Is anyone else doing a dream feed? Because I finally get dd settled at bedtime I was reluctant but she is waking about 11 and seems hungry, I have usually being asleep about an hour and I find this wake up a killer!

Mrs81 · 25/11/2013 08:27

I used to dreamfeed (successfully) around 10-10.30pm. Def worth a shot. It meant that I got a decent block of sleep which was fab.

It stopped working for us around the 16w mark, and for now I'm just following DS's lead.

Mrs81 · 25/11/2013 08:32

And, Curly, hope your night improved Smile

6 month growth spurt you say? I'm in denial. But it would explain the extra night time feeds. I usually feed on the sofa at night so not to disturb DH but it was too cold at 4.30am so I just fed in bed!

MadameJ · 25/11/2013 08:40

Up until recently she stayed downstairs in the evening so I would feed her just before I took her up. I am keen to follow her lead but I really hate getting up just after I have gone to bed so I selfishly may give it a go tonight and see what happens!

pinkbear82 · 25/11/2013 10:41

I have just put the Moses basket away after it being in the corner of the front room, unused other than random things no one could apparently be bothered to find a home for, and a slightly chewed leg from the puppy.
Thought I would use the travel cot as a play pen, it's bloody massive in the room! Might be rethinking that, but she is currently having a play and the dogs are wondering around, and usually if one is happening the other can't, so we'll see!

Brew For all with matchsticks, I've brought shares in Nescafé to keep me going.

MrsBri · 25/11/2013 11:09

Our Moses basket is ornamental now too, but as we have to move soon it can stay where it is for now in the front room.

If Amy is going to eat late at night I normally just stay up until it's done so I don't have to wake up after an hour's sleep or less.

We've had more front to back rolls today, which I'm sure means that she's going to be a terror within a week! We shall see though.

I thought they did back to front first though? Or am I confused?

rrreow · 25/11/2013 11:39

We're currently quite consistently on 1 or 2 feeds before we've gone to bed, and then 3 feeds (but usually another wakeup with resettling without feed) during the night. WHY did I get the baby that still feeds every 2 hours solidly around the clock??

On the other hand, I went to a friend's baby shower on Saturday with Z (DS1 had a day with DH) and he was the model baby. Happy to be passed around from person to person (something I am actually very OK with, omg eating food with two hands!), major giggles, two great naps and generally he was just really happy all day. Everyone loved him [proud mummy icon] I think he really likes lots of stuff going on, it's when there's no people (i.e. just me) that he gets bored and starts crying.

At night he's in a vest, sleepsuit and I think it's a 2.5 tog sleeping bag (the in-between thickness one). Our room is currently between 19-20.5 at night.

We have half heartedly started weaning as he just keeps getting jealous of us eating! Used to be we could put him in the highchair with some toys, but now he complains until we give him some food to play with/gum. I really need to get some more bibs and a big mat for the floor so we can start this in earnest.

Well we slept better last night woke at some point after I posted last fed and fell asleep with me stroking his cheek and snuggled close then at 5 and woke on putting down fed again put him down and slept until 9 !
he has also slept twice today for reasonable amounts.

SunnyL · 26/11/2013 14:09

Its like my little pest knows when daddy is on a night shift. I had 3 days on my own over the weekend cos DH was working and she was a complete poppet. Waking up lots, taking ages to go back down, crying because of her teeth etc.

Last night DH was off so she only woke twice and was a complete charmer both times. She is going to be a daddys girl isnt she?

pinkbear82 · 26/11/2013 20:45

Daddy's girl here too sunny. All smiles and sweetness when he walks through the door.

MrsBri · 26/11/2013 21:02

Yep, daddy's girl here too! So ungrateful! :-)

pinkapples · 26/11/2013 22:24

I don't think Theiah much cares to be honest she's still full of a cold can't breathe coughing etc etc sleep is becoming hard she is waking like 2/3 times for nothing!

No sleep in the day yesterday was 40 mins all day today apparently 25 mins is ok! HmmHmm

pinkapples · 27/11/2013 19:10

Oh my god I'm glad I have a nursery on tap I was throwing up all lAst night and today so mum came over and took her in for me id have been useless otherwise

pinkbear82 · 27/11/2013 19:26

Oh no pink - hope you are feeling better. Thank goodness for helpers and childcare!

pinkbear82 · 27/11/2013 19:29

Mrs81 how is your Gran? Keep meaning to ask, and like so may things these days promptly forget!

We are going away for a few days, just the three of us.... How much room does a small child take up?! I am sure I have over packed for her, but it might be cold blah blah blah. Big suitcase for me and her, DP will have to have the lovely small pink case all to himself.... He'll love it! Wink

Hope everyone is ok.

SunnyL · 27/11/2013 21:48

My word the poos you get once they start weaning!!! Fed her carrot at half 9 this morning. By 11am most of it was out. Left her on the matt naked last night before her bath. She did a fart that sounded like a machine gun and I had to wash the matt!

Its almost worst because the gaviscon poos we had before were so inoffensive that Id been boasting to my mates how easy this nappy malarkey was. Quite franklyI am an arse!

Mrs81 · 27/11/2013 22:12

Pinkbear: she seems to be doing really well, thanks, which is brilliant. She was discharged today. There had been mutterings about either a stent op or a bypass but as they've just turfed her out, I'm guessing they are pleased with her progress. How is your gran getting on this week?

We're starting weaning at the weekend. Yikes. I'm not sure that I'm ready for the nappies.

Those who are weaning and still breast feeding, are you giving your lo any sort of vitamin supplement? A hv mentioned it in passing but I wasn't sure if I should take any notice Wink

Sunbeam18 · 28/11/2013 00:43

Sunny, that post really made me laugh!
I went to an nhs weaning workshop today and it was really good. Feel quite excited about it and bought some cute spoons on the way home! The nurse/HV running it said that advice was now to get Healthy Start vitamins (for the vit d) for babies who are exclusively bf. apparently we should have been giving it to them from about 5 weeks! First I'd heard of it, and it seemed to be news to everyone else too. Anyone giving this? We are going to hold off weaning until 6 months (Christmas Day for us!) though I do think he's ready. Someone at the group was giving her kid jars of mince and potato at 4.5 months! She got a bit of a look from the HV.

Olimoss · 28/11/2013 09:29

Hi All - getting less and less time to check in here. Sounds like we are all on the same path more or less, in the middle of or heading towards weaning and babies getting more independent.

By the sounds of it I need to be grateful that Joe is a daytime sleeper, huh?! He still wakes at 3-4am or so for a sip of milk but I think we'll start not offering him it very soon. We also leave him in his cot till 7am these days, even if he wakes up earlier - trying to set a good pattern to last through toddlerhood! He's quite happy in his cot actually, plays and sings.

Otherwise it's full steam ahead here with two teeth, eating breakfast and snacks and a scrambled egg at lunch and yoghurt and veggies at suppertime, though all in very small amounts and still mainlining milk. He seems to have gotten long all of a sudden which is great as before that I thought he was getting awfully wide! I suppose that's how they grow?

Trust all is well with everyone - J is six months old tomorrow. I can't believe it. My very good friend had a baby last week, she is only 2 ounces smaller than J was at birth but looks, to my eyes, so tiny that I can hardly believe our babies were ever that small...

Oh, finally, it's got a bloody twee name but might I recommend the star blanket thingy from Tuppence and Crumble - tuppenceandcrumble.com/shop/star_wraps - much easier to use and put on than the bloody fancy pants outdoors all in one cold weather suit wotsit we have (although I may just be cackhanded as am Aussie and crap with all this cold weather gear).

Wanted to check actually - Joe hates wearing mittens or stuff on his hands - if the rest of him is warm does it matter if his hands are not?

pinkapples · 28/11/2013 09:35

Theiah was up all night coughing last night oh my goodness was so hard listening to her Sad

May have go get one of them star things Theiah has an all in one but it's quite bulky an she doesn't seem to like it

hedgehogy · 28/11/2013 10:41

Mrs81, at our weaning session they said it's important for breastfed babies to have vitamins from 6 months (no earlier). To do with vitamin d levels if I recall correctly. I can't decide what to go for: abidec seems adequate but has a base of peanut oil and I'm not keen on the thought of that. Wellkid sounds ideal viamin and mineral wise (also contains iron) but is sugary. Decisions! There was no mention of healthy start ones at the session. There are already added vitamins in formula which is why it's only important for breastfed babies.

Weaning starts next week (DD will be six months), I'm dreading the nappies now!

Sarah2506 · 28/11/2013 10:42

Hello all,

Plenty of cold hands here. She doesn't seem to rate snow suits at all. I'd rather layer her up. Did you know you aren't meant to put them in the car in a snow suit? Google car seats safety snow suit and it brings up lots of stuff about how it's a Very Bad Idea.

Not great here. Horrible hacking cough and chest infection so have antibiotics and inhaler as well as calpol. She's not keen on any of it. Absolutely hate having to force it on her. She's starting to pick up now though. No real weaning as yet. We've had a munch of a few things and she seems interested at least. Starting to realise that baby lead weaning is going to be seriously messy! Have bought long sleeve bibs and a mat for the floor.

Have you all completely over bought on the 'baby's first Christmas' stuff?!?

Mrs81 · 28/11/2013 11:47

Thanks Hedgehogy. That's really helpful Smile

I asked hv today, she wasn't sure about current guidance and suggested I ask at pharmacy. Think I'll do my homework first though re hidden ingredients.

In other news, ds is 24w today and has finally broken the stone barrier Grin Extra night feeds and/or diff meds make a big difference!

Mrs81 · 28/11/2013 11:51

And, I hope the poorly LOs get better quickly. It's so hard when they're not well Sad

So far, we've been quite restrained about first Christmas stuff. Who knows if we'll sustain that for another month!

rrreow · 28/11/2013 12:54

I never gave DS1 any vitamins Blush I should really look into this. Maybe the pharmacy will sell an own-brand one? Even if you don't get it for free, it might be a better option than the branded ones.

I think as long as their core temperature is good, then you don't have to worry about cold hands (I never did with DS1.. god I feel so mean now, this and the vitamins). At least not in this weather. If it gets seriously cold I'd just force on some mittens.

DS2 is having a go at some yoghurt whenever I'm having breakfast, and he gets some of our dinner in the evening. None of it is going in (although it's definitely being tasted) and it is SO MESSY. Especially rice... don't do it. I've just ordered some more long sleeve bibs and a floormat too.
