Is calling you every day not harassment? I only say this because when a colleague of mine called another colleague to ascertain when he was likely to be back at work there were mutterings of this being harassment.

Our rules are that you must call on the first day of sickness and give an estimation of how long you will be absent for. It is seen as good grace to call each morning but not compulsory.

12 days sickness in one year can result in a 'back to work' meeting at the council. This is viewed as essentially a warning shot across your bow.

TheDetective · 17/04/2013 12:07

I'd be interested to find out how this will be viewed. You can't discriminate due to pregnancy (and thus pregnancy related sickness) and this is a direct consequence of pregnancy.

Hmm

I don't think I'll be ringing every day! I might also have my phone cut off through not being able to afford it... I don't have a house phone.

Oh dear...!

TheDetective · 17/04/2013 12:16

Union rang. Awaiting phone call back!

Have lots of questions for them! Rep is going to so hate me.

TheDetective · 17/04/2013 12:16

Where the actual fuck are you all?

TheDetective · 17/04/2013 12:16
Grin
Passmethecrisps · 17/04/2013 12:17

Sounds like a plan.

Where is everyone? Just you and me, babe!

Passmethecrisps · 17/04/2013 12:18

Haha! Great minds think alike

Can we keep the thread in most active just the two of us?

TheDetective · 17/04/2013 12:22

Go for it! Oscar seems to have other ideas!

TheDetective · 17/04/2013 12:23

I can post all day. Same as I can usually talk.

You wouldn't have guessed that, right?!

YellowWellies · 17/04/2013 12:23

I'm here too! I do hope they're not all watching Maggie's funeral - they'll get a withering stare and tut from me Grin

TheDetective · 17/04/2013 12:27

I'm in your camp YW! Am only just old enough to have lived through her, ummmm, shit?

MissMummy1 · 17/04/2013 12:28

I am here!

Sorry I can't be of any help detective. As I work for myself I don't have to answer to anyone anymore. Downside is if I don't go to work, I don't get paid. Swings and roundabouts. Hope union can be of more help.

Speaking of work I have decided I need to buy a tablet. not for mumsnetting Wink Have decided on the Galaxy Tab 2 as it is just a bigger version of my phone and I can get a keyboard dock for it but trying to work out what I would need to be able to print from it. Looks like a new printer. I hate technology.

Thanks for the advice re bf'ing. I want to keep it up - in fact I never wanted to give her formula in the first place - but have come to the conclusion my supply must have been dropping for a while. I have found it harder and harder to express over the past month or so and M has become fussier and fussier. Her lack of sleep and constant desire to snack the main indicators. The change in her with just a couple of bottles is incredible. I think I am going to keep up feeding her myself for as long as I can with a bottle at bedtime, and if we need to switch to formula full time in a week or two it won't be the end of the world. She will almost be weaning then (although is enjoying her porridge in the morning now!) so I am viewing formula as a step towards moving away from having me as her only food supply. Sob.

MsJupiterJones · 17/04/2013 12:30

Sorry Det & YW, guilty as charged.

ChasingDaisy · 17/04/2013 12:34

I'm here! have a baby who won't stay awake longer than an hour today. Means more MN for mummy Wink Definitely developmentally leaping here.

Excellent toy recommendations Detective! Am off to Toys r Us and Mothercare/ELC tomorrow so will scope out what he may enjoy.

ChasingDaisy · 17/04/2013 12:37

Ooh post number 666. Was freaking me out so had to post again.

YellowWellies · 17/04/2013 12:47

MM don't take the amount you express as an indication of supply. Check out kellymom that's a myth. Its natural for it to be harder to express after three months due to your hormones changing. The fussing was perhaps Ms attempts to up your supply as she grows? Glad to hear she's thriving just don't be doubting yourself - you're doing an amazing job. And if you do decide to FF or M decides it for you - you'll still be doing an amazing job Smile

Passmethecrisps · 17/04/2013 12:55

Ok. Mum's hair - goes in mouth. iPhone - in mouth. Mum's specs - In mouth. Fingers - in mouth. Food - confused look

ChasingDaisy · 17/04/2013 13:06

Ah pass but at least she knows that food is something different....

Grin
BigPigLittlePig · 17/04/2013 13:06

Pass you can add to that "Mummys shopping list" - I turned around and when I looked back there was a very soggy piece of paper and one happy baby.

Thank god for ranitidine - one week in, and F is back to sleeping 7-3-7.

Interesting to read about reduced ability to express after 3 months. I've only just restarted expressing to build up some freezer stock, and struggle to get much more than 2oz of a morning. I used to be able to fill a bottle.

GT sorry to hear about illness, tis rubbish.
PR how is your cold? Hopefully busy fucking off. I had a chuckle about the dog, sounds like a nightmare though.
Chasing happy toy hunting!

F had a meltdown at baby group this morning, because she was overtired. Since we removed the newborn insert from the carseat, a coloured label has become visible. Most. Interesting. Thing. Ever. So car naps are rarer than they were. There was a lady there with 11 week old twins, who are so dinky, made me alarmingly broody.

Brockle · 17/04/2013 13:13

well Y finally took a decent amount of ebf via a cup hurray! his doidy cup came today so will try that tomorrow. I really hope he gets the hang of it as I am missing the cinema Smile

Y's new booster seat came today too.

sorry can't help with the sick leaVe advice detective but hope the union has more answers. apparently work is manically busy so I am sure they are going to take my holiday request and request for different days really well. Wink

chasing both my boys loved the leapfrog learning table. I think most toy companies do them now. they can sit on the floor and play with them and when you put the legs on it is good for standing practice. getting it out the loft for Y this weekend I think.

ds2 wet his bed last night and had a bizarre tantrum whilst lying on the bathroom floor. he then refused to go to school. so exhausted. he is always Like this in the first few days of the school term. he isn't five yet and school is just tiring him out.
Y slept through though so at least one person out of the five slept well last night!

TheDetective · 17/04/2013 13:14

New transfer fail technique!

Leave in cot, lift legs in air (baby not you!) and pat bum. Over and over. Transfer WIN!

Imagine lifting legs like you are changing them. Hey presto!

BP We heart Ranitidine here too!

Brockle · 17/04/2013 13:18

re expressing, I think it just takes time to increase the amount you can express. I hardly expressed at all with ds1 but when I went back to work at seven months within a few weeks I could express 8oz in one sitting and that was after I fed ds1 after work and at 10pm that night.

I wish I had got the medela swing. I have the smaller one which is loud and slow Angry

StuntNun · 17/04/2013 13:19

Yy to trouble expressing after a few months. I had that with DS2 as well. I think it's because the milk is produced on demand rather than building up in the breasts and pumping isn't as effective at stimulating letdown as baby. I have no idea how exclusively expressing mummies manage.
