Very welcome all lurker s. take a seat Brew

We have an exploding cheek. What the fuck is it? In the last couple of days one cheek has gone bright red and a little bumpy. He has runny snot eyes, runny snot nose, green poo and a very slightly raised temp.

Is it:

A.) some kind of viral rash
B.) eczema/allergic reaction to either the Persil used in NI or the baby Bubble bath used.
C.) slap cheek

I might post a picture on fb

TheDetective · 06/03/2013 22:26

Sounds like slapped cheek but I'm no expert. DS1 had it recently. Post a pic of the cheek on FB!

kissyfur · 06/03/2013 22:29

Welcome to all the newbies Smile

Passmethecrisps · 06/03/2013 22:31

I love that one of your daily activities is the pub horsey!

WallinoMio · 06/03/2013 22:33

I'm jealous of all the interesting activities people do especially the pub , we have nothing like that here... I should really make more of an effort but some days it's hard enough to get dressed

Kyzordz · 06/03/2013 22:34

Thankyou yw Blush I don't want him to be like me :( not in the social aspect anyway! I assumed probably because I feel like I come across as someone who shouldve realised she knew very little about raising a baby and really struggles with simple decisions. I guess I just want to do right by him. I realised today there is no right, only common sense Abd doing what I feel is best for him. He is my baby, not the hv's, so whilst she can say he drinks too much, she has spent about 3 hours in his company, I have clocked up literally almost every hour he has been alive. I feed him and change him and care for him so stuff it. I try to take every shred of advice I am given but cannot follow all of it so need to pick the bits out that are right for Eric, and for me too a little. Sorry, I waffle Blush

detective I grinned reading your post :D amazing change in o, so pleased for you both!

Sophiathesnowfairy · 06/03/2013 22:37

My bastard iPad won't let me take a photo, says all storage is used up.

Izzybuzzybuzzybees · 06/03/2013 22:38

Hello to all the newbies!

Glad to hear O is much better for you now detective that must make a massive difference to you as well.

Is anyone watching the following?? We just caught up on last nights, I'm getting really into it now!

Ok j was asleep after a mammoth feed downstairs. Came up after he had been asleep 15 mins and he woke up on transfer to crib so is not fucking feeding again!!! My only hope is he feeds so much he sleeps all bloody night!!

applepieinthesky · 06/03/2013 22:38

Wallino no I don't speak the minority language at home. I have always spoken to DP in English and can't speak his language very well unfortunately. I wonder if I should get DP to teach me more so I can speak to DS in his language or if this would confuse him? Like you I worry about him not getting enough exposure to the minority language. It's not a language which is widely spoken either (Farsi) so we can't get tv channels and dual language books are hard to come by but we do have a few.

I have been reading a very good book called Bilingual By Choice by Virginie Raguenaud and she says that if children have to learn a language to communicate then they will. If it is perceived as not very important and they can get by without speaking it then they won't become fluent in it. So whenever DP speaks to DS in English I tell him off because he's giving him an opt out.

horseylady · 06/03/2013 22:40

Yes, not even a typo!!!!

We go to the pub on a Tuesday morning for tea and cake!!! It's ESP for bumps and babies!!! It's packed!!! I think it's brilliant!!! It's also opposite a country park so well go for walks when the weather is better!!

Oh det jumperoo sold. She messaged me today!! Let me know anymore you want to see!! Glad o is better!!

WallinoMio · 06/03/2013 22:44

I'll have to check out that book apple ...this whole bilingual marlarky is a minefield! I'm lucky that I can obviously get hold of English books/DVDs etc v easily but am still worried it won't be enough. Maybe PR could give us some advice? feels like an even bigger stalker

misslaughalot · 06/03/2013 22:46

Izzy I'm watching! Always had a thing for Mr Bacon so it's great to have him on my telly on a weekly basis. I'm loving it, though the first couple of episodes were quite gory for tv but really enjoying it and not sure how its going to pan out. I can't guess which of the FBI people are part of the cult, there has to be at least one I reckon but I keep changing my mind!

applepieinthesky · 06/03/2013 22:49

Yes it's all very confusing isn't it wallino? So many different methods and opinions about which way is best. I kind of feel like we're making it up as we go along but I'm very aware that we only get one chance at this and we have to get it right Confused

TheDetective · 06/03/2013 23:01

Bugger! Never mind! Thanks ever so much though Horsey! Am keeping my eyes peeled for one!

kirrinIsland · 06/03/2013 23:02

Welcome wallino :) We do OPOL, but speak English to each other, so the minority language is very much the minority! We do use TV to boost exposure, and make sure our friends who speak both languages use Arabic to them even if I can't follow it so sit there like a lemon

kyz if you are nervous about baby groups, try and find ones that are 'drop ins' rather than classes iyswim. I did a group with DD1 that ran from 10-12 but you could come and go as you pleased, with no organised activities you HAD to sit through. Means you can up and leave if it all gets too much/baby is screaming/they've run out of coffee - might be a bit less overwhelming?

Right, I'm off to bed. Which is surely N's cue to wake up!!

Night all :)

WallinoMio · 06/03/2013 23:04

Making it up as I go along is pretty much how I feel about everything! I too am off to bed, night all Grin

Elizadoesdolittle · 06/03/2013 23:12

Hello waves have had quite a busy day with various consultants and visitors.

The latest development is we are getting out on Friday.....however it's only to go to another hospital! They are going to shove a camera down E's throat which is basically attached to a computer and will record and transmit data for 24 hours. The hospital we have to go to is about an hours drive from here. Hopefully I can drive us there which would be good. I'd get to feel human for a bit!

It's going to be tough though as I won't get any visitors tomorrow as it just pans out with DD1's activities there is no time to bring her here and all my friends are off having lives! And then I won't see anyone during our stay in this other hospital. But I'm hoping that the end is in sight. If this last test doesn't show any medical concerns then it really is just feeding issues. I'm hoping I won't have to come back here after but we will see.

Hi to all new non lurkers. Special wave to lily, what a heartbreaking thing to happen. I can't begin to imagine what you're going through.

Re things to do with the LO's I'm reading the posts with interest. I go out a lot so a lot of E's entertainment is watching her sis at her various activities, going to lots of parks / soft play and I think even she is starting to get bored of this hospital room. I'm going to give her a bath tomorrow which should entertain her a bit. When we get home for home time play we have a play mat, bumbo, jumperoo and her sister of course. Can't wait to get home to utilise those things. She was supposed to have her 3rd set of jabs today and then we were going to start swimming next week! Still we can't be in here forever, her time will come!

I was going to reply to lots of people but my minds gone blank. I'll probably post a lot tomorrow and you'll all be bored stiff of me!

Contradictionincarnate · 06/03/2013 23:45

WELCOME wal and lily look forward to seeing your profiles on facebook.
think that profile idea is the best I have had! ...yes I am blowing my own trumpet but I don't often get a chance to do it!! - no good ideas! Sad
kyd yeah I would have said you come across super confident ... its different on mn than rl obviously!
Glenda yes babies do hold their breath underwater but have to be completely submerged to have that reaction (had a swimming instructor attend bf group who advised of this) ... though when I actually took her swimming I didn't plonk her in. instructor had said she could react one of 4 ways and it could be distressing if I didn't know what to expect!)
det good to see you back to full woof!!
anyone else use a sleeping bag and bf to sleep just started using one and find its good for transfer probably as it keeps her warm. but not good trying to zip her in etc when you have forgotten... left her to self settle with turtle sea noises playing while I had quick wee...came back dh had been woken by her squarking!

Contradictionincarnate · 06/03/2013 23:49

Eliza I had been writing my post for so long ... yours wasn't on her last time! good that the end is in sight! don't worry about not having visitors ... you have us! Grin

Contradictionincarnate · 06/03/2013 23:51

oh and I forgot re language I want dd to learn welsh would like her to start asap but I need to learn too don't know much apart from the school stuff. I don't agree with sending your child to a welsh school if you can't speak Welsh yourself ... wouldn't be able to read them books or help with homework that saddens me.

ValiumQueen · 07/03/2013 00:23

3.5 hours. Not bad but not enough. Nearly fell asleep feeding.

ValiumQueen · 07/03/2013 00:35

A quick question not baby related.

A new (scary) family has moved in nearby, and the 7yo walks the 5yo to school and back. Is there some kind of rule about that? The route is not very easy and involves crossing two roads with no patrol. Should I raise my concerns with the school? The elder child seems very capable, indeed too capable for her age, to the extent I wonder how much responsibility she has at home. Just have a feeling about them.

sweetpea1112 · 07/03/2013 02:33

Second feed. He used to be able to sleep. Why can't he go longer than three hours anymore?

Spent the time between feeds crying into my pillow. I am so ridiculously tired now and I think my depression is back - my world is going black again.

sweetpea1112 · 07/03/2013 02:36

VQ no rules that I know of, however I think you would regret not voicing your concerns more than you would regret voicing them.

You would hope that the school may have already picked up on it too.

Lilliana · 07/03/2013 02:53

4 hours- could be worse! L does seem to be wanting to go to bed a bit earlier though I'm torn, be nice to have some evening back but her first stretch pf sleep is usually her longest and so i might only get 2 hours instead of 4 - i need the 4!

Hate posting pneumonia mobile as can't write as i read and forget what i wanted to say.

Whoever posted their conversation about forks it made me laugh so maybe would win you some friends!! Will try it today.

Welcome wal

Eliza sorry to hear about having to move hospitals but at least think end is in sight.

VQ sadly this is not an unknown at our school but i would let the school know. The more information they have the better esp as they are a new family and they might have concerns too.

Kyz when i plucked up the courage to go the groups i did feel 'watched' at the beginning but think that was more in my head - everyone is too busy to have time to watch me! All the babies scream at some point and it is good for L. Give it a go, you can leave / not go back if it's not for you.

Crap i have another blocked duct :( is it still sweary Wednesday?

Bugger forgot everything else. Hope all the babies are sleeping well.
