I am so shallow.
:(

gardenpixie32 · 07/02/2013 18:38

I am thankful for ready meals and chocolate or I wouldn't eat

Going to Strada this weekend, excited to have nice food!

horseylady · 07/02/2013 18:44

As in nearly a bottle? Approx 6 units so 6/7 hours to clear. I'd guess you can't feed?

stunt this time last year a friend told me she was pregnant. I congratulated her walked away and burst into tears and allestree my mum. I so wanted a family, we were just starting tests etc. After 3 years nearly of ttc. In fact mine had just come back as normal. My mil was dying so everything was on hold. Three weeks later bfp, a year later my beautiful son is sitting on me feeding!! Amazing how life changes.

BigPigLittlePig · 07/02/2013 18:45

Haha det I was thinking the same about myself Blush

I forget who it was who said their nursery was cheaper than cm...the only nursery open late enough to cater for our working ours is the one on the hospital site. They charge something like £4.60/hour, the childminder charges £4. The difference comes though when you cxonsider that nursery won't allow you to bring home-prepared puree foods for babies being weaned, only cold finger food, so would have to buy gross jars which starts to add up as she's there 4 days a week. Plus I get sporadic half days which nursery would charge for but the cm very kindly has said she'll just knock the money off the next bill Grin

TheDetective · 07/02/2013 18:52

The nursery don't give you the option on what purees you feed your own child? REALLY?! Shock That is awful!

You should be able to have a choice if you are using purees, then they should be whatever you chose to feed your baby!

I'd just be sneaky and if I was doing a homemade puree, I'd stick it in a jar... how would anyone know?!

Grin
TheDetective · 07/02/2013 18:52

CM's here are £2.75-£3.50 an hour.

The prices haven't gone up much in 10 years. Poor CM's :(

I paid £2.50 an hour when DS1 was little.

horseylady · 07/02/2013 18:54

Really? Hospital works out 3.2/hr cms I spoke to were £5 an hour ish.

PetiteRaleuse · 07/02/2013 18:56

Detective they'd know because it wouldn't smell rancid when heated up. Ugh. Hate jars of baby food

TheDetective · 07/02/2013 18:56

Yup. Nursery always been more expensive where I have lived.

Well, technically it is if you don't need the full day, which I never have done.

I'll just have a look at nursery prices here ... brb.

horseylady · 07/02/2013 18:56

Hospital nursery!!

I was shocked at cm costs!! Plus they wouldn't take vouchers.

gardenpixie32 · 07/02/2013 18:57

That is a piss poor hourly rate. But if you had 6 children it would work out to nearly 25 per hour!

I charge a daily rate no matter how many hours are used. I have quite a big setting with 2 assistants and I can care for up to 9 under 5's & 9 under 8's. Not going back on such a big scale now, just me, my DD's and one other child.

BigPigLittlePig · 07/02/2013 18:57

They'd know because of that clicky bit on the lid lol.
They're as much a pain with milk as well - they check the temp at drop off and it has to be either below or above a certain amount else they won't give it. I can understand they need to be careful with ff but surely you can be too careful? They won't make it up from powder either. God knows what they'd make of ebm.

Plus the cm has no other kids during school hrs as she's just starting out, so would be one-to-one which is lovely. She's lovely, so's her house, and her kids. Tiny bit envious of how organised she is I am currently shambolic

BigPigLittlePig · 07/02/2013 18:59

£3.20/hr - nice. Even when they're preschoolers it's still £4ish. Ridiculous. It is supposed to be a v good nursery but still.

StuntNun · 07/02/2013 19:01

If you feed zcos the baby will get some alcohol. You could take a chance as a one off but it would be safer to give expressed milk if you have any. No need to pump and dump though the alcohol clears from your milk at the same speed as it clears from your blood. Very roughly speaking if you're sober enough to drive you're okay to feed so long as you don't make a habit of it.

[£21.00 Per Half Day, £32.00 Per Day, £135.00 Per Week] From nursery website. That's 7.30-6.

CM £25.00 a day, or £3.00 an hour. Weekly £120.00. 7.30-6. From FIS website.

horseylady · 07/02/2013 19:08

What happens though if cm is ill/goes on holiday etc?

gardenpixie32 · 07/02/2013 19:09

It is quite a difference down south. A nursery would charge 50 for a full day and I charge 45. London can be as much as 65 a day.

horseylady · 07/02/2013 19:11

Well it's £30 a day so assume he's there 7-4 but it's open 7-6. Outstanding ofsted max 6 under 2, 10 under 3 and 14 under 4 they only have 30 kids total. They only close bank holidays and weekends I think. Well staffed, good facilities just hard to get in!! He's in though (yay!)

BigPigLittlePig · 07/02/2013 19:12

They have to have back-up cms, who are local cms who in exceptional circumstances can have above the max number of kids they're supposed to for a short period of time, ie. a few days. She has to give us a few months notice re. hols and I think MIL would have LO then, or we can also use some of our annual leave.

Completely separate subject. Have been using dr google re: my poor boob, and I've decided I might have thrush. LO had a white tongue which I've always put down to reflux. Both my nipples are sore, especially the right one which has cracked at it's base iyswim. Things were fine until a few days ago Sad. Thoughts?

TheDetective · 07/02/2013 19:12

DP is such an arse. He is currently blocking the main road with the greenflag van.

Why the fuck couldn't he just knock on next door and ask can he jump start the car from their car which is practically bonnet to bonnet with his.

Arsehole.

horseylady · 07/02/2013 19:13

Yeah I looked at one nursery which was £55 a day.

As I said the three cm I spoke to were all £5/hr they didn't do a day rate. So it would have been nearly £50 a day for me. And they didn't start till 730- 8am (which is fair enough but I start at 730)

glendathegoodwitch · 07/02/2013 19:16

pr ahhhh ok didn't know if something like echinacea would help you though doubt you could give it to a toddler ignore my useless waffling lol

I am very thankful for @ hrs sleep at night, for profiteroles, for my place at uni and for my very gorgeous sometimes annoying family!!!!

Think I need to get up at 5 am tomorrow to make sure dots is fed and I'm showered n dressed in time for my shift eeeeeeek pls be a nice quiet ward!!!

TheDetective · 07/02/2013 19:18

I suppose if you need full time, or full days, nursery is probably a better option, but for me, who has always done shifts, CM has always worked out the cheapest option.

I never had a problem with CM being ill, and the CM's I have had have worked their holidays around bank hols, or have taken time off when I am off, or I have taken time off when they are off. As far as I know, its 4 weeks a year. Should be manageable between parents to take the leave?

I get 7 weeks, DP 5 and a bit I think.

I'm not sure how it works if CM is ill. As I say, I've always been really lucky. Although the last CM I had her husband was registered too, so he could have taken over if she was really unwell.

Titsalinabumsquash · 07/02/2013 19:19

I'm south and the local holiday club costs £40 per day per child... I'll be keepin mine home this time then :/

glendathegoodwitch · 07/02/2013 19:20

Wow detective that's cheap!!! In Essex nurseries are about £250 pw and cm £200 am thinking of selling a kidney!!!
