I feel a little bit bad about starting this thread just now as there have been heartbreaking stories on mumsnet over the past couple of days. Ladies our thoughts are with you.

This antenatal club is particularly special, as after a long difficult nine months for all of us we are now the lucky ones who get to hold our beautiful little babies. There are lots of challenges ahead for us, of course. but hopefully we can all continue to offer support , advice and friendship during the more happy times

Hello everyone

All the best Glimmer for lovely birth

How is everyone else? I've been really really down the last week - real emotional rollercoster. CMV was detected in Joel's urine following a routine investigation for prolonged jaundice. Its a virus that can have devestating consequences depending upon when it was caught (how early in pregnancy) and whether or not the mother had immunity to it.

Signs are all good at the moment - normal head CT scan, normal liver and spleen function, normal blood count, normal eyes - he was normal bithweight and doesn't have a small head so chances are he will be absolutely fine and unaffected by this.

Feel shattered and exhausted by all the tests and anxiety though. Like my babymoon has been well and truly shat on. I have a child with multiple disabilities already and it makes me sad to think I am going to be watching Joel like a hawk for any signs of damage.

And after all my paranoia in pregnancy as well.. and the irony of him to have escaped a chromo abnormality only to come into contact with some sodding infection. Though am trying really hard not to dwell on this and just enjoy my lovely little boy

Love to everyone x

cheers firststar. i know i should not dwell on scary what ifs and just go with it. Am getting on dh's nerves!

eek that's gone quick for you. It is just horrible going back to work innit? Tho last time round i did like and get into it after a couple of months (wahey was being paid to fanny about on mumsnet ) Hope it pans out like that for you

PurpleLostPrincess · 14/11/2007 13:02

ejb, I know what you mean about the babymoon being well and truly shat on - Cerys had a colostomy at three days old which was a week in hospital and they detected a heart condition which ended up in her having heart surgery last week too! I feel well and truly exhausted both physically and mentally let alone emotionally. I know they have fixed her now but I feel as if she is so fragile and the changes in her mean that we're starting all over again - its like bringing home a newborn baby all over again but she's 10 weeks old already!

firststar, hope you find a way to cope with working, it must be so hard. I really admire you - I went back to work within DS and DD1's first year but I'm not sure if I'll be able to do it this time around...

ejb - so glad that the signs are good so far, I know what you mean about being on the lookout for problems - I watch Cerys like a hawk now! DH got upset when we got home because he feels like we've got a 'broken baby' but he soon apologised because he'd rather have her than the worst happen of course.

On a more positive note, we're getting lots of smiles and coo's which makes all the horrible stuff melt away!

Mumpbump · 21/11/2007 10:11

Hello!!! Am very tied up with babies at the moment. Ds1 is at home 4 days a week (in nursery today!) and is very active, then we have 4 children at the weekends with my dsc being here and Joseph has a two hour crying spell pretty much every evening at the end of which I usually head for bed so am not managing to post much at all!! Hope everyone is well. Am off to see if I can find Glimmer's birth story as it sounds like she has had her baby - don't like this new page format! - but will say congratulations here in case I get called away by ds2.

Glimmer announces birth of baby-spark Noam Jakob on 27/11/2007 at 42+0. He is adorable, Glimmer on babymoon.

Didn't get the homebirth I had hoped for, since I developed pre-eclampsia at 41+6 diagnosed at day assessment unit, was immediately put on blood-pressure medication, then induced. Thanks to IM, DH and all the preparation for the homebirth I managed to have a natural delivery without pain relief (which was important to me).

Unfortunately, blood pressure still high and at risk for complications, which casts a little shadow over our happiness.

Baby waking up! Thinking of all of you and more in a little while.

PurpleLostPrincess · 03/12/2007 02:19

Congratulations! Welcome to the world Noam! Sorry you didn't get quite the birth you'd planned but hope you enjoy your babymoon and that you don't get any complications xx

Cerys is having her next operation on 11th December but at least we'll be home in time for Christmas!

Hope everybody else is doing well?

Mumpbump · 03/12/2007 19:51

Glimmer - many congratulations! All's well that ends well! Would love to see a piccie of the lo. Would you send one to my hotmail if you don't want to broadcast on the net? Hope bp stabilises and everything works out okay.

PLP - good luck with operation. Hope everything goes okay...

Joe is waking up a bit more now, but still sleeping masses. Turns out he cries quite a lot, but gritting my teeth and hopes that it settles down a bit after he turns 3 months. Hope everyone else is well...

Uki · 04/12/2007 11:29

Hi All

Glimmer- CONGRATULATIONS, you must be over the moon with joy to have your LO here, enjoy these few weeks, they really do grow too fast.

Ejb -big hugs hun, what a worry and stressful time you are having. I feel for you having to have stress again, i had a worry after LL was born and my head was such a mess, his was a take 2 on what my first son had, but thankfully it didn't turn into an operation like his did. Forgive me but, What is CMV??? some sort of viral infection? I hope it little Joel continues to pass his tests and be healthy.

Firstar- sorry to hear your missing your little guy, I worked last week and had to ring up and check on mine all day, it was very weird to be without him, although 4 days isn't too bad and i did enjoy my job, we were well looked after with hot lunches and morning teas and all, I ended up putting on weight there.
Hopefully your job is busy and the days go quick, hopefully Ty is sleeping well too.

mump- you sound busy, my LL is starting to be a little harder to settle to sleep now he is 3.5 months, (they are all so different aren't they)Does Joe have wind or something making him cry?

PLP- what's the op for? poor little Cerys hope she is brave, and so are you.

LL is full of smiles ATM and we have had one or two giggles, He is very good, sleeps really well, and even takes whacks from big brother well, ds is going that route ATM - not good.

PurpleTinselPrincess · 04/12/2007 15:21

Hiya Uki!!! We've had a few giggles here and there too, hope DS1 finds another way to 'play' with his new brother! My DS did a few scary things to DD1 when she came along - I don't envy you!

Its a long story so I'll try to keep it brief (I always say that and then end up writing an essay lol!). Basically, Cerys was born without a hole to poo out of ! The midwife that delivered her didn't notice it and the paediatrician didn't notice it either. When I showed the discharge nurse, she said its probably just very close to the vagina and not to worry about it!!! They let me go home the day after she was born but she wasn't feeding well at all (now we know why!) so she was getting more and more jaundiced. By her third day, the midwife that came to the house suggested she go up to our local hospital to be looked at for the jaundice and for her bottom to be 'assessed'. When we got there, they took one look and then rushed her up to Southampton hospital where she had a colostomy that night as she was very very ill at this point. While she was in, they discovered that she had a heart condition and that she had multiple VSD's (holes) and her PDA hadn't closed over (a tube that closes over usually at birth).

So, we came home and recovered, thinking her next operation would be 7th November but I noticed a few days before that she was getting breathless which turned out to be heart failure, hence the surgery mentioned before...

So, the next operation is a reconstruction to bring the bowel down to her bottom and build an anus to poo out of. She won't be able to use it until her colostomy is reversed 6-8 weeks after this operation.

Sorry, I've give way too much information there, hope I haven't bored you!

hey ladies

just tried "active convs" for the first time ever and found this - lovely to see so many old friends here. just had some friends here for the weekend who have been ttc for a year (although at least with no mc) so my little Torin is now even more precious and huggable today, along with big brother Lorcan

Xxxx in haste, but with love to you all and will post a bit more detail once I've had a mo to catch up with all your news.

PLP, hope your beauiful baby gets on well with the op. take care of yourself too

Sorry for repeated posts!

Hiya T4T, lovely to see you! xx

Mumpbump · 04/12/2007 21:09

Well, I put him down under his baby gym and he started crying when I picked him up so the next time he started crying, I put him down again and he settled down. I think maybe he is just a baby that needs a bit of time out - not surprising with his older brother sticking his face into his all the time to give him kisses... All very nice, but poor Joe is rather harrassed!!

PurpleTinselPrincess · 04/12/2007 23:06

Cerys is the same - sometimes when I can't figure out why she is crying, I put her down on her mat and she starts cooing and is all happy - she just needs to chill!

My 9yr old DD1 can be a bit in her face too and she's a bit sensitive so I have to be careful how I tell her to back off lol! Saying that, Cerys adores her and her face lights up when she sees her.

Uki · 05/12/2007 11:27

Hi Time4tea

We should try and actually keep this thread active, i'm terrible for forgeting about it very different being on this side.

PLP or PTP (love the new name) i'm so sorry to hear all that, i had no idea you were going through so much worry with little Cerys, she must be a tough cookie. you must have been and are worried sick, sounds like she is in good hands though. Give her our love and strength for the op, and a big kiss too, why is it babies are just so kissable

LL has had major development in the last day, can now roll off a bed, unhurt and can take his own socks off.

PurpleTinselPrincess · 06/12/2007 23:38

Thanks Uki, yes it certainly has been an adventurous few months to say the least but we do what we have to I suppose...

Isn't it always the way that babies discover how to roll when they're on a higher surface and we disappear for a few seconds lol! I remember DS doing that when he was tiny and it frightened the life out of me - that thud sound makes your heart jump into your throat doesn't it! Bless LL taking off his little socks, awwww!

Cerys is now rolling onto her side so it won't be long before she's rolling over completely, I'm so proud of her!

Glimmer · 10/12/2007 12:19

Hi Uki, Mump, Firststar and PTP
Ah, it's wonderful to be on the other side and embark on the adventure of motherhood!
It's my first one, so lots of thing to figure out! BP and liver values getting slowly better, should be out of the danger zone by now.
Mump I will send you a picture or load it up to MN once I have thing a little more under control :-) Time is flying your little ones are already so grown up rolling over...

PTP so sorry to hear about Cerys next surgery and all the worries you have. But hopefully they can sort things out and she will be able to have a realively 'normal' life it's great that they can reconstruct her anus!

Much love to you all.

Glimmer · 10/12/2007 12:25

Hi EJB and EJT!

EJB -- Sorry to hear of your worries. Hop you can just hang on a real baby moon?!

Afternoon all,
Not been on for a while -it's been a bit busy gearing up for Christmas. And this year, we've had 2 school plays going on now that DD2's started school! So thought I'd better post something to let you know I'm still here before DDs finish school tomorrow, and they stop me getting on the computer!

Emily's 20 months old now and on Saturday, made it downstairs by herself (thought she was asleep upstairs, heard a noise and thought she was waiting at the top of the stairs, only to find her down in the lounge!) She's also into emptying my kitchen cupboards, so every surface has something on it so that she can't reach! She's very much into an exploring phase now and pulled the Christmas tree on top of herself a few days ago! It was so funny to see her little face looking through all the branches and baubles!

Hope everyone else and their babies are well. I'm off to do a bit more "gearing up" for Christmas.

Mumpbump · 18/12/2007 20:45

PLP - hope that Cerys is recovering well from her surgery!

My preparation for Xmas has been severely derailed by dint of a horrid cold last week so hardly anyone is getting cards from us this year! Dh is also away in USA at the moment and there is no way I am going near the shops with two under two! Hope that you are all faring better and look forward to seeing your beautiful son, Glimmer!

Firststar - I can't believe you're back to work already. How are you feeling about it?

Anyway, happy Christmas to everyone in case I don't make it back on before then...

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 18/12/2007 20:56

hi guys

I've just seen this in active convos, and like oithers keep forgetting about it.

babyboo is doing really well; 28 weeks now and sort of mobile in that she rolls, turns herself on her tummy and rolls again. She can get where she wantsa to be pretty quickly and it is cute to watch. I reckon she'll be crawling before too long. She is a really happy wee sprout too; always laughing and smiling and full of joy....I read somewhere once that stressful pregnancies make for whingy stressed babies....not in my case and I had a very stressful pregnancy!

I'm all right, still off work. I've decided that I'm not going back ; with DH worlking away the kids need some consistency in their wee lives, it would be awful if they never saw either of us except at weekends.

PND improving. I've been signed off by the mother and baby unit, but will be on te ADs for a good bit yet. Still life isn't as hard as it used to be which can only be a GOOD THING!

My mum isn't doing so well sadly and is nearing the end of her life now. We think the cancer has spread into her brain, and today she has been put on IV morphine and a sedative as she has been getting really distressed She had been determined to see out the festive season, but it isn't looking likely. I'm off up there on Thursday for as long as I'm needed.

right, off to do a quick catch up with everyone's news.

I won't be posting much at all in the coming weeks, so have a lovely first Christmas with all those long awaited bundles.

Take Care

Daisy xx
