I'll have him Deids!

Pishing down with rain here, yuk.

Beans super excited about the show woot woot.

Poor ds1 this afternoon. He sometimes gets a little home work sent home and today he got a list of words he had to read in set amount of time. It was 30 words all at least 2 syllables. I read the instructions wrong and thought he had to read them all in 30 seconds. So had him on a timer etc first go he only got through 15 words so we kept going and slowly he increased it until he finally he was saying ths last words right on the 30 seconds alarm. Then I looked at the instructions again and I'd gotten them wrong. He was only supposed to read through them all in 1 min oops

Vag that is really quite funny - I can picture that! Poor kid sweating it out thinking it's impossible!
So glad it was a good day Deids!
Any baby yet Beans?

Rubena · 09/09/2013 19:03

ds v happy again too. waiting at pick up and one of the mums asked me ds's name and said her son was talking about him at home that ds is his new friend Smile the kid also said ds's mummy is very tall!! Lol which is why she thought it was me - not like I'm some amazon woman! And it wasn't Charlie, but I'm rapt he's making friends.
Was nice to have an afternoon with him like you said Vag, so we went to Tesco etc shopping, had lunch then picked up dd later and then they started fighting like mad, about who put on their seat belts the fastest (not uncommon) but after a quick lecture and a pulling over of the car, he calmed down (he was quite furious at her for not believing that he won) and has been pleasant again!

Rubena · 09/09/2013 19:17

Keep posting as on phone.
Oops dh home. Better go as kids waiting up.,..

Artijoke · 09/09/2013 19:29

Yay to a good first day for Deiedsboy and another good day for miniRubes. DD2 had a good day after crying again at drop. She did however ask how many more days she has to go to school for and whether she is half way there.

Artijoke · 09/09/2013 19:34

Did I tell you guys that DH has a new job? It means he will regularly travel to major war zones. He is so excited. I am so not. I get to solo parent and go mad with worry at the same time. Fun!

Any news post-show Beanz?

DD1 still not back from gymnastics. She's been moved up a level in her club and her new practice time is Mon 5.30-7pm which seems pretty late to me. She is also joining a new swim team which meets Weds 7-8pm. Thank god I'm getting an au pair! She starts Sunday which is scary. No more privacy on this house.

beans37 · 09/09/2013 19:56

Lovely news on all the schooling. DD1 loved it again and also told me about her lunch. Apparently she had jelly. I asked her about her main course and for her 'main pudding' she had something that was long and also round and small.ive drawn a blank. But she wasn't hungry when she got home, which is a good sign.

Nothing since the show. Very dull. Just waiting for DH to get off the phone to his sister so we can eat my lovingly prepared take away curry!! Hoping it might bring it on. I just can't stop peeing though! Aaaagh! Driving me insane! Have got through a whole loo roll upstairs and another one downstairs too. It's nuts!

Rubena · 09/09/2013 20:14

Aww I was sure that was going to be a post pushing from your living room floor beans! Hopefully the curry will help it get moving.
That's great news Arti glad she had a nice day. I get the business with after school activities and I only have 2! One if which pre-school but already asking about ballet.

Mckayz · 09/09/2013 20:20

Ds2 had a good first morning. All his nursery friends wanted to know why he had stitches so he was showing off his battle scar.

DS1 starts swimming lessons tomorrow after sch

Mckayz · 09/09/2013 20:23

I really need to stop posting from my phone.

He starts swimming lessons after school and he really doesn't want to go. I'm hoping that he'll enjoy it once he's there.

JumpJockey · 09/09/2013 20:38

Arti cripes about the job, how scary. How exciting about dd1's gym club - 1.5 hours does seem a lot for a young one on a school night though, quite agree on that.

So many lovely stories about school! S was fine in the end, said she loves it all and they played a great game with the TA at break time.

Beans, trying to work out what that food might be?! They can still be so confusing, we nearly had a row with S who was standing at the top of the stairs refusing ti let anyone through "you need to say the password". Normally she makes up a hugely long password so I asked her what it was, she said it was the password you give when you're on holiday. Lots of toing and froing later we worked out she actually meant passport.

Vag you're such a slave driver!

JumpJockey · 09/09/2013 20:40

Oh and thanks all for the tea ideas - will def be getting a microwave, it's not that I have deep-seated snobbish issues about them Wink just that there's not much space on the worksurface in new kitchen. Will be off to argooos to look for compact models. Pizza siunds like a to plan, did my usual fallback of noodles-peas-sweetcorn-egg which they eat with "nippers" stolen from Yo Sushi Grin

Vagolajahooli · 09/09/2013 20:47

Hey Arti ds1 has gymnastics on a Monday & Friday 5-7pm. I give him a simple tea as soon as he gets home from school then a very quick porridge pudding as soon as he gets home (dh picks him at 7pm they are usually home after faffing with getting changed etc at about 7.20pm). Then a quick shower book & bed. At worst he is in bed by 8.10pm. 7-8 is late for swimming, we have the opposite with swimming a 45 min cycle away at 8.30am on a Saturday for an hour. It's not really too tiring for ds1 as he loves gymnastics and swimming and is at an age where he has boundless energy. But it is hard on ds2 who has to come with me to drop ds1 off and has to come to ds1's violin class on a Tuesday. But it is getting easier, ds2 will be learning recorder now with ds1's violin teacher so he gets something out of the trek into town.

Artijoke · 09/09/2013 20:54

Yes the clubs are a nightmare. DD1 also does violin Veg, plus three long hours of dance on a Saturday but thankfully that ones on our street. Poor DD2 really wants to do gymnastics and choir but I'm putting it off as I can't stand more clubs. She does do swimming though.

Good news about little JJ's first day. Our stock kids' dinners for school nights are omlettes, bolognaise (batch cooked, frozen, microwaved), carbonara (so quick!), chicken korma (batch cooked etc), salmon steaks and new potatoes, pizzas and lastly rice and veg.

Vagolajahooli · 09/09/2013 20:59

Oh cross posted.

Kayz ds2 was like that before he started swimming.

Arti forgot to add that is hard on the war zone thing. I have a friend with a dh who works for the dutch foreign office going in to try to sort out ishoos in countries with dodgy civil stuff going on. She just tries not to think about it. No idea how.

JJ I also meant to second the cheesy pasta and spag bog done en mass to feeze later. I sometimes reheat the cheesy pasta as a pasta bake in the oven with salmon. My boys are also fans of chicken sate (marinaded in simple soy sauce or sweet soy), which is also something that can be prepared and frozen then thrown in the oven for a quicky. I csn also recommend buying a cheap rice cooker as its a quick easy way to get their carbs sorted. We have rice with chicken sate, curried sausages even soup. Whatever I can cook they will eat rice with it. Oh another quicky is any left over bits (sauces, cheesy stuff from cheesy pasta or even just some left over veg) can be thrown in some ready rolled puff pastry. I wrap them up to look like a little square present and call them....presents.

Ds1 used to have three hours of Chinese school on a Saturday but now dh does little chinese lessons at home with him. Since gymnastics got upped (he also has a three hour extra group once a month) we realised something had to go, not so much for him, but me! He now has a fortnightly violin group lesson on a Saturday (moved from Friday cos the gym class got in the way) but not too bad as it's just up the road. I think as long as the classes are close or at least a nice cycle away it's not too bad. That manic cycle from ds2's swimming to ds1's basketball has finished. I would still like him to do bball as he loved it but might wait til next spring.

Rubena · 10/09/2013 12:53

Vag, I actually can't follow your posts! I'd need a PA to run your household!

Rubena · 10/09/2013 12:56

wait until you move home Vag, you'll get a break! I find that although my db's kids do LOADS of activites, everyone just has no sense of urgency and it still feels slow.

Honsandrevels · 10/09/2013 13:55

Hello everyone,

Deids I'm reading the Faraway Tree to dd at the mo. Is Fanny called Fanny in the modern version do you know? I cringe when reading.

JJ We don't have a microwave either. I must admit that on my working days the dds get a hot lunch at nursery (dd1 at school from next week) so tea isn't a proper meal. Sandwiches, beans on toast, boiled eggs, pasta with cottage cheese. I thought this was normal till I saw a MN thread on children having two cooked meals a day! On non work days we eat proper meals together.

beans37 · 10/09/2013 15:24

Very humiliating moment. Parking for picking up the kids is quite tight, so you have to get out of the way for cars coming past. I was buckling up both girls, so just climbed in the car to do up their seat belts and the rear door closed behind me. Forgot it was on child lock,so cue 38 weeks + pregnant woman trying to do gymnastic climbing into front of car and into driver's seat. Very uncomfortable and took ages! Thankfully no one saw! Just have squished the baby totally! Poor little mite. It's gone very quiet now!

Need chocolate.

JamInMyWellies · 10/09/2013 17:46

Girls how would you feel about this. As we are all new parents I would really value your input. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/1848827-A-WWYD-AIBU-reception-class-query-vote

Rubena · 10/09/2013 18:35

that's a classic beans! I can see me doing that. Squished baby, and still it doesn't come out Grin
Just back from mini teacher meeting. All sounds really good. Teacher is lovely.
Jam have had a read / comment. Is it just a warm down thing? Ours have stories at the end of the day, but I wouldn't really be bothered about TV, although I'm pretty relaxed about ahem, tv watching Blush I'd see if it's just until they are all settled then speak up from there if it continues and bothers you.

DeidreBarlow · 10/09/2013 18:41

Hons fanny is now Frannie!!

Beans you loon that sounds most uncomfortable. Hope your ok!!

Jam, tbh I don't get why they are watching TV, even if it is the end if the day. DSs class usually have carpet time at the end of a day ( when he does a full day). Which may involve a story or the class talking about the work they've been doing and then as its a church school a quick prayer!Wink IME tv is usually saved for rainy lunchtimes or end if term treats. I'd ask the teacher if its a temp thing or a part if their day? Also I loathe HH Angry. Really I could throw stuff at the tv when it's on. I also think that it's not age appropriate for Reception kids...Yr2 + possibly. I would certainly ask if there was another cartoon they could watch. Surely Alpha blocks or something although irritating would be more suitable?

Honsandrevels · 10/09/2013 19:45

Frannie! That's an improvement!

Beans I've locked myself in the back before but thankfully not when pregnant. Well done for managing to get out.

Jam I've posted on your thread. I'd be a surprised and expect books.

We tried out the babysitter at the weekend. Girls were fast asleep and we went to the cinema. Will def use her again!

Artijoke · 10/09/2013 20:02

I have a friend called F anny and she recently married and got the last name Foo. No kidding.
