Hi all,
Just a flying visit from me. I hope all the little issues are starting to clear up and everyone is feeling a bit happier.

DD has an umbilical hernia, it is not giving her any trouble and should settle in time but it make a horrid squishy noise since the nurse prodded it! Am seeing GP on Tue for her immunisations so will get them to check it again.

Also, I fell down the stairs on Monday and have really hurt my foot, really difficult to walk at the min which makes looking after DD so much harder.

Ho hum, other then that...all is well.
x

Flamesparrow · 15/03/2006 10:56

Stupid thrush locum!

Reflux... My friend's youngest DD & DS had reflux - pretty much what the others said on that thread... It is normal projectile vomiting, or just a lot (not just the extra milk that they've decided they didn't want after all). Often it isn't just straight after the feed, but can be quite a bit later if they are moved too fast. The pain all sounds the same. Swaddling often helps as it keeps them calmer as they have the attack. Again, write everything down and go to your gp armed with your facts and worries (if you don't get on with your hv then skip that stage).

Long long night here... Little man cried oodles - refused to settle himself, then DD decided to join in!!! We had me generally feeding or winding and DH sorting DD. Very tired today... burst into tears when DH got up Blush.

Glad you got the swing Ixel - great invention!!!!!!!!!!!!! Grin

cuffyj1 · 15/03/2006 11:23

Took ds to docs we saw a locum too hotmama but he was really good and listened to everything we said unlike the usual gp. We explained all his symptoms and he's prescribed infant gaviscon to see if it helps. He hasn't said it is reflux tho.

Flamesparrow · 15/03/2006 12:40

Hopefully the gaviscon will help :)

I forgot to say yesterday.. the parents outside preschool were a big relief - its not the best of areas, and when I was taking DD to toddler group at the school the mums were very scary ladies ("ladies" is pushing it... a lot Wink) - I was scared what the preschool would be like, but they all looked pretty much up together and normal. Grin I hated it at toddlers... felt like I was being a snob because I didn't leave my child halfway through the session to go outside to smoke! It was 2 hours!!! Can they really not go 2 hours without smoking?!?!?! Angry

Frizbe · 15/03/2006 12:42

cuffy hope it works then! Smile I guess they're reluctant to say in case they get it wrong??

Hotmama glad thrush gettin sorted Shock at how bad locum was tho!

Have had mw round am, still not discharging us tho as dd not back upto birth weight, but she's on her way so mw not worried, said she's just saving the health vis more work, as they're both snowed under!!

MrsDoolittle · 15/03/2006 13:58

Hi Ladies. How are you all? I think this could be my first post on this thread.
I have to say that I really haven't been doing much MNing in the last month - DS will be 5 weeks on Saturday!!! Shock Shock He's not being easy atall. I think I'm fairly laid back, if not, completely shattered. He seems to do everything opposite to dd and so confusing me completely.

I hope you are all doing okay Smile

MrsDoolittle · 15/03/2006 14:05

I've been silly really. I think I have missed the support of you girls over the last month. It's been a bit hellish really but nothing particularly different to anyone else here. Coping with the toddler has been harder than I expected eventhough she goes to nursery 3 times a week. She still needs my attention in the morning and the evening but it's the morning which is hardest when I've been awake most of the night.

Flamesparrow · 15/03/2006 14:11

I've been wondering where you were!!!!!!!!! >

MrsDoolittle · 15/03/2006 14:29

Hiya Flame Smile Smile

ellenrose · 15/03/2006 14:30

tictac - ds2 had a hernia and we were advised that they normally go back in by the time they are two and sure enough - it did. Sometimes it looked worse than others but generally not too bad and the HV checked it during the check-ups as they got more spaced out just to keep an eye on it.

Chloe55 · 15/03/2006 15:46

Hi, I'm back - why do they wake up just as you are starting to do something Grin

As I was saying, no reflux experience Cuffy but it seems your GP was a bit of help to you anyway so I hope things improve.

Can I ask for those babies that are on formula - how much are they taking at one time and how long do they go between feeds (also how much do they weigh) I'm guessing ds is over 12lbs now as he was 11lbs 3 over a week ago and he generally takes about 5oz, sometimes though he will have 7oz and other times I struggle to get 4oz down him - he goes about 3 hours between feeds at the moment - does all this sound a normal amount?

JuA · 15/03/2006 16:04

Chloe - that was just the question I was coming on to ask :)
I make up 5oz bottles and they generally take about 4 - although I only make a 4oz bottle for the middle of the night - I didn't want to increase that one as I want to encourage them to drop it in a few weeks! Sometimes they take less than 4oz but I try to make sure they both have at least 3 otherwise they tend to get out of synch.
They are feeding every 3.5hours on average but longer over night - - they have 6 feeds in 24 hours.
Don't know how much they weigh as haven't been to baby clinic yet Shock but will know on Friday as am taking them for their 6 week check.

TicTac · 15/03/2006 16:22

Chloe/ Jua

DD weighs 8.2. I make 4 ounces and she takes anything from 2 to the 4. she goes 3 hours in the day and 4 to 5 hours through the night. I also BF though (especially in morning and night)

10 pound is meant to be the weight where a baby can take more and therefore last longer though.

4blue1pink · 15/03/2006 17:18

Hi girls !

Jasnem - Boy ! is four weeks yesterday and still not named - people are so annoying and seem to have a preoccupation with it. We WILL give ours a name but at the moment after coping with 5 kids its not top priority ( and we cannot agree!!)

Hotmama...bloody thrush !! I told hv that i thought he had it in his chops and she looked and said No just milk .
A week later dh ( who is a vet!) said 'that iS thrush ' so i rang up and they begrudgingly gave drops. Today i take him to be weighted and show a different hv and she says ' if you dont treat even symptomless boobs the tongue will keep getting it' So now i have cream and drops ( which he hates!)

Any one elses bf baby have eggy poo? My boys reeks and i just dont rememeber it with the others?

MrsDoolittle · 15/03/2006 17:32

4b1p - Not eggy poo but horrifc farts - awful!!! ever since he was born. Poos smell of flowers in comparison (just milky really!).
The suggestion has been made that he could be fermenting his milk rather than digesting it. The hv smelt it today and agreed it was foul but he's growing, despite his puking and stinky farts!!Smile

MrsDoolittle · 15/03/2006 17:33

And I didn't have it with dd. She was very easy in comparisin with this little chap.

Chloe55 · 15/03/2006 18:13

I'm guessing yours weigh less than my ds Jua so it seems our feeds are normal (other than my ds taking 7oz occassionally the greedy man Blush) I wish though he would go longer than 3 hours through the night, if 10lbs is the milestone to go by he is sticking to it Angry oh well, hopefully he will start going longer soon.

Ds poos stink horrid now he is on formula - I never really minded the bf poo smell.

Chloe55 · 15/03/2006 18:13

Isn't sticking to the milestone I should say!

ixel · 15/03/2006 18:24

I qite like the smell of ds2's poo, but I guess thats compared to the toddler poo of ds1, which is very very offensive!!

Ds2 has finally learnt to take some EBM from a bottle, but not alot, and its a right pain to express enough for 3 top ups, and feed , and get on with being parent of a toddler too. And dh is back on double shifts because his colleague is off on compassionate leave... arghhh... Having said that , bedtime was very calm tonight. It even began with the blissful phrase 'I'm finished my milk, I want to go to bed now'. Grin Now I'm dreading my first morning with the two of them alone, and ds1's new get up time of 6am.

Got a bf top off ebay, thought I'd be safe with a 14 as I have other tpos in the same make that size, but its too tight. Typical!

hotmama · 15/03/2006 19:01

Pooh is a very current topic! I've just put dd1 in her pyjama's, gave her milk just about to put her sleeping bag on and she had poohed! However, it was more like diarrohea - nice in a toddler - so I have had to change her vest etc.

Dd2's nappies smell like burnt caramel - I quite like the smell - dp thinks I'm weird - he could be right! Wink

Spoke to the HV this pm and she has rang the crappy locum and made him do me a prescription for cream for my nips - picking it up tomorrow - so hopefully will clear up.

BF question - have you found the duration of feeds reducing? Dd2 was feeding up to 30 mins per boob but now very rarely does more than 15 mins per boob - is she getting more efficient etc or is she not feeding enough? Never really sure what constitutes a feed - but she seems O.K. so I'm not going to worry.

Dd2 is very sleepy today - having to wake her for all her feeds - I do hope she isn't awake all night. Smile

Tabs · 15/03/2006 19:10

Back from the cranial osteopath. She said that there was a lot of compression in her head, so is expecting the treatment to work for her. Also some nerves affecting gut need treatment, which she reckons should reduce the amount of dirty nappies, as she reckons for every one to be dirty suggests that the gut isn't functioning at 100%.

Too early to say if there's any effect yet, but fingers crossed for a good night! Seeing her again on Monday for second treatment.

Good to see you over here MrsD - it is hard to find time to post these days, but it's great to get the support.

Now this may be a v basic question, but still on the subject of poo, how do you know if a baby has diarrohea (never can spell that), given that their poo is all runnyish to start with?!

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 15/03/2006 19:41

Tabs - no idea! I seem to recall from a friend's son that it went more snot-like. DD didn't have it until she was older (thankfully)

DS's poo smells sort of sweet - like DD's did though, so I assumed all newborn poo smelt that way! I remember hers had a different smell for poorly, and a different one again for teeth!

HV came at 2pm (for her 1pm appointment Angry) - DS is now 9lb 11 - 10oz in 6 days Shock. At least it answers my "is it a growth spurt or is my milk shoddy" question.

HM - Kinda found the length decreasing, but he's changed system. Before he would feed for 30-45 mins, but all from one side. Completely drain it, then be windy and eventually fall asleep. Now we're having about 15 mins to make me feel empty, being winded, and then having the whole other side for 15 mins... so its technically lasting the same length of time, but I think he's actually drinking twice as much (I'm still feeling as full as I ever was at the start of the feeds)! Still on about the 3 hour gap at the most, even with the mammoth feeding...

Pump is in the steriliser.. now I just need him to give me long enough between feeds to get some milk to express!!! DH is desperate for me to express some... he's been asking since day 2 - says its for my benefit, but I get the feeling he is feeling a bit left out.

Much more routine to the day today - he has been feeding, winding and being wakey for a little bit, and then being swaddled and sleeping for an hour or so, which has meant I could give DD some quality time (she looked sooooo pleased when I sat down to paint with her:)).

DH has gone out, so I think I will find some juice and biscuits, and enjoy a few minutes peace and quiet until next feed... although I hear snuffling now Angry - he seems to get to about 7pm and think that we switch to 2 hourly feeds until 11pm!

Flamesparrow · 15/03/2006 19:42

Meant to say to Tabs - good luck with your night tonight Grin Hoping it has a good sleep inducing effect.

Next chiro appointment is tomorrow... he's done much better - been feeding well off the bad side since Monday afternoon until first thing this morning.
