madam & horsey I've always thought sleeping through meant not needing a feed between the bed time feed & the breakfast feed.

I also leak LOADS when feeding, but my right boob is prone to leaking between feeds too :( I use breast shells to collect the leakage in the morning & collect a couple of oz easily, ready to go in the freezer.

DH is back at work tomorrow. Thank god. If he moans once more about how tired/busy he is, I might hurt him. I have got up after him on no more than 2 occassions since Aaron's birth (2wks today) despite having loads of sleep & barely doing the odd nappy in the middle of the night. Really hoping I can nap when DD does, if DS doesn't decide to be awake then!!

I've never been tempted to go to ff or ebm for night feeds so DH can do it as I'd have to wake him up, make sure the bottle is made up ok, keep him awake & check baby is put back in bed ok. SOOOOO much easier to slap a boob in baby's mouth...

Titsalinabumsquash · 25/11/2012 20:51

I'd kill for 7hrs sleep atm. Maybe if J was in the Moses basket I'd get more?

NervousAt20 · 25/11/2012 20:57

madam we do have some RL support so that's good, my mum works FT but will do as much as she can and DPs mum will help alot

CharleeWarlee · 25/11/2012 21:15

Chunky Im not BF'ing, Zara is on formula so milk is just leaking. I didnt BF with DD1 and never had the blocked ducts problem. I spoke to my mum and she said she suffered from mastitis (sp?) when she had me Angry

Feeling very hormonal atm, poor DP. I actually feel sorry for him with all the shit he's taken off me Blush

GTbaby · 25/11/2012 21:33

Getting awful stomach cramps Sad feels quite periodyConfused but I'm not sure Blush.
I don't usually get bad stomach cramps tho. This is more painful stomach is tender Sad. Would explain the back ach which I usually get for few days before af.

DH is on night shift n we register LO tomorrow late morning so no chance of a lay in. Should maybe pack bag tonight. Good idea!

StuntNun · 25/11/2012 21:40

Thanks VQ, my incision seems to be coming together at last and the infection has cleared up although it is still bleeding a tiny bit at 10 days so it looks like I'm in the clear. The MW will have a look at it tomorrow. Hopefully by the time my tummy deflates and I can see it it will be a nice neat scar.

I'm off to bed as J has been fussing all day so I'll need my rest for the night feeding marathon. It took me 25 minutes to change the bed sheets so I hope to have a sweat / vom / leaky nappy-free night.

I also count sleeping through from last feed at night to first feed in morning so probably about 6/7 hours straight. I can't remember when DD1 went through for 12 hours straight. Maybe round 5 or 6 months. And like chunky I know babies who have been ff from birth that wake regularly for a night feed up to the age of 1. I also know someone who's DS first slept for a stretch of 6 hours at the age of 2. He was bf, how she coped ill never know. But I think re sleeping it seems to me to be down to the babies themselves, not how they are fed.

nervous that's so awful, your poor DH. I hope you get lots of help and support. What a horrible situation for you.

blonderthanred · 25/11/2012 22:31

Chunky that sounds like a good idea about the breast shells, I always weep a little at the waste when I soak through a vest top or create a little river down myself.

I'm finding it hard to imagine ever sleeping through, at the moment we are struggling to find any kind of routine that works for DS and also makes sure DH gets enough sleep. DS's pattern is changing daily and we've been battling wind/colic issues. Hoping things will resolve themselves with time.

VQ how did you get on with the gripe water?

Passmethecrisps · 25/11/2012 22:38

nervous I am so sorry about your DH's arms! What a nightmare. I am glad to hear you have plenty of support.

When I was still expressing my left boob was a machine. My right boob was pretty poor in comparison. When I tried to feed wee P she massively preferred the left - she would get very grumpy when I tried to put her on the right. I have no idea what the difference was.

I am not convinced that what they are fed makes any difference to sleeping patterns personally. Wee P's sleep patterns were identical when she was being fed EBM as now being formula fed.

DH thinking about going back to work tomorrow. Bit scared at the thought but I am sure us girls will be fine

PetiteRaleuse · 25/11/2012 22:46

Those of you who had c sections, how are your abs? 5 weeks on and my abs above the scar are really hurting, as if I'd been doing sit ups. I haven't. But I can't damage them from day to day life can I at this stage?

LO has been feeding for hours. Hope this means she'llhave a decent sleep.

Hope you all get a good night too..

blonderthanred · 25/11/2012 22:56

Oh VQ I almost forgot to wish J a happy 1-month birthday!

Petite my tummy muscles (such as they were) are still not quite up to speed, if I use them to sit up from lying when holding the baby I can really feel it. I tried the sling the other day but it felt like I'd pulled them a bit the next day. I am just taking care and trying to do things slowly. It must be much harder with a toddler as well though, hats off to anyone managing that.

Passmethecrisps · 25/11/2012 23:09

What are people's thoughts about their LO's sleeping in swings and bouncers? We had been putting wee P in her swing for day sleeps but 3 hours lying scrunched seems too much. What do others think?

Also, I was planning to drive to see my aunty this week. It is a 4 hour drive pretty much. What are people's thoughts on managing that journey with LO? Sadly my aunty is dying of cancer - in any other circumstance I actually wouldn't consider making that journey.

Chunkychicken · 25/11/2012 23:30

Nervous that's horrendous, so sorry about your DH. Glad you have support from your Mums.

pass I think the advice is that baby shouldn't be in a car seat or similar position for more than 2hrs. Can you put her in her Moses basket/crib/similar downstairs for naps, so she can lie flat?

Passmethecrisps · 25/11/2012 23:35

Absolutely chunky. We have a Moses basket and the carry cot from the pram for her to sleep in. I actually asked the midwife last week and she said it was fine because it was "pretty flat". I wasn't convinced anyway so I think we will stick to flat sleep places. The thing is she sleeps for pretty much 3 hours every time - if her naps were shorter she would be not so bad.

Thechick · 26/11/2012 01:05

Hello all.
I'm finding it very difficult to catch up at the mo. I think I'm on page 10, so quite a lot of pages back. Hope everyone is okay. babychick was 7wks yesterday. The weeks are just flying past at the mo, it's really quite scary.

Not sure if anyone has heard of TKMax, I've just discovered them and was in there yesterday. I picked up a gro bag for £14 4 Aden &Anais 120x120 swaddles and an Aden &Anais sleeping bag for less than half price.
First feed of the night. My back is killing me.

kirrinIsland · 26/11/2012 01:35

Sonsorry about you DH nervous What a horrible thing to happen. Glad you've got some help though.

DD1 slept 12-6 ish from about 4 months, then went backwards at about 8 months and didn't sleep through again until 14 months! I'm hoping I'm due a sleeper this time round!

N has her sister's cough and cold :( been at the OOH docs today just to check her over, as her breathing was a bit rapid, hut she seems ok so we've just got to keep an eye on her.

katkit1 · 26/11/2012 05:07

Just starting to experience intense night time sweats - I wake up roasting then instantly freezing, makes me feel like the bedroom is very cold but I'm guessing it's fine.

GTbaby · 26/11/2012 05:20

Not having a good night Sad. LO keeps waking. Hope he now settles for a while. Tempted to give a feed now so he won't wake again in a hour. But over feeding will mk his colic worse. Just want to sleep.
He is very wriggly n won't settle. Dummy not dong much good. Sad

i've not started timing things yet i just know i'm awake on and off from 9pm - 7am, i must sleep in between i just don't when - baby seems to feed every hour, ish i think. does anyone else have a boy and have what seems to be a pee pee back but a dry nappy. i've had to do a full outfit change but couldn't work out how the nappy remained dry - is he sweating instead - the oufit was wringing.

PetiteRaleuse · 26/11/2012 06:32

Up once for 45 minutes during the night. Last evening's feedathon was worth it.

Dixiebell · 26/11/2012 07:27

katkit, I used to have that with DS when he was tiny. I worried it was sweat too but they don't really sweat at that age, I think the pee just sort of trickles backwards without touching the nappy. Many times I couldn't work out why he was unsettled till I picked him up and found him drenched down his back.

DesperateHousewife21 · 26/11/2012 07:57

pass dd sleeps in her swing for nap in the day but then it's only 1.5-2 hours. She sometimes sleeps in her mode basket but her nap is really short in there she just doesn't like lying flat.

Last night was shit, ds was overtired so kept waking up. Dd had trapped wind so kept grunting.
Dh got fed up at 3am and slept on the sofa so I had ds one side and dd the other so got no sleep.

Passmethecrisps · 26/11/2012 08:12

Yup, I think wee P snoozes too long for the swing to be a very good kip place. I wouldn't like to sleep in a chair for that long so I suppose why should she be any different?

Had an amazing feed at 1am - up, fed and back in basket within half an hour. I thought the key was that I was already awake so pre-empted her wee grunts and had bottle warmed and ready before she was awake. Tried it again for her 4am feed but no joy. I woke with a start at 6am to discover a totally knackered DH in the nursery with P who was only just starting to settle after 2 hours. We did think that she might sleep for a while but she was awake again an hour and a half later. Ach well - not bad in the grand scheme of things.

horseylady · 26/11/2012 08:35

After feeling ill last night, ds decided at 3am to be wide awake and playing!! Fed him, burped him, changed him. Still cried so decided he just wanted cuddles. At 5 he finally went to sleep and woke at 6 chattering again.

Fed him at 7, he's now lying very contentedly on me. About to change him, go to the farm, meet the gas man again then we need to do food shopping, tidy the house, walk the dogs and do the horses again. I still feel ill so might try to sleep if ds decides to. He just tends to sleep for 45 minutes during the day now!!
