Sweetpea remember your DS was low birth weight so will probably take more, catching up so to speak!

My DS was born on 2nd centile. At 11 days he was on 25th. Am taking him to be weighed at 3 weeks 6 days on Thursday where I expect he will have gone up te centiles again catching up! He takes a varied amount and probably has 8-10 feeds a day definitely. He takes 2-6oz lol!

horseylady · 17/12/2012 18:40

Donna ds has been watching me and following for the last 3 weeks or so. He's a couple of days younger than vqs ds. I would worry when the drs say worry.

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 17/12/2012 18:52

Jims that's a very familiar tale!! DD is 2.8 & into the 'why?' & the 'me want that...' stage, which is infuriating. It's nice (sorta) to know that I'm not alone petite. And thanks detective I think because DD has such good language skills, I expect more from her in some ways, which is unfair on her.

sweetpea1112 · 17/12/2012 18:52

Thanks Detective fellow Oscar mummy Smile that makes sense. Just going to let him lead the way I think.

He wont be weighed until 6 weeks as I dont have a HV/GP appointment until then and the drop in clinic is only once a month. Might pop on the scales with him if I get worried.

priscilla101 · 17/12/2012 19:09

Ah, donna I have this concern. Ds is 5 weeks and had really bruised eyes after birth, combined with the yellow eyes from jaundice I have been keeping a close eye on his vision, and have no idea if he is really following things....for some reason, although this is my second, I am not so confident about some things.
For example, he ha a slight white coating on his tongue. I think it may be thrush, but don't know. He also possets a lot, has a lot of wind issues and grunts and grizzles a lot in his sleep. I think this may be reflux. All that said, in the main he is contented, putting weight on, has wet and dirty nappies and is generally wonderful....so I am not too concerned.

Ds1 is 7, nearly 8, so I think I may have forgotten just how worrying It all can be and how much of it is guesswork!

Anyway, welcome November! Hope all the poorly babes are in the mend.

daisychain76 · 17/12/2012 19:11

Donna H is 12 weeks today, 5 corrected, and he doesn?t really follow things (does gaze hypnotised in one spot a lot!). I have to take him back to drs for another check on it this week, but l think its jjust a maturity thing with premmies

MissMummy1 · 17/12/2012 19:17

Managed an afternoon out shopping with dh and dd. Messed up our timings and amount of ebm we had with us. M had a meltdown in weatherspoons (who despite advertising themselves as family friendly were totally pish.. I shall be writing a snippy letter when I have the energy time!) Cue me breastfeeding in public for the first time. Cue dh trying to be funny and announcing "well it's not the first time you've had your tits out in the pub" Angry Blush . Dick. I drove for the first time in 5 weeks today too - strangest thing ever. Didnt feel like my car. All went well until I got home and tried to reverse into the carport - driver's mirrors arent essential anyway are they?!? Sad

All in all though had a good day out. Have an old mutual friend coming round this evening so looking forward to that.

M has milk spots all over her face and neck. Any remedies or will they disappear on their own?

sweetpea1112 · 17/12/2012 20:22

MM well done for bf in public. I have a fear of Oscar having a meltdown in public but it is surely a right of passage for every mum.

Oscar has just made proper eye contact with the OH and followed him with his eyes wherever he went. Very cute and trying not to feel Envy that he doesn't do that with me...

TooManyDicksOnTheDancefloor · 17/12/2012 20:23

mm- when dd1 had milk spots all over her face I found the only thing that helped them was aqueous cream. I was advised by the midwife not to put anything on them but when I put aqueous cream on they disappeared overnight.

sweetpea1112 · 17/12/2012 20:23

Oh and O has the milk spots too. I think they go away by themselves but somebody more wise than me will be along soon.

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 17/12/2012 20:42

What was the consensus on the best cure for cradle cap please? :)

FatimaLovesBread · 17/12/2012 21:00

Detective I also have a tv addict, she's been glued to Friends

I think milk spots sort themselves out.

What's the earliest that babies can smile? DH and I are sure she gave us some smiles earlier with a lit up face not just a windy lip movement

Evilwater · 17/12/2012 21:10

Chunky- I'm using virgin olive oil. Works a treat!

Tits- I hope things are on the up.

I'm getting worn out, and LO is starting to grate on me. He is teething, and it's just like colic all over again. :( He wants to be in my arm ALL the time. It's driving me a bit loopy now. His feeding pattern has all changed, I just have no idea what he wants any more.

Evil

sweetpea1112 · 17/12/2012 21:10

I was wondering that too Fatima. O sometimes looks like he is doing proper smiles but as he isn't even 3 weeks yet I keep thinking it must just be wind.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 17/12/2012 21:26

pikz have the same packing Dilema as you. Have dug out some of my post DS1 dresses to wear with leggings and am going to treat myself to a new top tomorrow. Need to count the baby gros. I don't think Olly has enough stuff to go without washing either.

sweetpea you need to be confident in yourself and not let him bring you down. Is good that be has apologised but try to look to build yourself up and know you are a fab mum. We all fumble along the way even those of us who have more than one, two, or three children, we all still learn with every one no one knows it all, but what you do do is give your child all the love you can muster and be sure of yourself.

Double buggy a must. I make a big song and dance about with DS1 just incase he decided he wants to walk, works well at the mo with the colder weather. I go " ooo let's snuggle you all in cosy and warm!" He loves it?Xmas Grin

Sophiathesnowfairy · 17/12/2012 21:32

Yep yw my legs have gone extra hairy too and my bikinis line......you wouldn't want to know! I have booked on for a Christmas wax on Wed, having had my eyebrows threaded today. ( both boys sat good as old while I had them done, to a peep, and they were awake too,I was so proud. Bodes well for future girlfriends/wives if I can train them t do that)

chunky don't worry, my rag has been lost, more than once since the arrival of DS2. It devastates me too as they are all so lovely I hate having to tell them off. But how many times do you need to tell them the living room is not a soft play centre and giving the baby a cheese and onion crisp is not the best idea.

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 17/12/2012 22:01

Sounds funny put like that Sophia Xmas Grin

Anyone else's bf baby getting possessive on the boobs? DS keeps clinging on to my top or putting in hands around my boob when feeding. It's very cute! :)

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 17/12/2012 22:03

Oh and according to the NHS green book, baby's start smiling from about 4wks.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 17/12/2012 22:08

Does anyone else have horribly dry hands from all the washing and alcohol stuff? Mine are dreadful and I moisturise all the time. Sigh.

ValiumQueen · 17/12/2012 22:09

I was feeding DS earlier and felt a nip to the side of my breast. DD2 had decided she wanted some milk too so just grabbed and sucked. Ouch!

horseylady · 17/12/2012 22:16

I'm musing something.

Guidelines are breast is best up to weaning and one year. After that the suggestion is you give cows milk? So if I was bf (which im not) and wanted to do extended breast feeding, do you still give cows milk? Or just breast? Or both?

Why do formula companies produce follow on milk? Surely all these changes should gradual, otherwise there would be a huge number with bad bellies from extreme dietary changes. This is a year off, I appreciate that, however I've been thinking lots today. This is a question you wonderful ladies can answer :)

PetiteRaleuse · 17/12/2012 22:17

My top tip for cradle cap is vaseline (works brilliantly but is messy) or calendula oil, which I also use for nappy rash.

horseylady · 17/12/2012 22:17

Vq - ouch.

horseylady · 17/12/2012 22:18

Sophia - yes. Add horses, dogs and a lack of gloves and hands are horrendous :(

PetiteRaleuse · 17/12/2012 22:22

Horseylady in the uk the guidelines seem to be that cows molk is ok after a year. Over here they say no cows milk until three years old Hmm so I compromise by mixing follow on milk with cows milk, progressively moving from all formula to all cows. At the moment with DD1 her bottles are two thirds formula to one third cow. I don't know if the guidelines are to protect the formula feed companies. I'll ask my paediatrician the reasoning on Thursday when we go for LO's first jabs.
