Hi Trishstar Smile,

He has always had breastmilk, I just want to partially swap him to formula. Partially meaning just morning and night.

KeepTheFaithBaby · 16/07/2013 14:05

bananas have you given DS expressed milk in a bottle? Is it possible it's the bottle rather than the formula? Which bottles have you tried?

Report
Trishstar · 16/07/2013 14:35

As faith says it could be the bottle/teat? What are you using? We use NUK as its hospital used/recommended where i am. my DS doesnt mind switching between breast and bottle.

It could be the formula also.

Try mixing 50/50 formula/EBM if it isn't the bottle

@keepthefaith, I have given him breastmilk with d bottle so I'm almost sure its not the bottle.[Sad]

@Trishstar, I use tommee tippee.

The funny thing is he takes it from his nanny during the day. He just won't take from me b4 bed.... I also tried changing bottle, but he won't take from any with me. [Shock]

Maybe try mixing the BM with the formula xx

He prob nos it u and ure with holding the good stuff (in his fab little mind) could someone else give the bottle? Apparently there is little diff in taste to babies it's more the consistany, try u giving a bottle of emb to see if it is the formula

I agree with both of the above. Imagine he's working with basic senses- he's used to BM then you offer him a bottle, he smells your milk but what's in the bottle tastes different! It might help to mix them but its worth seeing if he'll take it from someone else.

So apparently the Royal baby is on the way, a police officer friend has been despatched near the hospital in anticipation-eek, exciting!

I wonder if she'll manage the hypnobirthing? I'd have studied more about that if I'd known I was having such a rapid delivery. Next time eh?!

Hello all!
Time sure is flying!
Dd is 15 weeks, sleeps 10ish hours at night, laughs and can almost roll all the way over
Have other people introduced a sippee cup yet? I just bought one today and plan to introduce with water in it tomorrow.
My pet peev is older babies 18 months plus walking round with bottles especially those with juice. I get urges to snatch and bin them.
Both of older dcs were bottle free on first birthday. Literally the night before they turned one I binned every bottle. This possibly comes from my working with children and seeing countless children even as old as four sucking on bottles. Yuck.
Rant over!

When babies ditch bottles at a year do they then move over to the sippee cup. If I can't crack T's refusal of the bottle I think I may have to wean her straight to the sippee cup.

welcome bananas. As others have said it might be that your ds can smell your milk and refuses the bottle. Can anyone else try feeding him for you?

num I can't believe how quickly the time goes either. Yay to the rolling. T is now rolling onto her left side whenever she's on her playmat, she's yet to the right or all the way over but I guess it won't be long.

Well this is the first night we've put T upstairs for the evening instead her being downstairs with us. It's taken me 12 weeks to feel comfortable with it but now it feels like a big milestone.

Hope everyone has a good night's sleep, it's just to hot to sleep here.

Welcome bananas! Some additional advice on introducing formula, not that I think these are actually your problem (think he's smelling your milk too much most likely). Temperature can be an issue (bm is nicely warm) and also some babies prefer ready made formula to the powder ( think it's to do with consistency.

Num we phased out the bottle nearer the 18 month mark - DS liked it for morning and evening milk at home (despite giving it up at nursery much earlier) but he had water from a dippy cup, and was even very good with a normal cup long before his first birthday! I figure that can be played by ear, as long as the child is at least able to use a cup, and isn't getting juice in a bottle (also my pet hate along with dummies!).

Poor Kate! The whole world watching, and a heat wave to cope with! I just hope she's found MN and preferably a group forum, so she gets proper advice, especially on breastfeeding!

Oh and well done Teapig! We didn't do that with DS till 5 months, but started at 2 months with E. Can make a big difference to your lives!

Morning all - just found you again! Must say I tend to use the FB page more and I love seeing all the photos.

God I am so OVER this weather. I normally love the heat but baby has been waking twice in the night again (after a good three weeks of sleeping 8-6) and its crap. I'm knackered and hot and sweaty to boot as I'm overweight following pregnancy.

On the up side baby has been happily babbling away in the last few days - he's started having these mini monologues! He'll be on his playmat and just be cooing away to himself. If I try to join in he stops, looks a bit annoyed and then starts up again when I pretend to look away!

Hope you're all doing well.

Karin same here. Every time I put DD in the Moses basket she fussed and cried so I just kept her in bed and fed her when she stirred. Lost count of how many times she fed but it was at least 4!

I think bottles are only for milk and water. I agree, juice/coke (!) in bottles isn't good. tea it might be worth trying a doidy cup?

He last two nights Faithlet has fallen asleep after her bottle and we've put her down in the Moses basket. First night she stirred after 45 minutes, last night the phone woke her Confused but I'm hoping at some point it'll last longer! Them I'll have the confidence to go out in the evening! It's easier for us to put her down in the bedroom though because we're in a bungalow.

Morning all sorry I just can't keep up with the thread anymore but wanted to share that Alex rolled over yesterday!!!!!!GrinGrinGrinGrin And now is twisting and rolling everywhere like a crazy baby Smile
He has also started on some gentle purees on the advice of the preemie nutritionist, he loves apple and hates everything else at the moment Grin but is much more contented now he has some food in his belly, still breast feeding every two hours though but I'm not sure how much of that is the heat.
He has also caught up on all his vaccinations too which he didn't even cry at I'm guessing after all the cannula s and tubes a injection is a piece of cake, it does make me wonder how much he remembers.
He seems to love being out all the time, he gets bored very easily, it's like toy central in here! Luckily He is loving the paddling pool he and ds1 have been in it constantly.
I hope everyone is doing well, try not to melt in the heat Grin x

Wow busy morning on here! I agree with the yak of prolonged bottle use. I hav got a sippy cup to try with water as ds just won't take it! I've tried his norm bottle, diff bottles, tsp, syringe and a cup! He'll take a little when I try something new but next time he just spits it out, he's a stubborn little monkey!
Apparently children who hav been around medical machines etc when babies are calmer in hospitals I can't remember the rest of the study or the names but it suggests there is some for of memory but they don't know it, they suggest this dan b a positive thing as if the do ever need to go in (fingers crossed not!) they hav lower levels of anxiety

Trish, pics up on fb now :) I'm ok thanks much the same but I've managed to put on a bit of weight. I think I've pretty much adapted now I use crutches a lot when round the house and the wheelchair when out but I braved the coast on my crutches the other day, and managed ok. My consultant has said they will need to operate again at some point on my hips, scar tissue is forming and will eventually move the pins and screws they put in but not for a while hopefully. I'm just enjoying being at home with my baby s :)

Just seen the pictures on fb Mama and A is looking absolutely gorgeous Smile and looks so healthy. I keep wanting to say he is looking 'bonnie' IYKWIM so 'normal'. He doesn't have the look of a preemie about him, certainly not a micro preemie. He seems to look very much like the other 'April' babies, regardless of when they arrived.

It sounds like you still have quite a long way to go and more operations but you certainly sound like nothing can beat you. You just seem to keep going and deal with whatever is thrown at you. I think of you often and thin you are awesome Grin

Evan is also very keen to sit up. He can manage for a second or so before toppling sideways. He doesn't seem too bothered about trying to roll and I think he prefers being upright. He is increasingly interested in his toys in the past couple of days and loves it when he kicks the cat on his playmat just right Hmm so that it plays him a tune.
