Here's the new place to chat about all our wonderful babies, while they still are babies.

Can't help it, I'm back again, have just done my first profile but haven't got a recent picture on the computer, here's the \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1700&threadid=183988\link} anyway!

Miaou · 18/06/2006 22:37

suzi the curry is quite hot - it's how we like it but mild enough for the dds to eat too - but not a "mild" curry if you see what I mean! He kind of shudders whilst he eats it and pulls hilarious faces but always opens his mouth like a little sparrow for more!

PanicPants · 19/06/2006 09:49

Miaou thats so sweet. I take it you cook the curry yourself? Whats the recipe if you don't mind me asking?

I'd love to start introducing ds to everyday foods now, not just mush from the freezer. The trouble is dp and I eat a lot of quorn which isn't suitable for ds until he's 2 I think, so I need lots of ideas of meals thats suitable for all 3 of us.

Miaou · 19/06/2006 10:02

Blush no panicpants, I can't cook for toffee, it's dh who does all the cooking! And he doesn't follow recipes, he just chucks a load of stuff in, so not much help I'm afraid! He puts lots of raisins, peppers, crushed pineapple, etc in it (chicken curry btw). Sorry, probably not much help!

PanicPants · 19/06/2006 10:06

Oo you lucky thing! Nevermind! I'll start a thread and see if anyone else has any recipes!

kipper22 · 19/06/2006 11:48

Congratulations on the pregnancy Suzi2! As for your problems with your DS, ours is the same. He'll often fall asleep whilst having his milk, keep his eyes closed looking peaceful allthe way upstairs then start kicking his legs and climbing up as soon as we step away from the cot. We've been staying with friends this weekend where DS had a travel cot in the front room. He was snoring before I put him down, 5 minutes later we were watching him tear around the cot like a caged animal (do you remember the Tazmanian Devil cartoons? I think that is Charlie!) Maybe I'll try the thin gro-bag as PP suggests.

Congrats too to Josey and C&Cmommy on the houses and to Bramblina on having such a handsome young man!

Congratulations on the pregnancy Suzi2 and what a cutie Bramblina. Re feeding at nights I believe in most cases that it is habit rather than hunger at this stage. For both DS1 and DS2 within a week of my stopping a nightfeed (just going in and patting them rather than getting them out of the cot) they were sleeping through the night. I had gradually diluted the bottlefeeds for a time beforehand to ensure that they were not getting nutrition at night, I have to admit, but that was at 8 months rather than now.

DS2 has his 3rd and 4th teeth but isn't properly on the move yet. He can roll around a bit but is unhappy on his hands and knees. He loves standing up - especially in the bath, which continues to be a challenge to prevent him drowning himself. Nappy changes are equally as fraught - he refuses to lie still. As for mealtimes, they've just turned into a warzone - he just wants to do it all himself and grabs anything within reach before dropping it on the floor (his highchair doesn't have a tray, but is up against the table). The mess surrounding him at lunchtime was unbelivable. I gave him fingerfood for tea (picnic in the garden), which then ended up all over the picnic mat. Where has my little docile baby gone???

Just seen your picture of ds brambalina - what a cutie. Here's one of my ds on the beach at the beginning of may. It's lovely to be putting the names to the faces.

have a look at\link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1700&threadid=174871&stamp=060521201606\this}

bramblina · 19/06/2006 16:24

Woah! Get stuck in there! Looks like a load of fun! What a cracker. Wink

suzi2 · 19/06/2006 20:30

What a cutie he is panicpants! I haven't taken Logan to the beach as i fear he would just eat sand Grin. as for the quorn thing... Do you live beans? I was veggie for 15 yrs and made lots of meals with borlotti or black eyed beans (or similar). That way you could offer your DS some too.

Azure, I feel for you with the wanting to stand thing. Logan was like that so much. he wouldn't tolelrate being on his tum and just wanted to 'walk' around the house (me doubled over holding his hands!) or once he could pull up he was cruising everything. But then he crawled completely out of the blue and isn't so fussed about standing all the time which is much easier. Still, nappy changes with a crawling baby aren't much easier!

Azure · 20/06/2006 10:32

Lobely picture Panicpants. I can't wait to go to the seaside with DS2 when we're on holiday next month.

Azure · 20/06/2006 10:35

Suzi2 - it'll be interesting to see if DS2 does suddenly crawl. I don't think I'm prepared for when he does finally move, but I'm looking forward to it (maybe rashly).

Agree with changing a nappy on a crawling baby is a nightmare, ditto with dressing and undressing. I now have to do all nappy changes and clothe changes on ds' high changing mat as luckily he doesn't attempt to struggle, roll over or try and crawl away on it!

Dp's away at the moment in the Lake district on a team building course i.e., jolly up, with work so it's just me and ds at the moment. Ds was awful yesterday, really wingey and grumpy, hopefully he won't be like that today, although the last 2 mornings he's ahd me up at 6am - something he never normally does when dp's here. Do you think he may be unsettled because dps away?

Suzi2 - ds didn't try and eat the sand, but we did go to a pebble beach one day and he tried to eat the pebbles constantly, all you could hear was his lovely new teeth scrapping on the pebbles. We had to leave in the end!

I do use a lot a beans in cooking, and lentils, etc. But we're not veggie it's just that I don't like meat and I hate cooking it. But I do want ds to have meat so I am doing things like beef stew now and again.

Because I never cooked meat I guess I'm not that confident at making sure it's cooked thoroughly so ds won't be ill (yes I know I'm very neurotic) I did make a chilli with mince to freeze for ds, the other day, but on the packet it said not to freeze it, so in the end just dp ate it and I didn't give any to ds.

bramblina · 20/06/2006 12:21

Funny you say that Panicpants, about ds being unsettled while dh is away- my dh has worked away (usually a week at a time) since January and on the odd occasion if ds isn't himself dh thinks it's because he's not there (he just wants that to be the reason!) and low and behold when dh comes home, ds is great. Mostly to do with sleeping through, but I think when that's the case he sleeps through when dh is home as ds is more tired whereas when it's just the two of us we do the same things and I think he could do with someone else's stimulation sometimes.

PanicPants · 20/06/2006 19:34

Bramblina thats quite a good theory, as when dps here he does the bath/bed routine and plays quite a bit in the bath with ds, whereas I just want him in bed asap as I've had him all day!

pookey · 20/06/2006 20:00

Hi sorry not read all the messages yet but just wanted to say suzi you are not alone with night feeds! Congrats on pregnancy - the night feeding is what is putting me off getting tubbed so respec! Hi all by the way x

suzi2 · 20/06/2006 20:05

lol Pookey. I figure that at some point we might have to go cold turkey on the night feeding. Can't handle feeding 2 in the night! Grin

Miaou · 20/06/2006 20:46

Hooray! Ds finally sussed how to crawl forwards today Smile. He is so chuffed with himself (as am I Wink). He will also respond really well to being told "no" - he shakes his head and moves away - awwwww!

bramblina · 20/06/2006 21:12

Envy Miaou! Not yet, but I'm sure we all will be one day!

Panicpants, I second what you say about getting ds off to bed- but it's the only time we get peace (or even just to do the ironing)! Grin

suzi2 · 20/06/2006 21:12

Aw - well done Miaous DS! And how cool is the understanding No thing? DS just cries and throws a wobbly if I say no and take him away from something!

queenrollo · 21/06/2006 08:13

yesterday ds dragged our broom round the house all day....he loves it, and screams if he drops it and can't get to it, or if i take it off him.

Suzi.....congratulations!! i would love another eventually, but i just don't think i could cope with two little ones. i feel like i'm just about managing with ds.

queenrollo · 21/06/2006 10:38

ds got his first injury this morning he banged his face on the floor and all i could see was a pool of blood.....when i picked him up there was blood pouring out of his mouth.

he won't let me get a proper look but he's cut the inside of his top lip on his teeth....... he didn't seem too bothered about it afterwards though. and i'm very proud of myself for not running straight round to the doctors with him!!

bramblina · 21/06/2006 10:57

Oh QR, the first is always going to be the worst, isn't it? Well done for coping so well!

Miaou · 21/06/2006 16:20

queenrollo, it's awful when they hurt themselves, isn't it?

Well ds cut his first tooth today! At 10.5months - not in a hurry is he!!!
