Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I cannot imagine my kids starting school before they were 3. DD1 was 5.2 and DD2 will be 5.4. J will be 4.9. I think he will be ready though.

J slept from about 4 until 11 which is the longest stretch since Christmas Eve. He really is shit at this sleep lark. His temp is only 38.4 so huge improvement.

ValiumQueen · 24/01/2014 11:37

We are having our breakfast in peace, and I am having cold pizza as I was too tired to eat it last night. He is demolishing a rich tea biscuit.

PetiteRaleuse · 24/01/2014 11:51

DD1 could have started in January just gone but I considered her too young. They take them from the nearest Jan or September to their 3rd birthday as long as they are toilet trained. I wanted to wait until September. She'll be ready then but it's not school like in the UK as I said.

Lily311 · 24/01/2014 12:26

Here nursery is compulsory from age 3 and school is when they are 6. Nursery is like reception but no reading or writing. They concentrate on fine motor skills and improving concentration and it's all based on play. they start reading and writing at 6, they are usually fluent by Xmas. Makes sense really as their brain is more ready.

I need to choose pre nursery for O, going to see some next week.

pr poor lo.

Just had a nice lunch with my parents and brother and his gf, they are flying back to the uk tonight. I paid. £10 for the 6 of us. You gotta love Hungary sometimes.

ValiumQueen · 24/01/2014 12:36

Wow Lily that is good value. Hopefully it helps offset the horrendous price of lawyers. Can O now get free healthcare?

PetiteRaleuse · 24/01/2014 12:58

Yes that sounds similar to here Lily

Zamboni · 24/01/2014 14:34

It's interesting PR. Objectively the French system is appealing but I would also prioritise enjoying school over achieving at school. I was lucky.

lily bargain Grin

ValiumQueen · 24/01/2014 14:38

Just had to get DD2 from nursery. She is flat out on the sofa after puking in the car. Just as well I love her.

ValiumQueen · 24/01/2014 14:38

Was it her ear PR?

PetiteRaleuse · 24/01/2014 14:51

Yes vq it is the ear.

ValiumQueen · 24/01/2014 14:57

Hope the antibiotics work mega quickly x does she take them ok? J gets really excited when he sees a syringe. Quite a worry considering my profession Grin

Lily311 · 24/01/2014 15:27

No free health care just yet, I need a ni number for her and she won't get it until she has the right surname. It's quite annoying really and I'm dreading how long it will take. But getting there.

Poor dd2 vq. Brother left, parents left, it's SNOWING!!!

PetiteRaleuse · 24/01/2014 15:53

No she hates medication. Takes two of us to pin her down and syringe it in. Once she's back eating I'll hide it in her milk.

ValiumQueen · 24/01/2014 17:20

The girls were like that PR. Quite horrid for all.

Lily I hope it is soon sorted.

PetiteRaleuse · 24/01/2014 17:31

Sauteeing some shallots with garlic, about to add wine to caramelise, then turning it down and roasting a fillet of pork on it. Yummmm.

ValiumQueen · 24/01/2014 17:43

Oh PR that is rude!!!!!

PetiteRaleuse · 24/01/2014 17:44

Well I was deprived today...

PurplePidjin · 24/01/2014 17:54

Anybody got a good recipe for leftover mashed potato?

Lily311 · 24/01/2014 17:59

Potato cakes! Add flour and an egg until you can make a dough. Cut out round shapes and fry them in oil. Fattening but so yummy.

Sophiathestormfairy · 24/01/2014 18:16

I have a whole book devoted to potatoes.

It was a Christmas pressure.

Yep, potato cakes, add some left over veg.

YellowWellies · 24/01/2014 19:09

I cooked some sausages for J's tea, got them out of the oven, chopped them into perfect BLW pieces and left them on the highchair tray to cool. Came back to the kitchen with J to find the border terrier smiling and the tray bare. BLW that's 'border led weaning'. Am glad I'd left the other four sausages in a higher place!!!! Little bugger.

PetiteRaleuse · 24/01/2014 19:18

:o yw

YellowWellies · 24/01/2014 19:20

She's grown - she couldn't reach it last week I swear! Mindst they were Co-op fancy smancy bangers so maybe she was suitably motivated Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

BigPigLittlePig · 24/01/2014 20:15

Evening all.

Sorry to hear LO and Dd2 poorly, PR and VQ. May it be short lived for both. And hopefully not too many amozicillin sharts.

YW that sounds like exactly the sort of thing the cat would do. The dog would be more intent on eating the actual highchair.

It is quite striking, the differences between the education systems in different countries. My two bff are from 2ry school too. Love them both immensely, to the moon and back.

So on a Friday, mil has F from 8.30 til 1ish. F hasn't had day time naps since before Christmas, so when she restarted looking after her in the new yr, I told her that she doesn't need a morning nap anymore. That was 3 weeks ago. And every week, without fail, she has taken F out in the pushchair midmorning with the soul aim of inducing a nap, which she does. So then f won't nap after lunch, and is ridiculously tired by 4, won't eat properly and has a meltdown by bedtime. I have mentioned each week, as has dh, to not let her sleep but she won't listen. What can I do peeps? She insists that f does need a nap. She insists a number of other things too, to which I have to try to smile and nod.

Passmethecrisps · 24/01/2014 20:16

Hahahaha! Happy doggy = happy mummy, no? Grin

Fucking ears pr.

I am not sure how many threads down we were when I joined. I think I have read the first one before though.

zamboni there is another teacher I think so we could share the teaching but imagine how efficient the first-aid queue would be? And our legal advice would be second to none.

Ethos is far and away more important than results in education. Great results can be at the expense of ethos whih leads to unhappy children. You need to actually visit a place though to sense the ethos

Is j okay today vq?

Ok. So. Today DH sent me a photo of p. She was sound asleep on the rug in the sitting room. This is a girl who never sits down. Apparently she just lay down and fell asleep. She then lay in DH's arms then was moved to the cot. And slept for another 2 hours. Tonight she was miserable. Proper hard crying. No temp though. Hmm
