Well done horsey balancing an MSc and a baby - wonder woman!

Lane be careful that you don't swap too much between boobs in one feed or too short a time as LO can end up just getting foremilk which quenches their thirst but isn't very nutritious calorie-wise so can lead to poor weight gain too. Best to do at least 20-30 mins on each side if not an entire feed. If Jonas needs a feed closer than 3 hours after the last one I feed him on the same side as the last feed. If more - then I put him on the other boob. I invariably end up booby juggling to figure out which is lightest as I keep forgetting which one he fed off.... Obviously if one boob is engorged and feels like it's going to burst put baby on that one...

If you start to see green nappies - that's a good sign of too much foremilk and not enough hindmilk in the diet. It's easily rectified within 24 hours or so, by just making sure you don't switch boobs so much. learnt the hard way by panickedly googling after several excitingly coloured poos

Catbag · 04/12/2012 21:29

horsey Well done on passing the msc module!

chunky I feed the twins together so am almost always subject to sychronised poos. Like within a minute of each other Xmas Grin

daisychain76 · 04/12/2012 21:40

Well done horsey and congrats mcsquared

HV came to weigh H today and he?s put on 11 ounces in a week (to 7 pounds 3) so pleased. l?m doing the opposite and joined Slimming World today, but thenn had jam rolypoly and custard at tea ~ not a good start.

Got a couple of hour and a half gaps between feeds last night. Really hope that continues tonight...

Chunkychicken · 04/12/2012 22:34

LOL Catbag Xmas Grin

Anyone else have a baby that does animal impressions? A snorts & grunts like a pig when he's hungry and bleets like a goat when he's got wind/bit uncomfortable. He also 'chugs' his milk like a beer-downing darts player - proper 'glug' noises!! Xmas Grin

TheDetective · 04/12/2012 22:39

I have a glugger and a chugger!

He makes lots of interesting noises! He even gives me excited squeals!

No goat noises though. Grin

blonderthanred · 04/12/2012 22:52

Chunky we call ours the little farmyard, he snorts, grunts, whinnies and snuffles like a good 'un.

Lane you are not alone, we're still not at birth weight after 5w4d (weigh-in tomorrow so fingers xed). Keep going, get good support from bf clinic and LLL, do what feels right for you. The most helpful mw I saw said that ebf babies usually put on weight in steps rather than a steady line, so some weeks there might not be much gain. Most important thing is if the baby is hydrated, filling nappies, looks healthy and is developing in other ways. Let us know how you are getting on but don't feel you have to give into pressure unless it is the right thing for you.

Passmethecrisps · 04/12/2012 23:48

We have a snorty pig when she is hungry and a wee puppy when she is supposed to be asleep.

Speaking of both if those things - what a bloody frustrating evening. I have been trying to feed her since 7pm and have only just managed to get any amount in her and put her to sleep. She hasn't slept more than 5 minutes since 6pm. She must be knackered. I am hacked off because we were finished a feed, she was dozing off and I true to give her the thrush medicine. Full 100ml all over me, her and the sofa. After her initial
Shock, she was hungry again. Aaaaaaaargh!

kirrinIsland · 05/12/2012 00:01

We have goat noises - it's very cute!

Dixiebell · 05/12/2012 00:07

Yay! Over an hour between feeds and he slept in his basket. Doesn't sound like much but is the most sleep I'be had since Teddy was born. Hope it continues...

kirrinIsland · 05/12/2012 00:33

Oooh - it's going to be one of 'those' nights. N is settling in the Moses basket just long enough for me to decide she's really asleep and laying down myself, before she starts stirring again. The last couple of times she did this we were up all night before she finally actually settled at around 6am - about half an hour before DD1 wakes up!

GTbaby · 05/12/2012 02:10

mcs was wondering were u had got to. I had same issue with mil n privacy! Thanks did u sort out the room/bathroom issues?

horsey well done. Am I the only one who is wondering if horsey is just to darn perfectWink jealous?!? Me?!? YES!

Looked into disposable wipes boxes on amazon, £10 for a box. Jezz. Will just have to teach DH how to open the packet without tearing it lol.

A bit annoyed at myself. LO was getting sleepy at 7. Usually this is wide awake time. So thought result. Will put him down in crib n I can watch tv! Enjoy a nice evening writing xmas cards. My mistake was to lay down in bed to wait until he settled and fell i asleep. I woke three hours later very hungry lol. But now I can't sleep. Hmm

LO has now been asleep 4 hours! Hopefully he will wake after 3am for a feed. DH has not helped last two nights as he has been getting up at 5am for work , so he is feeding tonight... However if I'm still awake will b no point in waking him.

Right I'm off to read the active threads, hopefully will send me to sleep.

PetiteRaleuse · 05/12/2012 02:15

LO makes goat type noises a lot. Cracks me up.

Well an evening of colic which lasted til midnight this evening my tme and up again now at three. It's payback for the lovely long night she gave me last night.

DH came back from work and straight to bed feeling ill so was on my own :(

Have both the kids at home all day tomorrow so won't be able to nap and a scary phone appointment re a legal matter to look forward to.

Really could have done with last night's sleep through not to be a one off.

Oh well....

Chunkychicken · 05/12/2012 02:57

Loving "the farmyard" blonder!! Hilarious that newborns make such funny noises... :)

GT Def look in the shops for the special dispenser packs for pampers wipes - it isn't much (any?) more than the price of a pack of wipes.

Kind of glad huggies are no longer going to be sold in the UK. A was soaked, as was our bed, despite only being on 3hrs!! He hadn't pooed either, which makes a change. Will be trying other nappies out ASAP!!

Glad you got a rest Dixie & sorry others seem to be having tough nights.

pikz · 05/12/2012 04:07

chunky I have the Huggies issue too. Soooo frustrating and a waste of money. Glad by accident I bought more pampers than Huggies!

Sophiathesnowfairy · 05/12/2012 04:18

I hadn't cheesed that about buggies I only used them about incessant they were pants !!![ fgrin]

Sophiathesnowfairy · 05/12/2012 04:20

Ok go again.....I hadn't heard that about Huggies, I only used them once as they were pantsXmas Grin

Sophiathesnowfairy · 05/12/2012 04:35

Dilema, have just fed Olly, he is super chilled on my shoulder, I can feel he has a really heavy nappy. to change or not to change? Is just wee. But it will properly wake him up. Given that it can be hard to settle him at night at present I am leaning towards not changing.

First night I have not woken up with a night sweat.

GTbaby · 05/12/2012 04:37

Yes got the Huggies email. Never used them. Pampers instead. Although I think detective suggested tesco. So may try them?

And yes I am still awake since last post reading active discussions has not put me to sleep! Y on a night that I don't have to do the feeding? Confused

Saw the pampers wipes box. Will have to look in tesco tomorrow.

Dixiebell · 05/12/2012 04:51

Not change sophia!!! A sleeping baby is obv not being disturbed by a wet nappy!! I have had 3 chunks of sleep now. V.excited about this.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 05/12/2012 04:52

Tesco own are good actually, I always stick with pampers for newborn but switch to Tesco after that.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 05/12/2012 04:54

I ave popped him down, he is grunting away but I am hopeful he will drop off, I am not taking any chances and am surfing for a bit before I snuggle in.

Have discovered brain teaser puzzles on amazon for the girls or Christmas. Father Christmas might be onto a winner!

ValiumQueen · 05/12/2012 05:24

I know nothing of the huggies thing. Do elaborate. I hope I can still get the wipes as I use them for DD2.

I got my pampers wipes plastic box in home bargains. It comes with a teeny pack of wipes but is a good size for my washable wipes. I need to get another as I am fed up of traipsing up and down stairs with the one box I have.

Crap night with J. He had a lovely feed last night at 9 and brought it all up in my bed so we were all soaked. He did not want to feed again all night until just now. We have spent the night in the nursery. He has had unsettled sleep in the cot, disturbed by horrendous coughing fits with mucous that I have tried to wipe out of his mouth. I have napped at best. I hope and pray he keeps this feed down. His nappy was wet and he did a nice poo so I think he is ok. Not dehydrated or anything. It was encouraging there was so much milk as you never quite know how much they are getting. I am holding him upright for as long as possible in a hope to keep food in. Breathing improving it seems.

ValiumQueen · 05/12/2012 05:27

When well he is very quiet in his sleep. The other two were snorters indeed still are. I often lie in bed hearing my husband snoring and can still hear the girls whistling and snuffling above that, and that is along the corridor some way!

I am seriously considering buying a single bed and sharing a room with J. Or better still throw out DH and have the superking to me and my boy.
