This thread's topic is what size of nappies are your babies in? And how are the cloth bum babies doing?

OP posts:

I thought babies couldn't get hay fever their first summer?

TheDetective · 08/07/2013 14:27

Yeah that's what Dr Google says too.

But it looks just like hayfever.

They say they have to be exposed to the allergen (ie. The pollen) so babies can't get it.

But he has been exposed. The pollen count has been high a couple of times this year. In my eyes that is exposure.

Everyone who saw him this morning said he looks just like he has hayfever. Which is what I felt like it was a few weeks ago last time we had warm weather.

MissMummy1 · 08/07/2013 14:39

Happy Monday!

Insects - ick.

Poor O det. if it is hayfever I totally sympathise.

So sorry to hear of your SIL's loss stunt. Was she on our thread? I cannot beginto imagine her pain Sad . Hope you have a lovely trip though and hope we can squeeze in a quiche meet - happy to host again!

Enjoying the sun. About to start a massive cookathon as realised last night our freezer is empty. Hoping to tweak some meals for M to have too. except lasagne, I always put a healthy shot of port in lasagne Blush Will be making chicken pie, chilli, PR 's mac cheese (as it is actually referred to oin our house Grin), lasagne, haggis whirls and these sausage rolls. I have already done chicken and sweet potato risotto. May have a bash at beef curry and lamb enchiladas too - on a use up we discovered this is the only way to have enchiladas!!

As I said, our freezer is empty of emergency meals Blush Hmm

Still seething about SIL. DP is trying to be diplomatic. I want nothing more to do with the poisonous witch. She is still trying to blame M for 'being bad' Angry Angry

GTbaby · 08/07/2013 15:15

Det. Lo here has had swollen red eyes last two days. I also thought hayfever. But no runny nose... Never had it myself so not sure.

Left work early today, psin in pelvis bot good. Came home n straight to bed. fH bought me a strawberry milkshake so am very happy ATM :) think ill have a snooze after ice caught up on the thread. Wonder how far ill get! .

Passmethecrisps · 08/07/2013 15:24

You know the diplomatic letter I suggested MM. Fuck that.

PetiteRaleuse · 08/07/2013 15:31

Your SIL is a twat mm

I am hoping to spend August filling my freezer of sauces and bakes and soups for once I rtw. Hmm Not bloody baking in this weather though.

Hope O feels better soon detective I have hay fever and it's an arse. I only developed it when I moved back to the countryside after having lived in big cities for years. For some reason this year it hasn't been as bad as previous years so I am hoping I have been building up my immunity.

MissMummy1 · 08/07/2013 15:31

I have written a not very diplomatic letter just to get my thoughts out. I won't send it though...

BigPigLittlePig · 08/07/2013 16:01

Send it mm! She has hardly been diplomatic herself.

Nursery was fine, F was enchanted by all the other babies. She's the youngest there, but I think she likes to people watch so it suits her just fine, sitting immobile amongst the Oscars of the county Grin.

Det I think F has hayfever - same as O, whenever it gets hot, she is frantically rubbing her eyes and nose. It isn't tiredness, and I can't see what else it could be. And she already has eczema, which goes hand in hand...who knows.

It's 31 degrees here Shock Boy am I glad to be at home and not at work!

daisychain76 · 08/07/2013 16:34

Interesting about hayfever. H has rred eyes and runny nose and l suspected that. Shame you can?t give honey under one as local honey seems to help the older dcs.

Too hot for me today. Just been on the mumsnet Christmmas bargains thread and ended up doing half my cristmas shopping Smile

TheDetective · 08/07/2013 17:23

Back from GP's. With a bottle of Piriton well, some cheap version!.

I said 'I'm not going to fanny about, I think he has hayfever, and yes I know they say babies don't get hayfever because they have to be exposed to the allergen more than once, but look at his face, look at his eyes, he looks terrible'. And she nodded and said, how about some Piriton?

Yes please!

He's asleep now though Hmm so can't give him any.

When should I give it hayfever sufferers? Morning? Should I give it on high pollen days only?

Will see if it helps first obvs, as no point if it does jack shit!

PetiteRaleuse · 08/07/2013 17:26

I take mine in the evening as it helps me sleep, and too drowsy to drive.

Good that you got seen and sorted without a quibble..

PetiteRaleuse · 08/07/2013 17:28

Oh, and I take it when I have had a bad day of it.

He might not get it every year; maybe once acclimatising to whatever sets it off he will have less reaction.

TheDetective · 08/07/2013 17:33

Hoping it is just me being paranoid Grin.

I'll give him a dose tonight then at bed. Will not give preemptive calpol, so I can see if it helps him.

Fingers crossed it doesn't bother him next year. :)

YellowWellies · 08/07/2013 18:08

Detective I'd give it at night but never with calpol - as both cause drowsiness / deeper sleep and giving both together would be a SIDS risk.

We've had a day in the paddling pool. Jonas likes to splash his older cousins who were v restrained in not returning the favour too violently! Smile Can the weather be like this all summer - compared to the island I feel like I'm in the tropics.

I've mad a sag gosht for tea - I wonder if the bear will like curry!

MM The whole 'bad' baby thing is inexcusable from a parent but given SIL hasn't got kids my bet is she is just talking from ignorance (out of her arse) and shock at how difficult it was to soothe a stressed baby. Lesson learned for me - folks without kids can't handle feeding, bathing, dressing and putting a baby to bed. They might think they can but it's too much responsibility for someone who doesn't have regular contact with a baby. I'd not be mad at her for not coping - I couldn't have handled the responsibility before Jonas but I'd be mad at her for not calling me back sooner. I would be fine with someone without kids sitting once he's asleep but only if they called with any worries. I only did a bedtime once for my sister's boy and that was an emergency (his parents were with his sister in the NICU) it was late, tearful and messed up his routine - as hard as I tried the poor little dude was disoriented. I could do it now as I'm a mum so know what to expect and he sees me every day so wouldn't freak out. I'd chalk it off to experience and drop her from the babysitter list.

YellowWellies · 08/07/2013 18:08

Also happy to host the nun / haggis conference Grin

Pikz · 08/07/2013 18:25

Can you all dress up as either a nun or a haggis too please? Grin

Lily311 · 08/07/2013 19:08

det I take mine in the morning and usually takes one week to get effect. I only take it in April, I only seem to suffer than. This year I tried Propolis which is a natural substance collected by homey bees from buds and trees and they worked much better than any other antihistamine.

MadameGazelleIsMyMum · 08/07/2013 19:24

The heat can fuck off now. That is all.

Passmethecrisps · 08/07/2013 19:40

Eaurgh! I am sweaty and smelly an sticky. And only some of that is from the heat. P has covered me in a variety k substances today. I rocked the shellybobbs look round Waitrose with a big stain on some unknown substance right on my boob.

I have just been ironing upstairs which have been the hot and sweaty icing on the sticky icky cake!

DH brought home a fan tonight though. I have positioned it just outside P's bedroom door so hopefully it is keeping the air circulating. I have closed her window as last night the noise of children in gardens and people outside went on until 11pm. I don't want to spend the evening scowling at the sound of children enjoying themselves so it makes sense just to shut it. With the blackout blind it doesn't let much air in anyway.

Isn't it weird how quickly you adjust though? Normally, if the baby monitor flashes 23 oC I get worried. I just looked at it now and thought "ah well, 26oC, not too bad"

PurplePidjin · 08/07/2013 19:43

Hayfever is a bitch. Dp gets it, started a few years ago HmmAngry

R has had 4 naps today - 30 after breakfast (normal) 1 1/2 on dp before lunch (normally 30 minutes after boob on me, so a spectacular achievement!) and 45 each on the way to and from the next town to meet a friend for icecream :o he never normally sleeps like that, so I'm very pleased with him.

And peppered rib eye steak was a hit sooked to death for tea Blush

YellowWellies · 08/07/2013 20:09

PP how's your leg?

YellowWellies · 08/07/2013 20:15

BP glad to hear F luffed the nursery. Is this the meadow one? Are you going to send her there do you reckon?

kirrinIsland · 08/07/2013 20:22

GT you have my sympathies - being pregnant in this weather cannot be much fun at all.

MM I'd be sending the letter staying well away if I were you. Who blames a baby for being bad?! She should just admit it was too much for her and that she should have called you back sooner.

Glad nursery went well BPLP Must be a relief to have found somewhere you are happy with.

Enjoy your hols stunt :)

Right, it's 20:20 and both my girls are asleep. This is unheard of. Bed time has been a nightmare in this house for a while. I would like to plonk my arse on the sofa for the evening but sadly I have too much to do. Best I crack on.

TheDetective · 08/07/2013 20:23

Piriton is supposed to make the darlings fuckers sleep.

Oscar, as per, is doing the absolute opposite!

Well. He isn't now, as he is asleep. But fucking hell he fought it, then he woke up as my foot made it to the last step of freedom on the stairs.

I have a headache from the heat!

I concur. Heat fuck off now! Pleasant days stay. Sticky fucking wet heat, DO ONE!

BigPigLittlePig · 08/07/2013 20:28

YW this is indeed the meadow one Grin This morning, they all went out into the meadow, the older kids played hide and seek whilst the younger ones chilled ate the grass. This afternoon, the babies were in the paddling pool to cool down, and happily playing with toys. It is a lovely, lovely nursery, and the staff are so nice - they engage really well with the children, as opposed to the other nursery where it was a bit more "plonk the child next to the toy and hope for the best".

Pidj I think the heat has knocked the stuffing out of our LOs. Certainly has out of me! Lots of naps here today too.

So....the CM has still not given me back my money. She said she would get it back to me "in a few days". This was 5 days ago. Just tried to phone and got put through to an answerphone Hmm. Madaaaaam - you might get to get all bad-ass before too long Grin. Seriously though, I have to pay the nursery a hefty sum, for July & August, and I can't even pay a bit of it without the CM returning the dosh. Nursery are v understanding, but still, I feel a bit bad.
