wow my lo isn;t even 11lb yet at 14 weeks, I can't imagine her being nearly 20, she hurts my back enough as it is!!!!

Today was way way way too hot!!!!!Normally during the day she sleeps about 4 hours broken up into 3 sleeps, today she slept 20 mins and yelled everytime she was put down but I was too hot to hold her!!!! Any tips for staying calm when babies start yelling like that, sometimes I get really cross with her and just leave her in a room by herself for a few mins yelling but then I just feel guilty after that it upset her even more Hmm

Anyway must go to sleep for a bit and hope this thunder doesn't wake her up!!!!!

The thunder woke me up, right in the middle of my potential hour an a half sleep, as E decided to feed st 12 and 2! But then she thankfully lasted till now, so not too bad a night in the end! It was an awesome storm though - one crack of lightning must have been almost on top of us, gave an almighty crash of thunder! Thankfully both kids slept through it!

Have - I didn't buy a high chair for DS till he was 6 months, as babies are a bit floppy before then...

Bird it's so tuff when they hav constant cries! U do the right thing leaving her in a safe place while u take a breath. I find putting my lo in his pram and either just rocking him in the house or going out for a walk usually helps us.
Gosh my ds was 10lb at birth! Must b lovely to hav a tiny tiny bundle! No one believes me when I tell them how old ds is x

Thank you bird. I haven't really ever found a way to calm DS down from those kinds of shouts. Just holding him and bouncing him til the terrors pass, but it mostly seems like he wears himself out. I'm lucky in that my DP works from home, so he often finds a red faced gremlin thrust into his arms while I pace it out!

We are celebrating a mini milestone this lunchtime- DS managed his whole baby massage, tummy time and all, this morning. No grouchiness or tears (from either of us!) for the first time, what a treat!

Only one baby bigger at massage, said baby is 2 months older than DS. Mental.

Catherine we have 3 baby gates in already for dog segregation purposes! We have 2 mothercare gates and a lindam one. I prefer the lindam one as it is slightly more sturdy and the handle is easier with one hand. Having said that there is nothing wrong with the mothercare ones either. They are all pressure ones and are pretty secure.

High chair wise we went for the stokke trip trap - it has a newborn attachment so we use it already. It also turns into a childs chair and an adult can perch on it as well so even though it is pricey we thought it was worth it for several years worth of use.

Here you go catherine Lindam safety gate for £13.49!

We'll be getting the Ikea Antilop high chair - I think it's £13 but it has fantastic reviews, single piece, easy to clean (breaks down so it can be put in dishwasher!) I was looking at the TrippTrapp but it won't work for us as I need a tray, baby won't be eating at a table!

Thankfully today was a bit cooler and baby bird was much better behaved, even had our first proper giggle this morning!!!Grin I woke up DH to hear it, he wasn't impressed but it was already 8:30am and I was so excited.

Had her weighed at HV today at 14 weeks she's 10lb 12oz there was a 8 week old baby there who weighed the same!!!!

Another big baby here - E was 13lbs 3ozs at 11 weeks, but she was 10lbs 3ozs at birth!

I was at the doctors today, and could hear the nurses bring amazed at how Kate had managed to hide a 8 pounder in her little bump! Even 10 minutes before E was born, her midwife was confidently predicting there was no way that she was as big as her brother (9lbs 12ozs)! Ah, the memories!

I do think thst every new parent deserves an applauding crowd as they leave the hospital!

How's people doing for naps? I put Ds2 down about half an hour ago, and he's already fussing and waking up! He sleeps ok over night but naps are just horrendous he's still tired but just won't stay asleep!

Report
KeepTheFaithBaby · 24/07/2013 10:56

Faithlet never napped in her Moses basket (maybe 3 times for 10-15 minutes!). Not tried her in the cot to be fair. She naps in the pram/car seat/swinging chair/on me. Stays asleep the longest in the chair actually! Maybe because of the motion.

Nap times are entirely sporadic in this house, but never usually last longer than 45 mins. The exception to this is when I'm tired too and we bed down together after a feed, usually by the afternoon when I don't have the fight in me to get him into his cot! Yesterday I reckon he did two lots of 45 mins next to me, and stayed asleep when I got up.

He's just woken from a nap in his cot, but when I peeped he's sucking his thumb, so I'm doing a test session to see if he can settle himself back down...hahahahaha hahahahaha talk about optimistic!

Oh nice he's been asleep for over 2hrs! Got ironing done, dishes, had lunch (used 2 hands to eat and no songs) and put away washing that has been there since just after he was born!

I'm very jealous catherine and thursday that your LOs are sleeping pretty well. T seems to have forgotten how to sleep (day or night) unless I feed her into a stupor. I blame the heat, at least I hope that's it and this is temporary.

Re high chairs we're also going for the Ikea £13 job, my sister had one and it was brilliant.

The transition from the moses basket to the cot is not going well. I've tried putting the moses basket in the cot but T only sleeps for a very short time, how does she know? Hmm She only seems to like sleeping in her basket if it's on the floor. Bugger, the little monkey has only been asleep an hour and she's just woken up again. It's going to be a long night...

AmberLav · 26/07/2013 00:45

Teapig - I'm getting a trifle concerned by how often I am feeding to sleep, day and night! I am hoping that the rule that it's impossible to spoil them up to 6 months still applies! DS changed hugely between 3 and 6 months, but he was generally easier to get to sleep during the day... Oh well, at least I'll know in a couple of months!

I should know whether it's just a heat thing soon, as I'm heading up to Scotland at the weekend, to show E off to my family!

Does the ikea high chair fold up? We will need something space saving when not being used hence why I wanted the Gracco Contempo x

Amber I try to avoid feeding to sleep in the day too much but it's still my go to at night! Sleep training can come later if needs be.

I think we'll get a high chair that attaches to a dining chair. It worked well for my nephew.

I still have to feed to sleep at night but he will self settle in the day. No daytime nap routine - different times everyday at the moment and a few rough nights lately - it is slightly cooler here than it has been so I am wondering if its a growth spurt or the dreaded 4 month sleep regression!

I have had one really good night this week though where he slept for 7 hours - I was looking forward to another one but alas he woke up every 2 hours and fed for eaons last night!!!

teapig, the heat REALLY messed up DS sleeping, partly because his nursery was marginally cooler so we had together him to sleep in there rather than in our room. He seems to have settled back down a bit now.

We also had a BBQ with loads of people round, and me and DP may have got a bit, ahem, tipsy. Any routine went out of the window that evening and contributed to the hell up I reckon. ALSO, I think he had a mini growth spurt, coz a couple of times when he finished the bottle with his dad he WOULD NOT be consoled by anything other than the boob. But who knows? It's all a guessing game in this house!

Anyway, rather than waffling on I was hoping to reassure you that for us it seems to have been a phase, and hasn't upset his essential sleeping habits- still a fricking nightmare to get to sleep at bedtime 😊
