J does poo'splosions! He'll also wait until poppers are being closed before doing another giant one. Grin

J screams the whole time he's having his nappy changed then stops as soon as the last popper is closed. Does anyone else's do this? DH left for Japan yesterday and as I'm having trouble getting out of bed I decided to co-sleep. It ended up with J right in the middle of the bed with me perched on the edge and freezing cold because I didn't want the duvet to cover his face. Cue a serious sense of humour failure.

Stunt Jonas is exactly the same re nappies if he's the slightest bit hungry or cold. Only 1 nappy in 3 is wail free!

nappy changing is the same here, wah, wah, wah, my mum is horrible - for the whole duration. he doesn't get bored of this - ever,

YW We tried a dummy when things were really bad last week but he isn't really interested either. My DSis gives good finger milk though.

Stunt We used to get screams all the way through nappy changes but I was just commenting to DH that it has dwindled, maybe 50% of the time now which is quite good given how much he hates being on his back.

On a similar subject, how much of the day do people's babies spend awake but content? i.e. not feeding, changing or crying? I thought it would be more than it is although we've noticed an increase over time. It is hard to find an appropriate moment to do any basic activities like tummy time or making faces. Am I expecting too much or is my baby unusual in only being happy when he's eating or sleeping?

I'm relieved to hear other people's LOs hate nappy changing. It's the only time P gets herself really worked up and does screamy cries. I did change one then other day and she was peaceful but all others are screamers.

At exactly 2 weeks old today P's awake time varies. Yesterday she was awake for a good hour to hour and a half after two of her feeds. We were playing her music but nothing different to usual - I think she was just awake. She was looking around and listening to the music. Today, however, she has slept and eaten. She isn't finishing feeds before falling asleep.

pass I think things are beginning to settle a bit and then something happens. The wind seems to be back today.

peaky the OSFA fit J with one insert and a bamboo booster, folded over to give more absorption at the front. He is 10lb 7 now.

DS does not cry at nappy changes. I put it down to the washable wipes mainly, and the soothing solution at room temp. The washable nappies are softer too. In the first few days in disposables, he screamed even with cotton wool and warm water.

The MW has been out and is much happier with my incision now, apparently it's only open at the left side now but I think it's pulling open when I lie on my left side so I'm trying to avoid doing that. I was hoping she would weigh J but he was asleep so she's going to let the HV do that tomorrow.

I have had great news that my best friend has been assigned a child by the adoption agency so her and her DH hope to get him early next year. I'm sure they'll have their hands full adopting a five year old but they've had such a long journey through infertility treatment then getting turned down for IVF. So now we'll be new mums together.

I've got washable wipes too VQ although he is happy with cw and water too - I think the cleaning is his favourite bit. It's mainly being laid down on his back and having his clothes taken off - our house is fairly warm but he seems to object on principle. Is he a prude?!

We have far more happy nappy changes than a few weeks ago though so I think he is getting the hang of it. I love katkit's description, we are mean mummies!

stunt what great news for your friend. To give a child a fresh start is a wonderful thing. And how exciting to be new mums together.

VQ you are just not catching a break are you?

DH has only recently gone to work - all he wants to do is hang out with us but he needs to go and get into his own routine again. He is talking about taking P into work one day a week once he gets sorted.

My DDs just slept long enough for me to do the ironing. Damn it, they've been a wonderful excuse to do nothing :)

We all fell asleep at half 3, luckily I woke up after half an hour so woke ds up because he shouldn't really be sleeping then but now he's being horrible. Now he knows what it's like to be woken when you don't want to be!

I now feel more tired and have a headache on top- great!

Welcome pikz not read your birth story, but with an EMCS I am guessing it was a bit of an ordeal. Welcome baby pikz

pass I think once you have more than one child, you never do get a break. Plus I am very old too. DD2 has not been too bad today, but it is always the evenings when they are worse.

petite ironing? Are you mad?

Have you all seen the request for testers of a philips electric pump? I've put my name down - you get to keep it afterwards!

Rubbish horsey! Falling over above the age of 7 is just no good. The appeal of plasters and picking scabs faded somewhat.

I fell over while lifting P off the changing mat in the early hours of the morning last week. I tried to get up with my legs only if that makes sense as I was holding P. I misjudged it and ended up staggering and falling onto my knees and side. I skinned my knee on the rug but my concern of course was P. she was entirely unaware.

P has fallen asleep on me following some tummy time. We don't have a mat or anything yet so she just clambers about on me. I am obviously boring!

Oh Jesus this baby has started the screamathon again, already had both breasts, nappy changed, winded. really not sure I can do another night of it. Sad

Report
StuntNun · 26/11/2012 18:25

Sorry to hear that Tits. Try and remember that you are sleep deprived and therefore not fully functional and try not to worry to much when you're threatening to send baby back at 2 a.m. My first six weeks with DS1 were the longest six weeks of my life. But it will settle down for you.

I have given J a bath in the hope that it will help him sleep but it'll more likely just let him prepare himself for keeping me up all night again. He loved his bath though, kicked his legs happily and cried when I took him out.

tits nights can be so hard! Does your LO have colic? Can DH take him out in the pram or car for an hour or so? Anything which would give you a rest for a while.

Congrats pikz! Welcome to the grad thread.

DP is walking with him atm, he's got to drive several hrs for work at 5am though, I worry about him crashing, he's already zombified.
I might have to get a sling, can anyone recommend an easy one to use? I have a ring sling but just can't get to grips with it even after the tons of YouTube tutorials. We also have a generic front carrier but he's way to small for it.

blonderthanred · 26/11/2012 18:43

Thank you kirrin, I've applied.

Tits it is so hard, I know that feeling of despondence as the evening approaches and the screaming begins. DS is much improved though - maybe he has passed a growth spurt or maybe the Infacol helped - and I am starting to feel better. Keep going, we're all here for you. The night feeds thread on the B&FF forum is also a good support I find.

Sorry tits we have a baby Bjorne but we have never used it. horsey uses her sling regularly, maybe she can help.

Poor all of you - sounds miserable.
