I should add the 2 deeds that were done were 12 hours apart - as much as my DH would love to be thought of as a stud on here I feel I should clarify!!!! Grin

DonnaDoon · 07/01/2013 12:20

Hi Shelly {waves} my dd got a play mat too and it is a god send.

TooManyDicksOnTheDancefloor · 07/01/2013 12:25

I've booked a dr's appointment for Wednesday. I'm feeling really down about this reflux, B has turned into a crying baby who doesn't ever want to be put down. I've managed to stop the vomiting by keeping her upright after feeds but she is bringing up sour milk and acid up to two hours after a feed. She isn't sleeping well in the day because of this and last night I was still up with her at 12.30 even though her last feed was at 10.30.

To those with reflux babies on medication, does it take these horrible symotom away? B seems so sad and I feel like crying.

horseylady · 07/01/2013 12:44

Broncalitis :( poor boy. She's says he's a fit baby so will hopefully fight it but to do as were doing. Go straight back or to children's a&e if he gets worse and go back if no improvement at the end of the week.

Basically back to feeding him as he was as a new born!!

ValiumQueen · 07/01/2013 12:56

horsey not at all surprised. Hopefully he can fight it and avoid hospital. He is a big older baby, and very healthy really.

sophia I would shelve the potty training for a while, stick CBBC on, get a cuppa and biscuits and concentrate on baby. Diet can wait a few days. Big hugs.

My washing machine has broken this morning, flooding the kitchen. All mopped up and emptied. It is 8yo, and I knew it was on its way out. It does not owe us anything. Thankfully mum lives nearby and I will use disposables in the interim. Anyone know of any good bargains?

ValiumQueen · 07/01/2013 12:56

Bargains on washers, not nappies.

YellowWellies · 07/01/2013 13:04

Dicks yep the meds and going dairy free have given me my gorgeous happy boy back. If LOs reflux is related to cows milk protein (and it is 50% of the time) sadly you have to have meds AND cut dairy out of your diet / change to a non cows milk formula if FF - to see results. You'll see a change in a day and they keep getting better and better if you get on the right meds that suit them.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 07/01/2013 13:04

Thanks vq I think I might shelve the potty training. My plan a was to wait till the summer when he was coming up to three but a bit of pressure from mil and DH and the HV, would you believe, so I thought I would see what happened. Chaos is what happened. Back to plan a.

horsey aren't you glad you went to the Dr now!! I'm sure he can fight it and get well soon, he has obviously been making his best efforts to keep going even though he feels crap!

Luckily the sky box seems to have revived itself so I will follow your advice vq

YellowWellies · 07/01/2013 13:05

VQ tescos disposables are v good and cheap even if not on offer

YellowWellies · 07/01/2013 13:06

Whoops read that too late vq!

Sophiathesnowfairy · 07/01/2013 13:06

Try appliances online for appliances, they seem to have pretty good prices and pretty much everything.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 07/01/2013 13:09

I really like TEsco own nappies but they don't do a size 3 in newborn, so have found that he still needs the newborn as they are softer and absorb milk poo better....cue nappy rash to the max!

TooManyDicksOnTheDancefloor · 07/01/2013 13:11

Thanks YW, I don't know where to start with cutting dairy out of my diet, it's in everything! Any tips on what I need to look for on the listed ingredients, apart from milk obviously. What are you drinking instead of milk?

MissMummy1 · 07/01/2013 13:12

vq we've just given our spare washing machine to our neighbours - sorry! We still have a spare dishwasher and fridge to shift (although dp is using them as a beer fridge and 'engine parts' washer so might be reluctant to part with them.... damn buying appliances 6 months before moving into a house that already had them!)

On the disposables front, I've switched from pampers to asdas after asda had no size 2s left. Must say I am SUPER impressed - far fewer leakages, much more absorbant and look much comfier and much cheaper. I really must stop being a brand snob...

I think this is a growth spurt. She just wants to feed (and quite literally attack my boobs!) all the time. Arghhh! Gremlin doesnt cover it...

Sophiathesnowfairy · 07/01/2013 13:17

Ooo might try the asda.

horseylady · 07/01/2013 13:22

He's bright as a button. Until he coughs or feeds. Ok maybe a bit more wingey than usual but he looks well. He just needs to eat more and cough less.

Interestingly I was advised to wait until he gets weighed again as 'the hv are likely to get hysterical' followed by a 'you're going to tell me youre a hv next aren't you?!' :)

kirrinIsland · 07/01/2013 13:27

Morning all:)

detective and petite I hope you are both doing ok. DH/DP trouble is the last thing you need with a newborn :(

Bedtime did not go well last. Made an effort to get her in her basket earlier, and instead she was still up at half one! Might have to tackle this from the other end of the day and start getting her up in the morning?

YellowWellies · 07/01/2013 13:36

toomanydicks this webpage was a lifesaver for me (it says what to look out for on labels) www.thefussybabysite.com/coping/non-dairy-diet-and-breastfeeding/

Some tips:

  • go for Vitelite spread (can also use it in mash),
  • I've only found one brand of bread i can eat Tesco Finest stoneground
  • our meals for the first weeks here were simple meat, tatties and veg affairs and I'm starting to experiment more now,
  • its easier to cook from scratch than use processed ingredients / meals / snacks as these are full of dairy and soy
  • eating out is a total nightmare waiting staff keen for a sale will assume you're just picky and tell you what you want to hear - even though it will hurt your baby!
  • I have oat milk for cooking and coconut milk for drinking / cereal
  • growth spurt fat-rich snacks include hummus and breadsticks, taramasalata, home made prawn cocktail and some brands of scotch eggs and pork pies.
  • check the label on EVERYTHING
  • for us even the slightest trace causes misery - check allergy advice on products it should state dairy or milk traces

It gets easier and it means I can continue to give LO the best start - even though its so tempting to stick a bottle in his mouth and shovel pizza into mine! It is hard, it is expensive and it is frustratingly unfair but I've always said I'd do anything to give LO the best start so m'eh - I'm stuck with it! Fingers crossed yours isn't related to diet xx

YellowWellies · 07/01/2013 13:40

Haha given that I can no longer eat chocolate I've realised that I am single handedly proving that happy Mummy = happy baby is balls! When I troughed on ice cream on my last dairy day DS wept in pain for 4 hours straight :( won't be doing that again no matter how happy it made me.

horseylady · 07/01/2013 13:50

I think happy baby = happy mummy is more apt!!

PetiteRaleuse · 07/01/2013 13:54

Commiserations horsey though of course am not surprised as what you are describing sounds exactly like what LO is going through now. The bigger they get the better they are able to cope (what happened to DD1 the last few weeks is apparently very rare I have been reassured) so just keep doing as you have been and sit it out. It's been a week now so it should be over in the next few days.

I am taking both DD1 and LO to the paed on Thursday for check ups following their illnesses. Hopefully that will close the matter and we will be able to move on.

YellowWellies · 07/01/2013 13:57

Exactly happy baby = happy Mummy is much more apt horsey!

horseylady · 07/01/2013 13:59

Thanks petite. So pleased I took him now!! I think he's getting better but at least it's on his records now. Hes sleeping less too which I think shows he's feeling a bit better? Fingers crossed his appetite comes back!!

horseylady · 07/01/2013 14:04

Its how I dealt with not bf (eventually!!) he's happy. I might not be, but he is.

Therell be times in life when he's not happy. But for now keeping him happy and healthy is the main thing.

Right dog walk time!!!! Wish me luck I'm on my own again!!!

Elizadoesdolittle · 07/01/2013 14:07

E slept from midnight till just gone 6am last night, in the Moses basket. Was brill! Sorry to hear of those with sleep issue's. I'm really not gloating just nobody in my real life cares!

On the minus side, she just projectile vomited everywhere pretty much the same time as DD1 was wetting herself. She's been dry for 8 month but recently started wetting herself quite frequently as she purely can't be arsed to go to the toilet. As if I don't have enough washing. Did it 3 times the other day. She better stop soon. She's 3 next week and more than capable of getting herself to the loo. It's just pure laziness and very annoying!

E has her jabs this afternoon Hmm
