Not tried the cranial osteopathy, but we used the chiropratcor for DD's colic, and it worked sooo well... it was manipulating the base of her skull/top of spine so I assume that it works in a similar way to the osteopath.

Tabs · 13/03/2006 17:06

cuffy - dentinox is horrible stuff - struggled to get dd to swallow it! another one to try is colief, but it's quite expensive (£10 for v small bottle), so tends to be a later resort if the others don't work. it also has to be mixed with milk pre-feed.

have booked to see cranial osteopath on wedns, so will let you know if it makes any diff. screaming is still really getting to me, although at least it's more during day rather than just all night now, although had to co-sleep last night as was only way to get her quiet. just wish it didn't last for hours on end when she should be napping.

also no advice on breastfeeding tops - just pull up or down as required.

No bf tops here either..I have taken to wearing a cardigan over a t shirt which helps keep me covered (and warmer)as I'm not good at discrete feeding yet.

Dr gave me saline drops...horrible receptionist made me feel like a freak for not having named Boy yet. Apparently they have never had it happen before.Shock Don't believe them...

Ixel - what kind of sling have you got? Maybe he'd be happier in one of those strap to your front type things. DD2 only ever settled when held, or for short periods when in a bouncing swing (no good until they can support their head unaided). Wish someone had suggested osteopath etc when she was small - would have tried anything!

I've crashed :( Think my batteries have run out....

cuffyj1 · 13/03/2006 17:49

Tabs - he sleeps fine at night, last feed at 10 goes straight to sleep (usually) feeds again about 2am straight back to sleep (again usually) then sleeps til about 6am, but all day when he's not asleep he's screaming. (ok little exageration but it feels like he screams all day)

cuffyj1 · 13/03/2006 17:51

Quick question, How long after having baby do periods come back?

hotmama · 13/03/2006 20:25

Gosh been a lot of posting. I thought Dentenox was used for cradle cap - I'm sure that is what I use for dd2 who still has it at 17 months - just as well she has loads of hair! Think I must be thinking of other stuff! Wink

I think you can have periods straight away i.e. feasibly the next month if you are not breastfeeding - don't forget you can get pregnant before you have a period etc - does anyone want to be on the 'due in November thread' ? Shock

Myself and dd2 do have thrush so have stuff to get us sorted - hurrah.

You can get bf tops in the Blooming marvellous and JoJoMamanBebe catelogues and I think H&M do them as well - am thinking of getting some - but at home I just pull up my top and bare flesh! Wink

Going to have a bath so catch up later. Smile

Thell · 13/03/2006 21:42

Hi !
I'm popping in regularly to check how you're all getting on, but often don't have time to post aswell, so I guess I've become a lurker Grin

After much feeling like a crap mother, and being supportively told by DH that I should do what feels right, I have ordered a bedside cot from mothercare, so that we can do co-sleeping properly, and we will continue to cuddle our daughter when she cries and lull her to sleep in our arms or baby carrier, if that is what she needs.
I refuse to follow the health visitor's advice and leave her crying at only 2 weeks old. I am convinced that she will learn to soothe herself as she gets older, and we will encourage her to do so, but so far she seems unable to cope alone. i tried swaddling and comforting (in a confident and soothing manner, not anxious or cosseting), but she just got more and more distressed. Call me a soft touch, but i believe a well-loved child who feels safe will in the long run be more independent and confident.
Even my hitherto completely un-hippy dh agrees wholeheartedly with me!
There! i've said it, and feel much better for it!! Grin
i will be a hippy and proud of it.
Wink

Jasnem · 13/03/2006 21:53

Thell - Shock at your hv. Sounds to me like you are doing the most natural loving thing you can for your DD. How could it not be right to give her the comfort she needs?
I've always been more than just a little bit of a hippy, thoughGrin

Flamesparrow · 14/03/2006 07:43
Grin

I had a decent night's sleep!!!! He slept in his cot all night apart from needing feeding!!! Turns out that swaddling very very tight is all he needs. I realised (after a few hours getting distressed last night) that nothing helps his wind. All I ever do when he gets upset about it is hold him tight (or swaddle him) and I just have to wait for it to pass while he either whinges or screams... exhaustion kicked in at about 11pm last night, and I bound him tight, lay him in his carry cot, and tried a few bouts of wind of just letting him squirm alone - he settled himself just as fast as in my arms, if not faster... so I decided to try it in the main cot, and get some sleep - magic!!! Very little in the way of whinging, only one very short bout of yelling, and a much happier mummy today. He is in his cot now, but I think he's stirring.

Thell - I'm with you on the cuddling baby to soothe it normally too, so go for it! (Desperation led to the trial and error method this time Wink)

HM - Slight tangent - have you tried one of the nitty gritty nit combs on your DD's cradle cap? It worked wonders on DD!

Flamesparrow · 14/03/2006 07:46

Oooh - other news... DD starts pre-school this afternoon Shock

She's excited... I'm scared!

Flamesparrow · 14/03/2006 09:47

Argh! 9.49am... I have yelled at DD more times than I want to remember (with poor DS's head in sling at a bad height for screamy mummy... somehow he slept through it though!!!) - I have even banned lolly pops "until you're 50 or bald, whichever comes first" Blush

Feeling very very out of control and hating it... and this is with no deadline to get to the shops this morning, and nursery not til 1pm - god help me with proper school runs!!!

Helen38 · 14/03/2006 10:38

Hi, a flying visit not read posts yet hope all are doing well.

Trying to get into the swing of having 3 but not been on my own yet.

Have been on antibiotics all week as I had huge amounts of clots last tuesday which was really quite scarey, but seems to have settled.

Alfie is a little star but very hungry I guess partly due to his size, and tends to be asleep or eating most of the time. He looks so like ds1 did is hard to remember is a different baby sometimes Grin

I will try and get on to catch up soon MIL goes hme wed so might have more chance then.

Must go he is very heavy and arm hurts Wink

Helen38 · 14/03/2006 10:47

Hope all goes well with dd flame Grin

Jasnem · 14/03/2006 12:42

Hello,
Hope all goes well at nursery, FlameSmile

I got the sling right this morning - Boy slept in it while I made packed lunches. He would have been fine if DD1 didn't cuddle him awake when i'd just fed him.

Hope every one is ok, and managing with their new life... back tomorrow.

ellenrose · 14/03/2006 14:01

Hotmama - we used Dentenox on DS scalp as well - all made by the same company I think so I think we are safe Grin

Thell - hippy here too - go for it, you will feel much better Smile

Flame - LOL at the "bald or 50", hope things are going better for you Grin

Helen - with you on the hurting arms - how can these little bundles get soo heavy so quickly Shock

Frizbe · 14/03/2006 15:55

Flame hope all goes well at nursery Smile and your not insane, I don't know what I'd have done if dd2 was a boy, kinda gotten my head around having a girl again! ahem...on the positive side, all the people we met at aquanatal this time have had boys so far! this was the case with dd also, who only had 1 girl friend for ages, so looks like were evening things out up here.....

Jas, grrrrrr Angry at your docs receptionist what an arse!

Hotmama, how's things, is it thrush??

Hope the rest of you guys are ok, all seems fine here, dd2 is feeding the requisite amnt of feeds per day, afterpains appear to have gone, although have a headache coming on? (why?) so off to take some painkillers for that! hope to get discharged from MW tomorrow, fingers x'd....she should have been here today, but had hip clinic with dd2, who luckily doesn't appear to have a bad hip after all Grin but we have to go for a further check in two months, to ensure all is still ok, phew for now!

Flamesparrow · 14/03/2006 19:24

She loved it! Grin (and a bit :() Was a bit clingy when we went in, a lovely lady helped her start colouring while I went to put her coat away (took a while and kept my distance), then I gave her a kiss and said I had to go check on Emrys (with Gran at school reception), and she said ok and was fine after! No huge tantrums that I've been told of... must be lulling them gently Wink.

All is fine with me n the other short one. Oh, stood on scales Angry - I've not even lost his birth weight!!! What's goin on there???

ixel · 14/03/2006 19:47

Flame.. it is a front carrier we've got. He's ok in it outdoors, but wont tolerate it in the house! At least we managed to get in the garden a bit today, and let ds1 burn off some energy, as ds2 was already papoosed up from our return from playgroup!
Re the feeding tops; I'm quite happy to yank up at home or at least in a warm place. But there are some places I just dont want to show off my fat belly to the world (no prob with the chest!).

Midwife again today... he still hasn't gained weight. So the new tactic is to express 100ml each day, and split this as 3 top ups with a bottle after breastfeeding.I should be able to express before dh goes to work, so he can contain ds1, who really wants 'his turn'... I'd really appreciate any bf advice, no matter how obvious, as I'm getting desperate.

On the plus side, my friend lent me one of those swinging chairs today... ds2 loves it! Can actually get 10 mins to get stuff done once ds1 is in bed, which is now about 6pm due to lack of nap Grin

Jasnem · 15/03/2006 07:54

Morning,
Glad all was well at nursery. I remember being a little bit Sad when both my dds ran in with out a tear or even a backward glance when they started nursery. Remind yourself that it's because you are a great mum, and she is confident and secure! (They both saved the tears and tantrums for a few weeks in. Wink)

Ixel - I've also been using a maternity vest type top under my t shirt when we are out. It pulls down, and the t shirt goes up, leaving the minimum of exposed flesh!(mostly as I get cold, rather than caring about the flabby bellyGrin) Have you tried ebay?
As for bf advice, I can't think of anything your midwife hasn't probably already suggested. How often do you feed him?Can you sqeeze an extra one in somewhere? Does he go to sleep? And do you offer both breasts?
If he goes to sleep and you think he could take more, change him to wake him up( or take off some of his clothes) Keep feeding as much and as often as you can to build up your supply more.
Well done for sticking at it, particularly as it's such a worry atm. Hope he starts to put on more weight soon.

Boy is piling it on (no idea what he weighs, will get him checked when hv visits tomorrow). He's out of newborn clothes already. Really glad I didn't buy much, for only 2 weeks use!
Not getting on well with getting him to sleep in his basket. Tried leaving him to cry last night... only lasted 15 mins, and he went from whinging to screamingSad Probavly won't do that again for a while. He settles so well normally, that when he does cry, I always go to him immediately. I know I'm probably not helping long termBlush but the old hippy in me doesn't care. I'm getting more sure that he's my last, and want to enjoy every minute, not feel I'm punishing him. Will just keep cuddling/co-sleeping, 'til he's ready to be away from me.

cuffyj1 · 15/03/2006 08:07

can anybody help with this?

\link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1364&threadid=155309&stamp=060314233442\reflux?}

Frizbe · 15/03/2006 09:09

Sorry cuffy no reflux experience here, hope docs sort it for you asap

Flame, glad dd1 had a good day at nursery Smile

Well dd2 angel last night, slept 11.30-5.30, then woke me snorting like a piggy for food, dropped off one boob later, so I popped her back to sleep, I woke up again at 7.30 and popped her on the other boob still asleep, which she drank, and is still asleep now! dd2 got up at 8am, so hurrah! a wonderful nights sleep for us all Grin

Jas, I'm sure ds will get the basket thing in the end, does he sleep in it during the day?

Hope all are well x

hotmama · 15/03/2006 09:23

Cuffy - can't really help re Reflux but I think it is a good idea what other mners have said about writing down things to inform your gp etc - hope things get better soon. Smile

Frizbe - saw a locum on Monday and he basically took my word for it that we had thrush - but I wasn't very confident in him - so I rang NHS direct when I got home as I thought the prescription dosage for dd2 was not for babies - was O.K. at the end.

However, the locum only gave me Canestan duo for me (obviously for 'downstairs' not my nips!) and Nystan for dd2 - he gave me nothing for my breasts - I questioned him as this didn't seem right but got a bit fobbed off - he reckons that by giving the Nystan to dd2 and her feeding this will sort out my breasts - does this seem right? The locum did say if I didn't feel better after a few days then I could rub some of the Canestan on my nips - but it says on the box vaginal use only - hence me not being very confident in the locum - NHS Direct said on no circumstances put the cream on the nips as it isn't for oral use - what a muppet locum! Shock Think I may be going back to see the GP later on this week if he is back.

Re BF advice - look at kellymom.com - I found this a really helpful website and/or get in touch with a local La Leche leader or look at their website - I have found these invaluable and therefore think I am cracking this bf lark this time around. Please feel free to cat me and I will help as best I can.

Flame - Smile for dd going to nursery - feels a bit weird doesn't it - but glad that dd had a fun day. Grin

Hope everyone is doing O.K. Have the nameless babes got names yet? Smile
