Here's the new place to chat about all our wonderful babies, while they still are babies.

Kate i'm sorry about the job and that I wasn't any help at all, but it sounds like you don't need it anyway! How scary to have to start a new job in a new school with a baby at home as well.

Azure - I know what you mean about the baby weight. I started a course of sessions at the gym a few weeks ago for post natal women, and because my baby was the oldest, the instructor said she thought I might find all the exercises too easy. God it just about killed me! I was in agony for days. She rang up in the week again to apologise and I told her I was finding it really difficult! She seemed to think that if your babe is 9months your body should be back to normal - NOT!

Anyone else baby proofing the house like mad? Everyday ds is doing something else I haven't thought about, and out we go down to boots or mothercare to buy another gadget to prevent him from killing himself!

Anyone's lo tipitoeing instead of on flat feet? Ds is completly on his toes or worse on the backs of his toes with feet curled up when cruising. I've had his feet measured and bought him his first pair of proper shoes yesterday to see if that makes any difference.

Twiga · 09/06/2006 12:15

So excited, Phoebe crawled fwds properly today for the first time - has been going backwards and getting very frustrated for a couple of weeks now. I was sweeping the floor and she decided to chase the broom, was very cute. She's now asleep on the sofa totally worn out after a busy morning - she had a wee pal over to play who is older and was delighted to be able to keep up with him a bit.

Really struck me today how much she's grown and changed, has so much hair and looks huge compared with her new-born pics. Can't believe she'll be nine months on the 14th, it's no time at all but it also feels like forever, can't imagine life without her now.

kate100 · 09/06/2006 16:35

I've had a lovely few days, I took ds2 swimming yesterday afternoon in the outdoor pol and he loved it. He loves being pushed along in his seat while I swim. He looks like a submarine commander in his float seat and he loves splashing. The only problem is that he tries to drink the water leans forward and then comes up spluttering, silly thing! Took ds1 swimming this morning and it was nice to spend some time just the 2 of us as my mum and dad had ds2.

Twiga, I'm sure your dd will be more tired now she's crawling I remember both my boys were each time they did something new.

I'm struggling with my baby weight too, I love cooking and eating too much. My fitness levels are fine, I can swim and run as far as I could before and do my ab exercises too, but I need to eat less food and I don't want to Blush so it's my own fault really. I thought the prospect of going on holiday might inspire me, but all it's done is make me start to think about yummy french food.

PanicPants · 11/06/2006 17:03

Ds is finding the heat really uncomfortable. Yesterday I had a bit of a panic as he went all limp, wouldn't eat or drink, had a high temp and was shaking. He's much better today after a good nights sleep and tepid baths, calpol, fans, syringed water, wearing nothing but a nappy and staying inside etc.

Although I love this weather, I want it to change now so ds can go outside again.

queenrollo · 11/06/2006 21:02

Panicpants....my ds is holding up to the weather ok so far, but we are having terrible trouble keeping his nursery cool (or any room in the house actually)....even with windows open there is just no air moving. he has to sleep with a bodysuit on, i think he'd be better in just a nappy but he'd take it off in five minutes flat!!

i can remember last August though, when he was a tiny newborn and the weather was like this.....i was convinced the heat was too much for him.

Tigerlion · 12/06/2006 14:37

Queenrollo, I know what you mean about the heat. DS is just down to a vest at night as his sleep suit (though a 'summer' one) was making him sweat. Thinking of leaving the fan on all night in his room but quite scared to do so in case it blows up or something! Does anyone know how long you can safely keep them on for?
Does anyone else find that their babies are eating less in the heat. DS is happy to drink loads but is eating hardly anything, even his favourites. Has anyone got good recipes as getting a bit bored of the Annabel Karmel selection. I looked on the recipe section of MN but most of them seem to be for older babies.
We are off on holidays in a few weeks which will be nice as there is a babyclub that will take DS all day from 9.30-6.30. Will give us a bit of time to relax and everything is included so we can relax away though being 5 months PG I am going to have to hold off the cocktails! After theheat that we went through last summer I vowed to try to have my next PG during the winter months but Mother Nature works in weird and wonderful ways. All seems like a big dejas vu!
Hope everyone is well in this heat. We are off to ELC to buy a paddling pool for DS, lucky thing!!

queenrollo · 12/06/2006 19:12

i keep the fan on in ds room all night.....in fact it's been on most of today too, trying to keep the temp down.

it's thundering here so hopefully that will clear the air and make it a bit more bearable.....ds has been really grumpy today bless him.

kipper22 · 13/06/2006 15:06

Wow! Seems ages since I last sat down and posted properly - been a lot of snatched comments between seeing to Charlie, enjoying the sun & seeing friends and family!

Waiting in for the gas man at the moment. Our boiler has been on it's last legs for a couple of years now - been putting off calling anyone out until it finally died Thursday. DH called and told them they couldn't come Saturday (as he didn't want his football viewing disturbed cheeky beggar!) so now I have to do it. Does anyone else share my irrational fear of this? I'm so nervous at the thought of having somebody here who knows more about my home than I do - never know what to do with myself while they work. I need my hair cut and my oven fixed but I feel the same way about those too! I wish he'd just arrive and get it over with!

Anyway, let's talk about Charlie! He's found the stairs this week - DH walked behind him teaching him to climb each one Angry Wink so now the stair gate is invaluable! He seems to be into everything I hadn't even thought about - cooking oil on the shelf in the kitchen and mud in the flower pots are the latest favourites! We visited the in-laws last week - my nephew had been exposed to chicken pox at nursery and is now spotty... uh oh!

Kate - Sorry to hear about the interview but good to hear it looks like you'll get to spend a bit more time at home now. Glad your DSs enjoyed the outdoor pool - struggling with Ds at the moment as he hates cold water. We're trying to entertain/cool him with paddling pool and dipping his toes in the sea and he just screams!

Panicpants - I have definitely READ your name correctly all the time but my head still says pancipants! Sorry to hear you'll have to go back soon but I think 2 days might be just about bearable! What do you think you'll actually be doing in that time?

Josey - Good to hear the teeth are on the way! I'm really impressed with the speech - DS babbles loads but I think the only words we've attributed to him have been because he made a sound a bit like ... IYSWIM. Having said that I'm sure he said his cousin's name (George) last weekend and he makes a definite 'O' sound when shaking his head!

Bramblina - after I read your post we went out to get some stacking rings. No actual stacking as yet (DS forgets to let go!) but getting plenty of use nonetheless! I'm also snap-happy - we seem to have tons of photos of DS with DH as I always make sure I'm first to get to the camera (as others have said - I don't need a record of this pregnancy weight!)

Twiga - We tried your butternut squash and ginger recipe - went down really well, thanks!

Azure - Glad to hear you got your 4 day week. Sounds like your LOs get on well. DS is the only only child at playgroup at the moment and he always seems to be somewhat behind others his age, I think because he has nobody to imitate.

Queenrollo - We've spent a few days on the beach too. DS is difficult to keep down though. Caught him 'swimming' in the sand and licking it on Saturday! When is your LO's birthday btw? Doesn't seem to be on the rundown further down the page.

Tigerlion - Enjoy your holiday! I posted a while back about spicier foods for DS and had some good reponses - \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1379&threadid=170562\the chicken and chorizo is especially delicious!}

kipper22 · 13/06/2006 15:08

Blush that's long! told you I was nervous!

kate100 · 13/06/2006 15:18

Hello all, I think the good weather had run out it's pouring with rain here. till,at leat it will be more comfortable at night for our little ones.

It was my birthday yesterday and I had a lovely day. It was an early start for us as there was a spectacular storm at about 6, but it cleared up quickly and we went for an outdoor swim, which was great. Then we had a picnic in the garden and then in the afternoon, DH bought me ........ A NEW CAR!!!!!! I am very excited, as I've only been driving for 2 years and I inherited my first car from my Mom and have been driving DH's car for the past year as he's been driving the company van, but as we've sold the business he wants his car back so I've had a new car all of my very own. I pick it up on Sunday and I'm very excited. Then today I've been to Bicester village to spend my birthday money.

Does anyone else's LO suck their thumb? DS2 is committed to his, but I'm worried it's making his bottom lip stick out, especially when he;s eating. Could it be connected or am I being paranoid?

josey · 13/06/2006 16:41

Hi everyone oh what lovely weather I cant believe that we have had a whole week of sun and im not going to complain incase it starts raining and forgets to stop! DD has been loving it and i have gone a bit daft buying little summer outfits well she needs the next size up now{blush] got some lovely pjs for her that are like all in one vest and shorts and shorts and t-shits which arent all in one which have helped she gets very sweaty and her hair is always soaked i think its cause she has so much anyone else having to use clasps?

Well we have another tooth they took so long to arrive now there poping up thick and fast

We went for a look at the houses in Newmachar the houses and Newmachar are lovely but they are a couple of miles out the back and there is no safe way of walking into the village making us very car dependant so we are a bit put off so looks likely we will go for Kintore if we can get the house when it goes for sale.

Happy Birthday Kate wow and a car what a lovely present.

Kipper i hate all those things as well and i force my DH to deal with them!

DD has been trying to crawl the last couple of days and just getting angry at herself so has decided that she will just stay put and let her DS get everything for her

well better go and stop talking rubbish and get some bits done DH got a new TV today (could have murdered him) so i think i will have to take things out my living room so it will fit MEN!!!

suzi2 · 13/06/2006 19:36

Josey - the chippy in Newmachar is pretty good Grin if that sways you at all lol! The one in Whiterashes is better though. Or they certainly used to be good.

Kintore is nice. It seems to get better weather than most places although knowone every knew why!

queenrollo · 13/06/2006 19:50

kipper......ds was born 5th August, i've had a name change since the early days. i was moschops before........

josey · 14/06/2006 08:58

hehe Thanks Suzi my cousin has informed me about the chippy and it was a swaying point to start with but the houses are being build i think its in the old hospital ground and there just noway of walking anywhere so im probably being selfish but have been put right off it - funny you should say that as it was close to rain in Newmachar and lovely and sunny in Kintore!! It like Aviemore its a bermuda triangle when it bad its very bad and when its good its fantastic

PanicPants · 14/06/2006 09:16

Queenrolle - your ds can take his nappy off? Shock Oh God, hope my ds never learns that little trick!

I also keep the fan on all night in ds's room, and one in ours too.

Kipper - I know it's only 2 days in July, I'm really hoping I can get on with my own preparations, but somehow don't think I'll be that lucky. I just know the senco (whose also dep head) will sudenly need those 2 days to do something and I'll be stuck with her class :(). Still it is only 2 days and it'll mean I won't feel so bitter doing my planning and being in school during the holidays as I'm being paid!

Kate - happy belated birthday - a car, wow! what sort? Am showing this to dp later as it's my birthday on june 26th :o

ds sucks his thumb too, but i'm not overly worried.

ds has been off his food all week so i'm hoping the change in weather will help.

Just a quick moan, especially to the teachers, in bed last night I was asking dp if he could have take ds for a few hours at the weekend so I could start to organize planning and bits for schools, (you know, labelling records/books/drinkslabels/peg labels etc etc)and he says well I wouldn't have to if you weren't going back. I said what do you mean, I thought you wanted me to go back and that we couldn't afford it, and dp then ]says, that he never wanted me to go back!!!!!! Of course it's too bloody late now. I'm fuming Angry

PanicPants · 17/06/2006 20:12

Where are you all? Can't believe noones been on since wednesday!

:)

suzi2 · 17/06/2006 21:13

lol panicpants... I was thinkin the same but couldn't think of anything meaningful to post.

Perhaps you could all help with a current baby problem...

\link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?rn=14994&topicid=5&threadid=183545&redir=14994\crawling in cot}

any thought appreciated. DS is also cutting his first teeth (about 6 trying to come through at once) so I'm up loads in the night and am shattered. So tackling the crawling in cot thing is harder. I'm also a teeny bit pregnant and that's starting to take it's toll on the tiredness too. Please tell me I'm not the only one still getting up 3 times a night and feeding during the night??? Sad

PanicPants · 17/06/2006 22:37

Ooh Congratulations Suzi2, how far gone are you? Your making me broody!

Right well, we've also had the crawling in cot problem, especially the, standing up at the bars and screaming even before you've got to the door, problem.

We solved this, for us, using gro bags. Which was fine until the weather turned. So someone very helpful on mumsnet suggested a 0.5 tog grobag, which we ordered from the internet and it arrived in 2 days! It's very thin, very much like a sheet. You can use it at 24 - to about 27/28 degrees.

Ds can still sort of shuffle about in them, but can't pull himself up. It also seems to comfort him, as before we had the very thin one, he couldn't seem to settle in just a nappy and t-shirt, but once a gro-bags on him, he just rolls over and goes to sleep. I think he associates them with going to sleep.

Other than that, I would suggest going cold turkey and grinning and bearing it for a day or two before it settles down.

As for the teeth, rub in some teething gel, and give some calpol on very bad nights. But if they're coming through together it might mean it will be horrible for a while but short lived.

Good luck!

suzi2 · 18/06/2006 17:19

I'm jsut past 5 wks - so a long long way to go! unfortunately, DS can manage just fine in his grobags Grin. But, last night he woke 10pm so we popped him in the cot for a bit of cold turkey... 30 mins was all it took. He cried, stood, cruised, crawled etc but never got too distressed. Then he gave in and went to sleep. He woke at 2:30am and 5am (as per usual lately!) for a feed and went back down with only 10 mins fuss. This morning he was shattered and went down with minimal fuss too. So I'm hoping that the worst of the bad cot stuff is over.

He got his first tooth on Thurs but it has since reswollen over. Today he has another one. And another 2 blood blisters. He has has a MOLAR right at the very back that is closer than most of his other teeth. I think that might be what is causing the trouble!

Miaou · 18/06/2006 18:09

Hi folks, just a quick post today - must read back and catch up on all your news!

Ds is really developing a personality and sense of humour now. He sits in his high chair and hides behind his cup, plays peek-a-boo with us! He can also now say daddy (daaiee) and mummy (mumma) which is soooo cute. He kind of crawls around - mostly backwards though! STILL no teeth, but he eats all the same food as we do now, I just cut it up a bit more. He loves strong tastes - his favourite meal is curry and I've just introduced him to mature cheddar which has gone down well! His two RL contemporaries each have teeth and one is walking Shock. Ds still doesn't move around in his cot though - sympathies suzi! - very occasionally he turns himself over but that's it.

Hope you are all well!

suzi2 · 18/06/2006 19:27

miaou - how hot would you say the curry is? DS has shown interest in some stronger and more 'complex' flavours so I thought of making him curry. But I'm a bit worried about how much kick to give it. DH and I eat chilli in everything so I'm not even sure that our tastebuds would register with mild... Be thankful for the no teeth... DS has just 2 wee points poking through and already it really hurt when he nipped me when feeding!

josey · 18/06/2006 20:17

congrats Suzi though how you had the time or energy when your still up 3 times a night is impressing me Grin DS used to sleep crawl and i was advised by HV just to leave him to it so not much help sorry!

Well we reserved a house yesterday will be ready for next sping! [nail bitting emoticon] so we will certainly be putting off having number 3 for a little while - i think im still in shock that we have actually done it to start being excited

we have a new word Dindin at meal times and if your not quick enough with the next spoon she growls dindin! its really funny, does anyones else have lo that pull cheeky faces? DD has a face where she screws up her eyes and nose and kind of sticks her chin out while showing her guns then sticks her tounge out when she finishes she gives a really cheeky smile and bursts out laughing and we cant help but laugh as well im hoping that she is just doing it cause it makes people laugh and not because she knows she is cheeky!!Shock

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 18/06/2006 20:25

I've got a sleep crawler, too. We finally had to just take her out of her crib, because she would just crawl and bang her head in it and get bruises and put her in the travel bed because it has soft mesh sides.

We're in the process of moving right now. We're moving into a kind of yucky rental, and am not thrilled. We bought a house in our final destination, but won't be able to move up there until September. The house up there is only 2 years old and has a big yard and is just beautiful, so it is really hard to move down here.

DD is doing really well at crawling now. She can stand on her own for a few seconds and can cruise all over holding onto things. She's getting her 7th tooth, but looks odd, because when it totally comes in, she will have 5 on top and 2 on the bottom. It is still such a blast to watch the 2 of them together.

Congratulations Suzi on your pregnancy. I'm sorry you are getting up 3x a night. I thought I had it tough because Caitlin's still up about once a night, but I don't have to even feed her, so why am I complaining?

bramblina · 18/06/2006 21:14

Shock I checked in here a couple of times to catch up but didn't add anything- the last 2 weeks have been hectic and now I'm snowed under with everyone's news! Forgive me if I miss anyone out but oh boy aren't the los growing up fast?
Josey, ds is entered in the Bonnie Babies (Blush said I'd never do that), in the highland news, it will be a better pic than the Ross-Shire one. And re hairclips- I wish! Dh would NOT be happy! He wouldn't let me put tights on ds in the winter!
I sympathise with those of you struggling with your baby weight but I've gone the other way- I'm being told too often for my liking I'm too thin and haven't I lost loads of weight! You really can't win! I wonder is that a polite way of saying I was chubby before?! I think I may put a bit back on when I stop feeding though (Think may feed ds till he's 12...hmmm...)Azure, maybe the person offering you the seat knew you had a lo and din't get to sit down very often?! Just tying to make you feel better.
Panicpants ds does stand on his tiptoes a lot actually, and really fans his toes out which is really cute. He's good with his feet, uses them whenever arms don't reach! Or if he can't be bothered trying!
C&C's mommy, where are you off to? It will be lovely come September.
Twiga, where are you? I would like to meet up with MNers, and hopefully will get round to it one day. Josey, are you the other side of Dingwall to me?
Tigerlion, I did notice ds ate so much less when it was hot (it's left us now in the north...never stays for long!) and drinking SO much more water. But then, he was ill just a few days later so it could have been that. My Mum did say the heat affects their appetite though. You could put the fan on a timeswitch if you're not keen to leave it on all night?
I stood back and looked at ds in his cot, asleep. a few weeks ago, and realised how big he is, not a baby anymore, I forget. Daft..? He weighed 22lbs 12oz on Tues and is 73cm- he's grown 20cm since birth! He had his FOURTH haircut yesterday (my sister is a hairdresserGrin) and it's getting so fair, he was almost black at birth. Still 7 teeth, and no sign of that 8th one, he's lop sided! He now leans forward from sitting and gets (slowly) on to all fours, only to reach for something (too lazy to do it without reason LOL!) and if said item is further out of reach he will move his hands a couple of steps, just can't do the same with his knees so ends up on his belly, stuck! Then just sort of dances and moans till we right him! I teach him to roll but he hates to lie now as it's so restricting! Unfortunately he came a cropper from this development last week- he was sitting in the middle of the bed while I tidied up, turned my back for one second and he took a tumble Sad poor poppet got more of a fright than anything, fortunately we have a very thick bedroom carpet, which eased my guilt (slightly). Once he'd calmed down I sat him on the floor with his toys, but he pulled himself forward, opened my bedside drawers, tried to pull up on the 2nd one, I held on to it, he sat back down, closed the drawer, and jammed his finger! Shock I think we were both glad to get out of there! 2 days later he got a good hold of the dog in the kitchen, she kept walking, he kept hold, she dragged him along and when he finally let go fell sideways and banged his head on the skirting board! Oh heavens I know it will get worse but I feel so sorry for him!
We went through to my Mum's a week past Thursday to meet dh and went swimming though which was brilliant! Ds loved it, and the family changing rooms really made a difference. (There was a girl in...she was 4 days overdueShock!) We're going again this Fri, can't wait. We came home for a couple of days then went back through to help my auntie move house, poor ds got the most awful cold the day we went through, brought up all his dinner, running nose like you wouldn't believe, and sounding like Darth Vader. He had been sleeping through but since then he's woken at night. Twice when he was really unwell, and once for the last couple of nights. All the travelling, illness and palava has really cocked things up, he wasn't in his bed till 9 one of the nights, and with waking up would sleep later, on Friday he slept till 10! Lovely lie in but dh was going away to work at 12 so time was limited, again Sad.

Just when I thought ds was getting better, he sobbed and sobbed last night, and wouldn't let me put him in his cot- he fell asleep in my arms at 9pm. Woke at 3 for a feed and slept on till 9.30am!Shock He only had a nap around midday though, so fell asleep on his last feed, who knows when we'll be up in the morning! My Dad was up this weekend too so there's been lots for him to grasp, we went through to my sister's yesterday, and today had a visit from dh's bro and sis which ds hasn't seen in about 4 months. Ooooh his head must be spinning...
So, Suzi, how wonderful for you, hope you have an easy pregnancy. As I said I have been feeding through the night. Ds had been sleeping through the previous 3 weeks to that though, and off and on before that. I do wonder if it will ever become "regular" IYSWIM as broken sleep can be a bit annoying, but on top of that exhausted pregnant feeling, I hope it ends for you soon. I often wonder if I'm not feeding ds enough solids through the day- his appetite really shot up 2 weeks ago, but then that ties in with him getting more mobile. I had a panic about not offering ds enough bm when his solids increased but the dr told me babies are incredibly clever at controlling their intake, so I guess if he needs it he needs it, my only worry is it may turn in to a habit.
Think I've overstayed my welcome again! Have a good week everyone! Wink

bramblina · 18/06/2006 21:15

ShockBlush I'm getting worse!
