Hi ginger Wink

I am sensing a name change sometime soon too. I am a bit worried certain RL folk have sussed me out. Hmm

I am not sure what to make of this bike stuff. I spoke to an expert who said 8 months. Everything I have read says 6 months. I will do some more reading...

I feel awful today. Full of head cold horridness that has got worse as the day goes on. Ick. Assuming I am better tomorrow we are leaving M with my mum overnight to go to a friend's surprise birthday party. I am starting to wibble about leaving her.

I also had a bit of a panic earlier about leaving her in childcare if I get my job. And a bit of an internal sob in tescos after seeing a newborn in a carseat the same as M's old one with her blanket. I don't know what is wrong with me today. Sad

GingerBeerAndTinnedPeaches · 06/09/2013 18:26

Childcare will be fine, and I say that as someone whose LO has been hysterical to the point of fainting but today did 5 calm minutes out of 90 Hmm She is an extreme example but still within the norms.

As for cycling. It is extremely dangerous for small children and especially babies under a year to be shaken even slightly. Have you ever danced with T in your arms and at some point her head has been jerked back and she hasn't controlled it? As long as that happens she can't cope with cycling on bumpy roads. Here the recommendation is 12-18 months dependant on child.

Oh, please don't call me ginger - I'm a crap dancer :)

Misthunk that name change :o

Pikz · 06/09/2013 18:45

I love the name change have missed you x

I feel absolutely Shiite today.

GTbaby · 06/09/2013 18:46

Oh my fucking goodness.
fucking husband took lo to get hair cut. Finally after 6weeks of me nagging. It's awful. It's such a bad hair cut. Looks awful. I've already cried several times.

I want to get it cut properly. But that will mean it being even shorterSad

It may be a silly thing to be upset about I know. But I'm having an emotional day.

GingerBeerAndTinnedPeaches · 06/09/2013 18:54

GT baby hair grows very fast, especially after being cut, for some weird reason. You won't notice in a week or two.

Can you call me peaches or Enid or just plain PR? Fanx.

PurplePidjin · 06/09/2013 19:15

Det I'm ok with other people pushing the buggy, but get panicky if they go off unexpectedly - eg today with my mum in Boots Blush
I also went to Sainsburys and bought shit... Got a gorgeous pink dinosaur tee shirt for him in Asda though, that'll confuse people nicely :o

Welcome back, PR how are things?

My news is still all about shit sleep so will keep trap shut.

Passmethecrisps · 06/09/2013 19:27

Welcome back.

GingerBeerAndTinnedPeaches · 06/09/2013 19:28

Now, I actually like it when someone else takes care of my DC. If I trust them. And I generally choose to trust them because what can happen?

I never got to be PFB with DD1 as I was so ill for the first 4 months, so maybe this has helped me with the whole letting them go thing. But, when someone else is looking after them, what can happen? At the nursery the worst that can happen is that they freak out and cry, but there will be no actual harm done. And at 10 months that is all that really matters iyswim.

Erm, I will update in a day or two :)

GingerBeerAndTinnedPeaches · 06/09/2013 19:29

Things are. Just are.

YellowWellies · 06/09/2013 19:37

Woop PR!

Been to docs again for ABs for his fecking cough. Doc announces it could be cystic fibrosis given its been lingering since July (despite two previous docs trips of little use) I suggest given the whole family has had it at some point its more likely a bug or virus. Confused Didn't realise 15% of CF cases aren't detected by the heel prick Shock. Got ABs Smile .

Seriously from someone who cycled rather than drove for over a decade in the most bike mad city in the UK (Oxford) cycling in a back of bike baby seat is 12 months minimum due to the risk of neck injury and shaken baby syndrome. Baby bike seats bounce around like fuck as they're over the back wheel. Stick them in a tag along trailer from 6 months if you must though beware shit drivers! The lack of crash helmets on the market isn't because someone's missing a good business idea but because of the 12 month min age advice. And going out in a helmet that doesn't fit would risk a baby fatality in any accident even just a bump or a slide. As someone who's Mum died in a bike crash at under 20 mph - her well fitting helmet flew off with the force of impact - please don't take a risk just for the sake of waiting a few months. Cyclists are much more vulnerable than car passengers. Sad

fruitpastilles · 06/09/2013 19:45

Love the name change peaches you have been missed!

GingerBeerAndTinnedPeaches · 06/09/2013 19:52

I agree with you yw and so sorry about your DM, that is so sad. I am one of those shit drivers - honestly - I am terrified every single time I take the wheel that I will hit a cyclist- we have so many here (ie teams, practising in your early morning fog, taking up the whole road). It is the reason why I avoid driving as much as possible.

And, erm, I'd get a second opinion on that CF diagnosis Hmm

YellowWellies · 06/09/2013 20:03

She mentioned CF and pertussis - as despite having the WC jag it can present as a long term cough without the whoop. She was a reverse doctor - normally you go in fearing the worst and they slap sense into you but I went in pretty casual just wanting ABs and came out Shock ! Am sure it isn't CF but still.

Sorry for being even more ranty than normal but I'm a bit of a bike safe Nazi but it is, I hope for obvious reasons, Blush something I care about deeply. I don't understand why folks spend a fortune on the safest car seat for travelling inside a steel box with lots of safety features but stick babies on bikes far too young before a helmet can be safely fitted - with no steel cage and no impact protection and on a mode of transport much more likely to be hit. Why?! Usually its because generally Dad impatiently wants everyone to join his cycling hobby and a bizarre (male) logic that accidents don't happen when folks are cycling for fun... Envy Hmm Confused If you wouldn't take the risk in a cheap car seat don't take a risk on a bike.

YellowWellies · 06/09/2013 20:06

Can anyone tell its been a long week and I need wine!

Also any recommendations for self catering accommodation in the lake district. DH has found a lovely quirky cottage with wood burner, great views and wood fired outdoor hot tub but the owner wants £300 for 2 nights off season I'm Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock at that!

GingerBeerAndTinnedPeaches · 06/09/2013 20:19

Would South Lakes by the sea be OK? I know of a lovely SC place and it has good views but no hot tub (that I know of) but won't cost that especially if you go vua moi. It's slightly in Lancashire but right on the coast with lovely walks and the Lakes are very drivable--

applepieinthesky · 06/09/2013 20:30

yw have you looked on owners direct or holidaylettings.co.uk? That's where I usually find holiday lets. You can sort by price and all other kinds of criteria. £300 for two nights is a lot of £££££££ Shock I found a beautiful cottage on owners direct last year when we went down to Devon. We paid around £380 for a week. It was rated 5 star by Visit England and was absolutely perfect, I couldn't fault it.

Rethinking our London plans. Not sure whether to go to Belgium instead to see BIL and his family. C hasn't met any of DP's family yet and I feel a bit guilty about it. If we do Belgium though I would need to book more time off work and don't know if it's possible that week as someone else is already off. Aaaaaargh why is nothing ever straight forward?

GingerBeerAndTinnedPeaches · 06/09/2013 20:32

Could it just be a lingering cough? DD1 coughed every night for a solid 8 months. I that tiem she had plenty of illnesses but nothing which would explain the cough. We just figure it's humidity or lack of which bother her. The paed has never mentioned anything other than possible development of asthma.

My mum has coughed all her life, literally. No reason. Don't worry.

applepieinthesky · 06/09/2013 20:33

Nice to see you back PR. I'm debating a name change too. I give out far too much personal info, if someone I know read all my posts they could easily identify me.

GingerBeerAndTinnedPeaches · 06/09/2013 20:44

GingerBeerAndTinnedPeaches · 06/09/2013 22:23

Sounds perfect soph

fruit we're still waiting for teeth 3+ almost 5 months after teeth 1&2. My mum used to tell me that she thought teething was a myth. HA. In June when I went to see her she thought LO was fussy due to teething of 3&4. We're STILL waiting for the same fucking teeth. And still no sign of the buggers. Her bottom front teeth are fully grown, but the top gums have been swollen for months. Calpol is indeed fricking wonderful.

Kyz · 06/09/2013 22:26

Evening all, sorry I'm late!

Glad to hear c is alot better apple :) sounds like a nice trip you have planned for his birthday! I haven't really planned anything yet, suppose I probably should.

Lots of talk of bike seats - I hadn't even considered a bike seat for e, I am not safe enough on a bike without him to wibble me about the place!

Sounds good that you went evil well done for putting your opinion across :)

pikz I can totally sympathise, e has bashed his head at least 5 times today, that with the teething, food refusal and clingy ness has meant a difficult bloody day

Can sympathise with you too then chasing and brockle re the above!

Not sad at all det whilst baby free time is nice I feel I've lost a limb and can't wait to have him back.

Have sooo missed you pr!!!

Hope you're ok stunt and vq

Hope you're better tomorrow mm1

Sounds like a great day sophia

fruitpastilles · 06/09/2013 22:29

We don't even have 1 yet! I think she will get 1 very soon though, it looks like maybe even 2 together, but then I have been thinking that for weeks.

BigPigLittlePig · 06/09/2013 22:29

Evening.

YW we're waiting for a bike seat that goes on the front of an adult bike, between the adult seat and handlebars. They recommend 9+ months. Shall have to see what F makes of it - we're lucky in that where we live there are lots of vair quiet country roads (also mercifully pothole/bump free by some miracle). I can see why it's a subject close to your heart though.

PR nice to have you back dude. Knew you couldn't last forever!

Have been on-call today. Too tired to do much else so am off to bed now. ((hugs)) to all who need/want them. Have to be in work for 8 o fucking clock tomorrow morning. WIll only see F for 30 minutes a day until Monday Sad Sad. Going to go and sniff her en route to my bed.
