sweetpea that's a step in the right direction - keep holding your ground but use DH when you need a shower/sleep/time to yourself - your confidence will grow everyday when you see LO thriving xx

madame gosh I'd love to be that organised :(

Must stop eating buying biscuits!! Gonna be the size of a whale by new year!!!

YellowWellies · 17/12/2012 16:13

Today we are being sponsored by the sling, infacol and the slow cooker and it seems to be settling down into an ok day after a morning screamfest! I had to email DH to come home with lunch that I could eat one handed as toast was beyond us!!! You know it's a shit day when toast is too complex to consider Xmas Envy hey ho - the kraken has chilled out now.

Things I have recently noticed: my leg hair is growing back at prepregnancy rates (boooo) so I actually have to shave my legs again. Just when I don't have time! Anyone else joining club wookie?

Also when DTD - things feel errr, more sensitive in a good way Xmas Blush? Wasn't expecting that! After Madames scare - we are definitely using contraception!

Chunky hugs to you. How anyone can cope with two is beyond me.

Sweetpea glad he apologised - but keep an eye on it - it sounds a worrying situation and to be honest you don't sound convinced that his turning over a new leaf is permanent. Babies after the first few weeks do tend to cry more on their Mums - you smell like a rum bottle to an alcoholic at an AA meeting (to them!)

StuntNun · 17/12/2012 16:14

Don't worry Chunky, sleep deprivation makes everything more difficult and it's a big adjustment to make to having a younger sibling. It will get easier for both of you.

Chunky l really sympathise. l shouted so loud as ds1 and dd this morning that l woke H up and he started crying Blush. I had dd when ds1 was two and remember the stress, guilt and worry, but now they. have a great bond and love each other to bits when they?re not squabbling and the closenesd in age means there?s loads we all enjoy doing together as a family. lt really does calm down and become fun!

november12mum · 17/12/2012 16:54

Hello everyone,

Can I join in,I had my LO in November as well,he's 5 weeks old now, breastfed and gaining weight well until now.
Thanks

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 17/12/2012 17:02

Thanks everyone for your kind & reassuring words. I will try to count to 10 or something next time. Plus, Christmas is nearly over so less pressure/stress etc.

YW you always sound so upbeat despite the tricky nature of life with a newborn!! :) And yes, joined club wookie too. I found it toosensitive DTD, I got sore. Blush

sweetpea sounds like a step in the right direction, but agree with others...

Hi Novembermum my DS is 5wk+1. :)

horseylady · 17/12/2012 17:03

Chunky - hugs. How you have two is beyond my comprehension. It'll settle down and shell get used to sharing you. Must be hard for everyone.

Ds has slept pretty much all day. I hope he doesn't party all night!!

ValiumQueen · 17/12/2012 17:17

chunky with a DD the same age I sympathise. You are braver than me I think as I use the double when out. I think you were gonna stick with a single. How is that going? I have not ventured into town, just the village and retail park.

katkit1 · 17/12/2012 17:19

Hi november12mum - we will be 4 weeks at 2 mins past midnight (can't believe a month has gone by already) what a blur.

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 17/12/2012 17:35

Thanks horsey & VQ.

We bought a tandem VQ thank goodness!! I literally has to shove her in it before I lost it any further. Things were just going wrong from the outset - argument about taking Woody & Jessie dolls, touching everything in the shops (I wanted her to walk to get a bit of exercise), difficulty getting round shops with tandem, dropped glycerin, honey & lemon medicine as I walk out of boots, forgetting the bag clips for the buggy so having to buy more, DS screaming for food & being limited where we could go for lunch, filthy, disgusting changing room, with both of them needing nappies & nowhere to hang my bag. It was just so difficult already & DD was trying to touch EVERYTHING in the changing room. I just had had enough I guess. Bah humbug, should have cancelled Christmas & I wouldn't have had to go shopping in the first place...Hmm

YellowWellies · 17/12/2012 17:35

horsey when Jonas has his most sleepy days - we actually tend to have good nights so fingers crossed for you. It sounds like a growth spurt to me. I tried your trick today and used a sling to get things done. How long can Jonas be in the sling during the day? Either a mei tai or a huggabub? I'm assuming there is a limit or otherwise I'd be tempted to keep him there til he starts school Blush as he's so chilled when worn. Awww thanks chunky x

TooManyDicksOnTheDancefloor · 17/12/2012 17:41

Hi everyone, haven't posted in a few days, I just about have time to catch up but then run out of time to post! Really sad to read about the babies in hospital, hope they get better soon x

Feeding is going much better here, no more bleeding nipples. I'm hoping for a decent weight gain on Wednesday.

Glad things are improving sweetpea, reading about your dp was making me very angry, hugs to you.

november12mum · 17/12/2012 17:42

Hi chunky,my DS is 5 weeks +1 day as well :)
Sorry to hear you are having a tough time, hope everything will get better soon.
Hi katkit1,time does fly,doesn't it.

Jims · 17/12/2012 17:54

chunky i know where you're coming from. I only have a single pushchair with buggyboard. Last week on the way to our usual softplay with both, ds1 (2 1/2) whinged and cried all tge way refusing to walk or go on the buggyboard. I turned into one of those mothers half dragging a whinging child. When i say all the way there, i actually meant 2/3s of the way when i told him to shut up, felt bad and gave it up as a bad job and turned round to come home. Randomly bumped into an acquaintance on the way who told me about a toddler group we've never been to, which ds1 said he'd like to go to. So we did, i got shouted at by ds2 about an hour in despite feeding him there so legged it home. Having lost a glove somewhere. Not my finest morning. Have now taken up a friend's offer and borrowed a double buggy!! Ds1 very unsettled at the moment after all the grandparents and others visiting ds2 plus our stays in hospital. Mind you, he's incredibly well behaved for others, just acts up for me and DH.
Better that way round though

TheDetective · 17/12/2012 17:55

Finally, evening ladies!

Been trying to post replies to people all day, but SOMEONE has been attached to me for over 24 hours now. Still trying to decide what the problem is - my calm sleeping baby has been replaced by the devil! I thought it could be a growth spurt, as I feel he is feeding more. DP is trying not to feed him more, and I am telling him he should be feeding him more - so needless to say he is more unsettled when DP tries to look after him for a bit. But I am trying to not take over because I was asleep Grin. It ended up being a tag team last night. Think we got about 2 lots of 1 hour times where we were all asleep at the same time! Even when Oscar was asleep he was crying out in his sleep, fidgeting, etc etc.

It could be wind/constipation. He has gone down to 1 - 2 dirty nappies a day now he is on formula. He has just had one, and I fed him after, and he settled to sleep easily, although is still fidgeting and moaning in his sleep. Have increased his bottles to see if offering him more helps him settle longer - although the fact that when he does go to sleep he is so unsettled makes me not sure. He has barely slept in the last 24 hours, poor me baby! Checked his temp - normal. Used nasal aspirator thingy, in case he was bunged up, but got nothing out! He is a little snuffly when feeding. But clearly it isn't anything blocking the exit!

He isn't distressed unduly, he just wants constant holding, rocking, stimulation or feeding! Sleep seems to be short and fitful when it does happen!

He has sped up with how long it takes to take a feed though. Maybe that is giving him trapped wind?

Sweetpea Can only echo what others have said. Hope he starts realising how unsupportive he is being, and the damage he is causing.

Chunky sounds like you coped very well to be honest! I get snappy at a 10 year old, who can understand/be reasoned with supposedly. I really couldn't do it with a toddler! Take my hat off to you!

YW Am considering getting a Mei Tai cheapy off ebay. What happens to their legs in them?!

TheDetective · 17/12/2012 17:57

He is awake again. Staring at the TV. He is 3 weeks old. He shouldn't be a telly addict already! He has taken a fascination to the TV in the last few days....

Going to see if he can self settle. He has had a grumble, and now staring at TV, with heavy eyes...

horseylady · 17/12/2012 17:59

Yw - I tend to us it for 30 minutes in the house. Longer dog walking and up at the field. He was in it for three hours last wed which was a bit long. I think I took him out after two for 10 minutes.

He's wide awake now.

PetiteRaleuse · 17/12/2012 18:03

Horsey I recommend the playpen. I already pop LO into hers when I can't give her my full attention. I trust our dog completely but even in play he could knock her. It's good to get them used to it too as when they become more mobile the playpen is a godsend while you're cooking or whatever. You know they're safe, having fun and don't ferl you need eyes in the back of your head.

DD1 learned to stand up in hers. I used to put her in there when I came back from work, needed to get changed and get dinner on.

DonnaDoon · 17/12/2012 18:07

Hi everyone is anyone else concerned about LOs sight? DD is 10wks but 6wks corrected and doesnt follow my gaze or anything...at 6wk check last thursday pead said her eyes are fine she is just still young but cant help worrying.

PetiteRaleuse · 17/12/2012 18:07

Chunky, DD1 is 20 months. I completely sympathise. It's bloody hard sometimes. I feel awful when I lose my temper with her. But it's inevitable from time to time.

sweetpea1112 · 17/12/2012 18:13

I have no idea how those of you with two manage! Had a friend over today with her 11 month old and I couldn't imagine looking after them both at once.

A question about ff - how concerned should I be about the frequency of Oscar's feeds? He is 19 days old and weighed 6lb 14oz last Weds - up on his birth weight of 6lb 1oz.

We feed pretty much on demand and he takes 10 feeds every 24 hours. We make up 90 ml bottles. During the day he tends to take 60mls with the odd 90mls. At night he tends to take 80 - 90 mls. He never goes more than 3 hours between feeds & it is usually every 2.5 hours. Everything I read says babies should be taking 6-8 feeds per day so I am a bit worried about over feeding. Should I just relax and go with it?

horseylady · 17/12/2012 18:24

Sweetpea -ds started at 10 feeds but quickly dropped to 7 then to 6. I would guess hes nearly 11lb now at 7.5 weeks old. He has 200ml bottles in the day and prob drinks 160 - 200ml. At night be has one 140ml bottle and rarely finishes it.

I'm lead by him.

I was told to use 150 - 200ml per kg body weight a day . Divide that into however many feeds a day.

ValiumQueen · 17/12/2012 18:27

donna DS has been following things with his eyes for some time, now nearly 8 weeks. I can understand your concern, but do trust the Paeds as they ar the experts and would not lie to you. All babies are different, and all milestones are guidelines. Try not to worry x

sweetpea1112 · 17/12/2012 18:31

Thanks horsey by that calculation it is roughly 60mls per feed and he is averaging slightly more than that. He seems happy though, we have lots of wet and dirty nappies and he has put on weight well. I will keep following his lead for now - he is gradually taking more at each feed and going slightly longer in between so going in the right direction.

DonnaDoon · 17/12/2012 18:32

thankyou VQ
