99p shop here has blow up pools... tiny but so are the babes!

catherine19 · 14/07/2013 07:32

This mite sound daft but, it is ok just to out it in a shady part of the garden or do I need some kind of cover for a paddling pool to stop lo getting burnt?

KeepTheFaithBaby · 14/07/2013 07:41

I put ours in the shade and put her in a uv swimsuit. Should be ok. Best thing is to put sun cream on when they're nude so you don't miss anywhere!

Not a bad night but Faithlet woke at 4, I think she was thirsty rather than hungry. She's currently snoozing on me :)

AmberLav · 14/07/2013 07:44

I would be inclined to limit the amount of time lo was in the water, as you have to watch with water for reflection too. Even in a sun tent they say to limit the time to no more than 45 minutes...

But even babies can cope with some sun exposure as it helps make vitamin D, so a shady area will be fine for a while...

And remember that swim nappies are not waterproof, they are just designed to hold in poo! I got a bit damp yesterday when DS was nervous about going in the water and wanted to be held!

usernamegoeshere · 14/07/2013 09:41

Marking place as keep dropping off, more into Facebook mostly as I love the pictures! Also not much time to post here since a certain baby only seems to nap for 2 mins at a time unless I take her out!!

I really hope naps improve again!

AmberLav · 14/07/2013 10:14

User they will do in time! May not be quite as quickly as you are hoping, but they will do!

angeltattoo · 14/07/2013 10:54

nic we've had our flat on since i was about 6 weeks pg, so it took a while, but things are definitely pickung up so it might not take long. You're in London aren't you? I think the market is moving pretty quickly there.

faith LO has taken to wanting a 4am drink here too! No sleep through here in recent nights!

I got a jumperoo on ebay yesterday, off to the Isle of Dogs later to collect it, but DH has dropped the bombshell his car has no air conditioning! D'oh! He must have upset the person at work who dishes out the cars, ha ha. On my due date he came home in a one-seater go kart car with no windows, in the pouring rain. No room for a wife or hospital bag, and definitely not a maxicosi! ;-)

birdbrain21 · 14/07/2013 13:35

marking on new thread got loads to catch up on as been so busy with moving not had time to check online Sad

baby bird loved the rotavirus vaccine, she was sucking on the syringe like it was a bottle and licking her lips after! The second set of jabs was definitely better then the first so hopefully third lot will be absolutely fine.
She really hates the heat been really fussy the last few days, not happy to play by herself and not feeding properly anyone else found this?

She turned 3 months old last week, how funny the first 12 weeks of pregnancy took ages but the first 12 weeks after they've been born absolutely flies!!! Grin

birdbrain21 · 14/07/2013 13:36

Those of you ebf when you express and give a bottle how many ounces are you giving?not sure if I'm giving enough, she always tries to carry on sucking the empty bottle but is happy with a dummy and doesn't cry so don't know if she's still hungry or just wants to suck?!

KeepTheFaithBaby · 14/07/2013 13:49

Hi bird! Faithlet has been eating little and often most of the time. However she had a good couple of hours asleep and fed for a long time when she woke this morning.

Expressing wise I usually express about 3-4oz. It varies but she usually takes about 2.5-3oz. If she's still sucking at the end of the bottle I'd think she might want a bit more! We always finish giving Faithlet the boob anyway.

catherine19 · 14/07/2013 19:47

My lo didn't get anything orally at his 2nd set of jabs just 2 injections, shud I b worried
Ta fir e paddling pool advice we went to mil so didn't use anyway!

catherine19 · 14/07/2013 19:57

Just read on NHS site that he can hav the rotavirus vaccine so will contact GPS in the morning!

LikeCandy · 14/07/2013 22:08

I've just googled rotavirus vaccine and we've missed the cut off for having it by 1 week! I wonder why we weren't offered at 12w jabs?

We've got 16w vaccines tomorrow - fingers crossed she finds them nice and easy!

Has anyone started supplementing their LO with vitamins yet? Our HV has been pushing them since 1m! Apparently vit D shortage is causing ricketts?
I bought some last week but have no idea how I'm meant to give them to her, they say to dilute but she doesn't take a bottle!

Dysgu · 14/07/2013 23:32

Candy we give E Dalavit (and iron) which is prescribed due to him coming so early. All my kids have had the same stuff for the same reason. I did read something somewhere recently about how kids should hae vitamins until they are 5... although I am sure we stopped well before then with all of ours.

Every so often now we will buy gummy bear or Peppa Pig vitamins for the DDs but we never really keep them going.

DP and I do not take vitamins.

We all seem pretty healthy, rarely get colds and the DDs are excelling in pre-school/school (for what that is worth at the ages of 4 and 6)!

Wellkids baby vitamins are used by friends of ours...

Dysgu · 14/07/2013 23:33

Oh and we either put E's vitamin and iron in a bottle or else just syringe them into his mouth. The vitamins smell awful but he never minds having them.

Can buy syringes from chemist or get some from nurse when you have jabs. Our nurse offers them in case baby needs calpol following jabs - i always take a couple as they are useful for medicines.

EssexWelsh · 14/07/2013 23:39

I asked about rotovirus at 2nd jabs and nurse said he'll never have it as missed birth date cut off! Need to pursue if can request it but nurse acted like it was not an option!

AmberLav · 15/07/2013 01:30

I remember reading last year that the rotavirus vaccine would be offered to all babies born after September 2013, so I wasn't expecting E to be eligible, but I think she might be now, as she will be 12 weeks at her next jabs this coming Friday (there's a poster in the GP's waiting room about them), but I'll wait and see...

AmberLav · 15/07/2013 01:33

On vitamins, I used a brand that Sainsbury's stocked (possibly wellkids?) and that didn't need diluting, and came with a tiny syringe... Not bought any this time round, as I can get vitamin D into her system by small daily sun exposure (10 mins is enough), particularly at the moment!

AmberLav · 15/07/2013 01:38

Rotavirus researched! The cut off birthdate is 1 May 2013, but it looks like they can have the first dose at up to 15 weeks, and the second dose up to 24 weeks, so that explains the discrepancies with some April babies getting it and some not, as it's only been available since 1 July. I will ask for it on Friday, and see what happens...

catherine19 · 15/07/2013 08:20

The cut off was 1st may but then apparently it brought forward, there didn't b a post code lottery!

LikeCandy · 15/07/2013 20:06

Thanks all
dysgu I bought dalivit on the recommendation of the pharmacist, so many types to choose from!
Need to get one of those crazy medicine spoons...

Trishstar · 16/07/2013 06:48

Hello everyone,Smile

I'm new on this thread... I need help fast. DS is 3months and won't take formula. He totally hates the taste of it. Who has any idea of how I can get it to start taking formula?

Thank you.

Trishstar · 16/07/2013 10:58

Welcome bananas!!!

Has he always had formula or are you trying to swap him over from breast milk? Xx
