Epic fail on sleep training tonight...she just fell asleep while feeding! I give up any hope of ever sleeping again (dramatic I know...please forgive me!)

SpottyTeacakes · 21/09/2013 18:55

Don't worry lazza, start again tomorrow. Poor dd is fast asleep and ds is crying Hmm

Thanks re the reflux. She said he's fine otherwise other than usual teething

WLmum · 21/09/2013 19:37

spotty I don't think reflux comes back as such as it is cured by the stomach muscles being stronger but T is still quite a sicky baby, often if she's had too much milk or water. If your pals baby is teething it might be excess saliva making him a bit sick. For me, as long as its not distressing them then its not a problem.

lazza I often share your fear - if its not one thing then its another! On the sleep training front, T almost always falls asleep on the bedtime feed as I'm usually doing reading with dd1 and need her to be quiet and still, but I still managed night time sleep training by stopping night feeds. Basically teaching her that if you wake up in your cot in the dark it's still sleep time. I shortened feeds over a few nights and so rather than feeding back to sleep I fed her a bit to make sure she wasn't hungry then cuddled/rocked to sleep. After all feeds were stopped I started reducing the cuddling and putting her down super sleepy and then sort of rolling/rocking her in the cot. Then reduced that to a quick rub. Will start the process again in a few days when I know she's over this cold -I've been feeling rough today so understand how she felt, poor bunny.

PurplePidjin · 21/09/2013 23:37

lazza R is a month older than most here, he arrived at 38+3 on 19th Nov. Naps are anywhere from 20 minutes to over an hour, today he slept 7:30-8, 10:15-11:15 and 2-2:45, yesterday was 10-11:15 and 2-2:45. He's only just settling back into it after the 8 month purgatory growth spurt. He's never been big on daytime sleep, and i don't even attempt cot naps!

He has 5 teeth now, left lateral incisor must've cut last night which is why his sleep has settled. He's less snottery too :) his front two are massive and there's a huuuuuuuuuge gap though!

PurplePidjin · 22/09/2013 00:18

Haha, after all that I've just done calpol+bum change! He's asleep again now though, after a check then 5 minutes while i got organised. Must catch some zzzzs myself I'm shattered

utopian99 · 22/09/2013 01:43

Hmm. O is one of the youngest on the thread, but i would really like him to start dropping a night feed so my fertility comes back. Currently when not I'll/teething he's up every 4 hours. I've established that I'm far too spineless for sleep training though...

utopian99 · 22/09/2013 01:44

Ha, have just realised I put my PJs on inside out when I got up to feed just now. Classy.

utopian99 · 22/09/2013 04:16

Okay I'm sick of this. He went to sleep after an hour and is now up and trying to play. He's has loads to drink, not in pain and no nappy issues, and has been awake for another hour. I've left him for 5 minutes to cry which made him really angry and now dh is with him but he won't settle because he wants my attention and it's just not sensible anymore. I can't be the only one he'll settle for, dh has always offered and wanted to help but ds makes it impossible for him and I don't see any other way apart from forcing the issue by withdrawing.

SpottyTeacakes · 22/09/2013 06:12

Sorry you're having a hard time utopian Sad

Pidj their front teeth always look massive re the gap does he have a lip tie? If not his other teeth will push them together Grin

Thanks WL have told my friend, she's such a worrier Smile

SpottyTeacakes · 22/09/2013 06:24

First tooth cut!!

itsMYNutella · 22/09/2013 06:46

Sorry - massive tired whinge!

DS still wakes at least twice a night. Last night I just couldn't sleep - I'm blaming DP entirely for this. Mostly because of his total resistance to doing any kind of wedding planning Confused so I would have liked to have talked to him but he was far too tired. The poor lamb. He is often woken up by me getting up in the night to feed DS. Awww poor him.Angry

I did sleep between feeds so about 00:45- 06:00. Poor DP slept from about 21:45 until 7 something when DS woke. The poor poor man. I feel sooooooo sorry for him. Angry

AIBU to want to smack him in the face?

SpottyTeacakes · 22/09/2013 07:07

No Nutella yanbu!

Barbeasty · 22/09/2013 08:42

No, Nutella, feel free.

DH is spared because DD woke a few times with DD. She's got a horrible cough, which we're all getting, and coughed so hard she was sick.

I woke in the night as A clambered over me to get to the other side for milk. Cheeky child. I wasn't impressed when he woke for the day at 6. I'm still so tired and drained, going straight from sickness to bad cold.

itsMYNutella · 22/09/2013 09:00

Thanks ladies Grin I feel much better after a big bowl of tasty porridge though.

I think I'm actually a little depressed though. The weather has changed and its much colder, greyer and generally bleurgh. It reminds me of last winter (which was never ending in its epic shiteness) and if I'm honest another winter fills me with absolute dread. It is making me so unhappy and I'm taking that out on DP so I can't really smack him in the face when I'm actually the problem.

Hmm Better smack myself in the face Confused

itsMYNutella · 22/09/2013 09:02

beasty so sorry your poorly! You probably have the misfortune of the cold after being weakened by the vomiting thing you had. Sending ThanksBiscuitBrew. And big hugs!!
Cheeky baby antics made me Grin

Hi again all. Failing miserably at keeping up with you but still trying and making a more concerted effort! Xx

2blessed · 22/09/2013 09:18

Hmm thanks for that... Confused

Yay for the first tooth spotty

I understand about the weather change nutella. Its supposed to be in the early 20's until tuesday Smile.

This is such bad timing beasty, I'm right that your getting ready to fly imminently?

I think you're doing the right thing utopian, it will be hard but everyone will benefit.

I had a near uninterrupted sleep last night. R was up a few times but DP sorted him. No overtime for him this weekend so he had the energy, still in bed now though.

lazzaroo · 22/09/2013 09:41

Thanks pidj, I think baby lazza is one of the youngest (30/12). Naps seem similar as we usually start the day around 5-5.30am too. Last night was actually a good night for us, woke and fed at 2am then straight back to sleep until getting up at 5.15.

I'm already stressing out about the 'where will you be for Christmas & birthday' conversations.

beasty, it's hard not to take stresses out on those closest to us. I do it too.

I know how you feel utopian, conversations in our house in the middle of the night often go..me:"baby lazza is awake again", dp:"no point me going, she'll just scream until you get up" Confused

WLmum · 22/09/2013 10:27

Hi honey

nutella I've had sleep envy rage many times and wanted to smother DH!

utopian dd1&2 both used to go nuts if DH tried to settle them until after I did sleep training. I totally understand how awful it can be when lo gets furious/stressed but I promise its short lived. I only did it with my 3 when I felt I was approaching breaking point. Only you will know when/if its right for you and your family but we're all here to offer a support if you do or if you don't!

lazzaroo · 22/09/2013 10:32

Quick question to anyone still bf.....are you giving vitamin supplements?

SpottyTeacakes · 22/09/2013 10:35

No lazza. I figured if they were that essential then they'd be on prescription Grin apparently all children up to five should have them.

Utopian agree with WL

Barbeasty · 22/09/2013 10:36

Not me flying (unfortunately!)

I just need to watch it, last time I went back to work I got pneumonia and I'd rather not go there again....

It's not just the climbing over me, he does his best to unclip my pyjama top too! DD finds it all very amusing.

itsMYNutella · 22/09/2013 10:42

*beasty that is funny! DS has tried to feed through tshirt/ bra / pyjama too and he makes this rather cute little "ugh ugh" noise while staring at my booby that gets more urgent if I don't get a boobie out. Grin

2blessed this week it's been around 10 degrees, grey and just generally crap. Thursday and Friday were much milder but next month everyone will start talking about winter tyres too Sad (and they stay on until almost April!)

Feeling a bit better. Had the pret choc bar I was saving Smile with a nice coffee DP made me.

WLmum · 22/09/2013 11:14

Clever little chap beasty. T gets v excited at the sight of my boobs if I'm getting dry or dressed and makes a very painful grab for the nips!
Try to get some rest so you don't end up getting worse. I'm trying hard to follow my own advice!

lazza I try to give all 3 of mine vitamins -when I remember-- but T spits them out quite a lot.
