Instead of marking place, please could those of us with older siblings post something (positive) they are looking forward to as our babies get older. I think it would cheer us up since so many are struggling at the moment.

He's asleep :) very noisy snoring but he enjoyed his bath and took some milk and then just collapsed in my arms snoring. Bless my boy he's been so brave today.

PurplePidjin · 13/03/2013 19:25

I reckon 10 more pockets - i have 12 day nappies on permanent rotation, washing alternate days; sometimes i use more, sometimes fewer, sometimes i just fancy a change of pattern! - then for night hemp or bamboo boosters and chop up a fleece blanket (20x10cm worked for me iirc) for reusable liners. I have a giant stash of boosters, many of them given to me, pm me your address and I'll pass a couple on so you've got something to play around with :)

gardenpixie32 · 13/03/2013 19:26

The girls love Sophie too. DT1 chews her face and dribbles everywhere. We got them as gifts, would never have spent 25 quid on chew toys!

Passmethecrisps · 13/03/2013 19:29

Good evening!

Glasgow yesterday and Edinburgh today - get us!

luis thank you for your response. We have had an interesting response from people re DH being the main parent during the day. There has been a fair amount of assumption that I will go part time despite being the only main wage earner. I think it is interesting that there is still such surprise. My DH is by no means perfect but then neither am I. We muddle along together a happy pair of fuck ups.

pikz I am sorry that LO is poorly but I am relieved for you that you have not been kept in.

Hooray for getting home eliza.

The final decision on the car must be a relief MM. At least you can now start planning your new purchase!

VQ how's it hanging with the wee man and his nomming? I have been entrained for much of the day and I noticed at one point that IG was mentioned. Are you still considering it? Some people can see some improvement on one or two sachets a day but TBH there can't have been much of a problem to begin with if that fixes it. It does gives instant relief as it costs the throat on the way down but there is also an accumulative effect. As for what formula to start using - I am not really sure. It would depend what matter you are trying to address. If there was a reflux issue I wonder if hungry baby might make a difference - is the formula thicker? Good luck whatever you choose.

I am sitting here watching P sleep. For the last 2 weeks she has been impossible to settle for first bedtime. It would go like this: sleep, roar! Dummy back in. Sleep. Roar! Dummy back in and so on. Each sleep would last max 10 minutes. The last few days we have just given up and got her back out of bed. But then she gets tired again and it seems pointless putting her down when she is due a feed and meds in an hour blah blah. So normally it ends up in a meltdown by about 9:30.

On the way home from Edinburgh on the train she was awake the whole time. She stayed awake when we got home and boinged and wiggled for a good long time. However, it got to post-bath dinner and she screamed! Too tired for nomming. I put her down and she appears to be deeply asleep. She lost her dummy, opened her eyes but then closed them again. . . . .

Oh fuck.

Scrap everything above. Awake. Ah well.

Catbag · 13/03/2013 19:29

Ha ha detective, I love how your phone autocorrected teats to Yeats! You are so literary Grin

ValiumQueen · 13/03/2013 19:38

detective I am also blessed with a multitude of avent, but he likes tommee. Avent sell well on ebay in big bundles.

pikz makes sense to start powder just for days initially. I hope to bf as long as he will take it at night and am hoping he will soon sleep better.

pass I will crack open that powder tomorrow. It says to make at 40deg and serve immediately. Seems odd and fucking impossible. What did you do? I want to make in advance and chill quickly. I guess it is because it is fancy stuff. I will use aptimil I think once this is used. Or SMA or whatever. But will stick to a milk from therein. Depends on price and availability.

Just feeding J boob juice as he is shattered. I think DD2 is coming down with something. All I fucking need with J having his jags tomorrow and DH working late.

sweetpea1112 · 13/03/2013 19:39

Gosh you lot have been chatty today!

Sending thoughts to pikz and detective Thanks and Wine. for mummies. Hugs for babies.

Glad the northern meet up went well. Would be up for a midlands meet.

So baby group was ok. Oscar was a little star, had a feed halfway through then fell asleep on me. He has slept through part of all the groups I have been to - all the other babies manage to stay awake or the whole session, and he'd one of the oldest Confused

The weaning talk was good, covered BLW and purees. Got to try some samples and am excited to get started.

A mum of a 14 week old decided to give her baby the samples we were given. He spat most of it out and looked very unimpressed bless him. Perhaps not the best environment for baby's first weaning experience?

calpol question O copes ok with his gums during the day with the help of teething gel, but come the evening is a crying mess. Calpol seems to help so have given him 2.5ml before bed. Bottle says to seek doctors advice after 3 days - baby book says tis ok to give a dose before bed for the duration of teething pain. Thoughts?

sweetpea1112 · 13/03/2013 19:41

VQ I have a spare box of size two Teats but they are for the anti colic bottles not the easi vent ones as I thought. If you or anyone else fancies them you are more than welcome.

ShellyBobbs · 13/03/2013 19:42

Sorry to hear about poorly babies. Eliza fantastic news about you both coming home, your older daughter must be delighted!

Lovely day today meeting Daisy, Detective and Fatima. I can taste garlic every time I burp Grin

Off to google chewy giraffe.

sweetpea1112 · 13/03/2013 19:44

pikz bless your brave baby. Our Freddie the Firefly is called Frank Grin

BigPigLittlePig · 13/03/2013 20:01

sweetpea I think the advice is to see the doctor is more to do with the fact that, if pain or fever persists for more than 3 days with no diagnosis, there may be more to it than a virus, for example. There's no medical reason why you can't give calpol regularly distinctly recall getting own knickers in a twist re: the exact same thing last week and failing to take my own advice, nob

Dh is being twattish tonight, that is all.

Catbag · 13/03/2013 20:07

sweetpea I agree with BPLP, that was my understanding of the three day thing.

Listening to The Moral Maze. I do not have the vocabulary to truly express how pinched and vile I find Melanie Philips. Cannot believe she is married to Joshua Rozenburg, he seems like such a top bloke. They do look awfully alike though...

Catbag · 13/03/2013 20:10
BigPigLittlePig · 13/03/2013 20:12

Hope said fish is particularly smelly and soggy catbag?

Catbag · 13/03/2013 20:15

It's kind of falling apart I am afraid. I had to slap VQ around with it quite a bit earlier...

TheDetective · 13/03/2013 20:22

My phone clearly sees it's owner as intellectual!

Said owner does not!

I am waving to the quiche from my lovely lush bath while mr chilli fingers is camped on the sofa with old grumps!

Izzybuzzybuzzybees · 13/03/2013 20:22

pikz sorry to hear of baby's illness. I wish a speedy recovery on you!

mm £450 is a great result for car seat and base. I hope they are as generous with pay out on car!

vq you've done fantastically well to feed J your milk for so long. A 3 hour gap between feeds must have been bliss for you given how much he seems to feed usually. I wonder if reflux is the issue also. If switching to formula I agree that starting in just regular would be the best idea but depends which is easily available which you decide to try. I have no advice on making up feeds as what we did for DD would be highly frowned upon now! she actually had her milk at room temp with no heating whatsoever!

Can't remember what else I was going to comment on now.

I've given j a bottle of EBM in the hope that it will miraculously make a difference to his sleep tonight. Ha, no chance I think! Was VERY weird giving him a bottle. DH would have done it but if he did that I had to sort the washing and fill the dishwasher and I couldn't be arsed so chose the easy option of baby!

LuisGarcia · 13/03/2013 20:27

Good luck tonight, everyone.

Catbag · 13/03/2013 20:34

Good luck to you luis! What's all this talk of extactor fans?!

Catbag · 13/03/2013 20:35

Is it me or has this sweary Wednesday not as sweary as it has been for a couple of weeks?

sweetpea1112 · 13/03/2013 20:39

I agree cat - major lack of swearing. A good thing?

LuisGarcia · 13/03/2013 20:43

Cat Thanks!

Extractor fan is acting as a white noise machine in the kitchen (which is in turn furthest from where anyone elses sleep could be disturbed, so it's my bolthole of choice with L if she kicks off during the night)

Catbag · 13/03/2013 20:47

sweetpea I can only assume so!

luis That is awesome. Mine appear to be impervious to the magic of white noise. And in turn, their father is impervious to any noise they may make in the night! I think I need some louder white noise. Or an extractor fan.

TheDetective · 13/03/2013 20:47

I love the extractor fan. White noise works a treat for O.

I feel less sweary after my bath!

I suspect the most sweary member has been out today...

ValiumQueen · 13/03/2013 20:51

cat that is because detective was out all day. Give her time - the night is young. Grin

I keep finding scales everywhere.

Thank you for the advice everyone.

sweetpea I have no idea what my bottles are. I will check when next in Tesco. I know they are Tommee but I did not even know there were different types. Wide neck. Boob shaped clear nipple bit.

izzy I so understand the odd feeling of giving a bottle. I cried buckets the first time, but the two other times were great. Hope you have a good night. Night 3 of Operation Big Boy Cot and it will get easier after tonight x

pass I am not sure what I am trying to achieve really, except a happy mummy and happy baby. It is clear it is not a milk protein intolerance otherwise he would be ill. Perhaps the 'wind' or 'reflux' is actually hunger? Perhaps my tits have gone menopausal? Time will tell. How was P with your friend?
