Hi all Smile

Oliver's been a PITA today, wouldn't have an afternoon nap, constantly hungry, grumpy, frustrated and wouldn't let me put him down :(

Also, how much milk do you give your LOs? Ollie has about 18oz but is really fussy with his meals. Sometimes he'll eat the full lot and want more afterwards and sometimes he just refuses to eat at all Confused I thought maybe i should give him more or less milk? But not sure which with him being so up and down with the amount he eats

WillYouDoTheFandango · 02/09/2013 18:01

I'd give him more Mama if he's not eating much. 18oz is the minimum at this age.

Hole your day has gone well Spotty

WillYouDoTheFandango · 02/09/2013 18:01

Oh and you just described J for the last week Mama. He has mostly been hanging from my hair for the last 3 days.

MamaTo3Boys · 02/09/2013 18:09

They're so stressful sometimes aren't they Confused he was grumpy yesterday too. I'm wondering if its teething again.

I didnt realise 18oz was the minimum. It's just been the way his routine panned out. He has about 5oz in the morning with breakfast, another 5 (ish) oz mid afternoon when he normally wakes up from his nap and then a full 9oz before bed x

PurplePidjin · 02/09/2013 18:36

Is anyone else still bf? I figure I've finally got to the quick and easy stage so why stop, but i think it's more common than not to switch by now...

If R doesn't eat, i give him pureed fruit/yoghurt and easy finger food. It's usually teeth.

Stacks · 02/09/2013 18:40

We're still bf. I thought about giving T some formula the other day, but he's never had a bottle either so I'd be doing it just for the sake of it really, and then not sure he's take it. He doesn't feed much through the day really, just when I'm putting him down for a nap/bed. I keep meaning to feed him more in the day but he doesn't ask for it so I forget.

Stacks · 02/09/2013 18:44

Oh, and he still eats hardly anything at mealtimes. We're just BLW as he's not keen on being fed. He'll take a few spoonfuls of a pouch or soup or whatever, then refuse point blank to have more. He'll eat puréed fruit from the spoon though, which we use to give him his medicine.
That said he's currently enjoying gnawing on corn on the cob. It's just 90% of what I feed him seems to end up on the floor at least once. I figure if he was hungry he'd find a way to let me know.

Barbeasty · 02/09/2013 19:10

I'm still breastfeeding on demand, and it's completely random how much A eats.

Today has been very much a milk not food day. But now he has a temperature, so I'm not surprised. I'm clinging to the gallons of dribble and desperate chewing, and resolutely ignoring the single spot on his back. It will be teeth and not anything infectious!

Suddenly he's pulling up and standing all the time. I had to put him in his cot and leave him wailing while I got up this morning. He was just so determined to stand or climb.

SpottyTeacakes · 02/09/2013 19:33

I'm still bf on demand but its generally 6,10,2,6 with the odd one thrown in for good measure.

Ds was really happy today apparently. I've only been home 15 minutes. It went fine but I start at 6:45 tomorrow Shock

jackandjilly · 02/09/2013 19:38

I'm roughly the same spotty, 4 times a day morning/ breakfast, mid morning, mid afternoon then bed time. I start back at work tomorrow so we will see how that goes.

Glad today went well with the new job.

Hi mamaGrin

Sorry for the lack of personal messages!

PurplePidjin · 02/09/2013 20:13

4-6 times here too. He can be given a snack and drink instead but until his sleep improves I'm not going to drop one!

He dozed off on the boob at 6:45 so i put him down - normally I'd put him back on till he was fully asleep. Left it 5 minutes, went in laid him down and rubbed his back. No dice. Left for 10 minutes. Same routine. Nearly but not quite. Left for 15 minutes. Same routine. 2 minutes of back rubbing.

He's still asleep!

WLmum · 02/09/2013 20:15

I'm still bfing, when at home it's about 4 times a day but she sometimes doesn't really want any during the day. Morning and evening are always good feeds.

My mei tei arrived today, its lovely but she still feels very heavy in it and I'm not sure how my back will hold up. T absolutely loved it though, found the whole thing hilarious.

When I got home from work she didn't cry but was just really excited. It was lovely.

spotty glad your first day went well.

SpottyTeacakes · 02/09/2013 20:21

Jack ds was fine without a feed but my longest day will be seven hours.

jackandjilly · 02/09/2013 20:42

9.5 hours tomorrow, same Wednesday and 7.5 Thursday, please tell me it will all be fineGrin

I will have to surgically remove him on Friday GrinGrinGrin

utopian99 · 02/09/2013 21:25

We're still bf on demand but offerring food first, so demand is rather less. Morning and evening the biggies. We don't do cc and still feed to sleep as once asleep I can just dump him unceremoniously in the cot and he just rolls over and stays asleep.

Recently he's been choosing to stop before sleep and then fall asleep naturally so long as I stroke his back in the cot, so hoping we can avoid cc. When not teething he wakes at 4 hourly intervals for brief milk, if he wakes at less than that I just rock him so I think he's starting to not wake up unless actually thirsty now.

Having said which, two teeth broke the gum last night - he didn't properly settle from 3.30 to 5.30!

WLmum · 02/09/2013 21:29

Try not to worry jack I worried about how T would cope away from the boobs but she just eats more at meal times!

MaMaPo · 02/09/2013 21:36

I'm still bfing but had - having? - a serious wobble about it. I posted in sleep about it - any advice welcome! Thread is here - www.mumsnet.com/Talk/sleep/1841547-9mo-started-using-me-as-a-dummy-What-do-I-do

Eating solids is still rubbish. A couple of mouthfuls of porridge, 1 banana, half a plum, couple tablespoons plain yoghurt and a couple of rice cakes. That's it for the whole day.

2blessed · 02/09/2013 21:47

Hi All

Glad today went well spotty.

Sorry to read about these non sleeping lo's. R is consistently inconsistent with his sleep. Last night he slept through for first time in ages, usually he wakes up 2/3 times. I go back to work next month so have to start trying to get a regular patter going.

We're still bfing on demand here and R has 3 meals. Thinking about introducing formula as I can't express enough for when I'mnot around. Guess it signals the gradual end of bfing which saddens me but has to happen one day.

R has 2 teeth coming through at the top but not at the front - random. He's going to look like a mini dracula Smile

Spreading sleepy dust over the thread....

FriendofDorothy · 02/09/2013 21:58

I am still breastfeeding on demand, but he is eating quite a bit of food now so the demand is decreasing.

The Little Mister fell out of my bed this morning - I woke up when he thumped onto the floor! Fortunately we have a low bed and he seemed absolutely fine!

WLmum · 02/09/2013 22:08

Ooh mama that's tough. All 3 of mine would have used me as a human dummy forever more but when I'd had enough it was a case of just say no! I'd feed until I thought she'd finished and then detach and rock to sleep. They didn't like it to start with but got used to it quickly and that was the start of better nights and naps. I reduced the length of each night 'feed' until I stopped offering at all and just a quick cuddle sufficed and then a pat then nothing.

IsThatTrue · 02/09/2013 22:12

Ds's dive out of the highchair was quite a shock FoD I'm not sure why how he does these things. But he has only got a graced cheek to show for it, and he was trying to do it again at lunch. No sense no feeling!

We're still bfing on demand. He still feeds 6/7am, then before and after nap time, after lunch, before and after nap time, after dinner and bedtime. Then 2/3 times in the night. He has 3 meals a day but only 1/2 a GU ramekin if porridge/yoghurt. Finger food he eats some but about half is floor bound.

ISpyPlumPie · 02/09/2013 23:46

Still bf on demand here too. Quite variable how much in the day - sometimes it can be so little I think he's about to self wean, but then there are days when he'll still have a big old feed. His preference appears to be for feeding after bedtime though. Definitely think we've got a little bit of reverse cycling going on.

Also still got a very good appetite for solid food too.

utopian99 · 03/09/2013 03:14

Rereading my previous post he did a normal 4 hour stint, quick milk asleep again, then awake half an hour later and would NOT settle for cuddles/rocking. Have given in and given more boob. Am hoping this is okay and we can get back to normal once teeth are more fully through.. Please?

utopian99 · 03/09/2013 05:57

And now he's just done the poo of his life. (I knew it would happen, he'd not been for days but still...) This is not the best night! Since 2am I've had 2 hours sleep.

Why don't mn have an emoticon for bawling your eyes out?

ddas · 03/09/2013 07:29

We're still doing our mixed bf/formula top ups.

Bf's coincide with waking up, naps & bedtime as it's the easiest way to settle her.
Think if you're still bf at this age less likely to stop now?

2blessed having to introduce some formula at this age doesn't have to mean the end of bf as your supply will readjust. We've always had to mix feed and now at work as I can't express enough has formula the 3 days I'm at work during day and although supply has gone down she's still very keen to bf when I am home. Supply has improved since i've been trying to make sure to express once at work and in evening even if it's just a quick 5 mins.
