am i the only one who has never been aaway from dd? she has never been without dh or I and i have always settle her to sleep.
i have booked something for an evening in November but dh will stay with her

we just dont have anyone she knows well enought to stay with

btw thanks ladies family portuguese word it is

2Happy · 01/09/2006 21:26

Sadly sleep is not going much better no. dh just gone out with ds to see if the car can send him off to sleep. He's also got diarrhoea dn horrific nappy rash, which he's not normally prone to. Still, he saw some pigs today so snorted happily most of the afternoon, while playing with dh's tractor from when he was a kid that his mum gave to ds (still covered in 20 year old mud from the last time dh played with it!).
Tea - a long weekend away, how fabulous! Hope the cough improves soon too.
sfx - I don't know. I heard a man call his dd's bits her flower the other day, but I thought that was a bit bleurgh actually (given what "deflowering" means). Is it too naff to call a boy's bit his winkle?
Lummox - good luck on tuesday! Mine's a week wednesday. Still not decided about the sex thing.
Trib - well done on the compliment! Good on you! I hope the sleep improves too (and the sleep machines for dh...) As for books, another very hungry caterpillar lover, plus Farmer Ham Too (well it has a picture of a tractor in, so it must be ok, sigh), or any of the Hairy MacLary books.

2Happy · 01/09/2006 21:27

Oops, x-post. I've never been away from ds, but still bfing so can't. But sometime - like when I've finally weaned this next one - trust me, I'm bogging off for a night out and leaving dh in charge, lol! [hic]

teabelly · 01/09/2006 21:30

Lua - hi there

Used up the remaining airmiles from my last company, which they forgot to take back when they got rid of me so we went to very nice very posh hotel just outside Yarm, nr Darlington....had a four poster and very well stocked fridge, unfortunately we had no bottle opener and after 2 weeks of very little sleep, thanks dd, we didn't manage to make use of the bed either still just being able to go away in dh's mx5 and get out in 2 mins flat, not having to worry about getting change bags, food and kids organised first was great! Also stayed with some friends in Durham while up that way and ate chips on the beach in Whitby, so all in all a great weekend away thank heavens for grandchild crazy grandma!

I was thinking other languages used the same word!!

sfxmum · 01/09/2006 21:39

yes hairy maclary and zachary quack
i still bf too but morning and night but sometimes i leave before she wakes up so she missess that one and sometimes at night she only has a little don't really think she would mind.

tea - i love northumberland we spent a great week up there a few years back beautiful all that coast with castles tumbling to the sea, think we are aiming for Dorset or somerset at the mo, nearer and familiar

teabelly · 01/09/2006 21:41

Oh 2Happy, SFX hello to you too ladies I never normally catch others on line at the same time!

Gosh I love my kids but I think I'd go stir crazy if I didn't have the odd break away, but know I'm extremely lucky dmum is mad about kids and before she came back from Aus my dsis was always keen to have ds to entertain her two!

It's winkie in our house, but a friend recently revealed that it's todger in her house which at first I thought was a bit crass for a lo but now I'm thinking it has more longevity perhaps than him saying to a girl later in life do you want to see my winkie...mind you I'm sure he'll have given it many other names by the time he's asking questions like that!

teabelly · 01/09/2006 21:51

SFX we stayed on Somerset/Devon borders last September and that's very beautiful too, great beaches for lo to play on.

As for books, poor dd has to go along with ds at the mo, so for now it's anything Dr Who or dinosaur related - it's quite embarassing that ds can tell you whichever planet the varying monsters hail from, and dd squeals with delight everytime she sees a dalek and they both make stomping actions to the Dinosaur Rumpus! Other than that the little Miss collection are proving a hit - but I suspect that's because daddy is very good at doing different made up voices.

sfxmum · 01/09/2006 22:10

oh tea love those kids i harbour great hopes that dd will be a sci fi fanapart from the odd dvd here and there so far she mostly ignores it unless there are monsters which she loves
, one day she will appreciate the great writing

i am a fan of the west country too. and also the area around Stirling where dh family comes from but really only by plane no way am i driving all the way to scotland with baby

i dont really mind not ging out at night,dh hates pubs and his friends live far and like i said so far the babysitters have been absent, dh parents live far, my sisters work i dont have parents, my niece and nephew are too young for a young child iyswim but i think in a couple pf years their need for hard cash will coincide with a better age for dd to left with them

Uki · 01/09/2006 23:30

Hello Everyone-katz,lummox,bubb, trib, mrs W, east york mum, anyone i forgot

It's lovely to read all the old names, you all sound like such a close group, but i thought you might like a post from an oldie.

I haven't forgotten you all, but just feel a bit faraway, so wish it was possible to come on any meet ups, the zoo and all sounded great
Anyway my Ds is only just walking, so cute at this age arn't they.

my DS looks like a little boy now, where did the baby go????

anyway will try to pop back soon.

Uki · 01/09/2006 23:31

hi to Tea, SFX and lua too

tribpot · 02/09/2006 08:03

Uki, hello! Nice to see you again, hope all is well in the land down under.

sfx, no, I've never been away from ds either. Dh has been away for one night, I've been away for one day but back by bathtime!

And even if I wanted to .. who would have ds overnight with the threat of yet another night waking at 1:30, didn't get back to sleep til 3:30 ..... groan. At least it's the weekend.

2Happy · 02/09/2006 09:03

sfx - if you ever did come back to Northumberland, drop in for a cuppa
Trib - noooooo! Will you be able to grab a nap sometime? ds finally got to sleep last night, but is only just waking just now Can't believe it. He even slept through dh getting up for work. Of course, I had until 2 mins ago convinced myself he'd had an mmr-induced seizure overnight that I hadn't heard and was unconscious or something . When do we stop being paranoid? When they're 30?!

lummox · 02/09/2006 09:27

oh 2happy - am exactly like that, even without MMR. whenever (and it's not often) ds sleeps in for half an hour i weave elaborate disaster fantasies that completely prevent me from enjoying the time.

trib - really hope things improve. don't know if this will be any help, bu i think our very bad patch came just before ds started walking. i think developmental change can mess up sleep patterns?

hey Uki - good to hear from you.

sfx - we've gone for willy or todger for boys' and and wendy for girls' bits. what is the portugese? perhaps we could all use it! glad to hear you collegaue was alright - must have been a nightmare. and i'm sure you can get that holiday atmosphere going in kew - are you close to the gardens? oh, and finally, i think a subscription to GH is a must - also The Lady and Homes and Gardens .

hello tea [waves]. well done for getting away for a bit. i've not left ds yet - have always been home for bedtime, but if i wasn't up the duff i would have left him with my mum by now. she has very kindly offered, but i'm saving up my going away time until i can really enjoy it!

hope everyone else is well. EYM - haven't heard from you in a while. hope that everything is OK.

i think we are going to ask the sex at the scan. i'm not sure which i would prefer (obviously this is all assuming that the baby is healthy). in some ways because the babies will be close in age i think it would be good for ds to have a little brother, but on the other hand i would like to have had a child of each sex if i'm being honest (and selfish) about it. after all this i bet it won't be possible to see on the scan!

hi there spoilled mummy alert just slept till 10

uki- hi, long wave

giddy - so who are you calling fat and ugly young lady?[wag finger]
sorry your friend is leaving, although these days the internet keeps people together so much easily.
that fish idea sounds great would love to build my own house too - just a dream now i fear, besides dh and i have very different ideas about dream homes.

lummox - yes we are within walking distance of the gardens and are members, i think dd will grow up with the impression they belong to her, we often just pop in so that she can chase after the geese. its good value too, dh&I each get 6 free passes for friends and family so we are often there. Climbers and Creepers is great indoors playing too.

2happy - thanks for offer i just might its beautiful country.
i too build huge nightmare scenarios over the smallest mishapover active imagination i think. between the time i settle her at night and the time i go to bed i check on her at least 3X

trib - sorry about the awful nights, dd went through a bad patch when i went back to work, and then just before walking, i read somewhere, lime lummox said, the sleep patterns get disrupted while they practice new skills. no consolation when you can barely keep eyes open i know

hi eym and muma hope you two ok

sfxmum · 02/09/2006 13:14

lumux is not a lime like like

sfxmum · 02/09/2006 13:15

who? oh dear, best go get some fresh air

2Happy · 02/09/2006 13:22

Ok this is not right. After sleeping in until 9, ds was behaving really tired and I put him back to bed just after 11, thinking I bet he doesn;t go to sleep. He did, and 2 hours later he is still asleep, he's not even had any food since breakfast. Do you think I should wake him? He never misses food - maybe he needs the extra sleep after the MMR, but will I be able to get him to sleep tonight? Agh! Why don't these things come with a manual!!!!

lummox · 02/09/2006 13:29

again, no mmr, but we're having similar today 2happy. ds had a two hour nap this morning (an hour more than usual) then seemed so grumpy and tired that i put him back down for another nap at 1 and he's still asleep. he's never done this before.

i decided early doors that i didn't really like the idea of waking a baby up unless absolutely necessary, so have left him to it.

hope your little an wakes up in a better mood than mine was in this morning.

sfx - limelummox - quite like it.

lummox · 02/09/2006 13:30

little man - ahem

2Happy · 02/09/2006 13:32

Thanks, lummox. I never really like waking them up either - he tends to be more grumpy that way. I'm just overanxious. It's an hour and a half after lunchtime (and the potatoes I'd got ready are geting cold, lol!). Plus if I'd known how long he'd sleep for I could've got on with more painting the spare room!

2Happy · 02/09/2006 15:00

Finally woken up . He still looks knackered

sfxmum · 02/09/2006 15:56

oh 2happy guess its pointless to say don't worry, at least no temp or any other nasties could just be one of those days.

dh baking (banana bread) again bless him not sure i can match up to his house husband skills
just went out for sushi and shopping on my own, its lovely sometimes

lummox · 02/09/2006 19:33

another probably useless post 2happy, but i remember being very worried about ds after the early jabs. he wasn't himself for at least two days - whiney, clingy, etc. things that i would now call tired behaviour. he is dealing with a lot in his system after all. adults can get pretty knocked out by them as well.

sfxmum · 03/09/2006 09:22

so how is little 2happy this morning?
