Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Oh bugger, Johnathan has just projectile vomited out his nose and mouth everywhere he's really lethargic now, just clinging onto me sleeping.
Now, he's been sleepier than normal today, I assumed he was coming out a growing spurt. I've managed to convince myself he's poorly.

I had curry last night, could that have made him ill? Or the small baileys I had yesterday?
He's still not bringing up wind so maybe that's it?

Urgh, how do I tell when he's unwell or not?!

Passmethecrisps · 29/11/2012 18:03

Yikes tits! Does he have a temperature? Is it not just likely that he is tired after growing? Maybe he just overate? Honestly though, I have no idea. I am sure other more useful people will have better advice.

Titsalinabumsquash · 29/11/2012 18:08

Sensible tits is saying, sleepy after the growth spurt and wind has caused the vom, it was only once or maybe he just picked up a tummy upset, he has no temp or signs of dehydration ect so to watch him and see what happens.

Anxiety tits has decided he's uber poorly and needs medical attention stat Blush

ValiumQueen · 29/11/2012 18:09

tits mummy knows best. If you are worried, get him checked out. Is he tired like normal or lethargic? Peeing? Pooing? Has he vomited more than once? Temp? Fontanelle sunken? Dry mouth? Follow your instinct x

Passmethecrisps · 29/11/2012 18:11

Damned split personality! It's exactly the same as the me who lies in bed listening to P gringing thinking "please go to sleep" then she goes silent so I creep to the end of the bed and poke her a bit to be sure she is breathing.

Not to worry - it will only be like this for the rest of our lives [big grin]

Passmethecrisps · 29/11/2012 18:13

Good advice VQ.

How are you anyway? You're such a star with support for others - are you getting any more sleep?

Titsalinabumsquash · 29/11/2012 18:17

It's hard to tel if sleepy or lethargic, he's had no sleep pattern since he's been born and we've had the several nights of screaming and screaming followed by last night of settled sleeping, he is snoring though. Grin

No other symptoms, it's more the sudden force of the entire feed coming back at me, he's never done that before and it didn't even seem to bother him, he just looked a bit miffed and promptly went back to sleep on my shoulder.

I'm just going to nip into the shower baby sick in the hair/face isn't attractive then I'll see what happens, I'll wake him in a while for a feed and keep hawk eyed for any other symptoms.

The bigger part of me doesn't think he's ill, I don't want to call the dr to tell them my baby has been sick once , I think I just have mummy anxiety, I'm terrified of him breaking in anyway.

horseylady · 29/11/2012 18:20

Pass hungry baby reads that it's more suitable for babies just before weaning (so from around4/5 months). Can she stop him feeding part way through? When e is getting worked up about feeding we give him a dummy and it calms him down before feeding. Not every feed but some are worse than others!!

Tits Maybe just give NHS24 a ring for advice? In my experience you can't be over anxious when it comes to babies - they just can't tell you something is wrong!

Today, I have learned that my breast milk is very very sticky Hmm. My left boob has a mind of its own. As soon as it is freed it starts dripping away. It literally pours out, and you can hear Oscar gulping trying to keep up with the flow! He doesn't even need to suck Hmm. In fact, he lay underneath my boob with his mouth open and just let it drip in earlier. Hmm Lazy boy!

I have also learned that there is no point running a bath. Ever. I ran one at 1.30pm. I have not been for it yet.

Oh, and, wise words VQ, very wise words.

I may go and empty the bath, and run a new one. Oscar has been dispatched to Daddy so I could eat my tea. Fajhitas was just too messy to manage with him in my arms! Grin

Sophiathesnowfairy · 29/11/2012 19:25

horsey I agree with all, don't worry, I am shit at breast feeding, stupidly I haven't taken the hint and have tried with three out of four of my DCs and not lasted very long with any of them, a record at four days this time! I didn't even try with DD2 as I had felt so much guilt at giving up with DD1 and actually, probably just fluke, but she is the healthiest and most balanced child out of all of them so far. Giving you a big hug, you have done the right ing and spending precious time being happy with your new baby is most important of all you will never get this time back and you need to be making happy memories.

Thanks

Xx

KissysUnderTheMisteltoe · 29/11/2012 19:26

Well said VQ

HV came today and did LO's hearing test, which she passed, so very happy about that. I was a bit worried about it beforehand, not sure why really. Also she's back up to her birth weight, so it's all good Smile

Congrats to any new graduates!

Sophiathesnowfairy · 29/11/2012 19:26

pass the only thing about hungry milk is I think it has a habit of causing constipation. Better to up his bottles I should imagine and may be advised to wean early.........from my limited knowledge.

Passmethecrisps · 29/11/2012 19:44

Thanks horsey and sophia. She was advised to try to feed more and more often. My feeling is she maybe needs someone to watch her feed and guide her in how and when to pause him eating

YellowWellies · 29/11/2012 19:49

Lovely words VQ - Horsey, Sophia I bet your wee ones are more settled now you are happier, our stress levels are pretty powerful stuff for the evicted bellydwellers.

Evilwater · 29/11/2012 20:20

Tits- just see if its a one off thing. If he keeps vomiting, then call someone.

Horsey- my LO is not a good sucker, he has trouble with the bottle some days, and they said he would be a breast feeding star! Hmm it got to the stage where he cried for 2 hours at night and DP drove to tesco and got FF. The midwife said that now tesco is open 24 hours, people tend to "find it easier". What was I surposed to do with a hungry baby, that had been crying for hours at 3am?? In fact I manged to pump off 5oz of breast milk, yesterday ( which is the same amount he drinks when having formula) he drank the lot and 3 oz of FF.

Now he is on FF, he is piling on the pounds, and is more alert, and feeling more satisfied. We got him the medula bottles to get him to work on his suck, and I try him on the breast, but it's just not working for him.
Yes I was up set with not being able to BF, but now I can go out, and he can have a stress free meal.

Now just to get the wind/ colic sorted......
See you all at 0200.

Yay we're home with Olivia! I WILL go back and catch up on the thread but have a quick question. When I had my epidural it seemed to instantly lengthen my epiglotis, making me gag because it now dangles down and touches the back of my tongue. Any idea why, or how I can get it to reduce in size?!

PetiteRaleuse · 29/11/2012 21:05

Excellent post VQ

TheDetective · 29/11/2012 21:12

I fell asleep in the bath Blush.

PetiteRaleuse · 29/11/2012 21:47

I would love to have a lovely long bath. As it is we only have a shower. Didn't think that through when we moved here.

Peaky1 · 29/11/2012 23:17

Congrats Miss on getting home! I'm sorry to say I've never heard of the epiglottis being effected by an epidural! I hope someone can answer that for you. Have you googled it?

Hope everyone else is getting on ok.

StuntNun · 29/11/2012 23:36

Pass is she holding the bottle too upright so the milk keeps coming with no break? Rather than holding it so the milk just covers the back of the teat allowing baby to pause while feeding? Other than that no clue I'm afraid. My MIL says her first used to bf until he was sick everywhere and then start again.

Is your tongue swollen missL? Drink plenty so your not dehydrated.

GTbaby · 30/11/2012 00:54

I am so angry. I think LO has tongue tie. When I mentioned it to mil she said. "Yeah I noticed but I didn't want to say" r u joking. U can comment on use of dummies, amount of gripe water we use, tightness of nappy, his outfit is not comfortable u don't move his head enough. But something is wrong with LO n we should get it checked, n this she can't tell us. I am fuming beyond belief.

Tongue tie would add to the list of things that meant bf didn't work. I feel guilty when I think about how things r easier because we r ff. regular like clock work. Can go out easier. Not being up all night. But I do feel Like I missed out on something. But then I think about some of u here who have had rough labours, LOs have had medical probs or as someone mentioned earlier some ladies who joined us but had to leave us earlier. N not bf doesn't seem very important. I don't want to dismiss my feelings or not acknowledge that's its hard and upsetting. However puts things in prospective.

Enough of my rambles I'm off to fume about mil stupidity.
