Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SunnyL · 26/08/2013 15:25

Phew. Didnt need to double bag but did need to discretely wipe away a bit of puke. The things i never thought about when swimming before!

AlohaMama · 26/08/2013 19:52

Vaguely trying to keep up, but on holiday in Lyme Regis with the family right now and internet reception is patchy at best. Had a horrendous night last night with dd, who did not go to sleep till 2am. She had been awake since about 6.30pm. How is that even possible??! Napped fine in the day so I can't work out what was going wrong, just hoping not to have a repeat performance tonight. Part of me wonders if she just needed to cry it out but as we're staying in a big house with parents, 2 sisters + families I felt I needed to keep her quiet. Urgh.

On another topic, anyone got any tips on how to stop baby poop staining clothes? I can't seem to get them clean, not sure what to do.

Glad you had a good christening Sunny.

Littlemissexpecting · 26/08/2013 20:56

Aloha I use vanish either the pre wash spray or the tub of powder that you add to washing machine.
Then hang on the washing line as the sun bleaches them out.

Sarah2506 · 26/08/2013 21:10

Napisan working well for us Aloha!

pinkapples · 27/08/2013 02:56

Aloha we have the poo problem to so will be anticipating answers Grin

We were getting into a routine but now so for some reason Theiah decides tonight's the night for singing in the Moses basket hmmm not cool! Although she sounds like she's having a great time

May have actually stopped bleeding now so that's good woohoo

Hope you enjoyed swimming what did you do exactly? We're starting in sept not sure what to expect

Devilforasideboard · 27/08/2013 09:11

Hello again! I posted and then disappeared as DH found out he's being sent away with work for six months tomorrow. I have no idea how I'm going to cope although have now got a childminder sorted 2 days a week to give me a break plus a cleaner.

Is anyone else struggling a bit with the feed/sleep thing? I had it sorted then he started doing one longer stretch at night (woo) so I moved on to getting him settled earlier. We do bath/bottle/bed from about 6.30 and asleep by 7.45 but he now wakes crying at about 10.30, 11.30 and then needs fed at about 12.30. I'm thinking of trying feeding when he wakes at 10.30 to see if he'll then go longer. Does that make sense?

SunnyL · 27/08/2013 09:27

Pink the swimming involved a lot of singing and dunking babies in time with the music. Involves getting over my fear of singing anywhere other than the car but the LO's definately enjoy it.

Devil - 6 months? Jeez that's rotten. A lot of sympathy for you. I hope you've got family near by.

Devilforasideboard · 27/08/2013 09:59

Sadly not but we're moving in 6 weeks and will have much more support then. Just these 6 weeks to push through really and my mum is coming down for at least a few days which will be a massive help.

Ps I'm with you on the singing thing, I'm even embarrassed to sing for the baby!

pinkapples · 27/08/2013 18:46

Anyone else having serious issues with finger/hand sucking? I knew they discover there digits at this age but she's at them constantly

DontmindifIdo · 27/08/2013 19:07

Devil, I'd feed at 10:30, obviously your lo needs more food through the night and that sounds a far more civilised time to do it than 12!

Dd has been really sicky the last couple of days, poor wee thing. Trying to just keep up her liquids. Hmm

Also she's started getting a little cradle cap, ds had it really badly and I had hoped she'd miss it. Time to crack open the olive oil and invest in some jaunty hats for her...

curlyclaz13 · 27/08/2013 19:09

pinkapples, Oscar is the same, I thought it might be teething but I'm not sure, he has taken to sucking his lips today as well. I have got him a sophie giraffe to chew but he hasn't got the hang of it yet !

DontmindifIdo · 27/08/2013 19:12

Oh and noticed today Boots have 3 for 2 on baby clothes, and they appear to have lots of things that are neither pink nor blue! (am already sick of pink, plus I don't think it suits dd, pink is a hard colour to pull off, there's a reason very few adult woman wear it)

Mrs81 · 27/08/2013 19:49

Yes, there's a lot of finger/hand sucking here too. I think its a comfort thing for DS as he's been doing it for as long as he was able to find his mouth. He'll also suck on muslin cloths/soft toy given half the chance.
I've assumed not teeth yet because there's no accompanying flushed cheeks etc (but this is DC1 so I might be being naive about teething!)

A bit of a fail on the bottle feeding this weekend (it worked for one day, not the other two). Hey ho.

curiousgeorgie · 27/08/2013 21:15

Hi everyone Smile

Need to catch up on the thread but just had a quick question...

Has anyone had a period yet? I only had very light bleeding for a couple of days after my c section and then it went away, I'm not breastfeeding and have formula fed from the start and yet it's been 9 weeks now and still nothing...

With DD1 I had the same post birth bleeding and a period 4 weeks later so didn't know if I should start to worry! Blush

HungryHorace · 27/08/2013 21:26

We have hand sucking here. And she will suck my finger too, actually pushing my finger in her mouth to gnaw on! Yuck!

We can see her teeth, but they haven't popped through yet.

Georgie, I had a light period after almost 9 weeks. It was light but crampy. Or I assume it was a period and not the return of lochia as it's stopped now.

Sunbeam18 · 27/08/2013 22:35

Georgie, I had a period at about 7 weeks that lasted about 3-4 days. I'm EBF so was surprised. I believe it's quite normal not to get one for many months after the birth?

pinkapples · 27/08/2013 22:44

Were formula feeding after 4 weeks of breast feeding and I think I had one about week 7 Theiah's now 11 weeks on Thursday and it just stopped about 5 days ago

Littlemissexpecting · 28/08/2013 03:32

We're now on formula after 9 weeks of ebf so not sure when my period will return. Got the mini pill from gp but not started taking it yet.

I'm still trying to express though.
Think my milk has nearly gone though got nothing from one of my breasts last night. Not sure if that's it gone or if it was worth trying some fenugreek. I wake up in morning in pain feeling engorged and struggle to hold ds against them but when I express been getting very little. Not sure when its time to grudgingly call it a day as ds still won't take nipple

Littlemissexpecting · 28/08/2013 03:44

For those on bottles, how many oz does your lo have? MW said very different to what's on box of formula.box says 6oz 5/6 times a day for 10 weeks but mw said 3-4oz every 3-4 hrs. I'm struggling to work out when he's actually still hungry or just guzzling if its there, I don't want to make him sick and aware bottle feeding can stretch his tummy.
Currently has around 5oz every 3 hours not sure if I tried increasing it to 6oz if it would keep him going longer?

HungryHorace · 28/08/2013 09:38

Littlemiss, the most we have is 5oz at a time. It tends to be between 3-5oz, depending on how LO feels. She won't finish a bottle if she doesn't want it. We don't want to stretch her tummy so aren't upping it yet, especially as she mostly doesn't finish a bottle anyway.

As long as they're eating enough and putting on weight, my HV doesn't mind how they eat.

I wish DD would go longer, but she won't, sadly. She went 5.5 hours between feeds last night. Sadly the feeds were 6.30 and midnight. Not when we wanted sleep.

DontmindifIdo · 28/08/2013 11:31

Littlemiss - DD normally has about 4-5oz, we normally make up the full feed she should be having (180mls, just over 6) but she's rarely finishing it. For timings, we're feeding at roughly; 7am (or when she wakes up), 10:30am, 2/2:30pm, 4:30/5pm (but this is only a 'top up' of 90ml/3oz), 6:30pm, 10:30pm (we dream feed that one), then she normally wakes between 3:30 - 4:30am for another feed.

It's worth keeping an eye on how much your DS is having, add it up and you'll have an idea if he's got enough/needs more. Some DCs need more than others, my DD doesn't seem to want that much.

I can highly recommend the dream feed at 10:30pm, it really does get you a longer stretch of sleep when you want it.

HungryHorace · 28/08/2013 12:23

The dream feeds don't work for everyone, Dontmind, as DD still wakes 3-3.5 hours after one :-(

We don't have regular times, but DD feeds every 2-3 hours during the day, she will go a touch longer after her 6/7 pm feed, then every 3-3.5 hours at night.

We keep a diary of feeds and she always has at least the 900ml the 5 x 180 mls would total if she was to conform to this! Some days we have 1.1 litres in total.

An example now is she screamed for food and only wanted a 40ml top up before going to sleep.

I'm wondering if the hungry baby milk would help at night.

Mutley77 · 28/08/2013 14:48

Hungryhorace we have the same night issue as you. Ddhas done the odd 5 to 5.5 hour stretch but aalways from 630 or 7. Dream feed doesn't help as she will only take a small feed at 12 (or whenever she wakes for it or we wake her!) and wakes religiously 3 hours after. I therefore think to let her sleep the long stretch is better as it is teaching her the habit of sleeping longer without food even if that stretch of sleep is not well timed!

Daytime feeds are 3hourly like clockwork too. but then she was ill after being born and we had to feed her 3 hourly at a minimum so I can't really blame the poor child for getting accustomed to that!

Sorry about bad typing, am on. Phone.

Mutley77 · 28/08/2013 14:50

Sorry also I am making up feeds of 180ml but often Dd only drinks 120 or a little more. Other than 1pm, for some reason she is hungry at lunchtime and drinks that one straight down!

pinkapples · 28/08/2013 18:29

Theiah does what it says on the tin for the most part... She has 5x 6oz bottles (she's 11 weeks tomorrow) in a 24hr period so between 8-9am then between 1-2pm (sometimes longer) then a dinner time one about 6-7pm and another about 10.30pm sometimes dream feed sometimes not then she wakes between 3-4am. She drinks all 6oz in about a half hour 45 min session

The exception to this is some nights she gets up at 1am and 5am not the 3-4am which is a nightmare but that's normally once every week or so
