Lily Thanks

F has found her voice again, the gaviscon is clearly making her so much happier if we ignore the happy thing that is a gaviscon poo She has been cooing to herself/me/playmat/cat/thin air for about 45 minutes now. She's making up for lost time, I suspect!

Lily Thanks. You will certainly be in my thoughts, as you often are.

I agree with you pass about weaning decisions. I think that had been a source of my anxiety as well. I think I will start with purees and give him finger foods to play with as well.

I am looking forward to weaning giving mine and O's day more structure. I am planning to start with a lunchtime meal and making it a regular daily thing of me and him sitting down to lunch together.

Anyone else's periods been worse since giving birth? I never suffered with mine but they have now been very heavy and painful. I want to curl up on the sofa with a hot water bottle but I have a hyperactive baby who needs entertaining Sad

Clarella · 08/04/2013 12:38

just fed lo sitting on my sofa watching great british menu (I know late to the party as always!) no traipsing up to bed after failed attempts!

double check what foods when though - I think yogurt was ok. someone said cow and gate do a good list of what when etc (possibly in a cook book??)

I'm really looking forward to it. 9 weeks to go!

PetiteRaleuse · 08/04/2013 12:57

Weaning is masses of fun. I've said my piece on BLW in the past. Purées at first for me, as I wean early, followed by finger foods as and when are how I do it. I don't understand the antipathy towards purée to be honest. It is a great way of having them taste different things. That said LO grabbed some bread from my hand yesterday and started sucking on it - she's too young for bread so I took it away before she pulped it enough to eat, but she got a taste.

Pig you'll be amazed at what she can do in five weeks. Picking things up and putting them in her mouth will just happen one day. In a week, or two, or five. They just suddenly get it.

Just had a newsflash on my iPad that Thatcher is dead. Is this true?

PetiteRaleuse · 08/04/2013 13:02

It appears to be true.

Pikz · 08/04/2013 13:04

It is true PR

I am doing a mix like you PR. starting with purée and going to bits they can hold.

PetiteRaleuse · 08/04/2013 13:19

Just heard awful wheezing coming from LO's pram. Freaked out then remembered she is in her bed. It was the fucking cat.

BigPigLittlePig · 08/04/2013 13:25

Another trip to the vets, pr?! Better than the paeds I suppose...

PetiteRaleuse · 08/04/2013 13:26

Managed to grab her and chuck her outside before she vommed at least. Don't always get a wheezy warning.

PetiteRaleuse · 08/04/2013 13:27

The paed is closer and a lot funnier than our vet. Might take the cat along too, but I know the next time i take her will be the last :(

Pikz · 08/04/2013 13:42

LO appears to have got out of wrong side of his crib today!

kirrinIsland · 08/04/2013 13:47

Thanks lily

I spent an hour trying to get N to sleep in her swing while DD1 napped. All I achieved is tears from both of us and a baby who still hasn't slept. I did PUPD, and she cried in the swing and then slept on me as soon as I picked her up, only to cry again as soon as I put her down. After an hour I admitted defeat. I don't know what to do now.

I will be doing purees, but not for a few weeks yet. I'll do some finger foods as well, but mostly purees.

I am still fighting with myself over introducing formula. I guess guilt trips are part and parcel of parenting!

TryingtobelessChunkyChick · 08/04/2013 13:49

Judging by A's nappy yesterday, he actually ate some of the cooked carrot still he was chewing/sucking on.Grin

I think 'modern' purees are all about tastes & introducing finger foods at 6+mths. I think BLW (or baby self-feeding as the UK site suggests) is more a reaction to the now out-dated almost force-feeding of purees to get calories into babies, as used to happen. Now "food is fun til 1" is accepted regardless of bf or ff, the weaning route is relatively similar. I don't know anyone that does or has done 'pure' BLW. I used some spoon feeding of porridge & yog, which is technically not BLW. IMO the only rules you should follow when it comes to weaning are food safety ones - no whole nuts, avoid gluten at first, well cooked eggs, no honey etc etc.

I give A bits off our plate or that I'm giving DD in the evenings to have a play with but I don't consider it weaning. He went mad for the pear, ate almost half of one & cried a bit when it was gone, had a gnaw suck of carrot and thought cucumber was pointless but I don't think of it as 'weaning'. When he can actually pick it up & independently wants to eat it, then I'll do it properly, introduce porridge and a range of finger foods etc. At the mo, he doesn't have the hand-eye coordination to hold it properly & get it in his mouth.

Lily no words, just hugs for you.

BigPigLittlePig · 08/04/2013 13:51

kirrin I can't bring myself to introduce formula - I think I will find it easier to do gradually alongside weaning. I've also temporarily given up on the nap mission, and will try again in a few days - although it's harder when you've more than 1 I know.

fruitpastilles · 08/04/2013 13:54

I had my weaning session today as well clarella I think I will be doing mostly purée with a few finger foods, the finger food will just really be for her to play around with mostly though.

Quiche advice needed! S has always been a good sleeper, she has slept through from 10 weeks but just lately she has started waking at around 1:30, she happily lies in her cot, doesn't cry or anything but she chatters soooooo loudly. Next door have a 2 year old and her room is next to S's I worry that she is so loud she will wake her up. She doesn't go back to sleep either, last night I was at her cot for an hour and a half holding her hand and trying to get her back off, in the end I brought her in our bed and she went straight to sleep. Dp moaned about this as we had said we wouldn't bring her in our bed because we don't want her to get used to it, I have no idea what to do to get her back to sleep. Sorry for waffling.

TryingtobelessChunkyChick · 08/04/2013 13:57

The only thing to watch out for BPLP when introducing formula at the same time as weaning is adverse reactions. I.e. is it the banana or the formula affecting wind/constipation/reflux/eczema etc. Might be easier to do 1 at a time... Remember though, that by the time they're on regular 'meals' they're usually on fewer milk feeds too, so it might not be as hard on you then anyway iyswim.

PetiteRaleuse · 08/04/2013 14:07

Newsflash. LO had a 4oz feed earlier on. This is the most she has had in one sitting in days. And she is coughing less lucky her could there be a light at the end of the tunnel?

BigPigLittlePig · 08/04/2013 14:08

I had worried about that chunky. I just worry about when I'm back at work, as she'll be at the CM 8-5 so likely to need either ff or ebm during that time, and I'm not sure I'll be able to express enough and work full-time. I suppose I'd have to treat ff as a new food, and introduce it on its own and not alongside other new foods.

Do some babies manage with no milk feeds for that length of time (7 hours ish)? Just water and solids? And then bf in the mornings/evenings/nights? I'm probably worrying unnecessarily, she'd probably scoff a bottle of ff with no problems at all.

ValiumQueen · 08/04/2013 14:15

I do not understand why people are against puréed food. It is just mashing it well, like you would for anyone with no teeth. J went bonkers for pear today Grin

Heard from the dietician, and she thinks it is CMPI caused by untreated reflux FFS!!!! She thinks he will get worse soon on the SMA LF. Apparently babies often do well for some weeks on it, so are lulled into a false sense of security. I felt really really upset and angry after hearing that Sad she also said to definately not give any dairy when weaning, which is completely the opposite of what HV said.

J is struggling to poo, and doing small grape sized bits with a lot of effort. I am giving extra water, prune juice and pear. Tried to give him a suppository but he cried and immediately pushed it out. I guess that is to be expected, but it really upset me. Poor little lad.

ValiumQueen · 08/04/2013 14:19

bp in order to maintain bm feeds with my girls I had to build up quite a big supply in the freezer. It is very hard to pump that much on a daily basis. I would recommend introducing the odd bottle of formula from any time now, to give it time to react, if at all, before first tastes. It will do no harm and will take a bit of pressure off. I used to be very anti ff for my own kids, so understand where you are coming from totally, but try to see it as a positive, a first taste etc.

ValiumQueen · 08/04/2013 14:21

I have put pics of the gro bags on FB.

PetiteRaleuse · 08/04/2013 14:34

pig when will this be? From 8 months or so morning and evening feeds would probably be ok. Cows milk can be introduced as a drink from 12 months or so I think. DD1 won't touch any milk other than formula. It's getting expensive. Sometimes I try and´trick her by mixing with cows milk, but she takes a gulp and spits.

PetiteRaleuse · 08/04/2013 14:45

Ooh look what I learned to do: Bear

ValiumQueen · 08/04/2013 14:50

pr how the fuck do you do that? Very impressed!
