A nice new thread for us all - I know someone mentioned it a few days ago Grin

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Diege · 21/04/2006 16:24

LOL NOVA!! We were the same at bank this morning Grin; not often the scrraming works in your favour Smile. Good weight!!!

Diege · 21/04/2006 16:24

meant 'screaming'!!

BEKsmum · 21/04/2006 16:53

Afternoon girls,

Sorry to hear that so many of the LO's are poorly, hope the weekend makes them all feel better or gives all you lovely mummies a break.

Tex, what a nightmare for you, hope you manage to find a milk Rosie can tolerate soon, it must be really hard for you at the moment. If you want to bring Toby over to play at any time to give you a break just yell, we're around most of the time!

GO lol at you and the trampoline comments I'm pretty sure I'm too heavy to go on it but Ben loves it and has been out bouncing every morning before breakfast so far!

Karma hope dp's op went ok and that his snoring is improved!

Have been pretty busy since Tuesday trying to find clothes for Thomas's Naming Ceremony next week. It was virtually impossible to find anything smart for the boys but Ben finally chose a shirt and tie from M&S - he won't take the tie off at the moment Smile
I've got a linen trouser, shirt and waistcoat for Thomas which is really cute, so now it's just me that's going to look a wreck!!!

Have just seen an advert for a part time evening & weekend job but the hours are 4:30pm till 8:30pm so would need a childminder until dh got home so not sure if it's financially worth it as I have to get two looked after. Can I be nosey and ask what you guys are paying for CM's as the salary is only £5.41 per hour plus anti social hours and weekend allowance. Opinions please!!!

Right hope everyone has a great weekend if I don't manage to get back on again Beks

babyonboard · 21/04/2006 17:02

beksmum - the one we want to get charges £6.70 per hour, but she is fab, she used to childmind for my friend in yorkshire.

tbh i could never earn enough for it to be finacially viable for me to return to work at the moment, so will probably be retraining once O is 1 or so..

bet you can't wait for the naming ceremony!little boys in ties are the cutest thing..lol

Diege · 21/04/2006 17:19

Hi BEKS!! Sure you will look lovely at the naming ceremony Smile, and HOW cute will the boys be Grin. The childminder we've just sorted out for a few hours after school is getting paid £10 for 3-6; pretty mean, but we were only paying the link club £8, and explained this, and she's happy with £10. Not typical though I would think!! Well, managed to turn that round to a me post Blush; just to add further now I've started, HV rang back and seems Libby is ok if she's taking something, even just a few ounces, so fine for now Smile.
So feeling happier Smile.

babyonboard · 21/04/2006 17:36

am i the only one who browses the pregnancy and childbirth boards and gets longing pangs!? allthe pre birth anxiety, scans etc..

so silly as there is no way we can have another baby yet...and i'm forgetting what a hellish pregnancyi had..lol

diege..sounds pretty reasonable for 'northern' prices.

our potential c.m used to charge £2 for each child per hour..hence she was attracted by the much better london rates..lol

novadandypowder · 21/04/2006 18:24

our CM gets £8 per hour or £100 for 12-24 hours, but this London rates so probably at the steep end.

I would like to add a belated apology to Londoner for the mis-understanding. I wouldn't like you to think that I had meant to upset you.

OP posts:
babyonboard · 21/04/2006 18:31

nova- hopefully it's nothing to worry about and londoner was just in a not so good mood when she saw the post.

we all know what a sunny character she is, and it is really sad if you were genuinly upset!

londoner - I have been wondering why you didn't comment at my comparison though!?

ChaCha · 21/04/2006 18:40

OH Golden, you do make me laugh! If only I had a pound for everytime I was compared to Liz Hurley...[sigh] Wink

Beks - Remember to post pics of the ceremony. Will look forward to seeing them. The kids across the back have a trampoline in their back garden, love catching sight of their little heads bouncing over the fence when at kitchen window.

BoB - Will go and have a look at your pic.

Diege - On money front - Well at least that's sorted. Mum's the word I think! Hopefully inhaler not needed to often. Asthma sucks.

Nova - Super weight. Have you posted any pics of her recently?

Z has been taking less milk over the last few days, maybe dropping a good few ounces of the norm. I've heard that this is normal when teething, he really doesn't seem interested in his bottles but on counting it's not a dramatic drop so not too concerned yet. Nappies are getting worse!!

AF is almost knocking at my door..groan.

Hoping you have a lovely weekend ladies.

Love x

ChaCha · 21/04/2006 18:46

BoB - Just seen your post. Let sleeping dogs lie, with Londoner quoting a misunderstanding and Nova's apology it's allll over!!! Grin We have all just had babies after all..geeeesh!
It's easy to misinterpret things when reading msgs and not face to face, someone else said this yesterday.
I should know, always get my knickers in a twist over text messages Blush

Right, really am off. Bob, will post my valued opinion asap. The Nov thread will be waiting with baited breath...hee heee!

goldenoldie · 21/04/2006 19:11

Nova - the screaming trick never works for me. All I get is dirty looks!

Your Nat is def. leading the way on weight. Did you slip her a bit of Jen's cake! What percentile is she on?

I'm really looking forward to a good old chin-wag, without babies. Any chance of meeting up somewhere a bit quieter?

Don't fancy pushing my way through hordes of people/tourists in Soho to get a cramped table in a busy/noisy resturant where I can't hear myself speak, let alone everyone else?

Do they have a branch in the city? I know all the Pizza Express/Strada places/prob. all resturants in the city are dead in the evenings during the week.

Beks - looking forward to seeing the pics from the naming ceremony.

Jen - how did nanny interview go?

browniechick · 21/04/2006 19:41

Hi All, thanks for all your supportive comments about T and the nursery. He was absolutely fine - infact when I got there, he was asleep!! Smile The handover sheet they gave me (which they do at the end of every session, with a bit for us to fill in about his night at home, to aid communication between parents and staff) said that he had been a really happy boy, and had loved playing with the baby gym! The also said he had been very chatty Smile, just like his MummyGrinGrin
BoB, have looked at the picture and LOVE the hair do - would defo say go for it.
I didn't get the ironing done! made a start though, cleaned the bathroom and came on here - not bad in an hour and a half!

Hope all poorly babes get better, and that everyone has a good weekend.

B&T

Rodeo · 21/04/2006 20:19

Hi,

Yes def go for the fringe Bob - it really suits you!

Beks, aw, Ben chose his own shirt & tie? That's lovely - sure you'll look great too :) And you've not been tempted with the trampoline? I went on last year, about 3 months pg (I really shouldn't have but kind of forgot I was pg Blush) and weed whilst bouncing! How embarrassing! Was with girlfriends so didn't matter - they thought it was hilarious - until they did the same, haha, that's down to being slack with pelvic floor exercises Grin

Diege, glad your dd didn't need it for long, I'm sure it will be the same for us, and she hates it! Did the girls like their letters? Hope Scarlett or Libby didn't choke on the hazards, sorry again! Oh, meant to say, watched The Apprentice the other night - it's brill! Syed is soooooo awful!! Looking forward to next weeks now!

'Skiving' work tonight, well, not really, just want to be at home with the baby, so think we're having an Indian for tea, yum! Also means I get to watch Gardeners World which I love! Looking forward to getting back to normal next week after the hols :)

BEKsmum · 21/04/2006 20:24

Thanks for the info girls, doesn't really seem worth it does it, as if those rates are per child I'll only be earning a couple of quid an hour Sad although a few hours away may help my sanity - but then what would the world be like if I looked it as a sane rational human being - heaven forbid Grin

Another quick poll for you as I'm not sure what to do - I have asked one of my friends to be "godparent" to Thomas next week but when I let her know the date of the ceremony she said she had to work as she's a community nurse. She said she'd get back to me and let me know if she could swap shifts but I haven't heard from her - I feel I'll be backing her into a corner if I call her about it - what do you guys think?

I also asked guests to RSVP but quite a few haven't would it be rude for me to chase them this week so I know how many I'm catering for? Opinions please!

Right I'm off to watch the telly as I'm whacked this week for some reason. Have a good weekend all and I'll log on for opinions later Beks

GarfieldsGirl · 21/04/2006 20:54

Evening everyoneSmile

Still living in a bombsite, will be finished on Monday tho, and I'll probably have my heating on for the next week just for the novelty!

Went to a new baby shop here today to have a nose, I walked in and suddenly wished I hadn't.I received looks of utter contempt from the staff when I walked in. There I am with my Graco travelsystem from Argos, surrounded by really trendy nifty looking things - Stoppe/spokke/stokke? something like that, £699 ouch Shock, also lots of buggaboos? Saw one the other day, looks back breaking the pram bits so low! And I have to say £25 for a changing mat!!!!!{shock] Definately won't be going there again!

Nova - thanks for the tips re sweet potato and melon.

Very Envy of all of you who are able to go to Surestart. I'm not entitled to any of it because Surestart in Pompey is only for people who live on council estates.

BoB - I feel the same, am getting very broody, but I don't want 3 LO's so I'd have to have another 1 or 2 after that! Am I mad?

ChaCha/Tessas - have you figured out the invite thing yet - would really love to see some photos.

Brownie - Glad Thomas was happy at nursery. It must be such a weight off your mind knowiung that he's happy and well cared for. Sems like you made an excellent choice.

I hope all the poorly LOs all soon return to their usual happy selves. Smile

goldenoldie · 21/04/2006 20:59

Beks - I would chase. Afterall, you need to know how many to cater for.

Re: godparent - bit rude of her not to get back to you? Maybe you should give her an easy way to decline the offer gracefully without losing face?

GG - Surestart is for 'deprived' communities here too, but I just barge in and point out that I am a tax payer. Afterall - what can they do - throw me and the DTs out!

GarfieldsGirl · 21/04/2006 21:00

BEKs - If it was me I would chase up replies, esp. your friend who you want to be 'godparent'. They'll all understand that you need to know how many there will be, and I'm sure your friend won't feel like she's being backed into a coirner.

GarfieldsGirl · 21/04/2006 21:03

Hi Golden - think I may try that, their centres all look really good so will give it a go next week. Thanks Grin

JenJam · 21/04/2006 21:04

At last our babe is in bed. have been a bit Angry with DP tonight....he didn't get home until 8 pm and that really pees me off esp. on a friday because I want us to hang out, watch telly together etc. so going to keep this brief

GO - will have to call you to alk about the nanny, now not a good time after my rant to dp, i'll be going on for hours!!! on the one hand....but then on the other....etc etc,

evening drinks sounds lovely. ketners fine with me. or how about busabaieatthai. i love it there

right must go, talk more i hope over weekend

Btw. can i revise my earlier statement about anyone with 3+ children is amazing! anyone with 2 under 5 is amazing too!! beksmum, karma et al.
saw my friend with the 6lb 10 day old twins and their 21 month old little girl....now that will be a struggle, bull in china shop came to mind when the eldest got home from nursery....
p.s. did you read that article in Times2 about mothers being smarter. ha!

JenJam · 21/04/2006 21:06

sorry meant to say anyone with 2 not 2 under 5...karma your boy is similar age to GO'S eldest no? somewhere between 6 and 10?

really must go, just got a heavy SIGH now

browniechick · 21/04/2006 21:11

Hi, thanks GG - I feel I have definitely made the right choice. Smile
Beks - would definitely chase, it is just rude not to reply, and you need to know how many to cater for - after all they would all be miffed if there wasn't enough food to go round Wink
Would also chase godparent, I mean if she can't make it you will need to find an anlternative.Met a couple of the Mums from my PN group today, as it was my last Friday - before going back to work next week! (as you know we've been meeting on a Friday afternoon for a few months now) - anyway, have agreed to meet up with a few of them on a Monday in a few weeks, so will still be able to keep in contact with them.
GG - Shock at hoity toity staff looking down their nose at you - I would go in there on a regular basis just to "p" them off!!! but then I can be quite evil! Gather a few Mumsy mates, and all go in!!!! (oh sorry, I am just getting carried away now!!!!)

B&T

JenJam · 21/04/2006 21:17

beksmum yes i would chase up rsvps - if i was invited i would feel a bit ashamed at my rudeness if you'd given me plenty of notice and i had to be chased up, so don't you worry about whether you are bein rude chasing people...and am sure godparent will understand; is she a good friend? i assume so.

really must go as since being on the internet DP has been out and bought some soup to feed me - my tooth still hurts (apparently i've 'fractured' a molar ...and now need a crown but have to wait until next fri)

JenJam · 21/04/2006 21:19

hi brownie; i'm glad to hear you feel happy with your chosen nursery. must be a great relief!

Diege · 21/04/2006 22:31

Hi Smile. Totally shattered tonight, so just a very quick one before turning in.
RODEO: thanks so much for the letters Grin; the girls were thrilled, and Jasmine has gone to sleep with the keyring under her pillow. Scarlett is also excited to have a picture of Joe, and wants to send him a fruit shoot in her next letter GrinWas happy to keep the jewel and figure on letter for now, so they will be quite safe! Hope you enjoyed your curry, mmmm Smile. Here's to no projectile vomits tonight!
Lol GG at pram shop Grin; yes, def. go in again and wind them up Grin.
Poor you and the toothache JENJAM [sad; it's been brewing a few days hasn't? Hey, hope it's not related to your yummie cakes Grin.
BEKS: yes, agree woth everyone else; chase them up, you'll feel so much better when it's done!
BROWNIE: ahhh, sounds a wonderful nursery, you are lucky. Bet you feel heaps better about work now Smile. My lot are mucking me about again re: flexible application; have changed Mon meeting to Friday,my first day back, just to add to the anxiety Sad. Def.not mentioning the overpayment to them now Grin
Right, sleeeepppp!!!

BEKsmum · 22/04/2006 10:54

Thanks girls, sound advice as always Smile

GO I was thinking that, any suggestions on how to let her off gracefully - I've known her 28 years!!!

Off to a mini football party with Ben & his little buddy this morning, taking Thomas along too - I must be mad.

Jen sorry to hear about the toothache made me wince just thinking about it, I'm a complete baby when it comes to going to the dentist & I've got to go on Wednesday so we can moan together next week Grin Hope the soup was ok last night.

Brownine glad Thomas was happy at the nursery you must be so relieved, well done for not phoning htem to check on him it must have been very tempting.

Hope all the little ones are feeling a bit better today & that their dads are helping out this morning.

Diege your company sound like they are messing you about, hope you give them hell on Friday.

Right best go as still in my pj's and I've got to leave by 11:15 = eek!

Have a good day all and I hope the weather is good where you are as it's lovely and sunny here. Beks
