Grin Brambalina.

Kate, you can have all the sunshine you want. I loathe summers here. 2/3 of the days are over 100, and the rest are in the 90's. I'll take rain over that any day. Sorry to hear about your DS's croup. DS gets croup also, and I know how horrible it can be having done the hospital thing myself.

Brambalina, I'm in a very small town in southern Oregon, USA. I'm going back home to Portland, the largest city in the state gladly. I miss having things to do. And the weather isn't nearly as hot.

Caitlin is so much happier now she can crawl. She's got a brand new personality. However she's now getting 4 teeth in, and won't sleep much at night.

Report
colinandcaitlinsmommy · 20/05/2006 23:20

Oh, I forgot. Caitlin loves balls right now. She loves to have DS throw them, and then she goes and chases them. She also has her own set of keys, and loves to chew on them.

we are struggling with toys for ds too.....he does love books but likes eating them as much as looking at them so i'm on the hunt for some good cloth/bath books at the moment. he just doesn't seem to 'play' he likes banging things.....anything and everything. and opening drawers......he's mainly happiest when he's on the floor and i chase him on my hands and knees. we get hysterical laughter with that one!
he is pushing four teeth too and for the last week his nappies are awful, we had proper grown up poos until this week and they've gone back to a squidgy mess. not fun as ds won't stay still for a nappy change any more, it's a fight to get him clean before he rolls poo everywhere.

Bramblina.......know what you mean about not disrupting routine. ds goes to bed at 6.30-7pm and we only took him out once, to friends for dinner. we left there at 9 and he fell asleep in the car, but the next day he was just awful........we'd love to take him to friends evening BBQ's but i'm just too worried about the days after, trying to settle him again. and as dp is a drummer we'd love to start taking ds to gigs but i just think people will think i'm a bad mum for having my 9 month old out at that time of night. i have to admit i was a little naive about how much having ds would change my social life..........mainly because the way i feel about things has changed.

went to shops this morning after resolutely deciding not to go near church for mum and toddler group......shop assistant says it's definitely on because her daughter is there.....so i went down. only about six of us there, a couple of familiar faces (customers from when i had my business)and it was nice to spend an hour with some grown ups. now i'm getting out and about i feel much better.
cat is booked into the vets on thurs to be 'done' and my house will be bedlam at the weekend as we are replacing our bedroom windows.

Kate.....how did the baptism go?

thanks all for the advice for ds's chin - we've been alternating the vaseline & e45 & it seems to be clearing now. dh has spent the weekend teaching charlie to laugh like the count on sesame street - dh shouting '1, ah ah ah!' & ds echos the "ah ah ah" - very cute! did you receive the mumsnet calendar thingy about what they should be able to do at 9 months? we tried the 'brick experiment' with ds - gave him 1 which he started to chew. offered him a second so he threw the 1st at dh and chewed the 2nd. tried to give back the other one so he would have one in each hand but he used his to tap mine. there was just no way he was going to hold 2 bricks, let alone try to work out what to do with a 3rd!
panicpants - just been reading thread about reading with children at home & realised you must be a teacher ( am I very slow?!) what age do you teach? i find it strange when i see other teachers wasting their time on here - i always feel so guilty that this is what i do now! :} don't want you to think that i'm some kind of crazy stalker or anything, but judging by a bit iof careful thinking over UCM's email, i would guess i'm 4th on the list to recieve your book! looking forward to it!
kate100 & suzi2 - hope your lo's are feeling better & that the baptism was a success.
qr - so happy for you! did you have your hairdo in the end?
bramblina - i'm ashamed to say we are terrible aty keeping to ds's routine at the weekend - he seems ok with that though. like caitlin, ds also likes to play with balls and anything he can 'chuck' as hard as possible. likes for us to build a tower with bricks or stacking cups then he tries to throw things at it to knock it down. otherwise, as others have said, books, old magazines or just playing a bit rough with him!

Kate - hope the baptism was lovely, it rained when we had ds's too :(
Queenrollo, thats great that you finally made it too your mother and baby group, AND recognised people there!
Kipper, yes I'm a teacher (I guess you must be too then! What do you teach? You've probably already said, but my mind's like a sieve since ds' birth!) - although on mat leave at the moment, but due to go back properly in September. I will have a mixed Y1/2 class then. God I hope you're not expecting a 'classic' read or anything high brow! I can't decide what book to post, trouble is I'm trying to find one other people might not have read! Are you putting your name on your book so everyone else can see who its from?
It's such a luxury to have the time to be on mn when other teacher's are at work!! :o

I'm having a lovely time with ds at the moment. He rocks like mad and gets up onto his hands and feet, but no proper crawling or pulling up onto furniture yet. He has just cut his 7th tooth today and I think I see number 8 on it's way.
He's really smily and claps ALL the time!

We went to watch the rugby cup final final on saturday at cardif, and we left ds with my sister for the day. It's the first time we've left him for any length of time and I really missed him! But he didn't seem to miss us, and although I'm pleased he was ok, part of me felt sad that he didn't seem to notice we weren't there. How bad is that?

HI All
So much has happened over the past few months I havent had the time to look in as much as I would like but its good to see everyone is doing so well!

Well Ds2 is doing well he has had his bouts of illness which has stunted his growth a bit I think. He doesnt seem to like solids as much as we would like him to and is still breast feeding when ever he gets the oppertunity! He has 6 teeth all of which arrived within 2 weeks of each other which I guess is a blessing we are now awaiting two more so he is chewing on anything and anyone! He has been crawling and standing up for a while but we to have a wooden floor and have had a few falling over incidents we bought him some socks with rubber on the bottoms to help but thankfully he has got the hang of standing up now and crusing along the furniture with confidence. He has also found the stairs which has been a nightmare he is so quick one minute he is with me the next halfway up usually we can keep him away from them by closing the door but he hears the door open and is up them so quickly we have never bothered with a stairgate with the other two but this time we are going to have to.

We have the health visitor on wednesday to do his 9 month check it will be interesting to see what weight and height he is.

Queenrollo - All 3 of mine have been to many a gig as dh does the sound for a couple of bands. I think they have really benifited from going to the odd one or two they love the music and sometimes because they are used to it they fall asleep no matter how loud. No one has ever commented.

DS still isn't well Sad and the doctor says it's bronchiolitis. Anyone any experience of this? The doctor assured me that it would clear up soon. In the meantime poor DS won't even go to his bed as he ends up coughing and choking and panicking. It's taken over an hour to get him to go down, and no doubt he'll be up every half hour coughing and throwing up. No doubt we'll be watching DVDs at 3am again... I feel so sad for him that there's nothing else we can do. And he's still trying to be brave and forces a smile now and then Sad

Wow, what a lot of chat to catch up on!

DS2's Baptism was great. The weather was dreaful, it poured, the wind blew there was hail, but it didn't matter, we had a great time. DS2 was an angel, he looked very handsome in his white suit and ds1 was very good too. All our friends and family were there to share the day with us and we all had such a good time. It was exactly the happy family occasion that I hoped it would be. We also had some friends round for takeaway on Saturday while we watched Eurovision and it was great, I haven't laughed so much in a long time. Only problem I had was I over catered and all my friends had beef or turkey sandwiches for their lunch yesterday!!

The ds's still aren't properly well, they both have a cough that they can't seem to shake off, so we're off to the doctor's this afternoon to see what he has to say.

queenrollo, glad that you got to a mum and baby group, has it made you feel any better?

panicpants and kipper22, I'm a teacher too and probab;y going back in September, but as I only want to go part time and there are no part time jobs I imagine it will be supply for me.

On the toy front, ds2 loves anything that he can chew and anything ds1 is playing with, which has caused a few upsets. He loves banging his bricks together and he has a drum that lights up when you hit it and he loves that too. He also loves being read to, 'Zoom, Zoom Poppy Cat' is his favourite as he loves the noises that Dh makes when he reads it. He really laughs and claps his hands madly when he hears it.

pp &kate - I was teaching Reception before DS but took the plunge & sent in my letter of resignation last week. felt really sad - I'll miss the kids, most colleagues & job in general but not the staffroom politics & the paperwork. do you buy the tes? did you see the amazing cleaner who became a teacher a couple of weeks ago? that was my school - she used to be my ta (when she wasn't busy sucking up to the head) then took on my job & is apparently the best reception teacher they've ever had. nothing like feeling valued. sorry, whinge over! PP I told UCM I was sending Blackberry Wine by Joanne Harris and have been worrying what people will think of it ever since!

kipper and kate, you lucky things, I applied for part time (i.e., flexible working hours) and was turned down. So I had a choice of resign or full time, and I paniced about not having a job at all, so will give it ago, at least until christmas and see how I feel.

Kipper I'd have been annoyed too.I definitly wouldn't miss the staffroom politics or paper work either.

I've posted a Barbara Trapido book. Hope you enjoy it. I've haven't read yours so I'll look forward to it!

LOL JOsey! MIL brought the aper over lastnight, we're at the back on the left sitting on a stool in front of the window, ds is standing on my knee with the HUGE head of hair! We had friends round last night also, ds was in bed so by the pic in the paper they thought he looked about 4! The first sound Bob Pegg did was the wolf impression! He sure does love them!
Ds cut his 7th tooth yeaterday. Phew they're just not letting up! No bother really though so that's good.
Hi Dazie.
Suzi I hope the lo is better, poor thing Sad
Kate, glad the baptism went well in the end.
I found my niece's old toys in the loft my sis had passed on (she's 14 nowShock so they had a good overnight steep in Milton!) and came across the stacking rings- well ds stacked them all last week! I tapped on the one that was to go on next so he got them in the right order, but oh it was lovely, he got a round of applause at each one!
We went for a run with dh on Thursday in the lorry, up to Wick. Only 2 hrs each way so it was just enough, ds was ever so good, between the toys and snacks and a wee sleep up on top bunk, a lovely family day out! Ha!Grin

taking ds to HV for his check this afternoon.....the one they've been calling his 6-8 month check. when she phoned with the appt last week she said his 9-12 month check. they are running so behind and dp and myself had a good chuckle about the way she slipped in 9-12 very matter of fact!
ds keeps crying through the night....really wailing and when we (well, dp Grin) gets to the nursery ds is fast asleep. can only assume his teeth are hurting him. the four new ones are all through though so i'm wondering if it's still them playing him up or he has more coming through.

hope you are all well......wish the weather would warm up. it's freezing and wet here!

Hi folks, don't seem to have been on this thread for ages!

Ds is starting to move now - he can get on to his tummy and push his arms up, but rarely manages to pull his legs up underneath him so he's not crawling anywhere. He shuffles backwards though, much to his consternation, when he is trying to get a toy!

Today's trick is to roll over in his cot... I can see I am going to be up all night rolling him back again (hasn't worked out how to do that for himself yet!)

Still no teeth here though! Am very happy about that as I'm still breastfeeding Smile

Report
suzi2 · 01/06/2006 22:00

miaou my DS is much the same. Got onto all fours almost 3 months ago and went backward for a couple of weeks. And then gave up crawling altogether. Still hasn't rolled (and sleeps in a hammock so doens't get the opportunity) and hasn't got any teeth.

BUT, over the last couple of weeks he's started pulling himself up on things (quite often me!). I thought we were safe as long as I didn't sit him near anything, but he's managing to shuffle towards things. He leans over, goes on his tummy, turns 180 degrees and then goes back to sitting. it's pretty effective in moving him across the floor. And I keep finding him holding onto the kitchen drawers cruising them! Why oh why oh why did I want him to be mobile so much??? Grin

yesterday ds discovered he can grab the top of his travel cot and pull himslef up to standing.......so now we have to move it away from the wall because he fell and banged his head. and he rocks it violently so i'm scared he'll tip it over. and he's pulling himslef up on the furniture too........

his check with the HV went fine.......apart from her telling me off for giving him some cows milk to drink....but i started a thread about that in Weaning. she did say 'ok, here for his 8 month check, gosh he's big for 8 months' to which i replied 'that's because he's about 10 months'...........they are so behind!! she told me not to bother getting him weighed again till he turns one, and that i need to make him a GP appt as they like to see them about now too.

Hi all, took my little ones to see Postman Pat at the local shopping centre today. It was like a sing-a-long thing with Pat up on the stage. DS2 absolutely oved it! He was clapping his hands and shouting out and even waved when Pat waved bye. Poor ds1 though, he was jumping up and down to one of the songs and his trousers fell dowm Blush poor thing he didn't care just pulled them up and carried on.

i think ds2 is starting to feel that ds1 is older than him and he so wants to play with him, but he doesn't know how. Also ds1 is not keen to share his toys at the moment so there is lots of shouting in our house at the moment. His latest thing is holding something in each hand at the same time, so if he's eatng he has a piace of food in each hand or 2 toys, he looks very funny doing it.

Ds2 is still not poperly over his cough and cold and is still a bit under the weatherHe's had antibiotics but it's still hanging around. We all keep passing it around to each other too, so if one person gets over it, someone else gives it them back. Hopefully we'll be germ free soon.

I got an interview for the jobs I applied for and I've got to teach as part of the process. No idea what to do, other teachers on the thread dod you have any ideas about this. I've got to do a 15 minute teaching task with a y4 class and the objective is 'to begin to understand how people view the world from different cultural perspectives'. I'm at a real loss and have no idea what to do, especially as the amount of time is so short, I'll barely have got going and it will be time to stop!! Any ideaswouldbe gratefully received, the jobs to support EAL kids by the way.

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the nice weather at last, certainly feel better in the heat than this time last year!!!

Kate how sweet DS2 enjoying Postman Pat. My DS2 absolutely adores DS1, which is lovely to see. DS1 is not so thrilled when DS2 grabs his toys. What a lovely day it's been - too hot if anything. It's so nice to spend the time in the garden. It looks like DS2 may finally have some teeth coming through.
