New thread for us ladies. :-)

Why isn't my baby playing by the rules?! :-(

HungryHorace · 28/08/2013 20:45

Oh, and we've bought some hungry baby milk for the night feed to see if that gives us longer.

Mutley77 · 28/08/2013 21:15

Hungryhorace I know it is draining when they don't sleep but honestly each baby is different. None of my kids have played by the rules; dd1 slept from 7 to 7 pretty much every night from age 9 weeks. Ds was more typical and dd2 has only just stopped waking 3 hourly at 11 weeks.
Your dc is doing a long stretch which is great and over time the stretch will move or become 2 stretches with just one night feed at 12 or 1.
Fingers crossed the hungry baby milk will help it along, keep us posted.

pinkapples · 28/08/2013 21:44

Mutley is right every baby is different but hopefully the hungry baby formula will do the trick and yes, if your getting one stretch that's great there still only little at the end of the day (although they grow so quick, put Theiah's hospital tag round her leg to measure today and she's got so big)

curlyclaz13 · 28/08/2013 21:47

HH, you are not the only one with a baby with a faulty sleep function, Oscar wakes every two hours, I occasionally get three hours but that is from nine when I am still awake !
I have only just started to get him to sleep in the day and since Saturday we have tried to get a routine at night and he has gone down for nine, I am going to try to bring that forward if I can. Any tips for bringing bed time earlier ?
He has started poking his arms through the bars of the crib and due to not having a sleeping bag on last night he got his leg stuck at 7 am and was screaming bless him, sleeping bags all clean for tonight so hopefully no repeat but if he gets stuck again I think he will have to go in to his cot bed Sad

pinkapples · 29/08/2013 05:06

No tips for bringing forward we just did the same routine earlier but I think we are suffering a bit since she started going from 8pm she's woke at 1 and 5 for the last 3 nights - not happy

May move her into her cot where she will have more space - opinions please? (In our room still)

pinkbear82 · 29/08/2013 05:38

Dd is still feeding every 2 hours during the day.... I am trying to get it longer to 3 at least but that last hour she will grumble constantly unless she is asleep. Nights every 3 hours. Very occasionally she'll go longer at night, but certainly that isn't the norm!

She's 12 weeks today and bf. she has only ever spent maximum of 15 mins feeding and is still suffering with reflux, this can also play a part of how long she manages in between.

She is sound asleep atm and has been for a while, I how ever am wide awake :/

HungryHorace · 29/08/2013 07:09

Babies aren't very reliable / consistent are they?!

Pink, is she really squashed and contained at the moment? She may like more space and be calmer. Or make noise taking advantage of it!

Minor miracle last night. DD ate at 9, then slept for about 5 hours until 2.45. She would only settle on me afterwards, but still then had another 3 hours' sleep and almost 4 hours between feeds. Getting there.

She only ate 110ml at 9 too. Imagine how long we would get after a full feed. It wasn't even the hungry milk!

Mrs81 · 29/08/2013 07:22

We transferred to the cot at c8 wks, mostly because there was so much wriggling going on, he'd end up with bum at bottom of basket and legs in air Hmm

He still wriggles in the cot but (thankfully) is such a short arse that he can rotate 90+ degrees. He'll start clobbering his head soon on the bars though!

Hawkmoth · 29/08/2013 07:46

Not going to post about Bobbie's sleeping, because it's not normal and not helpful. But she does wake up if there's the slightest draught. She absolutely hates having cold hands, and screams big time. Also screams when she pushes her head against the bars, although yesterday she had bar marks impressed on her forehead and I had to wake her because I was leaking everywhere.

She hardly looked at me yesterday, but had smiles for everyone else. Felt a bit taken for granted really.

Today should be poo day. There really should be some middle ground between eight a day and one every 48 hours. The last one was clearly the work of an evil genius.

SunnyL · 29/08/2013 07:57

Hawk we had the result of 4 days on constipation yesterday. My dad who has 5 grandkids and 3 kids of his own had to leave the room. Giggle monster thought it was hilarious!

No advice on the sleeping thing. Some weeks we have magic baby who sleeps for 6-8hrs in one stretch. Other weeks we have naughty baby who wakes up every 2 hrs. Of course naughty baby tends to emerge when DH is on nightshift and im on my own.

Pink we are moving into the cot next week as she is getting too big for the moses. There is about 1 inch clearance at her head now.

curlyclaz13 · 29/08/2013 08:03

every hour again last night Sad

pinkbear82 · 29/08/2013 09:25

I think lack of sleep is clearly having an affect on clear thinking.... We have a 10 wk old puppy.... She's very cute and to give her credit she slept very well last night and didn't hear a peep out of her.
The thinking of I'm at home so training time can be given, love going out for walks with dd so now we'll take dog along too (and it'll stop the popping into shops and spending) clearly wasn't as logical as I thought. Hmm Can I nappy the pup up too?!

After two bad nights of sleep for me, I have just put the pil off coming round, pup sleeping, dd almost down, I too am going to sleep. And nt feel guilty I dodged the pil, they can come round when their son is home and I have had sleep so don't accidentally be rude to them.......

pinkapples · 29/08/2013 10:18

Yea she is a bit squished not much clearance anywhere to be fair about an inch if that at the head end if that and she kicks out which sends the Moses basket rocking so will attempt to fit cot in our bedroom tonight and see if it helps :-)

HungryHorace · 29/08/2013 12:10

I think that's a good plan as she may not be overly comfy now. See how it goes.

And swerving the PiL is always a good plan, pinkbear!

Mutley77 · 29/08/2013 14:42

We put DD in her cot, from Moses Basket, when she was about 3 or 4 weeks.... (in our room as plenty of space and her room on a different floor so not practical esp with so many night wakings!! - as well as I like having her close at this age). We did put her in her carry cot for quite a few nights around 6-10 weeks as she seemed to like being more contained and slept better. However she is pretty much too big for that now and seems to be used to having the space in the cot.

Hope everyone gets a good night's sleep tonight. Is 9.30pm here so am going to bed shortly to try and make the most of DD's (hopefully to be continued) 6 hour stretch until 1 a.m. - and hoping that it will be followed by another 6 hour stretch until 7!! (highly unlikely).

Olimoss · 29/08/2013 15:10

Omg have just learnt about the 4-month sleep regression. Is giving me horrors as will be on own travelling to and in Australia when it's due. Anyone else?

Re: feeding and sleeping, J tends to have two little short naps in the morning between his 7 and 11am feeds, then again at 1230pm for a longer 2-hr sleep, then a nap again about 430pm before bath, feed and bed again at 7pm. He's dream-fed at 11pm then at moment is feeding at 3 and 7am. We are currently reducing his 3am feed by 20ml a night to get him off it, and hopefully to feed better in the morning, rather than the annoying snacking he prefers. So far so good.

He's growing rapidly out of the Moses Basket and we can't fit the cot in our room, really, not without a bit of hassle. His room is right next door to ours so do you think it will be ok to move him? Am nervous but he's getting a bit squished in the basket, still using his wedge and a swaddle, too.

12-week injections yesterday (a week late) with nary a sign other than slightly reduced appetite to show for it. Babies are funny things....

Hope everyone is doing ok, haven't had much time to pop in lately due to work and life and what seems like continuous visitors staying.

curlyclaz13 · 29/08/2013 15:15

I am aware of the four month sleep regression, what happens if they aren't sleeping by then ? I can't do every 30 minutes Shock

HungryHorace · 29/08/2013 15:30

Maybe they start sleeping, curly! :-)

curlyclaz13 · 29/08/2013 16:32

here's hoping hh ! it's a good job they're cute isn't !

pinkapples · 29/08/2013 16:59

Oli I'm sure he'd be ok in his own room we are having her in our room tonight in the cot which I just moved on my own might I add not easy! And if alls ok then she'll be In her own room next week 12 weeks as I'm going back to work
We're a little bit more conscious as DH's sister died of cot death when she was 4 mths Sad

hedgehogy · 29/08/2013 17:08

Hawkmoth, did the poo change after immunisations? DD used to poo (a small amount) in more or less every nappy. Since the first lot of vaccinations, she poos once every few days! She's not constipated as it's still runny (she's bf) but the change was sudden after the immunisations. The HV said it could be the rotavirus vaccination but the nurse said it's probably coincidence (I doubt it as it happened instantly). Whatever the cause, they're nightmare nappies!

curlyclaz13 · 29/08/2013 17:22

Those of you whose babies have outgrown moses baskets do you have prams with the same issue ? There is not much room left for growing but I know that they should stay flat in the pram until six months. Has anyone swapped to the pushchair seat yet ?

Olimoss · 29/08/2013 17:36

Curly - J has been in the pram seat of our iCandy Strawberry for 4 weeks now as he hated the bassinet ... Us fine as the seat lays flat. He's so much happier that way...
