I'm well over the sun now!

I don't mind the sun it's just so hard to keep babies cool! I reckon I got the last paddling pool in the area yesterday! Argos have totally sold out but I got one (the only one I could see) from Tesco direct. We have my friend and her DD (who is about 5 months) coming to visit so I've blown it up, filled it and put it in the sun so hopefully it'll feel warm for the babies to splash in later.

I definitely think it's way to hot for adults and babies!I've also turned into a paranoid mother who wakes up half a dozen times in the night to make sure the baby isn't too hot!!!

She's really starting to grow up. When she's on her back she likes rolling onto her side and back and yesterday when I gave her tummy time she started moving forward across her mat by humping her bottom up and down like a caterpillar Grin it was hilarious she actually got really far and was making the funniest growling noises whilst she did it! I love having a baby around she's full time entertainment when she's awake much better then day time TV Wink

Yeah u don't need a tv when u hav a baby! I've found that sometimes a groups of adults can sit in a room and just watch! Although my lo does like to watch the tv! I don't encourage t but he will turn himself o watch it if its on, oops

Update on the norovirus jab; I was able to get E the first dose of the noroirus jab at the 12 week jabs, but I had to ask, as there is no catch up campaign, and this dose is normally given at the 8 week jabs...

I plan to remind the nurse to give the second dose, as againnit won't be part of the normal routine atvyhe 4 month jabs... she'd only given 2 doses so far, so all a bit new... so far no side effects, other than a bit windy!

Is anyone else's little one sucking their thumb?! Ds2 is properly sucking his thumb whilst asleep and if I remove his hand from near his mouth he just finds it again. Stupidly I forgot to put on a sleep suit with the fold over mittens too. All I can hear is him sucking away! Blush Ds1 didn't do this at all so not sure whether to worry or not?!

Report
AmberLav · 21/07/2013 03:42

Cheese no but there's a discussion on the merits of thumb sucking over on fb... E just sticks her whole hand in just now!

The whole sucking thing they are doing now is a developmental thing, so any thumb sucking may only be temporary...

Hi all - I am keeping up with you - just finding FB easier to post on!

cheese I have a champion fist slurper here! She occasionally finds just her thumb, and sometimes sucks on whatever material is at hand. I'm not worrying about it!

trish what a little star! I bet you feel great for it!

bird BabyCandy is also a wriggler, she's more interested in forwards / sideways than she is in rolling over. When I have her TT on my belly/chest she really digs her feet in and can propel herself quite well!

Having a super grumpy week here - definitely tiredness, she has too much to be doing to want to sleep!

Report
catherine19 · 21/07/2013 16:27

We've been grumpy here as well, I think it mite be the start of teething, he's been a super drooler for weeks and his gums are getting whiter. Can see any tips yet. He also rubs his gums with his has little hand as well!

Report
KeepTheFaithBaby · 21/07/2013 16:52

We have a dribbly fist chewer here. No obvious signs of teeth but doubt it'll be long.

My not so tiny baby is basically refusing to sleep in her Moses basket. She goes in when fast asleep but if she stirs in the night she has a strop when I put her back in so we end up co-sleeping. Cue a trip to town this morning for DH to buy a mattress for the cot so she can sleep in it tonihht! It fits in our room firtinately. She's only 3 months, in not ready to put her in her own room yet! She must be long, she's in my nephew's moses basket and he didn't outgrow it too he was 5 1/2 months!

Think we will have to drop to 4 bottles if he carries on sleeping that long!!

Trish that is fab! We haven't had any recurrences of sleeping more than 3-4 hours. Ah well, he will get there one day (I hope).

Mastitis is going, a combo of oversupply with extra feeds in this hot weather, bad latch (still) and the heat. I can't believe the faff of taking these pills though, 1 hour before food and not being able to take another until 2 hours after eating. I am starving, I normally graze on fruit during the day and really been missing it.

Went to a NNS and picked up
Lots of great items for W and B. Some beautiful dresses from designers at debenhams for DD for £1 each, she spent the afternoon trying them on and having a dance about :)

We've mostly been avoiding the sun, it really is intense, W just comes out in a heat rash so it isn't worth it. We are waiting to hear how a friends baby is doing after collapsing and being rushed off in an ambulance :(

Kelle - any news yet on your friend's little one? Hope it is good news when it arrives...

On a more frivolous topic, now the baby media storm starts! I can't think of many things worse than giving birth with the whole country on tenterhooks!

Has anyone decided on any of the big stuff Los are coming up to needing? High chairs walkers etc?
I have opted not to get a walker as there isn't lots of space in our house for a lo to move about in one. I've ordered a bright starts entertainer instead basically a wheel-less walker!

Report
KeepTheFaithBaby · 22/07/2013 10:27

My sister is anti-walkers because it encourages tip toe walking (she's a children's Physio). I'm anti them because they bash the skirting boards! We had borrowed a high chair but the lender needs it back as she's just found out she's pregnant! That one is a seat that attaches to a dining chair,I think we'll get a similar one.

Amber I agree! Only my sister was told when I went into labour! Imagine everyone with access to modern technology knowing.

Well Faithlet seems to be changing patterns.....she used to settle between 8 & 10 and sleep til 4-6. Now she's waking at 11 and 5! Feeding more in the afternoon so I think it's a growth spurt. She slept ok in her cot (outgrown Moses basket at 3 months). My tiny, low birth baby is no more! :)

Hello,
Long time lurker and new to this. My DS born early April so here I am!
Got a v chatty baby today, will make the most of it because bedtimes are a nightmare.
Bit of rolling, occasional giggles- going to weigh him later but reckon he's got to be nearing 20 lbs already, everything ends up in his gob.

Anyways, just wanted to join in!

kellestar · 22/07/2013 13:38

Friends baby is recovering from heat stroke, on IV fluids. Hopefully home tomorrow.

We have a graco play station, like the Jumperoo/walker, which DD loved. I don't like walkers, DD cruised around our corner sofa for confidence.

We had a high chair, chicco with height adjustment. Was handy when DD wasn't able to sit well. Now she has a booster on a dining chair. Will see how well Wilf sits as to wether we get the high chair out of the attic.

Thursday, yeah make the most of the best times! I'm not going for a walker because of the mixed views and for the sake of the skirting boards etc! We do hav a jumperoo, I think that prob isn't fab for for positioning but at least that is just in jumping. Mil bought us a high chair when I wa pregnant! I was fuming as we are. But skint any everything else had been real bargains and second hand, if she had le me hav my pick I cud hav got a decent high chair and loads more!
I hav been looking at safety gates though, I no it's early but u can get better bargains when got in advance and I want 3! Doesn't anyone no if the pressure fit o se are as good as the drill in ones? Also what so good about th expensive ones? I can't believe the price diff!

My 'lo' was 18lb8oz when last weighed at 13wks. It's nice the hear he's not the only chunky monkey, particularly as nearly every one tells be how big he is!

Report
ThursdayLast · 22/07/2013 17:52

It's ok, turns out I was accidentally exaggerating...he is in fact only 17lb 1oz.

Although I say only, he is only 3 and a half months old!

Blimey catherine19 I can only imagine how done in your back is and how toned your arms are, no one needs an 'arm day' when your little one ain't so little!

We haven't bought any of the big things mentioned in this thread yet, so will be watching eagle eyed for recommendations. Will also go have a look on fb and see if I can find you all...

I'm actually shocked my arms aren't looking toned! Gutted!
The feel like a ton when their wiggling though!
