Here's the new place to chat about all our wonderful babies, while they still are babies.

Kate100 - yes they said 'our' children wouldn't cope well with the changes!! Won't go into to it now, but I was livid. Still at least I got my own back in a way, as I start back again on 23rd July, so work for 2 days and then it's the holidays! I will be looking for a part time post for January.

Congrats for you interview. Thats tough, 15 minutes? Have they given you any other input other than the Learning Objective? I assume it will have to be a whole class session on the carpet or are you expected to diffentiate etc? What sort of cultural differences? AND WHENS IT FOR?

Well heres my update on ds. He has moved on in leaps and bounds over the last week or two. Today he started to crawl properly for the first time. He's so funny he makes the very tiniest little pigeon crawling steps, but can half cover some ground, and chuffs like a trian while he's doing it!
He can also push himself up to sitting from laying down.

He has 7 teeth and has started to babble properly now, proper sounds and not just noise. He says 'ba ba ba ba', 'ma, ma ,ma ,ma' and 'da, da, da,'

We've been away for the bank holiday weekend and he was very unsettled during that time, and wouldn't eat a thing, the same for when we were in the Isle of Wight.

kate100 · 04/06/2006 13:15

Azure, my ds2 loves his big brother too and would love to play with him, but doesn't know how.

Panicpants that's rubbish, but all to common. When I went back to my last school after having ds1, my head said, 'Well I have to give you part time hours as the previous head set a precedent' I think what she really meant was I don't want to. Her treatment of me made it very clear she wasn't interested in maintaining any part time members of staff and I left when I was pregnant with ds2. Anyway, the interview is on Wednesday and the info I put on here is all that I have. DH has taken the boys out today so I can prepare and I've done nothing yet!! I've even got to go in the loft and get things I need out of there as all of my work stuff is up there. Dh thinks there's so much up there it'sgoing to bring dowm the ceiling. Must get to work now

kate100 · 04/06/2006 13:18

Nearly forgot, ds2 can walk behind his walker now. We haven't shown him how he just started doing it yesterday, the only problem is he can't turn round so runs into trouble quite quickly!

Hi Twiga, I'm in Scotland too, though far up north on the west coast. Too far for the meet up anyway!
Ds has come on leaps and bounds this month. He was 10 months yesterday. He can now go forwards in his walker (am I the only one who owns one? Is everyone else against them?) and goes from sitting to leaning over sideways on his hands like he's going to take off and crawl...then sits bak up again! I should be grateful as most of the house is still in place! He now loves playing with his lips and making a noise- you know when you do that thing babies do (?!) and loves it. If we ask him what Bramble (our dog, hence my name) says, he tells us "oof!" He tnses his muscle too, in his arms and tightens his fist, with excitement I think, very cute. He will now grab the dog or cat with all his might whenever they walk past, unfortunately tonight it was the dog, she carried on walking, he didn't let go, and his head landed sideways on a piece of skirting board on a corner Sad poor thing, just wanted the dog and got a bash on the head. He walks really well now if we hold his hands. He tries to let go though, which really doesn't work well!
A friend at M&T last week told us she's 3 months pregnant....her little girl is only 5 months oldShock.
Our weather just got better and better this afternoon, so when we came home from M&T I stripped ds down to his vest, lathered him in sun cream, put a hat on him and we sat on the patio and ate watermelon! I cut it in to nice long strips for him and he had a ball. Of course the camera and camcorder came out. (Anyone else as snap happy as me?) We had the tortoise out too, -an hour later remembered I'd left him at the bank edge Blush so ran round the croft, (not quite all 4 acres!) vest clad babe at hip looking for him, only to find he had burried himself down about 6 foot from where I'd left him! Got a bit of a Shock. Panic over.
Speaking of which, Panicpants, until lastnight I read your name as Pancipants- until I saw you on another thread! Blush sorry!
Ds woke at 4 this morning, but had been sleeping through for a week or two. Every night is so different, does anyone else find this? It can be midnight, 2am, 4am, 6 am, or he can sleep till 7 or 8am, today he was back down for his nap by 10am and slept for over an hour! Some days it's 20 minutes! I just can hardly believe that some babies are like clockwork- mine sure aint! Yes Twiga, the bf sure has advantages!
Better go before I get carried away again! Have a good week, y'all. Smile

suzi2 · 05/06/2006 22:30

Bramblina - our nights are a hit or miss too. Just when I think we have a pattern emerging, things change!

Twiga - I might need to go to that meetup if it stays relatively local to me! It would be good if someone I 'knew' was there!

DS is driving me potty! he's pulling up on anything and everything. he even puts his feet and hands flat on the floor and tries to stand without support. The problem is that his ambition outweighs his ability. I keep taking my eyes off him for 2 secs and he's standing (and falling hard) somewhere. I did think that since he can't really crawl then we'd be OK. But he goes onto his belly, does a 180 degree turn and then sits back up in a new, nearer furniture, position. Besdies this, he wants to be on his feet all the time and expects me to walk him around the house to chase the cat or get to the DVD player. He screams when he has to lie down for nappy changes or when I have to sit him down.

Someone please tell me this phase doesn't last long?

bramblina - that's him awake just now...! Grin

queenrollo · 06/06/2006 08:46

took ds to the beach for the first time on Sunday and he loved it.....and he didn't eat any sand. they were have a powerkiting competition and there were loads of surfer typres about, ds was particularly impressed with a bloke with really long dredlocks.
last night i decided to see if i could get ds to go to sleep on his own (dp puts him to bed usually, and we have to cuddle him till he drops off)......not a chance.....he played for a bit then started standing up and then screamed for an hour. think i'll leave it till he's a bit older!

weather is beautiful here......wish now i had a proper garden to sit in....

kate100 · 06/06/2006 10:43

Nice to hear from you Twiga Smile

Got my intervire tomorrow and I'm very nervous, I don't think I'll get it but I'll let you know how I go.

DS2 is such a happy thing at the moment, he seems to find everything so exciting and interesting, makes a nice change from ds1 who is being a holy terror at the moment Sad where has my lovely little boy gone?

Glad everyone is enjoying the nice weather, it's beautiful here too Smile

bramblina · 06/06/2006 11:42

Good luck Kate!

Azure · 06/06/2006 13:13

Good luck with the interview Kate.

OP posts:
kipper22 · 06/06/2006 13:14

good luck! hope you managed to come up with a good lesson plan - been trying to think for you for 2 days but, unfortunately, my brain is now officially mush!

PanicPants · 06/06/2006 17:30

Queenrollo - I bet your lo loved being on the beach, ds certainly did but tried to eat the pebbles! On the sandy beach he just sat and examined the sand stuck on his fingers for ages!

KAte - good luck for your interview tomorrow, sorry I wasn't any help but haven't got a clue! Take lots of stickers in with you and sticker at every opportunity, then at least you'll have the behaviour sorted out.

Susie2 that sjust like my ds, except hes crawling instead of the walking. He's not content with sitting, or being cuddled, all he wants to do is explore. He only started crawling properly on saturday and it's been a nightmare ever since. We have had to go and buy every safety device on the market as he has just realised that he can open cupboards, pull clothes down from radiators, can pull himself up onto furniture, stick fingers in sockets etc etc. Things that were safe aren't anymore. We had a blow up ring/nest thing which he used to sit in and play with his toys, but now he knows he can crawl out of it and he's already bashed his head 3 times on our wood floor where he topples out of it! NIGHTMARE!!!

Lol at Pancipants bramblina!

Josey - have you had your hen night yet?

Azure - have you heard back from your 4 day working week request yet?

josey · 06/06/2006 21:26

good luck with the interview Kate

Brambalina your wee boy looks lovely-i was trying to work out before you said which one you were and i thought that your lo must be about 18months I think it was his hair that through me though.

What a lovely day today has been it was school sports day poor ds woke up and wretched in the loo for 10mins he was so worked up he got 3rd in one race so he is delighted he is one of the youngest in his class and it shows alot of the time so he did really well - unfortunately mum got a bit too much sun!!!!

I always feel as though my dd is so far behind when i read this thread - she isnt standing yet even when you hold her im starting to wonder if the problem she had with her foot when born is causing her delay - she discovered the other night how to slide across the floor backwards and she hated every min of it!!!she is a very good speaker though she has a few words now dada mama and iya(ds always says hiya to her) so when he comes in from school she shouts iya - she also says yeah and nu and if you have something of her and she wants it she says annas which is probably as far as she will get with Rhianna for a long time she does the whole tata waving etc but doesnt always say it-so really she is a typical woman that likes to sit on her bum and talk all the time hahaha

Twiga im going to aberdeen on thursday to meet dh from work we are going to go to Newmachar as there are new houses being built there, im not too sure on the Aberdeen area at all but have been told its lovely there - will have to meet up at some point for sure and bramablina when your down we must try and meet too

josey · 06/06/2006 21:30

sorry panicpants the hen night was a few weeks ago it was the 13th of May it was brilliant champange cocktails limo and a lovely mexican meal it was so nice to eat out and not wear my dinner or ddsGrin saying that i probably did wear some of it with my champange lack of co-ordination!!! the wedding is in a few weeks though its in italy leaving the kids with mum for the weekend (little happy dance emoticons)really looking forward to it though i will probably be a mess and miss the kids too much!!
by the way i think i was calling you pancipants as well whooops!

queenrollo · 07/06/2006 08:21

josey.....your dd says a lot more than my ds...he babbles all the time but the only thing he says that is recognisable is 'aggy' which is the cat's name. my friend is a great believer that a child can only work on developing one thing at a time, and i have to say ds went through a lazy physical stage but in that time learnt loads of new noises. now he's up on his feet he seems to have stopped developing vocally.
he banged his head yesterday....Sad and i felt so bad for him but after crying for about 45 seconds he went back to chasing the cat. i'm worn out from following him round as he cruises the furniture....he wants to stand all the time but has no balance control.

nice and sunny again here today.....am going to the Sure start singing group this afternoon, will be nioce to get out and about.

kate100 · 07/06/2006 09:29

Thanks for all the good luck messages everyone, I'm terrified. However, DH has a meeting this afternoon about the severance package for the sale of the business and I'm more worried about him than I am for myself. I don't think I'll get it but I'm going to go along anyway. I'm reassured that the othet teachers on here found thinking about the teaching task as difficult as me and all my other teacher friends. I hope I haven't missd the point.

DS2 is in a bit of a state this morning. He had real trouble settling himself to sleep last night, which is very unusula for him and DH and I were in to him until about 9 last night. Then he woke early this morning and as soon as we heard him we went to him as he'd been so unsettled last night and he has scratched his little face so much, he's covered in angry red scratches, poor little man. He was so tired whn he finished his breakfast I out him back to bed at 8 this morning. I don't know how it happened, but I feel very bad about it Sad

Azure · 07/06/2006 12:12

Poor DS2 Kate - maybe he sensed it was a big day for you and DH. DS1 used to scratch himself a lot, which looked awful but faded really quickly.

I've finally heard today that my four days per week has been approved! Hurrah! Unfortunately the next couple of weeks are my busy weeks at work (budgets, quarter-end, SOX auditors, for any other accountants out there) and so I'll have to work the Monday anyway. I just have to make sure my salary calculation includes the 10 or so additional Mondays I'll have to work per year (unfortunately any weekend work at busy times will continue to be unpaid). Still, I'm really pleased.

Hi all, trying hard to be better at posting on here regularly Smile. If anyone is looking for some new food ideas for their wee ones, I've just started this thread to share a couple of recipes which have been a big hit with dd over the last couple of weeks \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=2400&threadid=180727&stamp=060607205840\recipes}

Suzi2 - would be great to see you at the meet-up, details still not confrimed yet but will let you know.

Bramblina - shame you're too far away to come but if you ever fancy a more northerly meet-up...

Queenrollo - the beach sounds like it was just perfect, glad your ds enjoyed it. Hope you had fun singing today and that you were suitably silly Wink.

Kate - was thinking of you today, hope the interview went well and dh's meeting too.

Josey - Newmachar is a nice area, primary school is meant to be good. Not too far from us in Bridge of don area. Hope you find somewhere really lovely. Well done to your ds on doing so well at sports day - shame he was so sick in the morning, poor wee lad. Italy, wow, will be nice to have some time as a couple - dh and I are just hanging out for the end of the month when the in-laws visit so we can go out for dinner toether for the first time since dd arrived - we desparetly need a "date"!

Azure - fab news Grin!

suzi2 · 07/06/2006 21:51

Met a baby at swimming who is a week younger than DS and DS looks about 5 months younger than him! It makes me realise just how wee DS is! I was telling the other mum how DS was into cruising and walking with support but that his ambition exceeded his ability. And I also said to two people today that he has no intention of crawling - he's happy to go onto him tummy but just sits himself back up or shuffles backwards. He's been doing this for ages.

But, just to make a liar of me, he actually CRAWLED tonight Grin at 10 months and 1 day. Out of the blue. The red knees over the last few days and finding him in unexplained places after a few seconds would suggest he may have been doing it a few days, but we just didn't realise! Must do major babyproofing tomorrow. I obviously tempted fate today when I said to my mum "we don't need a stairgate - I'll buy one when he actually gets mobile"...

Twiga · 07/06/2006 21:53

Hurrah - well done Suzi2's ds Grin!

josey · 07/06/2006 22:18

well done to your ds suzi
good new azure you must be delighted
Kate hope all went well today and you ds is feeling a bit better.

twiga you must be quite close to my dh cousins she has recently moved to seaview close i think its called they are reasonably new barrats houses if you take a left at the round about past the buckpool farm (think thats what its called)then a right by the church - hope im in the right area and not making a plum of myself haha
I have done some reading on the school and it looks very good, another area we have been looking at is Kintore and it has a fantastic new school and handy for dh office which is at westhill - im dreading the drive on my own tomorrow hope its another nice day the last time i drove that road i had to pull in the rain was so heavy i could no longer see the white lines in the road - starting to get nervous about the whole thing and we havent fully decided if we are going to go or not!!!
the next time your in aberdeen you should get your Dh to take you a run to the fantastic show house by the furniture shop at inverurie wow thats lotto material and i think it has become a day out for people just to nose at Grin

suzi2 · 08/06/2006 08:09

Josey - I would recommend Oldmeldrum... (only because I grew up there and have a soft spot for it!). Great sweet shop though. And the primary school came out as one of the top 10 in Scotland according to the Sunday Times a few years ago!

Twiga · 08/06/2006 09:23

Yup, Josey, that's not far from us - Buckie Farm is affectionately known as Turkey Farm amongst our pals after one of them misheard when we were going for a drink there one time. I love Inverurie - the swimming pool there is ace for taking little ones to as they have an under fives pool which is lovely and warm - dd spends a good half hour in at a time. Also Land of Nod is a nice nursery shop - pricey but nice for a look around. Not overly familiar with Kintore or Oldmeldrum but have heard good things about both.

kate100 · 08/06/2006 09:49

Thanks for all your thoughts, but I didn't get the job, I'm not too disappointed though. DH's meeting went well though and i might not have to go back to work just yet anyway, so it might have been a good thing in a way. DH is really pleased that all the uncertainty is over and we can get on with being together a bit more Smile He's got a new job starting in September and he's off out tonight to have dinner with his old boss who's offered him a new job and some other friends from work.

DS2 is starting to chat, he says mama all the time and he's experimenting with different sounds, he's also learned to wave bye, clever thing. His scratches are much better this morning, he looks a bit prettier again, he looked like a prize fighter yesterday morning Grin

The weather is beautiful here today and I'm going to tke ds2 for a swim in the outdoor pool this afternoon while ds1 is at pre-school. Then tomorrow morning my mum and dad are going to have ds2 so I can take ds1 for a swim. I'm not brave enought o try it with both of them, I don't think I have enough arms!! We're all going to go on Monday though as DH is off for my birthday.

Azure, that's great news about your job, a long weekend every week, lucky you!

Twiga, I know what you mean about needing a date, DH and I haven't been out for ages, although more recently than you and your DH!

Suzi2, what a clever boy!! DS1 used to do that to me all te time, someone would ask me if he could do soething and I'd say no and he'd do it the next day, little rascal!

Azure · 08/06/2006 13:38

Kate sorry to hear you didn't get the job. Glad DH's meeting went well, though. Suzi, how lovely you have a crawler - DS2 is not there yet, but anxious to be on the move.

I know I need to lose a bit of weight and even signed up on online WeightWatchers on Sunday, but this morning on the tube someone offered me their seat Shock. I didn't point out that I wasn't pregnant (just refused her politely), but how's that for plummeting self-esteem.
