2blessed can DH take him to the HV or GP? Maybe hearing it directly from a health professional might help him? At the very least they can suggest sensible healthy eating....

A bear walks a bit, and is definitely trying to walk properly. Eek. That and the climbing, can't afford to take our eyes off him.

WLmum · 03/09/2013 19:58

Sorry to hear things are tough 2blessed. Some babies do slow their weight down as they get on the move. Do you think he is getting enough milk and solids?
Does he seem happy and settled? You can bump up his calories to an extent by adding double cream to food but I would only do that if I was really worried. I'd go by how he is in himself.

nutella T did hands and feet on the floor, bum in the air for a bit before standing. She's another one you can't take your eye off - climbing on stuff and putting all manner of unsuitable in her mouth.

Really disappointed with the mei tei and am going to return it Sad. It's just not at all comfy and doesn't feel like it supports T well enough. I've had the straps as tight as possible but its no good. Maybe I need to try something more structured. I'll have to use our old mothcare carrier for Saturdays planned walk in the woods but that's not great either. Hmmm.

WLmum · 03/09/2013 20:02

Someone on here had an ergo - utopian maybe? Do you rate it? Does lo still feel heavy? How is it for your back? Muchos gracias!

utopian99 · 03/09/2013 20:21

WL we don't have an ergo but do have a connecta which I think is much the same. Weight wise I'd say it's as comfy as my wovens, O is v happy in it, and dh likes it too - let my friend have a go who immediately went out and bought one as she said it was way comfier than theirs (although that the was a high Street carrier.)

You live near ish to Woking I think? I could lend to you for a try before you buy?

itsMYNutella · 03/09/2013 20:22

WL we have an ergo (and a moby and a Calin blue wrap) I like the wraps because they are cosy and snugly. Although my CB wrap is thin cotton and takes a bit more work to get it cosy. DP likes the ergo and finds it quiet comfortable although we haven't done any really long walks in it.

beasty des is fortunately only climbing me or DP at the moment.

wl DS puts everything in his mouth.... He loves shoes Envy> sick face... especially daddy's smelly shoes and flip flops facepalm and laces... He loves to chew laces! Strange baby....

MamaTo3Boys · 03/09/2013 20:24

Aww all you LOs sound like heaps of fun with the pulling themselves up trying to crawl etc. Oliver's still not doing any of that :( he's making progress though. He can sit unaided for quite a while now and stand if you hold him. He keeps his legs perfectly straight though and will not bend them, and he stands on his toes and again, won't move his feet. But he's getting there, slowly Smile

Last time I had him weighed was a few weeks ago just as he was about to turn 8 months and he weighed 20lb 3 Shock he's a big boy! Haha but then all my boys have been pretty big.

MamaTo3Boys · 03/09/2013 20:26

2blessed, sorry to hear things arent good :( I 2nd bar beastly, get DH to take him the health visitor and hear it from the horses mouth so to speak x

MamaTo3Boys · 03/09/2013 20:27

*barbeasty, sorry, autocorrect on my phone Confused x

utopian99 · 03/09/2013 20:29

nutella sounds very much like the precursor to O's walking. He can now cruise from thing to thing until he runs out of hand holds when he shouts until I come to help him. Hmm

2blessed sorry to hear about bad times; thinking of you..

pidj when I tried it because the pushy evil midwife said wwe should it was miserable and I gave up after three days. R must be ready and just needed a bit of encouragement?

Glad you had a good holiday lazza!

utopian99 · 03/09/2013 20:31

We have another who likes to chew shoes. SO not right. And he likes to hold his hands out towards dogs, any dogs, to be licked. Urgh..

Stacks · 03/09/2013 20:45

2blessed sorry hour DH is giving you a hard time. I know a mum at a local bf group having the same issue. I don't really know what to suggest for either of you. It's a very specific and personal problem, dealing with ones DH. Getting him to talk to a HV or dr himself is a good idea. Thickening milk with rusk or baby rice really won't help (I don't think) as milk is the most nutrition rich thing to eat, if you fill them up with useless bulk you just get less milk in. I hope you get something sorted ((hugs)).

Pidg, T was 'easy' to do CC with to, mostly. Worst on the 3rd day for some reason. I've also stopped going it for daytime naps as it just didn't seem worth it. Yesterday we had 40m of crying for a 40m nap :(

Mama, T isn't crawling or moving independently at all. I'm just trying to relax about it, he'll get there in his own time. He's been pulling himself to standing for a month or so though, because that's how I used to get him up after a nappy change - hold his hands and pull. After a while he started doing the pulling.

SpottyTeacakes · 03/09/2013 20:51

3boys dd's physio said they go up onto their toes to create more tension. It's just because they have low muscle tone. Dd still does it now when she's tired.

I'm so tired. Dp's alarm didn't go off this morning and our 5:30 waking dc didn't wake until 6. I was out the door at 6:10 and didn't eat anything until 2:30 Sad stupid work.

WLmum · 03/09/2013 21:00

Yep we've got a shoe chewer here - so gross. The Velcro straps on dd1&2s sandals are particularly tasty.

utopian thank you that's really kind of you but I think I'm just going to go for it as I really something for the weekend.

MamaTo3Boys · 03/09/2013 21:00

My HV kept mentioning physio for Ollie Confused he's only been sitting and standing for the last week. He still doesn't pull himself up though or sit himself up from lying down etc. he only does it if I put him like that.

I've been standing him up in his cot in the morning and getting him to hold onto the side, or standing him up against the sofa to try and encourage him to do it himself.

SpottyTeacakes · 03/09/2013 21:07

The physio won't do much until they're walking ime. The average age for walking is now 18 months and crawling is later too. They're blaming it all on the 'back to sleep' campaign.

WLmum · 03/09/2013 21:21

3boys my big 2 were doing nothing at this age. Just sitting but no attempts at moving or standing. I can't remember if I mentioned it to anyone but certainly no interventions were suggested. They crawled about 11 months (dd1 commando) then walked about 14 months. They don't have any problems at all. It's hard but try not to worry.

MamaTo3Boys · 03/09/2013 21:43

I think it's possibly his vision thats slowing him down a bit. He can't see straight so maybe its putting him off trying to balance or something. His left eye turns in so he always looks like he's cross eyed bless him. We're back at the opthamologist in October though so hopefully they'll be able to help x

WLmum · 03/09/2013 21:50

The connecta looks more like the mei tei. Found a site that seems to have cut price ergos but I think it might be a bit dodgy.

jackandjilly · 03/09/2013 21:53

J loves a good old shoe chew too, dd's crocs are his fave!Grin

Thanks WL and stacks, work was fine all in all. J woke with a cold so I was pretty worried about leaving him but he was fine. He was so excited to see me and teary too. Off to bed now as I'm totally knackered and tomorrow is another busy day.

Sorry to hear of your troubles blessed. Fx for everything to turn out good.

IsThatTrue · 03/09/2013 22:26

Haha, shoe licks are a favourite in our house and as he also licks the floor I don't bother stopping him Grin

Bad bad sleep still. :(

Sorry to hear of problems 2blessed I hope things work out for you.

PurplePidjin · 03/09/2013 22:27

Be very very careful, there are lots of fake Ergos. If in doubt, go for Manduca, Beco, Boba, Connecta or Rose and Rebellion or post on the Slings And Things - FSOT fb group :)

Have you got a Waitrose nearby?

WLmum · 03/09/2013 22:50

Great minds pidj! That's exactly what I've done, waitrose is at the end of my road! Collect tomorrow. I'm stressing about the £100 I've just spent but I really need to be able to carry her to be able to do stuff with the biggies, plus she (and I) love being up close. Best get the lovely moby on eBay.

WLmum · 03/09/2013 22:54

Got the bundle of joy one though as I like the sleeping hood and storage pocket. The storage pouch on the ring sling is so so useful.

ddas · 03/09/2013 22:59

We have an ergo & love it but haven't tried it on my back with dd.

We got on sale from a site recommended by a sling meet- think was natural nursery. Will see if can find out.

Dh tried to carry ds (age 2 but probably size age 3) on his back with it but he point blank refused and only wanted to be carried on dh shoulders.
spotty your dd looked so comfy in the r&r- I hope we can persuade ds to try a back carry.
