That's interesting freddie. She passed lots of meconium previously but I suppose changing formula may have shoved the last bits out. I hope that's it though as she is do much more settled

Peaky1 · 01/12/2012 02:32

Detective at first while things were still very tender I put the witch hazel onto a cotton pad and then wiped that down the clean pad before I put it on. It didn't burn for me but then I only had a small tear with no stitches. Was a nice cold relief though. I also found cold wet wipes directly on Fanjo before the pad going back on was a good relief.

Thanks all for the breast pump opinions and reviews info earlier.

I am feeling very smug about my washables. One leak from them in 5 weeks, and that was my fault. I still have a pile of despicables which I need to use as cannot abide waste. I am a bit behind on the washing of nappies so will use them tomorrow.

rowingdowntheriver · 01/12/2012 03:06

I am so sorry for the loss of your little girl cat. Please never worry about mentioning her here, we want to be here for you if you ever want to talk about her.

ValiumQueen · 01/12/2012 03:10

I second what rowing says cat

Feeling for the girls of november yet to graduate. It must be torture now it is december.

Have we all got advent callendars? Our first activity today is to find it! Oops!

ValiumQueen · 01/12/2012 03:12

Actually an advent thing is an idea to suggest for christmas presents for weans. No use this year as too young obviously, but lovely to start a tradition and they can be pricy. I made mine last year as I am tight.

ValiumQueen · 01/12/2012 03:14

Well, been up for an hour with DS and he keeps falling asleep so off to bed. His cold is rotten. Full of phlegm at back of throat. Not on chest. Hope it does not go on chest. We have all been ill so not surprising really. Glad he has my antibodies to help him.

Sweet dreams all x

ValiumQueen · 01/12/2012 03:17

And thank you horsey I knew you would chastise me about being ageist. I have friends who are grandparents to kids older than mine. And my arse can be seen from space unfortunately.

rowingdowntheriver · 01/12/2012 03:19

Ooh, thanks for reminding me vq, I had completely forgotten about the advent calendar. Have bought one for DS1, now just need to find where I put it!

priscilla101 · 01/12/2012 03:22

Babypriscilla up for his night feed, at 3 weeks he is getting much more efficient at it!

Ooooh vent calendars! But who will eat the baby's chocolate?

priscilla101 · 01/12/2012 03:22

Advent! Not vent!

priscilla101 · 01/12/2012 03:25

Need to work on winding efficiency.....

Peaky1 · 01/12/2012 05:27

Hi all, I'm officially joining you now. Ted Victor (Teddy) was born yesterday at 14.40ish weighing in at 8lb11oz. He's lovely. Just scraped in to November birth, the last one on the thread to manage it I think!

Birth was horrible. I thought it was supposed to get easier with each DCs not harder?! He was back to back, born looking up so was really painful. Quick BS, started getting contractions about 11.30 the night before. By 3 they were every 10 mins so woke DH and my mum to be on standby for ds1. Went in to hospital about 4, where they examined me and told me to go home as cervix right back and not softened. We didn't as contractions were 3 mins apart and painful by then. By 9 I was 4/5cm and they finally allowed me some gas & air. Got to 8cm and was demanding epidural but MW said it wouldn't be long now. But when examined by supervisor she said still fair bit of rim to go and suggested epidural to stop me pushing. Seemed ages before it arrived and by that time the pain/pressure on my back was so strong it didn't seem to do much. Teddy was finally born with ventouse and episiotomy plus sone tearing at 14.40. Man the whole thing was so painful, much worse than ds1! Although actual active labour wasn't overly long. Anyway, Teddy's a champion feeder, even let me catch a few hours sleep overnight, and I can't wait for ds1 to visit later and meet his baby brother :)

Not so short after all...

DesperateHousewife21 · 01/12/2012 07:35

We've all got advent calendars! Ds has peppa pig, I've got maltesers and dh has power rangers! Dd will just have to make do with tasting it through the breast milk!

She still has a cold which is horrible at night, trying to breathe while feeding poor thing :(

TheDetective · 01/12/2012 07:36

YES! 3 hourl feeds last night! Thank you Oscar, you're a star Wink!

Co-sleeping is definitely right for us at the minute!

TheDetective · 01/12/2012 07:38

YES! 3 hourl feeds last night! Thank you Oscar, you're a star Wink! He fed at 9,1230,4,7. Not bad Grin.

Co-sleeping is definitely right for us at the minute!

Now to work out how to stop choking him with oversupply Hmm.

TheDetective · 01/12/2012 07:41

Stupid mn app Hmm

Peaky1 · 01/12/2012 08:24

Yeah the app is meant to be improved! It might look prettier but there's a heck of a lot of bugs with it, grrrr

Peaky1 · 01/12/2012 08:30

How do you guys co-sleep safely? J does go in his carry cot eventually but sometimes all he wants to do is be up here in bed with us on grizzly nights. I also worry if I do find a safe way to allow him up he'll be more stubborn about his carry cot.

Lane...at least I think it was you (I'm on phone and can't check) how old is your baby? I want to start DP giving the odd bottle of expressed milk in prep for me going to a local theatre show this month. He's 3 weeks old today and I've had the seed planted by others to worry that he may get confused. How have you got on?

StuntNun · 01/12/2012 08:35

I got an Eric Carle advent calendar for J, it's a popup one where you get a decoration each day to hang in a popup tree. I'll put a picture on Facebook. It looks like I'll be able to put all the decorations back in and use it every year until he's old enough for chocolate. The other boys are taking it in turns to open their hideously expensive Lego advent calendar but they also have a chocolate one each. This is a calculated investment: since they aren't allowed to open them until they're dressed and have had their breakfast I shouldn't have any problem getting then ready for school in the mornings.

peaky DD1 had a bottle of ebm regularly from about 4 weeks and took to it really well. She's let alone give her a bottle and would still happily feed from me so no issue there whatsoever. DD2 has has a couple of bottle of ebm due to trying to top her up. Been a bit less successful and DH can't get her to take it whereas I can (with a bit I perserverence). We don't have any nipple confusion, she just doesn't really like the bottle which is fair enough! She was under 2 wks when we first tried though, sure she will get better at it as she gets older. She's not had one for about a week.

And re co sleeping, we seem to have found ourselves doing that although I had no intention of co sleeping. I only did it very occasionally with DD1 (whenever I dozed off!) but with DD2 it's been pretty much most of the night. She didn't go in her Moses basket at all last night. I sleep on the edge of the bas and have my right arm round E. I have a nursing pillow (looks a bit like a draught excluder!) wedged between DH and E so he can't roll on her. It's not ideal but we are all getting sleep so at the moment it's working for us. Once E settles into a night time feeding pattern. Which she seems to be getting towards. I will be more persistent in getting her back to the Moses basket after a feed.

Thanks or the reminders, I need to get the advent calendars out. No choccies ones this year, DD2 was a nightmare with one last year so this year she has an nativity scene with pop out characters that she adds every morning. I have a Lego one Blush stunt just seen yours on fb. Love the tree one.

I've lost count as to who we are still waiting to graduate, will check the stats.

Got to go and get ready for DD1s nursery Xmas party now!

ValiumQueen · 01/12/2012 09:17

That is a very good idea to make sure kids are up and dressed before opening their advent things. I shall be doing that.

Mums of boys (yes I know, not PC) please tell me about Lego. All I see are fancy packs that seem to make up fancy bits. Can you just get the bricks these days? Do kids play well with the fancy packs? Are they worth it? Just thinking ahead for DS, and I think DD2 would love it. I did get a little tiny set of Lego friends for DD1. Her dad made it on her request, and it is now gathering dust.

Passmethecrisps · 01/12/2012 09:59

Congrats and welcome dixie

I am another one who needs to work on winding strategy priscilla.

I discovered last night that if P is asleep when I put her back in her Moses basket she sleeps soundly. If she is just dozy and left to self-settle she gringes in her sleep for hours.
