Congratulations missl Thanks

No sleep here either. N is still so snuffly it's keeping her awake :(

horseylady · 29/11/2012 07:29

Snuffly baby here too!! Though I did get a good chunk of sleep when he first woke at 420 to feed!! He had had a lot To eat in the day.

Didn't really go back to sleep again though. Never mind. Were snuggled in bed about to start the day with feed one!!!

Chunkychicken · 29/11/2012 08:53

Congrats missL although shame it was a difficult time.

DesperateHousewife21 · 29/11/2012 09:06

Yay miss you made it into nov in the end! Are we waiting on anyone else now?

kirrin glad N is ok it's never nice having to go to hospital with them.

Dh told me I pood in the birthing pool, I prob weed too but at least it wouldn't have shown!
I wouldn't have minded but I went to the loo LOADS after my waters went so didn't think there was anything left to come out!

TheDetective · 29/11/2012 09:19

Congratulations MissL aren't the new mummy hormones just such a lovely feeling!

Can anyone recommend any decent breast pads? My left boob is like a leaky tap and my asda ones aren't up to the job! Just had to wrap a muslin cloth around the boobs coz both my feeding bras now need washing!

Chunkychicken · 29/11/2012 09:28

I just doubled up detective but lansinoh ones are meant to be good but are bloody pricey. Sainsburys ones are shit. Itchy & not v absorbant.

ValiumQueen · 29/11/2012 10:21

detective shove the crap pampers nappy on your boob!

Congratulations missL

DD1 ill now. Small baby plus two sick kids is not fun.

Passmethecrisps · 29/11/2012 10:22

detective I found the Johnson & Johnson ones were pretty good. Even for my cow-like mammaries

eversomuch · 29/11/2012 10:41

Hi all, I have been lurking the past several weeks, whenever, that is, that I've had a spare moment to get on MN. In-laws were here for first 3 wks (what a luxury! not used to having family around to rely on) and DH is home most of this wk, but today is my first day on my own with toddler & newborn. So far, so good.

DS will be 4 wks tomorrow and doing great. Already outgrowing lots of clothes -- not surprising as he's semi-permanently attached to the boob. Waking 2-3 times during the night, but manageable for the most part. Such a sweetie. After getting used to having DD, I wondered what on earth I'd do with a boy, but the moment I saw him, I got so excited about the adventures we'll have. Am so in love w/ these kids.

Recovery from ELCS sooo much smoother than from EMCS. That has been a huge relief, as last yr's experience was a nightmare.

Re: breastpads, detective, I use the Little Lambs washable ones. They're great and I got into the habit of washing each pair out by hand when done w/ them, so I always have them available. Have doubled them up when nec too.

Congrats to all the recent grads and arrivals. Love seeing the pics on FB even if I don't comment or post much there (or anywhere) these days.

horseylady · 29/11/2012 10:41

I never had to use any :( I bought asda ones and some from mothercare. I gave them and the nipple cream to my cousin!!

Saying that in the shower last night while checking boobs milk came out of both :( then I thought should I try again?? Then I remembered my boobs and nipples (small and flat) compared to everyone else and decided I'm setting myself up for failure. And were happy. Why upset everything?

horseylady · 29/11/2012 10:42

Vq hugs wondered why you'd been quiet. Hope all calms down.

Chunkychicken · 29/11/2012 11:03

Shame you're getting upset about it again horsey but nipple shape & size isn't a problem for bfing necessarily - my RL friend had inverted nipples but fed her DS until he was 2yo & only stopped because pg dried her milk up. Apparently, they are no longer inverted (just flat/not so pokey out as 'usual') but I've never actually seen them!!!

Sympathies VQ had DD ill when DS was a day or 2 old. No sleep for me!

everso I felt the same when I saw DS's boy bits. I was so expecting another girl.

YellowWellies · 29/11/2012 11:08

Horsey it's totally your choice and you have to do what is right for you - particularly if you now feel that you are on an even keel. But I couldn't resist commenting on one thing (because I think there are a lot of myths out there which put women off BFing) - boob size. It has feck all to do with BFing abilities. My sis and I are not blessed naturally - indeed a nickname at school was 'treasure' - she of the sunken chest (to which I'd retort 'they don't make diamonds as big as bricks' ) - but that hasn't stopped BFing for either of us. Boob size doesn't correlate with milk production abilities. Not sure about nipple size - mine are quite big Blush TMI... but I know some of the other mummies on here have said they have quite flat ones and can BF. There are a lot of myths about BFing and I think we ought to knock them on the head if it means that more women will be confident in their own bodies :)

YellowWellies · 29/11/2012 11:21

Woo can I make a recommendation?

Mr J likes to be swaddled, but he's a piglet and tends to fill himself up to the gunwhales on a night feed - so when I'm lifting and manoeuvring him around to swaddle him it tends to cause hiccups or posseting.

I saw these swaddle shell on a Mamas and Papas email and promptly bought one on ebay for a fiver. TOTAL GENIUS. The wee man is happily swaddled, can't twat himself in the face / scratch his eyes out, yet you just zip him in when replete after a feed with no faffy wrapping and resultant voms. And - comedy gold - he has a new nickname. Baby maggot!

Chunkychicken · 29/11/2012 11:35

Don't think it was a growth spurt last night, just cluster feeding, as he went 3hrly between feeds, so up at 2 ish, then 5ish. First time since he got his cold.

Think he's also making a developmental leap - he was awake a fair while yesterday evening and then again this morning; he didn't fall deeply asleep during a feed & when he was grumpy & I gave boob again, he took a bit but took himself off, yawning & getting more grumpy. Had to wrap him in a blanket and cuddle until he dozed off. That's a first!!

Chunkychicken · 29/11/2012 11:36

Oh and YW agree totally wrt bf myths etc.

ValiumQueen · 29/11/2012 11:50

horsey as you know, I am very pro bf, but I am more concerned about your mental health, and think in your particular situation, I would encourage you to keep moving forward, and looking forward. For several reasons, none your fault, it did not work out this time. Try again with your next child Smile

LO's cold or whatever it is has got to the coughing stage. For a very tiny person she can make a lot of noise. DD1, DH and myself are all coughing too. It was noisy in our room last night (DD1 insisting on co-sleeping at the moment)

StuntNun · 29/11/2012 12:51

Lane we started a dummy on day 3 when it became evident J wouldn't settle without something to suck. I only use it when I feel he needs some comfort but doesn't want the breast, e.g. when he's having pains after feeding or so he can put himself to sleep in his cot with the mobile on. Some babies just need to suck. My DS1 is nine now and still always has something in his mouth or is chewing his collar or sleeve. Makes me wish I could put the dummy back in when I have to buy him a new school coat because his is chewed!

I just managed 2 hours asleep while DP paced the floors with DS. He is now back on the boob. Even though he has fed all night plus had a 50ml ebm top up when DP took him downstairs after a mammoth feed.

I'm writing today off. I'm sore and tired. I'm going to try and have a bath when he finally gets off the boob.

I'm behind to resent the number of visits by midwives/bf peer support/hv that are coming over the next week. I'd just like to hibernate. The times they turn up are always the worst because between 9-12 is usually the only sleep I'm getting aside from 1 hour or so overnight. Baaaah.
