated on here. Obviously, I love it, but most people loathe it! I really liked Elodie for DD3, but Victoria won out as we'd had it in mind for the other 2, so really had to use it!

I like all of those mentioned.

Just had an hour of tennis coaching. It was absolutely bloody brilliant! I am so rubbish, but it was fun. So nice to do something for me!

ShadyLadyT · 13/05/2014 11:42

ITennis coaching does sound bliss. I know I'd enjoy it. What a nice thing to do.

DP wants to shoehorn in one of his Granny's names. It's quite a nice name and I don't really mind (one of DD1's middle names, Alice, is after my Mum's Mum) but my Granny was amazing and this particular Granny of DP's is widely acknowledged as (and I quote) "a spiteful old woman" so I feel he's doing it for the sake of it.

Honsandrevels · 13/05/2014 12:31

That sounds great Beans. You deserve some time to yourself.

Dreary is a good word for the baby name board. I also like Honoria, Iris and Maude.

Lady Tricky re the granny name. It seems odd to use it even though she was spiteful. Then again my nanna is an awful woman in many ways, she has fallen out with most of her relatives, puts my mum down, is hideously selfish, she blanked us as primary school age children in the street because she wasn't speaking to my mum, but I have some lovely memories of her. She's just turned 90, hate keeps you strong clearly! Maybe for dp he has mixed emotions about her.

Mckayz · 13/05/2014 13:35

My name and DS1's are constantly slated as chavvy. Ds2's is boring and common and only people with no imagination use DDs as it's in the twilight books.

Stupid baby name threads.

ShadyLadyT · 13/05/2014 13:52

Your boys' names are derided as chavvy, Kayz? Unbelievable! Also I have read the Twilight books and I can't even remember a character with that name!

Yes Hons, I think that's exactly it with DP. He does have some very fond childhood memories mixed in with it all so I won't kick up a fuss if he really wants her name as a middle name. Funnily enough I have already thought of Honoria. But as I already have a Dahlia I worried it would sound like I am a crazed PG Wodehouse fan (which I am actually). Also, DP won't hear of it. Before we had DD1 we seriously considered Emerald but I don't really like it anymore. Love the stones though, they're my faves. We have had to get the names books out again to see if we can find any others we like more than the three we are choosing between, but so far we can't.
