megi / meglo - GREAT to hear from you, please do join us again. So lovely to hear that things have worked out well for you, glad you are having a splendid time.

Uki - all the best to you and hoping for good news soon. xxx

2Happy - not much to report, things are going reasonably well and dh has actually taken ds out a couple of times on his own, which is a great improvement (basically because everywhere is so hilly he can't walk very far with him, but at least now feels inspired to try). 4 months off before the next bf mission starts - !

Been in a meeting nearly all day, I feel like I haven't seen ds at all! Working from home is the way forward for working mums, despite the fact it's practically impossible to get anything done

Blimey - with megi and Uki back on board, who will be next - lippy, welshie, Uwila, Pink? What a fab ante- and post-natal club we are

katzg · 11/09/2006 20:13

i'll have to drag scraggy back in too!

snippet of conversation with a line manager(not mine)

  • you really should join some more commitees and come to a few more meetings, you know the management words have changed while you were away and you really should get to use them

and here am i thinking good practice a sense of responsibility for the development of your team while monitoring performance was already pretty good. turns out what i really needed was new words

yes one starting with W comes to mind

tribpot · 11/09/2006 20:52

What a load of arse, sfx. Cannot believe a manager really suggested that your vocabulary needed work! Bugger that!

sfxmum · 11/09/2006 21:07

it was not general vocabulary just 'management speak' i was preparing a team away day and he mentioned something, used a term i did not recognise although i asked mostly in jest since i could more or less see what he meant, those things always strike me as silly all the 4+1Q, blue sky, thinkimg and what not
am clearly an old fart and he is clearly an arse

tribpot · 11/09/2006 21:08

Once you're a domestic incarceration survivor you won't need to worry about vocabulary changing so much! Playschool is preschool now, but housework is still housework

sfxmum · 11/09/2006 21:23

so what do we call domestic help these days?

dh has been on cleaning and tidying frenzy as
well as taking dd out everyday on exciting activities, the poor man is really upset at the thought of not being with dd everyday

Lua · 12/09/2006 20:46

Hi Meglo!
Welcome back! is very nice to hear that thing worked out for the best for you! So where abouts in the US are you? Mountains, and skiing sounds great!

Not much new in the Lua household... DS still doesn't say any word very distinctively, but is really cute when he mumbbles songs in the right key! I try not to worry, but sometimes I do wonder.... do all of yours already make animal sounds at least? He tries but can only get Muuu to all of them.... We have an appointment with ENT this week, because he had a number of year infections. Hopefully they will check his hearing and make sure he is just lazy!

Sfx- so had your DH passed you the banana cake recipe yet?

Oh, and charlie has posted on a few other threads recently. She had changed her name, but I think is now back at using her old name. I have lurked on the latest news of her DS (and if you see this charley - hello! and lots of love!)

Uki - sorry to hear about your miscarriage , these are always difficult thing to forget. All the best!

tribpot · 12/09/2006 20:50

Lua, ds refuses to say Moo, he knows the word but always replies Mmmmmmmm. God knows why, he can say Mmm, he can say Ooo, but will NOT say Mooo!

He can say Woo-woo for woof woof, and something that sounds a bit like Am for meiow, but current favourite word is Ooooo-wa (this of course means hoover).

2Happy · 12/09/2006 20:57

Ha ha, ds is remarkably similar - half his animals are a mmmm/muuu sound but with different intonations depending on if it is a cow/sheep/horse/cat. His best by far is the duck - he doesn't say "quack" but makes the same actual duck noise as a duck makes - because CM had ducks until she moved house, so he learned to mimic their actual noise. He does bees, fish, crocodile, lion and pigs too.

tribpot · 12/09/2006 21:03

Oooh, we haven't tackled bees. Ds says 'gak-gak' for duck. Quite a problem explaining to my Swedish friends as in Swedish frogs say 'quack'. (I don't know why).

Uki · 13/09/2006 12:03

Hi again
welcome back megalo, sorry to hear you had such a rough year, but so happy it's all worked out.

Thanks Lua it has been tough, i feel like ds may be the one and only as that was my 4th m/c. So glad to have him though.

ds is definately getting vocal and seems to have his own conversations with you, even if it is babble, he means it

I have been on other threads a bit lately, but it's great to come here and see lines in between paragraphs, etc. We all must be mumsnet experts -because it's so much easier to read with spaces.

Bye for now

MrsWednesday · 13/09/2006 16:36

Blimey Megi, lovely to see you again! I'm so pleased things have worked out, you must have been through such a difficult time but it's brilliant that things are so good now.

Uki, is there any chance you could get some testing as you've had 4 now? In the UK you can get referred after 3, but I presume things are different there? I'm sorry, I didn't realise you'd had one recently, sending you much love.x

No animal noises here yet but we really don't spend much time doing stuff like that with him yet . We're off on holiday at the weekend though so I shall take some books and get cracking. He can do a great 'raaaaaaaaaaah' though

Back to work, I'm in that last-few-days-before-holiday panic mode. Aarrrgh.

sfxmum · 13/09/2006 20:50

hello
last day at work today, i spent it on a away day with my team and felt somewhat emotional saying goodbye to an orgaisation where i have worked for nearly 11yrs.

anyway its all good
dd had her mmr yesterday turning dh into a nervous wreck, so far so good, she has a 5th tooth but not where we expected this one is a pre molar

she does animal noise repertoire incluses monkey duck, mouse, she does talk a lot too

uki - i am sorry about your mc hope you are keeping well, i have had 3 myself the 3rd one at 12wks almost exactly 5yrs ago. i will be trying to conceive soon and that is always on the back of my mind.
i hope you are all ok, must go back to my wine now

meglo · 14/09/2006 09:04

hello,

sfxmum - hope it wasn't too traumatic saying goodbye at work. When I left my job to go to the States I was really upset. I keep in contact with them all though and hope to return to the same school when I come back.

I don't think I mentioned I am actually in England at the moment! - Just visiting family. I go back next Monday and I am really excited cos I get to move into a big brand new house! Would never be able to afford to have one similar over here so I am going to really make the most of it while I can. We were living in a rented apartment until the house was ready - which it is now!

My little Louis can say a few words, mum, dad, catch (his favourite thing in the world is his ball), and hot! He doesn't make any animal noises but I haven't really done that with him! However, he is still not walking! He can stand up unaided from a sitting position and can take a few steps, but he has been doing this for ages! He seems to actualy enjoy the process of falling down as he squeals with delight whenever he does so!

Lua · 14/09/2006 10:45

meglo - You are so lucky! Your LO can say mummy and stay where you live him?!

DS is the epitome of a cheeky monkey! He is already trying to run, and he is a proclimber. When I said no!, he just turns around and go on a gibberish tirade!

Scares me how much he gets away with it . My poor DD couldn't do anything without getting completely ramsacked ...

I am keeping my fingers crossed for sfx and uki! I am lucky that I only had one mc but I still get nerve wracked everytime someone tells me they are pregnant.

2Happy · 14/09/2006 17:13

How was your first day of freedom sfx?

sfxmum · 14/09/2006 20:59

hi 2happy it was very strange really, still had lots of thoughts of work still have a report to write and send, my choice to do it.

and who took my baby and replaced her with a full on toddlerlots of new behaviours i was not privy to at the start and end of a day.

i think it will take a couple of weeks to adapt to the new life

hope ou all ok

bubbaloo · 15/09/2006 21:12

Evening All,

Hope everyone is well.We only came back from our hols today,so haven't been around for the last week.A good time was had though and Ds spent every evening running around the dancefloor, laughing and clapping his hands-shame I couldn't find the night mode button on the camcorder though.

Mrs W-Hope you enoy your hols too.

Megi-So nice to hear from you.I'm really pleased everything has worked out well for you. It's always great to "see" an old face on here.I have also "chatted" with Charley on another thread recentlyand seen a few other of the "old names" whilst I've been lurking.

Uki-Sorry to hear of your mc.I can't pretend to know how you are feeling as it's not something I've been through but sending you lots of love.x

Lua-Ds also doesn't talk or make any animal noises. He does babble away quite a bit and I have heard him say Daddy a couple of times but apart from that it's just been muma and dada and the odd "cat".

Talking of cat...we've come back today only to find that one of our cats has been missing since the 12th.It's so out of character and I'm really worried about him-just wish he'd come home.Have reported him missing with the local vet,put flyers through doors and notices in the newsagents,so hopefully we'll get some good news soon.

Anyway...hope you're all well-I better go and unpack(we've been home since lunchtime!!)

bubbaloo · 16/09/2006 19:15

After 4 days Tigger has just returned home, safe and well.

sfxmum · 16/09/2006 19:49

thats cats for you bubbglad you had nice holiday/
can't wait to get away but dh just gor a new job/contract, started the day after i finished mine so i guess we will have to wait a while longer

i am going back running tomorrow morning the 15wks at work made it very hard to keep it up. got lovely new trainers and rain jacket so thats the gear sorted out lets see how i do for motivation

2Happy · 17/09/2006 10:31

Really pleased about the cat, Bubbs. One of ours bogged off for 3 weeks after ds was born , we were so relieved when he came back (though when he heard the wailing infant, I think he had second thoughts! )

tribpot · 17/09/2006 20:08

Bubb, so pleased about Tigger. Naughty cat scaring mummy that way!

sfx, I ran a half-marathon this morning, don't feel bad if you didn't manage quite so many miles.

(Ha ha - in fact after ds had been up with cold/teething at 10,11,1 and 2 I 'allowed' dh to get up with him at 7 and went back to bed for 3 hours).

sfxmum · 17/09/2006 21:03

well trib to my shame i did not have the planned runtomorrow i hope
in my defence dd is teething again with a vengeance and like you i slept very little, and because i had a lie i yesterday dh only got up at 10 today by then any resolve had abandoned me.

we did however had a lovely afternoon walking around Kew, dd was mostly chasing and waving at her shadow while saying hello hello very loudly

hope you all have a lovely week

katzg · 18/09/2006 08:30
