Hi everyone! Boss at meeting, so a chance to quickly post Grin. Wow BEAR, sounds like you're really into the weaning Smile; you've reminded me that I need to move my baby rice to last feed, then purress at 11 (what are we GFs types like Grin!!)Sounds like C is doing just fine; know what you mean about temptation to try different tastes; so far we have 'unofficually' tried a bit of garlic bread (in a cafe...she was licking her lips at dds slices, and actually cried when I took the pathetic little chewed up slither away from her!), an over chip Blush, and strawberry yogurt. All was gratefully received Grin.
On the hair-front BEAR, why not go for a half-up half down 'do' (a half ponytail, with sides pulled round to back, perhaps curling loose section into loose spirally curls?)
Hi BOB; your afternoon planned sounds blissful. I am enviuosly looking at students on the grass sunning themselves from the window of my prison cell!Oh btw, where did you get your little UV tent from?
Hi NOVA; hope Nat behaved herself this morning!Know what you mean when they miss a nap; haven;t actaully missed an outing because of this, but have certainly thought twice about it!
Right, back to the slog...
Diege Smile

novadandypowder · 04/05/2006 15:22

She was actually really well behaved Shock. It was all the older babies causing chaos in the class - I thought it was supposed to get easier (hahaha lets all laugh at the naive first time mum)

Have posted elsewhere but wondered if anyone had ideas on cooling down rooms, the nursery is 30oC at the mo!

tessasmum · 04/05/2006 15:31

Afternoon all!

Nova - glad she was good. Tessa was one of the older babies when we went to Sing and Sign and all she did was crawl round the room nicking things out of people's changing bags, mainly drinks and food Shock
We have been up since 5.20am this morning but at least Ash slept through from 9pm. I think its better than an interupted night (ask me later in the day Smile) but usually he only lasts about 2 hours from waking up till naptime and it was 5 hours this morning!! Tired, grumpy and fighting it were words that spring to mind!
Also, if you want to borrow our Shade-a-babe thingy whilst you are away you are more than welcome, at least you can try it out and decide if you want to buy one.

Bear - no comparison at all I'm afraid, Ash was 15lb 15oz at 15 weeks ShockShock but he has always been a chunky monkey. Haven't had him weighed since but think he must be about 20lbs by now. I wouldn't worry as all babies are different, Tessa was the same birth weight as Ash but put on weight much slower - long and skinny rather than long and chunky Grin
Good luck on the weaning, its nice to start giving them tastes of things so don't feel too guilty

Brownie - 'Buggery arse' made me giggle, must nick it!
Did the same thing with carrots last time, poor Tessa was NOT impressed! This time I just boiled them for ever and whizzed them with some of the cooking liquid which worked a treat.

GG - Getting married is brilliant fun, IF you do it your way. We got married last year and had the main bit as a picnic, we just provided cake and champagne. Great for children (of which there were loads), minimal organisation and everyone brings their own food Grin

Well done on school places, it must be a big weight off you minds. Can't believe it will be us this time next year Shock

Beautiful, beautiful new photos BTW, definately the cutest babies on Mumsnet Smile

Off to potter in the garden (sorry workers!)

beartime · 04/05/2006 16:22

Goodness Tessa - he's bfed too isn't he?

Nova - I'm going to try a fan by the wide open window and curtain and door shut this afternoon - that's the best I know of! But babies survive in Africa so it can;t be too bad Smile

Diege - what's the best way to do the half up half down look - bun/clip/hairband? And what colour? And should I use hairspray or anything? Sorry to be thick but i NEVER do anything with my hair! And is there any way to do the curly bit without a curler??!!

novadandypowder · 04/05/2006 17:19

Bear - do you have a local hairdresser that you can go to for suggestions in how to do your hair? They managed to curl my hair with straighteners at the last wedding but have since tried to do it myself and it's not easy.

Have two fans and windows opened, tried the doors and curtains shut but that just made it hotter as no air was circulating. The trouble is if I put her to sleep in something suitable for the bedtime temp, she'll get cold when the temp drops in the early hours. And buggered if I'm risking waking her up in the middle of the night.

Rodeo · 04/05/2006 18:15

Hi all,

Hope everyone has been enjoying the sun again :)

Bear I sympathise with you re hair trauma! I tried to get an outfit for sat night but could I bloody find anything?!! Having a last ditch attempt to find something tomorrow morning - I thought clothes shopping was supposed to be fun?!

Tessa - Ooh poor you 5.20am start! LOL at Tessa at babysign Grin

Nova - Could you sling a blanket over her when you go up to bed? Like the straightener curls look BTW, it's a fave with the girls round here, a few zigzaggy curls over their straight hair, looks lovely but I am really crap with all things hair I'm afraid. Bear I would deffo go to the hairdressers!

Diege - LOL at Libby's garlic bread and oven chip, we've deviated with chocolate mousse and pizza crust.

Bear - dp got me some white Birkenstocks and new jeans, my sis got me some Liz Earle cleanser & moisturiser, my mum got me Euros (spending money for when I go away), Dad also got me some Euros and some flowers, got 3 bottles of wine, some money hmmm think thats the lot :) Going out for a meal tonight because my mum is 50 today! Happy Birthday Mother!

Off to get ready :) Bye!

babyonboard · 04/05/2006 18:22

hi all..

diege it's from elc..called 'sunsafe'
beartime- i'dalsosay go to a hairdresser if you can.
isometimes curl my hair by wrapping it inrolls around my finger and pinning it up then blasting it with a hairdryer..
or you can get velcro rollers in boots etc!

lol at your weaning 'deviations' O is very interested in what we eat..so far from our plates he's had a couple of peas, a taste of vanilla icecream and I let him suck some asparagus but he crinkled his nose at it..teehee

rodeo your bday presents sound fab! have fun tonight...

beartime · 04/05/2006 18:47

Dh doesn't think I should go to hairdressers so I won't - which is why I'm looking for DIY ideas!

Nova - found the same thing with doors and curtains shut - oh dear, so now trying door shut curtain open! I wouldn't worry too much abt temperature dropping early morning - last night it was 70degrees when I put him to bed and 75 at his dreamfeed! Shock I know it does in winter but I think it might not drop v. much when its hot. I generally put him in bed with clothes appropriate for the nearest temp under what it is too so it is OK if it drops a bit. Although tonight I did the opposite - 1.0 tog sleeping bag and short sleeved bodysuit for 79degrees according to Grobag temps which is what it is. Like Rodeo says you could check in on her when you go to bed - I do that a lot - tho its not so easy with a sleeping bag is it!

Are all babies monkeys at this age? Caleb is really mischievous!

Goodness Diege and BoB - there must be some salt and sugar in those deviations - naughty naughty!

I'm becoming more and more convinced that Caleb has reflux with every puddle of spit up! But HV said weaning should help anyhow. \though he cried after baby rice today - dunno if it was that or the choc I ate yesterday!

Rodeo - sounds like you're rich anyway!

babyonboard · 04/05/2006 19:06

oooh i'm so mad..
someone has lit a huge stinky garden fire just behind us so i've had to close all the windows..
and it's so damn warm!

feel sorry for allthose with washing outside on the line..bleurgh..

GarfieldsGirl · 04/05/2006 20:34

Oooohhh, we have had a lovely day today, and now i'm ready to sleep for England! Went out with Owens friend & her mum, we had a picnic, then they played in the park, Sean loved the slide and was pretty impressed by he swings too. Then we went to the beach with an ic cream and the older ones threw stones in the water while Sean tried to eat them. He loved my ice cream, and was quite upset that I was putting suncream on his face rather than letting him eat it! Then off to the pier for bouncy castle, ladybirds nd boat thing. Bouncy castle was a big hit with Sean. Then off to the natural history museum thing, which Sean slept through! and then back home. So we've done about 6 hours of walking! and I have verypink arms and cheeks. i'm terrible for remembering to put cream on myself. I'm too busy making sur the LOs are well protected.

Bear - how about you get yourself some hair mags, to get some inspiration for a simple 'do', and then you can practice it,and find the best one for you. Sean was 15lb 5oz a coupe of weeks ago, so he's still over 1/2lb belw his birth weight. Try not to look at the growth charts too much, I think they probably cause a lot of un-needed worry, I mean who is 'normal' anyway? baby or adult!

Tessas - you're 'picnic wedding' sounds really good, nice and relaxed. Thats the one thing i'm unsure of is the food.Everything else has been planned for years!

BoB - I don't blame you for being annoyed, bonfires are horrible stnky things, and so bloody inconsiderate.

Hopefully tomorrow will be as lovely as today, so I think i may get into the garden.

beartime · 04/05/2006 20:44

GG - can you recommend some good hair mags? That's a good idea. Ooooh I've never bought a mag... Grin
And thanks for the consolation re: weight. Are you telling us that you put your baby on the slide?? Shock and the bouncy castle? Or did he enjoy watching it?

Oh and Nova where's that thread abt nursery temp? I've left Caleb in there with window open and fan on but its still about 80 degrees.

GarfieldsGirl · 04/05/2006 21:15

Hi Bear - There's a couple of hair mags, one I think is actually called 'Hair', and I think cosmopolitan do a hair one, sorry an't be more specific, but if you ask the newsagent, they'll point you in the right direction. Smile

Don't panic, i didn't let him go down the slide etc by himself, just held onto him and he loved it, and i just put him on the edge of the bouncy castle and bounced him. You get a lot more confident on your 2nd, there's so much i do with him that i would have had heart failure if Owen had done it! Grin

Is this teh \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=9&threadid=170214&stamp=060504205013\room temp thread} that you were after?

GG xx

beartime · 04/05/2006 22:01

'Hair' - well that makes me feel stupid Grin

I;ve already been told I need a second one Grin as I have heart failure if someone leaves the room with my baby!

And thanks for the thread link - I realise why I couldn't find it now, I searched for 'Nova' not her full name!

Nova - did you manage to cool it down at all? Hey being a Notting Hill mummy can't you afford an air con unit? Wink Its still 80 degrees in caleb's room, now that its dark I've opened the curtains to let more air in.

ChaCha · 04/05/2006 23:46

Bear - Good luck with your hairdo. Caleb sounds fine and agree with you on mischevious note. DS was weighed on Tuesday, at exactly 5 months weighed 16lbs and back on the centile he was born on. He has been mixed fed for the last 3 months - the weight gain seems to have increased steadily since. Enjoy the fruits of your labour, great weight and well done! :)

Nova - Hope you managed to cool N's nursery. It was 23 in our room earlier on, have left windows open and LO is in vest. Don't think a/c is necessary do you? DH always found my sleeping under duvet in a/c room abroad very amusing.

GG - Glad you've had such a lovely day, did you manage to join the group yet. I haven't seen an email from you.

Tessasmum - Hi :) hope all is well. What time does Ash generally sleep? My LO has been sleeping anywhere between 9 and 11pm and up from 8-9am. He still wakes up for one feed usually at 5ish when I get up to pray despite trying to fill him up at bedtime. Today he had 2 30minute naps - didn't get much done hence my having some Me, Me, Me time at almost midnight! [goggle eyes/yawn]

On the subject of weaning, I hold food near his mouth and he just blanks me! Completely looks away. Will hold out yet.

Rodeo -B'day treats sound fab :o When are you going away, did I miss that?

Closed bedroom curtains, opened windows wide and lay on bed with DS today. He was amused for a whole hour by curtains blowing in and out with the breeze, he lauged, kicked legs, did his new 'daaa daaaaa waaaa waaaaa' and did an impression of someone being held up in a freeze position when I interrupted him with my own laughing. Nice memory to keep. I love that little boy (esp now that he's fast asleep, ahhhh!)

Nighty x

babyonboard · 05/05/2006 09:46

aah what a lovely story chacha!, i agree those arememories you'llalways cherish
this morning O was 'singing'which was a nicer thing to wake up to than the alarm clock! lol

great news on z's weight too!

bear- i'm not nearly as 'panicky' with O as i'd have thought..but I think it's maybe because I was quite involved with looking after my little sister when she was born..

g.g- sounds like you had a lovely day! hooray for the start of summer...

another lovely day here! but m.i.l is coming over this afternooon...i might take advantage and leave her with O and go get my hair done..

novadandypowder · 05/05/2006 09:54

well, the temp when it was bedtime was 28oC and far too hot for Nat to sleep, so after much crying (by her) and stressing (by me), we put the futon matress down in the study (coolest room of the house, and the one I wanted for the nursery Angry) and put her on that. She lasted until 4.30 this morning which I thought was pretty good going for being in a strange room on a strange bed. I took her up to the nursery (which was still 24oC this morning) and tried to sleep with her up there but she was awake from 5.40. Now she's napping and I wanted to start an exercise class in Holland Park today which means leaving in 10mins, but I don't want to wake her up to go so may end up missing it.

Yes, we are going to buy an air con unit!!!!

babyonboard · 05/05/2006 10:10

nova- our bedroom and living room are at the top and south facing too..with sloped eaving which makes it very hot
it improved a lot when we installed oak flooring and a cieling fan...
we are also considering having a bigger velux window put in, in an attempt to make it airier.
guess you need to sort it out soon!especially if this summer gets as hot as previus ones have.

babyonboard · 05/05/2006 15:17

oh..its so quiet here again..

m.i.l 'stole' O ( i was goingto ask her to babysit but she acted like i had no option..teehee)and took him to meet her friends..i'm glad..but a little worried..last time she put his nappy on back to front..lol

i'm off to have my hair cut in an hour..no fringe i decided..but maybe a long sideswept one..andi am going for a burgundy chocolately brown colour..
( ooh how deluded am i ..it'll just get in my face/pulled by o and endup being pinned back anyway..teehee)

ahwell..it'll be nice to feel/look fantastic..if only for one night!

hope you are all out and about enjoying the sun

bob

babyonboard · 05/05/2006 18:24

oh dear..only me!

again...

I am thrilled with my hair cut ( you know when you get those ones that feel lovely around your neck and make you want to swish like a shampoo advert..!?)

and it's enough of a change that i am surprised when i catch my reflection...no colour change..but thats a long story!lol

funny but Angry story of the day for me..O was in shorts denim dungares and long sleeved tshirttoday..
then m.i.l brought him home with a jumper and sleeping bag she's put on him as she thought he was too cold..
even his pram was soaked in sweat!

GarfieldsGirl · 05/05/2006 19:29

Hi BoB - looks like its only you around today! I guess its bound to get quieter here now with those starting to go back to work.

Shock at your mil. You must havve ben fuming when she got back with Oskar (it is with a 'k' isn't it, sorry if its a 'c'). And on such a hot day too. I remember when once my mil tried to wrap Owen in 2 layers of clothes and his sleepsuit, then blankets. When I ripped them all off him she said 'babies can neve be too warm'. Shock Angry I had to be so diplomatic as I couldn't explain to her that thats not true and why, as she lost one of her daughters to cot death Sad. As you said, its nice to have your hair looking and feeling good, even if it s for just one day, before you have to te it back!

ChaCha - I haven't been able to join the group yet, but have CATted you again, hopefully it'll work this time. Let me know if you don't get it and i'll just have to bite the bulet and post my e-mail address.

How is everyone else? All making the most of this lovely weather I hope xx

GarfieldsGirl · 05/05/2006 19:30

That should have said snowsuit, not sleep. oops

Busyalexsmummy · 05/05/2006 20:22

Hi all, just a quick note to say things with us are fine.
I passed my driving theory on tuesday! yay! over and done with B&*& hazard perception!

Alfies fine, still bf, still not weaning, have tried a spoonful of baby rice just out of curiosity, but is not intrested whatsoever yet, so I think Ill just stick with my plan and wait until he makes the first move!

Got my college place confirmed, just finalising childcare now and putting deposits down for places.

The college tutor said I ought to get some more recent work experience as my four month stint at our local community unit isover 2yrs ago now!Shock anyway, i rang up our local surgery and they said they could do me one day a week, but to ring in june when their student leaves.I rang the hospital where alfie was born and they offered me 10days and finally I rang back our local unit who said to ring back in sept when their student leaves! so overall a good result much to my suprise and A placement for each-hospital setting/maternity unit and community midwife!Smileyay! I finally feel like things are finally moving! I cant believe I have to apply for Uni in oct!! Im soooo scared I'll not get a place, but at the same time Im doing everything I can to show my commitment starting with all the work experienceSad

Right have to go, I will try and find time this week to read through posts....Sad

SmileL x
ps Is there anything that needs sorting out with the yahoo group?

Diege · 05/05/2006 21:41

Evening everyone SmileSounds like all the babies are really developing their own chracters and making themselves known! Pretty quiet on here, but still loads to catch up on from just missing one night Grin. Just fron memory, BEAR, I would def. go to hairdresseres If I were you for your 'do'; not that I doubt your abilities, but any sort of curling technique can turn out hit or miss if you're not 100% with it. I would ask them to curl with GHD straightening irons (not a contradition!), as these give the most contemporary look SmileRODEO: the girls love their postcards; they have pride of place on the surround Smile. If you're up that way second week in July maybe we could have a family meet-up? We are in Whitby for the week Smile.
BOB: go on, what happenened to the colour plans? Hair soudns lovely BTW; know what you mean about that 'swishy' feeling; then you wash it and bleurrr Grin. LOL at fringe dilemma Grin. I have one of those 'long' diagonal frionges that are meant to be 'oh so flattering', yet as I type have it clipped up, as I tend to most days Grin. Oh and I'm sorry, but your mil even makes me fume, and I have enough problems with my own !!
Hi to everyone else of course- always feel rude not to mention everyone by name, but am heading off for an early one last night; dd2 has started waking again at night Sad. Oh, to finish on a bright nopte, my Lulu guiness maclren has arrived and is totally gorg!!!, I lurve it Grin...I even thought about bringing in inside so I could , well, just look at it (it's in garage). Have aLso ordered one of those shroud things (ChaCha??) (shade a babe?) but somehow can;t get so excited about that parcel. Oh and NOVA that link for babay balm is brill; arrived day after placiong order, with loads of free samples. Have put balm on tonight, so fingers crossed.
Speak soon!
Diege Smile

Diege · 05/05/2006 21:44

Sorry for rubbish typing. Blush Must press preview!!!

novadandypowder · 05/05/2006 21:51

Missed the exercise class, but I think Nats sleeping was far more important Wink. In my defence I did mow the lawn which must cancel out tonights take away pizza.

Very Angry at John Lewis. Called them this mornign to see if they had the air conditioner in stock, the helpful lady said no, but a delivery had come in so she'd let me know if therewas one in there. Called me back to say they had found one in the back of the stock room but it had a damaged box. I said I could live with that so got a driver to take me there to pick it up. When I got it home I took it out of the box so the driver could take it upstairs for me (very heavy!) and it was damaged with bits missing!!! Had to take it all the way back, to find out they had 4 delivered today but they weren't unpacked, so I'd have to wait until weds to get it delivered. They then offered to pack up the display model in the shop for me, hmmmm let me see, I've brought back an incomplete used one, and you're offering me a used one in return. So I've got to wait until weds for it. It took half an hour to get her down tonight as it was 26oC in her room, but I've just gone to check on her and she's ok.

Also been feeling quite lonely today as DH is away working for the weekend Sad. Although I do a lot with Nat I don't really have any mummy friends around here. Thankfully one of my friends seemed to have sensed this and I've just got off the phone with her and feel much better for having a girly chat.
