Urgh- took a tumble on the way to the station this morning, whilst carrying laptop. Badly scuffed new boots, torn & ruined trousers, bruised and bloodied palms and knees, and feeling like I've been beaten up all day.

And then, just cos I've obviously really pissed the Gods off, it's taken me well over 2 hours to get home, with squillions of bags, when I need to get up early.

That'll teach me to feel festive Xmas Confused Xmas Wink!

hop, tell catsbum to find a lemon to suck to ensure she maintains her perfect disdain, how rude of her. Sounds a wonderful day, I'm planning on trying to wangle one soon too.

Blimey Oi, really hope it went OK- you've got to tell us what happened at the Xmas party too!! Your DH is obviously advanced, getting the drunken argument with the boss in before he's even started... You must feel a little mortified though, what a night out...

Maybe for Xmas we should say sod presents, and just wrap up our DPs and DCs, shove them under the tree and do a secret Santa Xmas Grin

Aethelfleda · 09/12/2013 21:10

Nrg, too many things to do, not enough time to do them.
Told blithely by school sec after school today "oh just pop in tomorrow morning to see the cook (to sort out DD2's lunch issue).... Yes thanks, except I am working. So can't. How do fulltime mums do this stuff, it's bad enough me doing mornings! I think she's given the form in....

And DD1's staying up too late til we confiscate her pens writing a "play", so hasn't done her trumpet practice. But we have a sparkly deco'd tree, so that's ok...

HopAlongOnItsOnlyChristmas · 09/12/2013 21:22

Tequila, lemon and lime juice (sours) and crushed ice.

TheOnlySevenSleighbells · 09/12/2013 23:05

I don't do tequila, it doesn't agree with my head. Last time I had tequila I accidentally shagged my boss Xmas Blush

aethel I hope there wasn't a hint of guilt in there, love how she just assumed all mothers don't work Hmm

northern sounds like a spectacular fall I'd be proud of, hope you're not aching too much.

Busy few days here. We're off to M&S with a £20 voucher to buy nice food for Christmas tomorrow, not that it'll go far. I want a tin of biscuits, pate and one of those cakes with cherries and almonds on top (is that Dundee cake btw?). On Weds I'm getting my long hair chopped off and going short, then street collection Thursday.

FalalalalalalaFiggy · 10/12/2013 07:19

I cant drink tequila either in fact I hate all alcohol that taste of alcohol like rum and Malibu I stick with Wine or vodka am strictly gin these days.

I'm off 4 our quarterly team meeting in London today then having champagne afternoon tea at the capital hotel. Will be nice but means I will be home probably 8 o'clock and I wont see DS at all today tomorrow I have to get up first thing and drive to Epsom so wont see him then either Hmm I don't know how u do all your international travelling Oi

HopAlongOnItsOnlyChristmas · 10/12/2013 09:00

Last time I drank tequila I passed out in a club toilet. In a puddle of my own vomit.

Being 19 was fun. Not.

mopsytop · 10/12/2013 12:41

Yeah, tequila is dangerous stuff... I do like a good margarita though, which BTW I believe has Cointreau (triple sec) as well as tequila and lime juice...

Aethelfleda · 10/12/2013 14:01

Tequila?! Who knew.... I don't think we've actually got any of that in. We do however, have a variety of other spirits plus eight different sorts of gin thanks to hubby being a gin fan rather than any decrepit addiction, honest . It's a sign of middle age when your liquor cabinet is actually full of booze cos you never get around to drinking it any more!

Right, DS has conked so it's time to scale the mountain of clean laundry before pickup

mopsytop · 10/12/2013 16:19

aethel we have a ginvent calendar ! a different wee bottle of artisan gin everyday (30ml). We also have lots of different types of gin. They tend to get finished embarrassingly quickly though Blush

Aethelfleda · 10/12/2013 18:45

Wow mopsy, I've just googled Ginvent Calendears!!

Shock Envy

Nnnnrrrrghh....must....not.....buy.....for.....me...DH....

This evening is brought to you by DS, the bath, all the bath toys and a LOT of water on the floor Grin

mopsytop · 10/12/2013 19:19

I know aethel. Tis an inexcusable extravagance Blush But Mr. Mopsy bought it, not me, so I can partake without guilt Grin

Doing a job app and already have to state what my publication output would be for REF 2020. Ugh. I can barely get through teaching never mind start on my new research project Sad

BobaFettTheHalls · 10/12/2013 19:42

I am so glad it's half way through advent or one of those Ginvent calenders would be here (for DH).
I've got a full bottle of vodka that has been sitting in the drinks cabinet since 2009, we've chucked more alcohol down the sink than our throats (still have the bottle of champagne I was given when DS1 was born).

Last time I drank tequila, I was 14 and could still drink half a bottle of spirits without a hangover.
Arf at accidental shagging seven, wish I got more shags in before I settled down!

Northen, Xmas Grin love the sprog/OH secret santa, I'll throw in 2 DS but I'll keep DH, don't think he's needed haddock-ing since we started these threads!

NorthernChinchilla · 10/12/2013 20:05

Oh. My. Dear. Lord. Xmas Shock
Why, why, why did I not know of Ginvent calendars?! I have to say mopsy, my image of you as a poor wee overworked academic, in fingerless gloves, scribbling with your quill in candlelight has been exploded- you is a Lush, woman, a Lush!

Tequila doesn't agree with me either- the last time I had it (that I remember Blush) I was out in town as a student and bumped into all the popular girls I was in secondary school hockey team with. We were smashed in a club, and one of them decided to ask me, on the dance floor, if I was bisexual, just as the tune stopped....cue every person in the place turning to look.
No random shagging though takes buckets of wine for that

We get through a decent amount, but then we don't drink outside the house as we never go out. Only at weekends though, although I am sitting here with a Belgian beer in front of the footie Xmas Grin

Aching a fair bit now seven; all the sore bit are sore, and all the aches- shoulders, hips- are coming out from getting so jarred when I hit the floor.

Tomorrow night I make DS's birthday cake, and wrap his presents (and DP's secret Santa to prevent a box of chocolates looking like a selotape covered Eifel Tower...) and then will do us all a carbonara pasta back for our dinner on Thursday Xmas Smile

mopsytop · 10/12/2013 20:26

Ha you've outed my guilty secret Northern! I must admit that I am partial to a nice G and T (or three. Or four. Ok five Shock ) over the weekend, especially if I have that yummy fever tree elderflower tonic! Yum. I used to be big into Belgian beer but gin is my current tipple of choice!

NorthernChinchilla · 10/12/2013 21:12

Oh yes... unless you're drinking it neat, then my rule is always cheap vodka, expensive gin. Tanqueray, especially the 'ten', is marvellous, and just one good strong Hendricks is marvellous.

However, neat vodka needs to be Stollie at the very least Xmas Grin

By the way, that should be pasta bake in my post above, I am so very tired after a half four start...

FalalalalalalaFiggy · 10/12/2013 21:18

Who knew we all gin lushes Grin
I almost bought a bottle of French saffron gin at weekend until saw the £38 price tag Shock am a Bombay sapphire fan here getting a bottle for Xmas from inlaws

mopsytop · 10/12/2013 21:26

One of our favourites is sipsmiths. We like hendricks too Northern and Tanqueray Ten hop. Ha not hard to please when it comes to gin Wink

The ginvent calendar is great cos it means you can try lots of different gins without having to fork out for a while bottle on spec. Current fave is Professor Cornelius Ampleforth's Bathtub gin. Yum!

mopsytop · 10/12/2013 21:27

Oh sorry Northern you were both sipsmiths and tanqueray ten! I think you might be as lushful as myself Wink

mopsytop · 10/12/2013 21:30

And I like Bombay Sapphire figgy. I'm not an alcoholic though even though it sounds like it Blush Weirdly I can't touch vodka. Ugh. One bad experience during my college days. I was SO sick. Ugh. Never looked at it again. Was same about tequila until I tried a margarita made with 100% agave tequila and changed my mind. I'd still never drink a shot of tequila though .

jigglebum · 10/12/2013 21:59

Just checking back into the thread to wish all the babies (what babies!) on the thread happy 2nd birthdays. Freya's is tomorrow and unfortunately I am at work - which considering I am only working 1 day this week as we break up for Xmas is a tad annoying! DH is taking the day off though and is bravely taking F to see DS s nativity play at school in the afternoon. I have visions of her up there trying to join in. Luckily I get to go in peace in the evening!

Have just spent the evening wrestling her Birthday cake together - I really am not a cook/baker/decorator etc but one train cake finally finished. Freya is celebrating the last night of being one by being a pain in the arse going to bed - she is yet to go properly to sleep! She went to bed early with a temperature and calpol at 630 but now is wide awake and wanting to get out the cot.

Gin sounds a bloody good idea right now!

Aethelfleda · 10/12/2013 22:03

Hi jiggle, good to see you!

Don't waste your money on Saffron Gin, we got a bottle and it was distinctly meh. Now, I wonders if that ginvent calendar that we are SO not buying might be on reduced after Christmas???

Agree Sipsmith's and Tanqueray Ten are good uns. Have you tried William Chase Crisp Apple Gin? That's raaather lovely....

HopAlongOnItsOnlyChristmas · 11/12/2013 09:00

Jiggle I saw the train cake on FB, it looks fab! Happy Birthday to Freya!

I had a lovely g+t with a sprig of rosemary in it, in a posh bar once. Do love a standard gordons and tonic though with a fat wedge of lime. I mostly drink wine these days, although have got into the habit of drinking prosseco is I'm out with the mummies. Cause we're posh like that.

Did a fair amount of Christmas shopping, am now skint. Need to pick up an xbox game and a playmobile dinosaur and a couple of little bits for DH (socks and a CD I think) and then I am done.

Was off work yesterday and have come into a many 'URGENT - need this ASAP' type emails so looks like I better get cracking!

TheOnlySevenSleighbells · 11/12/2013 15:40

Just sharing my fab new haircut, scroll down to the bottom.

FalalalalalalaFiggy · 11/12/2013 19:06

5hr 45 minute round trip for a 5.5hr meeting = upset sciatic nerve Hmm

Never mind off to Scotland for weekend tomorrow evening to see my family friends and drink too much gin Wine

The cm sent me a pic of DS dressed up as a shepherd at his toddler group I've put it on fb for those on the group was so cute!!!!

NorthernChinchilla · 11/12/2013 21:13

Oooh, really like the picture of you in the scarf seven, looks great, and hope it's as easy to manage as you need.

Have just managed to get to the end of the year in terms of big projects- just delivered on a massive job today, and am just so delighted that we've made it and I've actually not been sick at all (bar one weekend of upset stomach)- DS's immune system must be wonderful after last year's hell!

How's F jiggle, is her temp down?

And so glad to hear we're all lushes, I'm off to pour my second to celebrate/assist in my wrapping of DS's presents for tomorrow!
