Shiny new thread: we forgot to discuss the title this time!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Oh good grief BJR! You dread to think what would have happened if he were wildly allergic to an ingredient, rather than intollerant- like if they'd been feeding him peanut butter on toast for breakfast with a nut allergy. Your poor little man, no wonder he's been unhappy.
I would have words, but I know the fear, you don't want to 'get on the wrong side of' someone who looks after your precious DC all day.
And do rant, better than feeling guilty for something that is NOT your fault.

If I weren't having a curry Oi I would be madly jealous of your steak and Malbec, sounds fab!

Nursery said DS had a lovely laugh today- his default settings are either po-faced or laughing madly. Me going 'meep meep' is a favourite, and he's just gotten the hang of enjoying (iyswim) 'this little piggy went to market', which I love doing on him. Belly farts are of course the classic Grin No waving or clapping here though.
Poor kid, the cold has made his nose so red, when DP did the snot mining this morning he cleared his nose but it took a scab with it and made his nose bleed. That's twice this week DP has had DS bleed on him Confused

And O M G LMF, I love a good clear out, but black bin liners are as good as I get... a skip?! What I wouldn't give for a skip to clear out the masses of shite DP has hoarded

Right, DP is commandering my laptop to watch the footie.

I should leave the bastard (TM MN) Grin

seven77 · 03/10/2012 21:21

BJR I'd be having more than stern words, the poor little mite. DD is lactose intolerant, if she has it she screams in pain, I'd be bloody livid Angry.

Sorry to hear about sky's asthma DSM.

Things have taken a turn for the worse re my parents. They've already had an extension of 3 weeks, the developers want to complete on Friday or they'll lose the house. The other solicitors from our sale have asked another load of questions, so still no sign of a completion date and no chance of it being done by Friday. They've been saying all along they know it isn't our fault, though my mums attitude today implies it clearly is our fault, especially when I refused to "phone the solicitor and demand they exchange contracts tomorrow" Hmm

Aethelfleda · 03/10/2012 21:39

Oh no seven, what a bugger. These things do happen in the unpredictable world of arsing house purchases, you're just going to have to let Mum whinge I'm afraid. Sympathy in buckets.

lmf: wow, a skip, that's seriously hardcore dejunking! Hope your mood's a bit steadier now BTW.

BJR I would be seriously unimpressed with the nursery.
Rather than ranting can you look into an alternative provider and then just switch away from the problems to someone you trust better?

oi, japanese sounds great... Dinner at yours, then?

xiao, I am disgusted that you dare to comment on accent threads in such a bigotted manner. Wash out your mouth with soap and water, young lady, and know your place in future...damned colonials... Grin

What a shit day at work got home for DS 5.30 thankfully the cm gave him his dinner before he got home so we had a lovely play for a bit and then he went to bed at 7:30 I immediately started working again and have only just finished..... Absolutely no way I could ever work three days a week. If it hadnt been for the fact that I'm not working tomorrow I wouldnt have had to work tonight going to bed very early.

NorthernChinchilla · 03/10/2012 21:53

Wow figgy, that is a bit much. You sound like you're not only coping without DP, but that you and figgyboy are having a grand time in general.

Let us know how you get on BJR, but looking for another nursery has to be one of the options...easier said than done I know.

I'll be sleeping in DS's room tonight, so that'll be a 4am wake up for me then...

OiMissus · 03/10/2012 22:00

Yeeeeks -seven that sounds rough. At the same time, as someone said earlier, he who shouts loudest gets results, so if your prices are fixed with your solicitor, stop being the nice guy and start sounding mean!!! Shout, and get them pushing on your behalf.
bjr I'd be f*ing furious if BOi's nursery ignored an intolerance. At the same time, I'm really not sure that if I was an arsehole they'd take it out on my kid. So I'm not sure if that would be my fear.
BOi is infamous for his lack of sleep st nursery. They'll spend over 30 mins trying to get him to sleep, and then he'll sleep for 25 mins. C'est la vie.
He wakes. If you're not there immediately to placate him, and shush Him back to sleep, he'll wake and that's it.
Aw! northern Meep meep!
When DH and I worked in the same office, I used to get annoyed if he knocked on my open door. (It's open ffs, come in!) So he would stand there and road-runner-style "meep meep" instead. Grin

Bugger. I forgot the doggy bag. Blush

OiMissus · 03/10/2012 22:09

-lmf, I meant to ask, how're you doing? I hope the skip is helping you get in control.
dsm welcome back to the world of
work.
Tis time to sleep, one more sleep away. I can handle BOi sleeping in our room, in our bed.i can handle it.
DH got his haircut again today. Haircut no. 3. I've missed every one of them.
No matter. Smile I'm back with my boys tomorrow night. Grin

Morning!

OP posts:
Figgygal · 04/10/2012 09:42

Day off work today covering DHs day off with figgyboy trying to do quick tidy before hv comes round for 9mo check this afternoon then antenatal mums and babies coming round. I'm putting bets on him being on 98th centile but wouldn't be surprised of he'd jumped off charts altogether. I'll let u know if I have officially the biggest baby on the thread later

Have a nice day and hope u get home to boi soon oi

Xiaoxiong · 04/10/2012 09:59

aethel I'm actually fascinated to see what accent DS ends up with, whether he'll pick up anything from me at all. I actually don't want him to have the phony transatlantic accent that many Americans seem to mimic as soon as they step off the plane. I'm quite happy that when I open my mouth people think "oh she's American" rather than being able to make any assumptions about my social background. There's an American trainee here in my department who has been in London for 6 months and sounds like Natalie Portman in V for Vendetta, aka the worst fake English accent in the woooooorld.

figgy you're a trooper! I'm quite glad I told the partners that on my two days at home I'm not going to check email at all and would only respond to phone calls in an absolute emergency, but we'll see if I manage to keep those two days free from work.

BJR I'm sorry the nursery is being so shit and such a bummer to feel like you can't trust them to do the right thing with your child. They'd better be grovelling!

Oi your DS has had three haircuts already!? That's amazing! Also, send your son to DH's school - the teachers all speak beautifully, they all sound just like Rowley Birkin QC!

Northern sorry if I missed it but why are you sleeping in DS's room? I hope you managed to get some rest....

Aethelfleda · 04/10/2012 12:49

Hee hee xiao, I was only teasing! You have a great accent and I'm sure DS will pick up little bits of it. My mother was from East Anglia and even now my speech has little bits of Norfolk peppered in it if you know where to look. Some people do chamelionic speech, it's very common to mirror those you are with (sometimes intentionally and sometimes not).

I haven't been near the HVs for months so have no idea where DS is on centiles now. He's over 20 lb cos we stood on the scales together, but we're still rearfacing until the size 0 seat becomes too small (imminent) then it's drag out the isofix seat from DD2 (and hope it still works!)

Today is a washingfest before more viewings one Fri one Sat. Bored now!

OP posts:
Xiaoxiong · 04/10/2012 14:31

aethel I will have to look out for your Norfolk roots next time we meet up Smile my DMum (the crazy one) has actually suggested I find some sort of Henry Higgins elocution teacher so I can...get this...become PM. As in Prime Minister. Because obviously the only thing currently standing in my way is my American accent - and the fact that I don't yet have a british passport is a mere inconvenience!

Quite envy your washing actually, I have precisely zero to do today as all the partners are in NY for their annual meeting. My timesheets will be 99% fantasy today! (9-10 - read this thread, 10-10.30 worry about DS and trying to think about symptoms, 11.30 - 12 post on food boards, 11-12 nap with head on desk, 12-2 three martini lunch...)

Figgygal · 04/10/2012 14:37

He's 26lb 2oz Blush which is 99th centile hey someone has to be I guess. Glad he hadnt shot off the charts that would be embarrassing .......do I get my threads biggest baby award now? Grin

We have been referred to an optometrist as dh had a squint when a child DS has no sign of one but they do a check if a close family history. He's now playing with his free toothpaste clearly more exciting than his free books

OiMissus · 04/10/2012 14:51

Hurrah for giant baby figgy! Good lad!
All packed up now, getting the taxi to the airport in 10 mins. Yippee!!!
I should be home by 7:30pm. Grin

LittleMissFlustered · 04/10/2012 16:33

Anyone got a nice hard desk I can bang my head against?

Been to doctors, chasing in circles trying to get some help for Octoboy. The doctor has admitted there's a wheeze. He's read that he's been in and out of hospital and he has noted that tere is a family history if chest problems. He is giving salbutamol for a whole 24 hours, no more, as he's not convinced that there's anything wrong:(

Figgygal · 04/10/2012 17:41

Lo is asleep he had only had 20 minutes since 9 o'clock this morning and I possibly foolishly have put him down for quick nap to see him thru to bedtime am going to have to wake him up or will get no time to self later.

Antenatal babies just left bday parties a being arranged very very scary

Aethelfleda · 04/10/2012 17:44

You a-what now lmf? that sounds precisely no fun.

OP posts:
MissRee · 04/10/2012 18:03

That's pants LMF Sad makes you wonder what will actually make the nobber GP sit up and take notice! Can you see a different GP for a second opinion? Failing that, do some research and go armed with some kind of evidence to support what you feel the course of treatment should be?

We have Freya's TT and LT appointment with the consultant tomorrow. Am starting to doubt my reasons for getting the referral. Obvs. it doesn't affect her feeding now she's FF but is being concerned about her speech and possible dental problems enough? Sad

Aethelfleda · 04/10/2012 18:35

Here you go lmf:

This link is American, but apart from the bobbins involving "tasty syrups for toddlers" (these are out of favour in the UK, as are home nebulisers) the info is pretty sound. Yank Link

And this leaflet from Cambridge suggests Salbutamol alone is a valid treatment option during episodes....but in the viral wheeze kiddies, rather than "true" asthmatics...

viral wheeze link

Hope Octoboy responds well anyway. Grotty chests are the pits.

OP posts:
Aethelfleda · 04/10/2012 18:39

And misree don't doubt your legitemacy of referral. If it's all fine they will be reassuring but you can't tell til you get there. Good luck!

Extra viewing booked for tomorrow, so that's three in next 2 days. Must be motivated to tidy later: good vibes please!!!

OP posts:
NorthernChinchilla · 04/10/2012 20:02

It will be interesting Xiao; my step Mum is German, has perfect but slightly accented English, Dad has no accent at all...but for the first few years of her (speaking) life my little sister had an Essex accent as her CM was from there! It was most hilarious, she sounded nothing like either parent!

With DS, we kept the double bed in his room- was previously the spare room- and I co slept with him in there for the first five months, then DP just slept in there when he was on his four/five months' leave. Now we tend to sleep in there if DS is ill, because we're on the floor above in the attic, it's a pain to keep schlepping up and down.

Snot goblin woke at 11pm, wanting to play, 2.30 am and 4am last night Sad. Bloody, dratted cold, he's never had a problem with night waking before this, but at least we know what's causing it. His little nose is still bleeding round the edges when the snot comes away...

I do that 'mirroring' of speech aethel and really have to catch myself, it's so embarrassing. Glad to see you've crawled out from under the rock for a cuddle with DS Grin

I am sooooo Envy Envy Envy of BOi's three!! haircuts. DS isn't going to need one for years, literally years. I saw a little boy younger than DS today with wonderful hair and actually thought 'oh well, at least we're saving on haircuts'.

Congratulations! And as long as he's on the chart, and in proportion(ish) he's fine. DS isn't too far behind that, but figgyboy is definitely champ.

Hope the consultant appointment goes well MissRee, and don't feel you have to justify it. You're getting your baby's condition checked out, it's normal and good parenting to do it! And if the doctor were rude about it (not that they will be at all) then it's a cause for a complaint, not a reason you shouldn't have taken her.

Need to go and have a LMF-styleee clear up here....

jigglebum · 04/10/2012 20:29

Evening everyone - just quickly skim read to try and catch up on some of your news. Sounds like lots of ill babies and Freya has been ill on and off for the last month too - it has been hard work! We had teething and have 2 teeth now, we have cough/colds, dodgy tummy, bad nappy rash etc. Sleep has been very erratic for well over a month now - though fingers crossed the last 2 nights have been back to sleeping through. Going to work after 4 hours sleep is not great and can't help but feel resentful of DH as I do all the get ups, even on the 2 days I work and weekends.

She is quite an expert crawler now and is starting to pull up on things. She claps lots and smiles readily. She is happy and smiley most of the time but one bloody determined madam at times too. I think she is already beginning to understanding either the word or the tone of voice of "no freya"!

Ds is settling in well to school and it is easier not having them both at home all day. I miss his company though.

DH and I are not getting on at all - I feel resentful about how little he does (eg in the mornings I do everything, getting me, ds and freya out the door at 830 - he gets up at 745 and just gets himself out the door, even on my work days) We cannot seem to resolve these issues and I have given up trying - so we are just coexisting in the same house, not really communicating and still sleeping in separate rooms - tbh, day to day life is easier in some ways, I can just get on and do things and even if freya wakes me at night at least I dont have to listen to his snoring and tossing and turning. Long term - I dont know what the solution is - I know we need to sit and talk but frankly I cant be bothered and it would have to be me who tries to sort it out.
Rant again - sorry.

OiMissus · 04/10/2012 20:32

An home! But BOi was already asleep. Sad he looks so grown up with his short hair. DH took him to a sensory play place and they tried to charge him the admittance fee for babies over 1 yr.
Am all achey. I did a load of stomach crunches at the gym yesterday, forgetting about the cs. I forgot it might be a shock to the system. Grin
Good luck with the referrals missree - you're definitely right to get it checked out.
Good luck with the viewings aethel, fingers crossed you'll find the house of your dreams soon.
Rightio, time to go and gaze at my BOi again! Grin

Figgygal · 04/10/2012 20:33

My back is gone ouch ouch!!

Figgyboy is 90something centile for height too am thinking am going to drop his AM bottle over the next week as he's still on 23 oz and has yoghurt/cheese on top. What constitutes a bottle alternative "snack"?

OiMissus · 04/10/2012 20:36

jiggle sorry to hear things aren't going well with your DH. I understand how you can't be arsed. Hopefully he'll get off his arse and stop being an arse in time to turn it around.
In summary: what an arse!
Good luck. (((Hugs)))
