Hi all, I'm fine, I've been sunning myself in Majorca. We've had a lovely time, just what was needed. I have my scan on Friday so I'm back to worrying hoping everything's ok!!

beady how awful, I hope Ediths feeling better, that must've been so scary.

Belated happy birthdays Jacob, Isobel and Lucy. Ollys is the 31st. As for balance bikes, we got Toby one for his 3rd birthday when he already had one with pedals. It's sat in the shed and never been used. He just kept saying it had no pedals.

Debs75 · 19/08/2013 21:26

Hi Lumpy how was Majorca? I went 22 years ago and loved it I would love to take the DC's but don't think I could afford it for many a moon.

I think balance bikes only work really well if you get one before they try a proper bike. DD2 loves hers and whizzes all over. Lucy really wants a go so will be getting it after DD2 gets her new pedal bike in September.

lumpylumps · 21/08/2013 20:07

Majorca was fab debs we'll definately go back but it won't be for a while now!!!

I've just filled 20 sweet cones ready for the boys party on Sunday. They look fab even if I do say so myself!! I've cut out the steam for pin the steam on the Thomas and dh has sorted the catapult for the angry birds game!! It's all coming together, just an angry bird cake and a Thomas cake to make!!

Olly has just suddenly got all brave. I can't believe the change in him over the last 2 months. He swam in the sea on holiday, went on all the rides at the fair on Monday and even went for a ride on my dads tractor yesterday. He's all 3 all of a sudden!!!

Debs75 · 21/08/2013 20:29

It's lovely watching them grow older and copy their bigger siblings but heartbreaking to realise they are not our babies anymore

Is Olly starting nursery in September?

He's been going since he was 1 debs cos I went back to work. I'm actually going to be doing things backwards tho cos when I go on mat leave I'm going to be reducing his hours back to just 10 hrs a week!!

cinnamongreyhound · 23/08/2013 09:01

Make sure you fill us in on the scan lumpylumps :)

Hi girls, scan was great. I'd convinced myself something was wrong so cried when I saw it!!! Everything seems ok. The report does say placenta appears to be over os, check at 20 weeks. Is that low lying?? I've also got to have an extra scan at 32 weeks to check it's growth cos I'm under weight!!! Edd 6th March.

cinnamongreyhound · 24/08/2013 07:54

Yay! congratulations, i was the samd with Luke convinced it was bad news. I googled it, that means its over the opening to the cervix (os). Underweight as in your bmi is under 18.5 or is there an alternative when pregnant?

OP posts:
lumpylumps · 24/08/2013 08:17

Yeah, my bmi was 17 at my 1st appt so they go on that. I got dietary advice and asked if a had an eating disorder which made everyone at work laugh cos I eat like a pig!!!

newmum001 · 24/08/2013 19:43

The terrible twos are in full swing at our house, anyone else being driven insane with it? Smacking, kicking and high pitched screaming have become the norm this week. I'm exhausted!

Lumpy great news on the scan!

Debs75 · 24/08/2013 20:39

Lucy seems to be having terrible threes. She is more opinionated and snappy then she has ever been. I think the 6 weeks holiday has been enough for her. We haven't done a lot as I have been on call so I can't plan anything concrete. We are all looking forward to having some routine back when school starts. DD2 will be out five days a week and Lucy will do 3 full mornings so hopefully bedtimes will get easier.

Lumpy is your bmi very low? I am at the other end of the scale so not sure what underweight is. Personally if you are healthy with a good appetite and fitness levels forget bmi's

lumpylumps · 24/08/2013 20:51

17 debs I've always been underweight. I think they're worried that it's due to an eating disorder or poor diet that will have a negative effect on baby. In the midwives words "we keep an eye on our larger ladies, we do the same for our smaller ones!"

Boys party tomorrow. Cakes all made, I'm very proud myself. The boys think they're great. Told them about the baby, olly was more interested in his shreddies, Tobys really excited!!

cinnamongreyhound · 25/08/2013 07:16

But they should know from previous pregnancies that you've been underweight? You did say a while ago that you weren't able to eat properly at work so perhaps that has contributed? I hated the fuss they made when I had Luke, I personally just like to blend into the background and don't want special treatment. It annoyed me that they did t monitor through pregnancy just took it from that one moment in time! Didn't matter I was less at full term than on booking appt.

Enjoy the party, glad Toby is excited ds1 asks for a sister all the time. He even makes plans about who's going to sleep where! Luke copies but I think that's because he copies most things his big brother does/says. He'd hate a baby I'm sure!

lumpylumps · 25/08/2013 07:22

I'm only 4lb lighter than when I fell pregnant with the boys!!! guess that 4lb is the difference. The mw was quite happy when I told her the weights of the boys but the Dr still recommended an extra scan. I don't mind that. I've never had one past 20wks so it'll be quite nice!

newmum001 · 25/08/2013 07:48

My sister in law had loads of scans towards the end of her pregnancy cause the placenta was blocking the exit (bit of a grim way of putting it I know but don't know the medical term lol) but aside from the medical complications she loved having loads of late scans, my mum went with her and said they were so clear cause the baby was fully grown. I wouldn't worry about them monitoring you tbh, fair enough you're slim but you know you haven't got an eating disorder etc so just let them crack on with it if they want.

cinnamongreyhound · 25/08/2013 09:03

I had two extra with Luke 32 and 36 weeks was lovely, we could see him drinking the amniotic fluid in one :)

OP posts:
Debs75 · 25/08/2013 21:34

I have had extra with the girls as well. Robyns was to check if she was going to be a huge baby, which she wasn't. They did check this the day they were inducing me which seemed a bit late. Lucys was to check growth as I had gd. Glad they did as she had not grown between the last two so she had to be induced early as well. It was nice seeing them but with Lucy I didn't want to know the sex so I had to look away a lot.

SilverBirdie · 26/08/2013 20:22

Great news that scan went well lumps Smile
Come on then party people..... Have you got any cake pictures to share! Jack wants Ice Age this year..... I'm at a loss!

lumpylumps · 26/08/2013 21:02

My cake pics are on Facebook!!! Have you googled ice age cakes??

cinnamongreyhound · 26/08/2013 21:03

I don't have photos as its not made yet but I'm doing a bat with a batman symbol (buying it as a bake topper) in the middle. I've asked a local cake making lady what colouring she uses as I'm never happy with my colours, so have bought it but that's as far as I've got!

OP posts:
Debs75 · 26/08/2013 21:19

Cinnamon Batman is easy it's just basically black and yellow. I would do the cake in white fondant and then paint it with a wilton paste colour diluted with a smidge of vodka, it doesn't soak into to the fondant as bad as water. Cut out an oval of yellow fondant and place in centre of cake then cut out the bat shape paint black and when dry place on top of yellow circle.

Lumpy your cakes looked ace I aren't that adventurous, If it can't be piped on or made in a mould I panic. I would love to try carving cakes but struggle at that. I am going to practice with a pumpkin cake for our Halloween Ball so fingers crossed

cinnamongreyhound · 26/08/2013 21:28

I usually use butter cream and its hard to colour as liquid tends to curdle it and the powders just aren't dark enough. We are cutting out the bat and then doing the symbol with an icing topper that will be printed with edible icing, I've also ordered the words in white that we will put on the wings. I used fondant icing for ds1's 2nd birthday cake which was igglepiggle and painted it but I prefer the flavour of buttercream :)

OP posts:
newmum001 · 26/08/2013 23:08

I'm having mine made as I do every year, I have a friend who has a cake making business and she's so talented and I have zero imagination. We're having a "nature cake" cause grace is really into bugs and creepy crawlies.

Debs75 · 27/08/2013 21:17

I prefer buttercream to fondant as well cinnamon Can you find thepaste colours to tint the icing, they work better. You are still going to struggle with the black though. Alternatively how about this proper fondant You just mix it like icing sugar and it is thicker more like on a bakewell tart topping. It can be tricky to get right and I do tend to try to make it more liquidy then it should be but it tastes lovely and looks good
