Brilliant on the babysitter hons!

JumpJockey · 10/09/2013 21:31

Ow! Have a stinking headache, E decided that she didn't want her nappy on at bedtime and gave me a massive kick on the bridge of my nose - brought her foot down so hard she managed to bend my glasses frame! Total tooth-shaker of a kick. I remember S going through a moderately violent phase (with us, not with other children) just before she moved up to last room at nursery, so similar age to this, but lordy she's a strong kid :(

beans37 · 10/09/2013 21:46

Ouch Jump!
Jam, I wouldn't be happy about tv watching either...

Arti, that name fills me with joy... Did she take her husband's name when she married?

Rubena · 10/09/2013 21:56

Arti - that's way funnier than a pilot I once worked with (many times) called Richard Head - also for real (I know there are many joke ones) but he would insist on being called the shortened version

Rubena · 10/09/2013 21:57

hope the nose is ok in the morn JJ!

sybilfaulty · 10/09/2013 22:09

My mum is Frances and in the fifties, she was known as Fanny. Oh dear.

JJ, hope the head is OK. I hate the bashes which feel like they are putting my teeth in jeopardy.

Jam, I'll look at the TV watching thing in a sec. I sort of feel any TV going down should be in the comfort on my own home rather than on school time....

sybilfaulty · 10/09/2013 22:18

Its very early to be getting the TV out though, isn't it? I haven't seen HH, only read some of the books, but I think it would be above M. He is a child of simple needs. A bit of Ben 10 on the other hand....

At my school they do occasionally watch Numberjacks (possibly the programme with the lowest production values ever made since about 1995) but that tends to be towards the end of term when they are all ill or exhausted. In reception end of the day is for story time and in Y1 it was when the redoubtable teacher heard them read. 6 kids per day in the last 25 mins. The others did silent reading on the carpet. I probably would ask why they are watching TV and if it is going to happen again at the end of school. Think it can be done quite cheerily without implying criticism so I am sure you won't offend them.

DD1's teacher makes them shake hands at the end of the day and say "good afternoon Mr X" and then pass a pleasantry about the evening! It's the Marcia Blaine School removed to a state primary in SE London!

Rubena · 11/09/2013 07:07

Yes I'd go with Sybs advise and raise it in that way. It will get the query across without rocking the boat with the villagers.
Baby yet beans? Grin

Rubena · 11/09/2013 07:07

Duh advice.

beans37 · 11/09/2013 08:03

Yes, that's a good idea. Just raise it cheerily, but then they know you're not that happy about it etc. and watching them!!

No baby yet. But it doesn't stop me lying awake for 2 hrs a night wondering if its going to come. Bleugh. Too tired!

Vagolajahooli · 11/09/2013 08:44

Bleurgh droopy eyed here. Ds2 has a bit of a cough and must have woke with it and come into us sometime in the night. I was stuck between him and DH, very little proper sleep so I'm all headachey and sleepy. Plus I was already tired from cycling both boys in the trailer through some evil head winds and rain to get them to music lessons. At one point I was in 2nd gear and still having to stand up to ride the bike to make it move. Most people were getting off their bikes and walking. The wind was so bad it knocked a tree down into a top floor window up the road from us. Oh well it's all good for my legs. I was so wet and cold when I got home I couldn't even face a cold gin & tonic. I had to go for hot chocolate with disaronno.

Arti that name nearly made me wet myself.

Sybs montessori kids have to shake their teachers hand and say good morning or good afternoon (depending on whether they are coming into class or leaving) everyday. I think it's a lovely thing to do. Now both boys when they meet a new adult friend of ours will say hello and shake their hand.

Number jacks haha ds1 loved that. Even more because it was filmed right were we lived in London so we used to walk past where spooky spoon used to freak people out.

We've gotten confirmation that our boys will be able to go to the school we have chosen in Australia! Woot Woot. Now the (very long) count down begins.

Vag I dont think would bother with all the after school stuff if I had to cycle everywhere. emotion

Beans how is baby watch you popped it out yet?

Thanks for all the advice. I was beginning to think I was unreasonable for getting pissed off about them watching tv. I was having a chat this am with the teacher about something else and tagged on to the end of the convo. "oh have they been watching HH??" Her "yes" Then she went on to say they had been watching octonauts but that she had taken that DVD home and this was all she had left. But she understood that HH was really a programme I wasn't happy they were watching. Sadly she didn't get the hint that she shouldn't be showing them cartoons. But hey ho at least HH is off the viewing schedule.

JJ hows the nose this morning?

ShadyLadyT · 11/09/2013 11:33

I am not quite keeping up cos Mum's still here but she's off home tonight. It's been lovely. But tiring. Though that is my fault, my Mum is very low maintenance but I just fret and won't let her do anything.

Haven't checked your fred Jammy but even before I do, I think they should be having a story not the box. Even if it's something like Alphablocks which I think is very good. Show Me Show Me is my real favourite but DD1 is getting too old now Sad What's HH? I need to check.

Back tomorrow probably (unless I can sneak on tonight). Bon chance, Beans!

Mckayz · 11/09/2013 11:55

I am really missing DS2. It's really weird as he went to playschool and nursery so I am used to him being away. I stopped working when he was 18 months old and now he's almost 5 and at school properly.

Thank god for DD.

JamInMyWellies · 11/09/2013 12:38

Funny you should say that Kayz a friend and I had the exact same convo yesterday. As much as we were vv happy to see them off to school its a real change. I would imagine it could become quite lonely. Makes me realise how social our lives were with DS2 at home. As much as I always said I dont want to work and am happy being a SAHM if I didnt have No3 cooking I am sure I would be looking for work or charity stuff or would finally go do the BF course.

JumpJockey · 11/09/2013 12:56

Nose ok, bit of a bruise and have managed to bend my specs back again. Sigh...
S getting progressively less keen abut school, first day was ok, yesterday she clung to my sleeve, today was two hands and had to be peeled off by teacher. Therer's a bit of a bottleneck at the classroom door as they have to stop and getvtheir name badges on, so she got nervous at that point esp as another child was crying - not easy to get away. Fingers crossed it gets easier... Dh doing crop off tomorrow so will see how she is for him. She's generally looking a bit anxious about it and throwing some excellent wobblies at home, neighbour said that with bth of hers their behaviour went noticeably downhill at home because of all the having to sit still for story time etc at home, so at least we're forwarned!

Vag does that mean you're def going back to Oz?

In agreement over the school tv thing, surely it's a bit much when they're this new to it. Ok, we getbhome and switch in beebies, but that's home not school!

beans37 · 11/09/2013 16:18

Not popped yet. Sigh. So am still on for tomorrow morning, Jam. Text me in the morning just to make sure!!! If you can hold off on breakfast, the cafe I have in mind does amazing American stylee pancakes with syrup, bacon and blueberries... I think I might indulge....

Just been to dentist with girls and all was well. Apparently we should still be brushing their teeth for the, even up until 11 if needs be. She said to let them have a go, then take over and do it round and round, not sideways. I did not know that. I brush mine too hard.

I would like to go to bed. DDs watching telly, the little angels. DD1 still loving school, but she is getting very tired. And they finish at 1.15 this week. Next week could be interesting... DD2 wept constantly after her Playgroup yesterday. I think she's finding her longer days quite hard. Oh dear.

I have even cleaned insides of cupboards today.

JumpJockey · 11/09/2013 16:19

Beans, you are so about to have your baby!

Rubena · 11/09/2013 16:24

Oh cmon LittleBeans! Zzzzz Wink
I hear you on the tired school kiddies. DS is a shambles this afternoon.
Had to take him to dd's swimming lesson, and he was not thrilled. Still liking school, but super tired, and getting up too early. DD on the other hand, I've had to wake in the morns - today at 750!
Follow up physio was good today, and I can slooooowly get back to it.

JamInMyWellies · 11/09/2013 17:12

Beans if you are cleaning out cupboards I fully expect a text to say don't come. Although a full on breakfast I might go anyway.

Rubes glad to hear the knee is on the mend.

Honsandrevels · 11/09/2013 17:50

Oooh Beans, cleaning the inside of the cupboards must mean baby is almost here!

Dd had her first morningat school today. Dd2 and I missed her so much. The three of us have always been together apart from when both girls were in nursery 2 days while I work. It'll be nice to spend time just with dd2 and things she enjoys though.

beans37 · 11/09/2013 17:51

Sorry for the long boring wait! Honestly, after the excitement of my show (sort of!), I'm feeling a bit deflated. Although not literally as am enormous.

Total result, the girls requested boiled eggs and soldiers for their supper. And then a biscuit for pudding. Happy days! Although will force some fruit down them too as a gesture of healthiness.

Have just made a salmon and spinach bake for DH and me for supper. Interested what it tastes like! Although feeling a bit sick now having been egged up to the eyeballs. There is hard boiled egg in the salmon dish too. Luckily I do like eggs!

beans37 · 11/09/2013 17:53

Hons, cross posted. I know what you mean about them missing each other. I'm at a bit of a loose end without either DD as they entertain each other so well and I'm not half as fun as each other!

Ho hum.

Tap tap tap tap tap.

beans37 · 11/09/2013 17:54

(That's impatient finger tapping, by the way!)

Rubena · 11/09/2013 18:02

Yum Beans can I have the recipe? I Love salmon and love Spinach. Going to have salmon tonight as I had earlier cooked some beef and decided it smelled rank (not sure but a bit whiffy) so the dog is having slow cooked beef with her broccoli stalks and dog biscuits [happy]
