Well I'm up with dh.

Ds full of cold think I'll call the hv about everything.

Not been sick for 12 hours now. Feeling more human just weak :( I missed ds so much last night :(

Chunkychicken · 30/11/2012 11:11

Fed A laying down most of last night because his cold is almost gone, and despite feeding almost all night (or so it felt) I feel less tired because I slept rather than MN'd... Had DD in bed with us too!!

Welcome tiny hope your LO keeps making good progress.

Feel better soon horsey.

Passmethecrisps · 30/11/2012 11:48

Thank you for the advice for sister. I wonder if she needs more help feeding him. She also seems so feel he is feeding a lot but I think it's about right. Hay ho.

evil P still just lives in vests and baby grows. She gets a blanket if I feel chilly.

TheDetective · 30/11/2012 12:24

Just put my mascara on mid feed. Awesome! Us women can multitask!

YellowWellies · 30/11/2012 12:44

Pass I'd second what others have said about the hungry baby food. My DSIL recommended it as a way to knock out babies and get them to sleep and used it for her little boy who was on sleep strike from the 4 month sleep regression - but for such a small baby - really deep sleep is possibly dangerous - they're meant to sleep lightly to avoid sleep apnoea and SIDS. Also the constipation side effect was brutal even for a 4 month old - for such a little one - it'd be hellish. As others have said maybe she just needs some tips on feeding?

Tinyeyes welcome - and welcome to your impatient wee one! My sister had her daughter at 27 weeks last year - it is scary biscuits at times isn't it - if you have any worries about early baby stuff and life in the SCBU - please get in touch - she's on here and I can put you in touch. She's been through the works but her little girl is now a bouncing 15 month old and full of mischief.

Jonas slept from 12.15 til 5.15 Shock the love is unconditional but man it's easier when you've had a bit of sleep. I luffs him even though it's like sharing a room with a puppy with all the snorts, whines and squeaks in the night. Just waiting for the HV to come and heft his pigletness onto the scales...

Elizadoesdolittle · 30/11/2012 12:49

peaky I have swing. I used an avent one with DD1 but I lost a part to it so my friend lent me her swing. It's much better than my old pump, I get so much more out quicker. Still not the best at expressing but I don't mind doing it a couple of times a day if I have a moment.

jims sorry to hear your little one has been poorly but glad the infection has been treated.

I'm waiting on the result of a urine test for E. I've got to go back to the hospital on Sunday to get the results and get her weighed again. She seems to be quite sicky after feeds at the moment so I don't think she will have put on a satisfactory weight gain. Also got to have the heel prick done again as there wasn't enough blood for them to perform the tests. Oh joy!

YellowWellies · 30/11/2012 12:55

Peaky I got a spectra 3 after someone (brain gone sorry can't remember which of you lovely ladies it was) recommended it. I really rate it - it's not as good as the hospital grade ones like the Ameda but my word for a home pump you get a lot of milk quickly. And it is super quiet so you can pump with the baby on the other boob without disturbing them. Though I tend to double pump during J's morning nap to get the most milk out. and scare the postman

Passmethecrisps · 30/11/2012 13:16

I was also a spectra 3 girl. I didn't use it for long but it was a life saver while I was using it. In 15 minutes if double pumping I could get well over 200ml.

I am in my pre-pregnancy jeans! There is more of my arse outside of them than in them but that's not the point is it?

FatimaLovesBread · 30/11/2012 13:35

Afternoon all, still not had chance to catch up. How dare the baby interrupt my MNing.

Had a really good night last night, managed to get 7 hours sleep in total. She's currently having a good snooze so tht I can have a bath and get dressed.
We're going out for tea tonight so I may have to find an outfit that doesn't consist of trackie bottoms. I'm also going to have to experience public breast feeding for the first time, I'm betting I'll end up showing the whole pub my boob Grin

daisychain76 · 30/11/2012 13:45

Hi tiny and congrats. My LO was in special care for nearly 3 weeks and l still get a bit teary at times thinking about bits of it(he is 10 weeks on Monday) but once they are out it is amazing how quickly things get back to normal and they start to develop and grow

YellowWellies · 30/11/2012 13:47

Fatima my first public BF was at the office when showing J off. Once your colleagues and boss have seen your norks I figure there's nowt more to be embarrassed about!

Pass you've just described my jeans style - though these were bought to be roomy post baby jeans. Damn cakes. Damn internet shopping.

daisychain76 · 30/11/2012 14:13

By the time you get to your 3rd you will whip flop them out anywhere ~ H has been fed in church, school playground, many cafes, market and tescos to name a few.

Am fed up ~ employer has just written to tell me my maternity leave will start from when l went in hospital rather then when H. was born. Means I?II have to go back 2 weeks earlier unless l can find some grounds to challenge it Sad

PetiteRaleuse · 30/11/2012 14:47

Daisy, that sounds wrong. We are spoilt over here for maternity leave. Tey are much tougher and less generous in the UK.

My DDs are having a competition to see who can produce the most shitty nappies. I'm no longer sure it is a gastro that DD1 has, could be the flu. She was just sick once this morning but her fever is very high since yesterday. I phoned her creche this morning to say she was staying at home at the lady said there are loads of nasty bugs going round at the moment.

Snow starting this weekend. Really cold weather needed to get rid of the bugs.

LO having larger than usual feeds and spacing them out more. She's 6 weeks today. Is that a growth spurt moment?

GTbaby · 30/11/2012 16:13

Oh my goodness Confused. LO has been awake since about 9. Half hour nap at 11.30 then woke for 12 feed and has been up since.
Just finished the 3pm feed, burp, change nappy cycle n trying to get him to sleep. Awake for 6 hours with half hour nap at 6weeks old can not b good.
Got him swaddled on my chest lights turned off. It's so hard as he won't b put down for more then 10 mins n then starts wailing.
Got my BFF arriving soon for tea n samosa lol. But then got 3 of DH mates plus wives n Babies at 8. Not worried about cooking for them as DH will sort it. But need to clean bathroom and do ironing. Will let my BFF have cuddle time while I do chores lol

Been reading thread all day but haven't posted and now can't remember what I had to say.

Someone asked about medala swing. I liked mine, however packed up now as my milk dried up. Points to note, take off the membrane (white rubber disk) n wash that. N the nozzle part that attaches to membrane detaches for washing. Mine came attached so it took me a while to realise this.
Next sometimes the membrane sticks and milk doesn't come thro meaning it collects at top n gets sucked into tube. Keep an eye out for this, if it happens stop pumping , open bottle nudge membrane to milk is released. Failure to do this results in wasting milk Sad and having to stop pumping untill u have cleaned and dried the tubing. AND pumping works better ( for me) using compression techniques. I found running the side of my hand down / from outside my boob towards my nipple the best method.

Oh yeah and welcome tiny hope LO is doing well.

Right he is asleep on chest. Got to mk the transfer now. Please please don't wake up.

leedy · 30/11/2012 16:22

Hello, can I join in? DS2 was born a whole 16 days ago, slightly unexpectedly at 38 weeks (emergency C due to pre-eclampsia). Currently lying on a cushion staring at stuff, which is an exciting novelty after his older brother who wanted to be carried all the time. Though he has made up for it by having a giant growth spurt feeding festival over the last couple of nights. Bleurgh.

Also sympathies to other mums of becolded infants, smallest person picked up a cold from his big brother and now sounds like Darth Vader. He's feeding fine and doesn't have a temperature, just snotty, and also somewhat windy from gulpy feeds. Have been running a humidifier in the bedroom, deploying the saline nose drop torture, and bringing him into the bathroom with me when I have a shower and it seems to be clearing up but still not fun for anyone.

Passmethecrisps · 30/11/2012 16:25

Good luck with that GT!

FreddieMercurysBolero · 30/11/2012 16:46

Welcome tiny and congrats on your lo:)

Hope you're feeling better now horsey, it's horrible to be sick on top of being exhausted and looking after a new baby.

DS2 had his first jab today, the BCG. god I hate them. Just glad to get it over with, and he was good as gold. DS1 has a cold now, poor thing. But it means he is snuggled on the couch beside me which is nice. ÃŽ miss snuggles with him:(

And my Mum is packed off to my sisters for the weekend, woo! Looking forward to pizza tonight and rubbish tv, it's impossible to watch tv with my Mum here, she talks and talks and talks through it about various distant relatives and old neighbours. Ugh.

DS2 has been feeding for 2 hours now... Going to try and get him to sleep and tackle the laundry mountain...

ValiumQueen · 30/11/2012 17:00

Ooh. I've been selected for that testing thing for scars! Exciting stuff! Also hoping for a new posh pump. Feeling lucky.

Got 1.5 hours sleep today when boy slept. I sent the girls to grandma as I was not coping. Feel like a bad mummy and miss them. I can cope with baby waking at night, but when the other two were poorley too it was a bit much. Had a huge row with DH this morning as I said how tired I was, and he said he was too, and I asked how he could be as he has slept all night for all the time baby has been here. It was not pretty, but he did apologise.

horseylady · 30/11/2012 17:16

Well ds has a cold but nothing more serious. We are to keep an eye on him. Dr was lovely.

Good news I haven't been sick or had the runs since 2am. Kept down plenty of fluids and three slices of toast. Just going through all the bloody washing now :( still feel wobbley but guess that's to be expected. Stomach feels delicate but considering I cant remember ever having a stomach bug I don't actually know what to do!! Neither dh or I really Slept last night so fingers crossed tonight is better!!

Gt ds was awake from 6am to about 3am this morning!! He only cat napped. He's proper grumpy today but also full of cold poor chap.

Catbag · 30/11/2012 18:00

Hey vq, I've been selected for the Kelo-cote thing too! (I've also got my fingers crossed for the pump). Sorry to hear that you've been having a crappy day, but I think that sending your daughters to their grandma's was a 'good mummy' thing to fo. It sounds like you know your limits and you were sensible in finding them somewhere else to be.

FreddieMercurysBolero · 30/11/2012 18:03

Oh yaay valium :). I am hoping for posh pump too! Fingers crossed we both get it. Dont feel bad about sending the girls off, better to have a break so you dont end up being a shouty mum:)

Horsey, if you can get someone to go to pharmacy and get some diarholyte, do. And eat if you can, bananas or toast and lots of water.

Ds is STILL feeding. Gah. Maybe he will sleep a little later on so I can eat my dinner with both hands:)

glendathegoodwitch · 30/11/2012 18:07

Hey ladies

I'm soooooo fed up today - a very young staff nurse from the HV team came over today to weigh Dottie to make sure she had regained birth weight as its day 18 - she hasn't!!!! Still 3ozs off though she is gaining!!! She asked me 7 times if I was happy with feeding - YES - I am a 37 yr old 3rd time mom, who works in a maternity ward and is about to start her midwifery training. Dottie is alert, weeing, pooing and feeding like a monster but I still have to take her to the gp and have her weight checked next week. She is bang on the 50th centile so not too big or too small.

I have a shitty headache because things like this stress me out!

Sorry for the rant - feels like I've been on the verge of tears all day!!!

leedy · 30/11/2012 18:16

That's infuriating, glenda, and justifiably rantworthy. My own current local public health nurse (Irish equivalent of HV) is mercifully not obsessed with weight, but I know a few people who've been hounded by PHNs about weight gain, including one friend who says her eldest's entire early babyhood was spoiled for her by constant nagging/checkups. Small consolation, I know, but at least you are an experienced mum and know that there's nothing wrong with your baby.

Catbag · 30/11/2012 18:41

Oh glenda, that must be so stressful for you. I can't believe how obsessed health visitors seem to be with weight. Surely it is just one piece of a bigger picture in terms of a baby's health?
I'm quite lucky with my health visitor. She is a little annoying, but she is the same hv that i have had for 5 of my 6 children so she has some understanding of my 'ways', lol, and doesn't force the issue if I've made my feelings clear. She was also around when i lost one of my twins ten years ago and so i think she wants to be closely involved with there twins for her own piece of mind more than anything else. She took my daughter's death badly and had a full on breakdown in my front room a couple of weeks later. One thing that she has been trying to get me to consider is having a volunteer from homestart come in for a couple of hours a week to give me some time to do things. I dismissed it immediately as i wasn't comfortable with the thought of a stranger coming in to my home and looking after my babies (even though i would be there too). However, as they will not sleep anywhere except on people ( 99% of the time that's me), I'm starting to wonder if i was a little hasty. What do you all think about it? I don't have family to come in and help- it's just me and occasionally DH.
On a more positive note, Saul has caught River up in terms of weight and they are consistently putting on half a pound a week each. They now weigh 8lbs 1 and 8lbs 3 respectively which makes the fact that they are feeding ALL the time more bearable. I had been worrying that i had not been producing enough milk since they don't sleep, but i guess they're just tyrants who refuse to sleep anywhere they should do. I am full of respect for anyone who can put their LO down for a nap!

Catbag · 30/11/2012 18:43

Ye gods, PEACE of mind, not piece!
