sfx, if it's any help to you (or your MIL) - I've met tea and katz and neither of them have set about me with an axe (Maybe one of them is saving it up for massacre at London Zoo though).

tribpot · 13/07/2006 15:32

Network Rail strike - planned for noon 21 July - noon 22 July!

bresha · 13/07/2006 16:05

Hi every one, hope you are all doing well!
The girls are out with a friend and im all alone, for the first time in what feels like years
How are all the junie babies?
Happy birthday to any I missed
Sorry iv not posted for a wile, been really bizzy
Il try and read the posts I missed to catch up!
I really wont to come to the zoo, but not sure if I can
Its going to cost me quiet a bit with the ferry and the train and the tube and the lunch and il have to get up 5 am
But my girls would love an adventure, so im gona see if I can find a cheep coach
Its my birthday next week, every one keeps saying I have to do some thing special because it my 21st but I haven?t a clue, iv not done anything for my birthday the last 5 years
Iv booked some driving lessons, they start next week, slightly nervous, but I think il get on ok, I hope. Iv never really wonted to drive before but now with dd1 starting school in September (and it takes us a hour to walk home from there) I have to learn really
Dd2 is only having one sleep a day now, but she sleeps through now so its not so bad, less time for mn tho
She has finally started walking yay, and has started climbing up every thing, there seems to be no wear she cant get to now,
Any way il shut up and put the dinner on before the girls get back
Take care everyone

katzg · 13/07/2006 19:04

OP posts:
sfxmum · 13/07/2006 20:01

its really poo (there go my feeble socialist inclinations)
and being selfish - a full weekend with inlaws
speaking of meets we must book one for the north at some point, indoors some placekinda want to spend a weekend somewhere up there

teabelly · 13/07/2006 20:26

Oh god how inconciderate of them...I'm gonna have to write to the union, don't they know we've had this planned for months!!! Seriously tho I agree with SFX they may call it off yet - wouldn't be the first time...but Katz probably worth finding out if you'd be able to get your money back if you waited til the day, or whether you'd have to try for a refund now...I'd hate for you to loose out because you'd waited, on the other hand I'm so looking forward to this, and don't want people to cancel and then the strike itself is cancelled, oooohhhh POO!!!!!!

Bresha - bless you're a baby yourself! Oh you definitely have to do something to celebrate - you're only 21 once and 22, 23, 24...he he he! Quite understand about the Zoo - esp with possible strike action now to compound your fantastically easy journey!

My word you all seem to have great sleepers there - I'm lucky if DD has a 1/2 hour sleep during the day most days

about potty training as dd is my first child i know nothing but from what i have read
you are supposed to make them aware they are wet or soiled and get them to tell you before even thinking about potty training. we are slowly trying this and asking her if she needs changing,so i guess your mil might be on to something, still seems quite young but like she says some people never use nappies
whatever feels right for you i think

teabelly · 13/07/2006 22:45

Giddy,

When we were 'doing' DS we were told to wait for the usual signs (as SFX has said) i.e. knowing that they are wet/dirty and asking (verbally or at least comunicating) that they want to be changed. However we were also told that a baby/toddler will only really be successful when they recognise the urge to wee and therefore can hold it or let it go as necessary iykwim. Typically the age at which they might reach this is some point after about 18 mths, however some children may reach this before and others long after (DS was 2yrs 9mths before fully dry in the day). You could always try it - at your mil's (he he he) and see how she gets on, but my guess would be that she's too young just now - afterall many babies don't like being wet/dirty and cry to be changed - it's just that your DD can comunicate that now

teabelly · 13/07/2006 22:48

Oh yeah and my mum said she started us on the potty at about a year, and we were all fully trained at between 18mths to 2 years - so to my little brain that says up to a year of 'trying' - hmmmm!

BTW we waited til DS was 2yrs 8.5mths and had 2 weeks of trying lazier it's true but much better for my carpets!!!

katzg · 14/07/2006 11:58

OP posts:
sfxmum · 14/07/2006 12:03

surely they are violating our human rights
i keep checking their website in hope really looking forward meeting you all

katzg · 14/07/2006 12:07

i think it should be illegal - calling a train strike the day of a mumsnet meet-up! might start a thread on it in fact!

OP posts:
tribpot · 14/07/2006 13:19

EYM, sounds like you've timed your trains really well, you should be there before the strike starts and travelling back after it is over (and hopefully things will be back to normal).

I hadn't quite got round to booking a hotel and I think will play it by ear whilst we wait to see if the strike really goes ahead; was thinking about driving to London anyway and thus saving the hassle of getting in on the train from somewhere nearby, although frankly driving to London the day of a train strike does not appeal. Travelling anywhere is logistically hard for us anyway because dh is so unwell so needs a lot of rest time and we can't share a room because of the snoring. (CPAP machine still not working, been to the hosp again today for a different kind of mask).

tea, will you be able to get in if the trains are kaput? I'm thinking of maybe staying at Luton Airport and getting the bus in, although no doubt the traffic will be grim.

sfxmum · 14/07/2006 13:27

well if anyone gets stranded you can always get my floor

dd now sleeps 2hrs during the day on her one and only napreally want to pop out looks sunny lovely out

had this email today
We recognise that you have purchased tickets to travel by train on either Friday 21 or Saturday 22 July. Unfortunately the RMT trade union has announced a 24 hour national rail strike from noon on Friday 21 July.

We have been working closely with Network Rail on a contingency plan to deal with the effects of the strike. The revised timetable for this date is available at all Midland Mainline stations and at midlandmainline.com. Alternatively you can call National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50.

As you have a ticket booked for these dates you should travel on the closest service to the train on which you were originally reserved or you can also use tickets dated 21 July for travel the day before or after this strike, 20 or 22 July. Alternatively, if you choose not to travel you will be entitled to a full refund without charge, available from the point at which the ticket was purchased.

If you wish to be kept informed of service alterations on these dates please email [email protected], entering 'strike' as the subject line and we will update you by email should any further information become available.

We apologise for the inconvenience this causes you and would like to assure you that we are working hard to ensure we can run as many services as possible.
